口譯與記憶

——以《胡錦濤在上海世博會歡迎晚宴上的祝酒辭》為例

從心理學的角度上，人們把記憶分為短時記憶（STM）和長時記憶（LTM）。從字面意義上講，短時記憶就是在短時間內記住信息，它不需要利用任何神經機制來為以后提取此信息而加強記憶。長時記憶是指利用神經系統儲存信息，這些信息與數據能在數周、數月、乃至幾年后仍舊記憶猶新（曾傳生，2010）。無論是同聲傳譯或是交替傳譯，記憶能力，尤其是短時記憶能力都顯得尤為重要。

口譯是以短時記憶為中心的語言活動。口譯的過程大致可以概括為四步：獲取源語言信息，存儲信息，提取信息，轉換成目的語。其中，該過程的前三步，都與短時記憶息息相關。在同傳或交傳的過程中，譯者主要借助短時記憶，利用聽覺及語義存儲信息、處理信息，并最終轉換信息。Peterson（1959）的研究表明，他所實驗的短時記憶能持續6到12秒。口譯的特點也決定了譯員必須要充分利用短時記憶。此次口譯活動結束，譯員會接到可能內容風格可能完全不同的口譯任務，此時，這個翻譯任務所涉及的內容、主題和發言人會截然不同。因此，短時記憶是譯員所需要的最基本的記憶技能。

祝酒辭應屬商務口譯的范疇。商務口譯存在傳播的“生活形式” 以及口譯傳播的“及席性”的特點。而這些特點也往往造成了對口譯傳播與意義表達的制約（朱錚錚，2009）?！逗\濤在上海世博會歡迎晚宴上的祝酒辭》中，也大致體現了商務口譯的一些特點。但對于國家領導人在如此重要的場合下所做的祝酒辭稿件，譯者必定是事先對原稿有了比較詳盡的了解。盡管如此，該祝酒辭依然蘊含著生活化與即席性的特點。例如，在此祝酒辭的最后，胡錦濤主席提議“為舉辦一屆成功、精彩、難忘的世博會，為世界人民的團結和友誼，為人類文明發展進步，為各位嘉賓和家人身體健康，干杯”這部分，便體現了生活化與即席性的特點。

口譯活動依賴譯員的短時記憶能力，但并不表示譯員的長時記憶不發揮作用。長時記憶里儲存的是平時積累的生活常識、專業知識、各種經歷等，其容量是無限的。信息在此儲存的時候見響度較長，有的內容甚至終身不忘（賀煜，肖穎，李紀超，2009）。長時記憶，是一個需要不斷學習的過程。譯員的語言知識、文化知識等的系統儲備，對口譯也是至關重要的。例如，在這篇祝酒辭中，出現

1了我國國家領導人經常會提及的我國經濟社會等各項發展必須走的道路及必須堅持的原則，即“中國將高舉和平、發展、合作旗幟，始終不渝地走和平發展道路，始終不渝奉行互利共贏的開放戰略，堅持在和平共處五項原則的基礎上同所有國家發展友好合作，同各國人民一道推動建設持久和平、共同繁榮的和諧世界。”此處的翻譯質量，就完全取決于譯者的長時記憶。即譯者是否具備扎實穩妥的基本功以及充足的知識儲備，尤其是譯者是否了解對國家發展戰略等問題的慣用翻譯方法。除此之外，長時記憶還適用于一些常用固定搭配以及習慣表達等方面。例如祝酒辭中提到的取長補短(learn from each other and draw on each other’s strengths)、書寫…的新篇章（add a new chapter to…）、注冊類世博會（the registered World Expo）、國際展覽局（the International Exhibitions Bureau BIE）、搭起…的橋梁（…serve as a bridge）、秘書長（Secretary General）等等。

在上學期短暫的口譯實踐中，個人認為，口譯的幾大難點在于對源語言的理解，在于短時記憶能力有限以及專業術語乃至語言點掌握不足等三個方面。鐘述孔在其所著的實用口譯手冊（修訂版）中指出, “An interpreter must realize from the very beginning of his training that it is always memory on the basis of correct comprehension that plays the major role in ensuring accuracy in interpreting, not note-taking”(p.42, 1994).由此可見，對源語言正確及時的理解輔以較強的短時記憶能力，對準確高效的口譯實踐，意義重大。

國家領導人在比較正式的國際場合講話，慣用較長的排比句式，乍一聽，會感覺到一種句式復雜句子冗長的特點，其實仔細分析下來，我們可以發現，排比式的長句子翻譯起來還是有規律可循的。這就需要在正確理解大意的基礎之上，合理安排分配短時記憶，并借助筆記的輔助功能。例如，在《胡錦濤在上海世博會歡迎晚宴上的祝酒辭》中，第一段有這樣的表達：“我謹代表中國政府和人民，對各位嘉賓蒞臨上海世博會，表示熱烈的歡迎！對給予上海世博會真誠幫助和大力支持的各國政府和人民，對國際展覽局和有關國際組織，對所有為上海世博會作出貢獻的朋友們，表示誠摯的謝意！”聽完這段話，單純依靠短時記憶就能準確無誤地翻譯出來是基本不可能的，但在聽的過程中，我們不難發現，整段話需要特別記憶的，無非就是歡迎的對象以及感謝的對象。但是，需要特別注意的是，記住歡迎以及感謝的對象貌似也不太容易，那在聽的過程中，就盡量摒除起修飾

