本課我們學習了介詞by表示“用，靠；通過，借助于(方式、手段)”時的用法。如：by car, by plane, by ship等。

用來表示交通方式的介詞還有in和on。如：in a car, on a bus等。此時交通工具前要加限定詞。但on foot意為“步行；走”。foot前不需任何限定詞，foot也不能用復數。(建議：教師可在總結課上或練習課上補充。)Section B Section B needs 1 period.Section B需用1課時。

《清明》詩漢譯比較賞析

摘要：詩歌翻譯一向是翻譯中的難題，“信”、“達”、“雅”兼備的原則可說對翻譯有特殊意義。唐朝杜牧的《清明》詩是一首千百年來傳誦不斷的好詩，當代不少翻譯名家都曾翻譯此詩。本文將從詩歌翻譯的原則出發，對《清明》詩的幾個譯本進行對比賞析，分析“清明”、“牧童”、“路上行人”、“酒家”的譯法。

一、作品簡介及綜述

唐朝杜牧寫了一首《清明》詩，詩文如下： 清明時節雨紛紛，路上行人欲斷魂； 借問酒家何處是，牧童遙指杏花村。

杜牧，與晚唐詩人李商隱齊名，被稱為“小李杜”，是一位既悲嘆自己生不逢時又立志報國、力挽晚唐頹廢之勢的有識之士，對已故40余年的一代名將郭子儀充滿了敬仰之情。因此這位陜西人20多歲便出游各地，體察民情，在他途徑名酒產地杏花村時，寫下了這首千古傳誦、婦孺皆知的題為《清明》的詩。《清明》詩中的“行人”卻人在他鄉，孤獨凄涼，又春雨綿綿不絕，增添了“行人”莫名的煩亂和惆悵。行人打聽哪兒有喝酒的地方，春雨中的牧童便指點出遠處的一片杏花林，結句詩意悠遠、清新、明快。

翻譯家劉重德提出“信達切”（faithfulness,expressiveness and closeness）的翻譯標準。“信”指信于原文內容（to be faithful to the content of the original）；“達”指具備原文一樣的表現力（to be as expressive as the original）“切”;指盡可能切近原文風格（to be as close

【1】to the original style as possible）。現讓我們試賞析《清明》的幾種翻譯版本。

二、譯文的計較和賞析

由于此詩的文學價值很高，很多學者均曾翻譯過此詩。此文選取楊憲益、戴乃迭（以下簡稱楊譯）、許淵沖（以下簡稱許譯）以及吳鈞陶（以下簡稱吳譯）的三份譯文略加分析。

（一）關于“清明”的翻譯

首先，就目前來看，對標題“清明”的翻譯，所能找到的英譯文有以下十多種：The Pure Brightness Day ,The Day of Mourning for the Dead ,The Mourning Day ,All Souls’ Day ,All Souls’ Festive Day ,Clear and Bright ,Pure Brightness , the Qingming Festival ,Day of Tomb-Worship ,Spring Festival和The Late Spring Festival Day。雖說譯法有如此之多，但不能說是比較理想的翻譯，若用festive或festival來翻譯，總覺得給別人一種喜慶的感覺，但是清明節眾所周知都是一個祭奠先人的悲傷節日，這當然與本詩的意境不相符合，而許淵沖和吳鈞陶在此則分別譯為The Mourning Day、The Pure Brightness Day.雖對比譯為festival好多了，但是這還是具有我國傳統文化色彩，對付此翻譯就需要做出大篇幅的解釋了，然而這又不利為詩歌的翻譯，文化隔閡也沒有消除，對于英譯文讀者仍然帶來閱讀困難。對于楊憲益，戴乃迭的譯的In the Rainy Season of Spring，也仍然突出不了清明節這特殊的悲傷的一天，不過一個Rainy則譯的意化，對比別人譯的All Souls’ Day 已經很好了，若譯為All Souls Day，則指十一月二日“萬靈節”。該節日為羅馬天主教為亡靈祈禱超度的節日，這與我國上墳掃墓的清明節相比，宗教色彩太濃，在時間上也有不同，也只有在紀念死者這一點上相似，所以綜合而言，這三位翻譯家譯的已經相當好了。

