I am delighted that the UN World Tourism Organization is celebrating this year's World Tourism Day under the theme “Tourism and Biodiversity”.Despite repeated global pledges to protect the planet's species and habitats – and the goods and services they provide – the variety of life on Earth continues to decline at an unprecedented rate.Human activities are the cause.This year – the International Year of Biodiversity – provides a timely opportunity to focus on the urgency of safeguarding biodiversity for the wealth, health and well-being of people in all regions of the world.我高興地看到，聯合國世界旅游組織在“旅游與生物多樣性”的主題下紀念今年的世界旅游日。盡管一再做出全球承諾，要保護地球上的物種和生境及其提供的貨物和服務，但生物種類繼續以史無前例的速度減少。其根源在于人類的活動。今年是國際生物多樣性年，提供了一個適時的機會來集中注意為世界各地人民的財富、健康和福祉保護生物多樣性的緊迫性。

The theme of this year?s observance of World Cities Day – ?Designed to Live Together? – highlights the key role of urban design in building sustainable, socially integrated and prosperous urban environments.今年紀念世界城市日的主題——“城市設計，共創宜居”——突出表明，城市設計在創建可持續、社會融合和繁榮的城市環境中可發揮關鍵作用。

1The theme of this year‘s World Tourism Day, ―Tourism – linking cultures‖, highlights the powerful role of tourism in building international understanding and mutual respect.There is no better way to learn about a new culture than to experience it first-hand.Tourism offers a wonderful connecting thread between visitor and host community.It promotes dialogue and interaction.Such contact between people of different backgrounds is the very foundation for tolerance.In a world struggling for peaceful coexistence,tourism can build bridges and contribute to peace.Tourism‘s contributions to development also advance the cause of global solidarity.At a time of profound global economic uncertainty, tourism‘s ability to generate socio-economic opportunities and help reduce the gap between rich and poor, is more important than ever.I encourage all involved in tourism to embrace the ten principles of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism.These guidelines for sustainable and responsible tourism development, approved by the UN General Assembly in 2001, are based on the proven interaction between tourism and peace, human rights and understanding.World Tourism Day is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of tourism to global well-being.As we travel, let us engage with other cultures and celebrate human diversity.On this observance, let us recognize tourism as a force for a more tolerant, open and united world.世界旅游日致辭