作用的定語部分，簡化的結果就是，歡迎蒞臨者，感謝各國政府和人民，感謝國際展覽局和有關國際組織。

在口譯實踐的過程中，由于短時記憶能力有限，經常會出現信息缺失的情況。即，短時記憶的內容轉瞬即逝。綜合其原因，一方面，可能是受到同時接受的信息的干擾，另一方面，可能是由于時間的推移使得信息退出記憶而導致的短時記憶衰退（曾傳生，2010）。短時記憶容量有限，Miller(1956)在其論文《神秘數字7加或減2》中就論述了，短時記憶大概是7加或減2個單位。短時記憶的另一個特點便是，它把信息的聽覺形式保留下來（賀煜，肖穎，李紀超，2009）。

記憶，尤其是短時記憶在口譯中的作用十分重要。對譯員進行加強短時記憶的訓練是十分必要的。短時記憶的目的是為了幫助譯員更好地理解源語言，進而使譯員的譯語準確到位（曾傳生，2010）。曾傳生在其所著的《英語同聲傳譯概論》中，提到了四種記憶訓練的方法。分別是，歸類：對同一特質的物品進行歸類；歸納：從文中所給的特定的例子或者信息中進行總結歸納；比較：關注事物的不同之處和相同之處；描述：描述一個場景，一種形狀，或者一個事物的大小，等等。如果以《胡錦濤在上海世博會歡迎晚宴上的祝酒辭》為訓練范本，以上四種記憶訓練方法在原文的翻譯過程中也是可以借鑒的。例如，原文中“世博會是薈萃人類文明成果的盛會，也是世界各國人民共享歡樂和友誼的聚會”這是一句由兩個分句組成的完整句子。兩個分句的相同之處便在于世博會是盛會是聚會，不同之處便在于盛會與聚會的修飾成分。因此，在聽這段話的過程中，顯然要更加注重對修飾成分的記憶與理解。

通過上學期短暫的口譯實踐，我意識到，雖然譯者的聽、說、讀、寫、譯等綜合能力和專業知識能力對做好口譯起關鍵作用，但對信息的有效記憶則是實現成功口譯的必經之路。在正確理解源語言信息的基礎上，做到有效的短時記憶與口譯筆記相互補充，才能真正獲取口譯段落的完整信息。因此，做口譯的過程，就是一個長時記憶與短時記憶相互結合，相互輔助的過程。以正確及時地理解信息的真實意義為前提，在結合自己已有的、儲存在大腦中已達到長時記憶中的語言知識、跨文化知識、跨學科知識的基礎上，恰當運用語言的分析、歸納、分類等技巧，同時盡量摒棄信息中的非主要部分，從而將信息最清晰地、牢固地儲存在大腦中，形成對信息的有效記憶，以期圓滿完成口譯任務。

3、”where there is a will, there is a way“.”有志者事竟成" 例句：The facts eloquently demonstrate that where there is a will, there is a way.事實雄辯地證明了有志者事竟成.這是一個狀語從句。是地點狀語從句。由where引導的。從句部分是Where there is a will，狀語從句理解成狀語或副詞。主句是there is a way。

will是意愿的意思。Where there is a will在有意愿的地方，way是路，there is a way就有路可走。翻譯成：有志者事竟成。

這四個詞都有破壞之意，但destruction 表示毀滅性的破壞、摧毀，如建筑的摧毀。

devastation 表示大面積的破壞，比如用在森林的大面積破壞等。disaster 表示災難，這個破壞是不可估計的。相對這幾個單詞的程度是最大的。damage 表示損壞，程度相對這幾個單詞是最小的。在此文中“人類活動和過度消費需求帶來了許多對環境的破壞”，此類的許多破壞對環境都是大面積的破壞，但不構成毀滅性的破壞，也不是災難所造成的，所以用devastation最恰當。

5、Eager(adj.)渴望的；熱切的

例句：He is always eager for new experiences and ever-willing to experiment.他總 是渴望擁有新的經歷，而且永遠愿意嘗試。Anxious(adj.)渴望的；焦急的

例句：The Government is anxious to keep the whole case out of court.政府迫切希望整件事能夠在庭外解決。Keen(adj.)渴望的；熱心的

這些形容詞均有“急切的，渴望的”之意。anxious：強調因憂慮、關注或害怕而產生的急切心情。eager：側重于急于成功的迫切心情。keen：強調因興趣強烈或欲望而急于做某事。在此文中:“世界的年輕人都迫切地看到領導人在氣候變化問題上采取行動并且提出了他們的問題?！毕胍磉_的是全世界的年輕人迫切的希望領導人能迅速解決問題的心情，所以選用eager。

以上是我對聯合國環境署親善大使李冰冰在氣候峰會的發言的簡單性總結。通過分析，不僅讓我了解到口譯領域的難度與深度，也讓我感受到了在把中文譯成英文或英文譯成中文需要注意的地方是很多的。口譯與寫文章不同的，口譯需要注意語言的選擇、時機是否恰當、記錄的內容具有對發言人的講話有高強度的概括性、記錄的格式需醒目、易解讀。
