商務(wù)翻譯工作是一種促進(jìn)各國(guó)人民進(jìn)行文化、科技、商業(yè)交流的重要活動(dòng)。因此，從事商務(wù)翻譯工作的人員承擔(dān)著特殊義務(wù)，不僅應(yīng)具備良好的政治素養(yǎng)和高度的責(zé)任感，而且應(yīng)具備一定程度的外語(yǔ)水平能力、母語(yǔ)水平能力、知識(shí)水平能力、應(yīng)用水平能力等。

第一，要有良好的政治素養(yǎng)。善于運(yùn)用正確的立場(chǎng)、觀點(diǎn)和方法來(lái)分析研究所譯的內(nèi)容，以確保譯文準(zhǔn)確、恰當(dāng)?shù)貍鬟_(dá)原文的思想。例如在商務(wù)活動(dòng)中，往往會(huì)涉及到大陸、臺(tái)灣、APEC等提法。對(duì)此，我們必須認(rèn)真、謹(jǐn)慎地加以對(duì)待。如不可將大陸譯為mainland China，而應(yīng)譯為the mainland of China或China's mainland。此外，國(guó)外的一些人有時(shí)會(huì)有意無(wú)意的將臺(tái)灣說(shuō)成Republic of China，在遇到這種情況時(shí)，我們應(yīng)將其譯為“中國(guó)臺(tái)灣”，而不應(yīng)直譯為“中華民國(guó)”。還有，中國(guó)是亞太經(jīng)合組織(APEC)成員國(guó)，而這個(gè)組織中還有香港、臺(tái)灣等地區(qū)，因此，在翻譯與APEC有關(guān)的一些材料時(shí)，就要非常敏銳，不能將APEC members譯成APEC成員國(guó)，而應(yīng)譯成APEC國(guó)家和地區(qū)。

第二，要有高度的職業(yè)責(zé)任感。高度的職業(yè)責(zé)任感是指譯者必須意識(shí)到自己肩負(fù)的使命，要有兢兢業(yè)業(yè)、一絲不茍的態(tài)度，對(duì)不明白或不熟悉的東西要勤查多問(wèn)，不望文生義，不草率下筆。這不僅是對(duì)交流的雙方負(fù)責(zé)，也是對(duì)自己負(fù)責(zé)。有這樣一個(gè)實(shí)例可以說(shuō)明一個(gè)沒(méi)有職業(yè)責(zé)任感的譯者會(huì)給讀者帶來(lái)多么大的損失。據(jù)《中國(guó)消費(fèi)者報(bào)》報(bào)道，北京某餐廳的卡式爐燃?xì)夤薇ǎ谧?2位顧客均不同程度燒傷，其中一個(gè)少女容貌全部被毀，雙手致殘，訴諸法律，索賠230萬(wàn)元。而造成這一重大事故的原因，是不負(fù)責(zé)任的譯者將燃?xì)鉅t上的英文說(shuō)明Never refill gas into empty can(空罐絕不能再次充氣)翻譯成了“本罐用完后無(wú)損壞可再次補(bǔ)充”。本可避免的悲劇，就因?yàn)橐痪渥g文錯(cuò)誤而發(fā)生了。因此，每一個(gè)翻譯工作者都應(yīng)牢記：翻譯工作責(zé)任重大，稍有不慎，就可能帶來(lái)不良政治影響或巨大經(jīng)濟(jì)損失，絕不可草率從事。