（二）關于“牧童”的翻譯

一說起牧童，中國人的腦海中就浮現出一副水墨畫，世代流傳的《清明》中“牧童遙指杏花村”，既給“斷魂”的“行人”指明了方向，也讓他找到了心靈的歸宿。此后，在歷代詩人們的詩作中，不斷出現牧童形象。牧童引領隱居歸退的詩人們尋找精神家園，因此稱為有著特定含義的文學意象。正因為這個形象所帶來的各種聯想，在《清明》里，帶出一片生機及春意的除了“杏花村”之外，“牧童”的出現也起著重要的作用，因此，“牧童”一詞的翻譯也值得好好斟酌。三個譯本中，楊譯是shepherd boy，許譯是cowherd，吳譯是cowboy。

經查字典【2】，shepherd boy ：牧羊孩，cowherd：放牧的，cowboy：騎馬牛仔（由指美國西部騎著馬看管牛群的人，代表了一種美國典型的個人主義和自由精神），對比這三種譯法，很顯然cowboy與《清明》詩中的牧童風馬牛不相及，想必當英文讀者讀到此翻譯時腦子里所產生的意象就是美國那種向往自由的文化精神，這與作者所構造出清明節的悲傷意象相悖，為免引起讀者的錯誤聯想，筆者認為這個詞并不適合用來翻譯牧童。Shepherd boy雖是指牧羊，但與中國牧童相比卻比較中性，沒有意境氛圍，也無法表達出作者要表達出的那種情感，但是也不會帶來什么不符合的聯想，總體而言比較合適。Cowherd的詞意不差，但所指可能是青年人，甚至是中年人，則不及加上boy后的意思與原文那么貼近，總體而言楊譯在這個牧童上翻譯的比較好。

（三）關于“路上行人”翻譯

對于“路上行人”這一詞的翻譯，有以下幾種：“I”，“the mourner”，“the men and women”，“pedestrians”，“travelers”，這里的譯文一為吳譯，譯文二為許譯，譯文五為楊譯，我認為無論是用“travelers along the road”還是用“the mourner”都與此詩的意境顯得有些不大關聯，可以說，翻譯好“路上行人欲斷魂”是關系到整個語篇是否具有連貫性的關鍵所在，在這一點上，譯文一和譯文二都翻譯的不夠成功，然而看看吳譯，他的英譯文不僅在語篇的連貫性方面做的很成功，而且在意、音、形三方面同原文具有較高程度的相似。特別突出的一點是：吳譯有和原詩同樣的韻式，但顯得自然，無因韻害義之毛病。

（四）關于“酒家”翻譯

對于“酒家”一詞的翻譯，楊譯tavern，許譯wineshop，吳譯public house。對于楊譯，筆者認為不是很恰當，因為“tavern”一詞偏古老，而且主要為“客棧”之意思，給人印象好像是在傳達行人要投宿的意思，而非欲借酒消除心中的哀愁之意。許譯使用“wineshop”一詞比楊譯要好，但吳譯使用的“public house”更為確切。

三、總結

我們知道，外國詩歌的譯介對中國文學的意義，與其他體裁的外國作品之譯介不一樣，給中國文學帶來的影響是革命性的。它促生了中國新詩，從詩體、語言以及內容素材等方面，賦予了中國詩歌前所未有的自由，使得中國的詩人們能夠以當下的語言，寫出當下的情感和思想，使得詩歌更具有歷史感和生命力。那么，筆者也希望中國的詩歌翻譯成外文，從文化交流，從藝術美感，從語言表達上也能為外國的文字文化及外國詩歌帶來革命性的影響，筆者希望中國詩歌翻譯能夠繼續探索翻譯的奧秘。參考文獻：