第三，要有較強(qiáng)的英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)言能力。較強(qiáng)的英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)言能力是英漢翻譯的首要條件，是透徹理解原文的前提。若想提高英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)言能力，一方面要掌握必要的語(yǔ)法知識(shí)，另一方面要努力擴(kuò)大常用詞匯量。沒(méi)有較好的語(yǔ)法知識(shí)，在英漢翻譯時(shí)就不可避免地會(huì)出現(xiàn)理解錯(cuò)誤，使譯文不能忠實(shí)傳達(dá)原文的含義。如Today we cannot walk a few steps withoutnoticing advertising.今天，只要我們走出幾步路，就一定會(huì)注意到廣告。(此句采用了正譯法，譯為肯定句。我們可以試想一下，如果此句不通過(guò)肯定譯法或不采用正譯的話，此句的譯文會(huì)是什么樣子。)而沒(méi)有足夠的詞匯量，英漢翻譯時(shí)就會(huì)頻頻查閱詞典，不僅影響翻譯速度，還會(huì)打斷思路，影響翻譯的準(zhǔn)確性。

第四，要有扎實(shí)的漢語(yǔ)基本功。正確理解原文需要較高的英語(yǔ)知識(shí)，而自然貼切的表達(dá)則需要扎實(shí)的漢語(yǔ)功底。商務(wù)英語(yǔ)的翻譯即使不像文學(xué)作品那樣要求語(yǔ)言形象和多種修辭手段的運(yùn)用，但譯文也必須做到概念清楚、邏輯準(zhǔn)確。許多人往往忽視了這一點(diǎn)，認(rèn)為漢語(yǔ)是自己的母語(yǔ)，應(yīng)付翻譯中的表達(dá)問(wèn)題綽綽有余。然而在英漢翻譯實(shí)踐中，常常會(huì)因?yàn)橐粋€(gè)詞語(yǔ)或一個(gè)句子的措辭而冥思苦想，半天也找不到一個(gè)滿(mǎn)意的結(jié)果。如Inflation is coming down;unemployment is coming down;things are definitely lookingup!如果譯成“通貨膨脹正在下降，失業(yè)問(wèn)題正在下降，事實(shí)確實(shí)正在向上看”，就會(huì)讓讀者費(fèi)解。應(yīng)把此句改譯為：通貨膨脹正趨緩解，社會(huì)失業(yè)問(wèn)題也在改善，形勢(shì)確已好轉(zhuǎn)!由此可見(jiàn)，譯者的漢語(yǔ)理解和表達(dá)能力會(huì)直接影響到翻譯質(zhì)量的好壞。漢語(yǔ)功底不扎實(shí)，即使精通了外語(yǔ)，也很難完整準(zhǔn)確地表達(dá)出原文的內(nèi)容和風(fēng)格。要學(xué)好漢語(yǔ)，一方面可借助于語(yǔ)文教材，掌握漢語(yǔ)語(yǔ)法知識(shí);另一方面則是閱讀一些優(yōu)秀漢語(yǔ)文學(xué)作品，學(xué)習(xí)和模仿一些地道的漢語(yǔ)表達(dá)方式。

第五，要有較強(qiáng)的知識(shí)水平能力。知識(shí)水平能力是指譯者應(yīng)具備譯人語(yǔ)和譯出語(yǔ)的相關(guān)知識(shí)水平，只懂外語(yǔ)而不懂相關(guān)的專(zhuān)業(yè)知識(shí)，那么一些特殊的表達(dá)方式是譯不好的。就商務(wù)英語(yǔ)翻譯而言，譯者一方面需要懂得、熟悉專(zhuān)業(yè)的行話、術(shù)語(yǔ);另一方面要用通順、流暢的語(yǔ)言，將相關(guān)的知識(shí)更好地綜合起來(lái)并流暢達(dá)意地表達(dá)出來(lái)。商務(wù)英語(yǔ)翻譯時(shí)，應(yīng)倍加注意一些專(zhuān)業(yè)常用詞組的習(xí)慣用法，如I am writing to notice you that?意為“我寫(xiě)此信的目的是要告知貴(你)方??”，并非簡(jiǎn)單的“我現(xiàn)在在寫(xiě)信，要通知你??”;Enclosed are?意為“隨信附上??”，并非“信中含有??”。‘對(duì)于原文的理解也要更全面，翻譯時(shí)就不會(huì)受原文的束縛，而是采用恰如其分的詞語(yǔ)再表現(xiàn)出來(lái)。
