Thank you all.Thank you so much. You know, it’s hard to believe that it has been eight years since I first came to this convention to talk with you about why I thought my husband should be president.

Remember how I told you about his character and convictions, his decency and his grace, the traits that we’ve seen every day that he’s served our country in the White House?

I also told you about our daughters, how they are the heart of our hearts, the center of our world. And during our time in the White House, we’ve had the joy of watching them grow from bubbly little girls into poised young women, a journey that started soon after we arrived in Washington.

可千萬別把心頭肉翻譯成flesh on my heart哦。

Have the joy of doing sth.

When they set off for their first day at their new school, I will never forget that winter morning as I watched our girls, just 7 and 10 years old, pile into those black SUVs with all those big men with guns. And I saw their little faces pressed up against the window, and the only thing I could think was, what have we done?

Set off for sth.的意思是“開始著手做某事”,也可以說set off for doing sth.比如:He sets off for building his own house.

Up against和單純的against在大多數(shù)情況下可以互換,但當(dāng)其中的up確實(shí)也表示“向上”的時候則不行。

See, because at that moment I realized that our time in the White House would form the foundation for who they would become and how well we managed this experience could truly make or break them.

Make sb. 不過make sb. You are my childhood idol.You made me.(你是我的童年偶像,是你成就了我。) I am a monster.But it’s you who made me.(我是個怪物。

That is what Barack and I think about every day as we try to guide and protect our girls through the challenges of this unusual life in the spotlight, how we urge them to ignore those who question their father’s citizenship or faith. How we insist that the hateful language they hear from public figures on TV does not represent the true spirit of this country. How we explain that when someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don’t stoop to their level. No, our motto is, when they go low, we go high.

With every word we utter, with every action we take, we know our kids are watching us.We as parents are their most important role models. And let me tell you, Barack and I take that same approach to our jobs as president and first lady because we know that our words and actions matter, not just to our girls, but the children across this country, kids who tell us I saw you on TV, I wrote a report on you for school.Kids like the little black boy who looked up at my husband, his eyes wide with hope and he wondered, is my hair like yours?

Matter在這里的用法和it doesn’t matter里是一樣的,表示“舉足輕重”,意思基本等同于make a difference。

表達(dá)“全國”可以用across the country、all over the country、throughout the country. And make no mistake about it, this November when we go to the polls that is what we’re deciding, not Democrat or Republican, not left or right. No, in this election and every election is about who will have the power to shape our children for the next four or eight years of their lives.

Shape your future.

And I am here tonight because in this election there is only one person who I trust with that responsibility, only one person who I believe is truly qualified to be president of the United States, and that is our friend Hillary Clinton.

Trust sb.with sth. I trust you with what you do.(我信任你的專業(yè)能力)。 I’ll trust you with my money.(我會將我的錢托付給你)。

Be qualified to do sth.

That’s right.See, I trust Hillary to lead this country because I’ve seen her lifelong devotion to our nation’s children, not just her own daughter, who she has raised to perfection, but every child who needs a champion, kids who take the long way to school to avoid the gangs, kids who wonder how they’ll ever afford college, kids whose parents don’t speak a word of English, but dream of a better life, kids who look to us to determine who and what they can be.

Look to sb.to do sth.

You see, Hillary has spent decades doing the relentless, thankless work to actually make a difference in their lives, advocating for kids with disabilities as a young lawyer, fighting for children’s health care as first lady, and for quality child care in the Senate.

And when she didn’t win the nomination eight years ago, she didn’t get angry or disillusioned.Hillary did not pack up and go home, because as a true public servant Hillary knows that this is so much bigger than her own desires and disappointments. So she proudly stepped up to serve our country once again as secretary of state, traveling the globe to keep our kids safe.

And look, there were plenty of moments when Hillary could have decided that this work was too hard, that the price of public service was too high, that she was tired of being picked apart for how she looks or how she talks or even how she laughs. But here’s the thing. What I admire most about Hillary is that she never buckles under pressure. She never takes the easy way out.And Hillary Clinton has never quit on anything in her life.

Take the easy way out的意思是“選擇更容易而非正確的道路”。

And when I think about the kind of president that I want for my girls and all our children, that’s what I want.

I want someone with the proven strength to persevere, someone who knows this job and takes it seriously, someone who understands that the issues a president faces are not black and white and cannot be boiled down to 140 characters.

Be boiled down to表示“可以總結(jié)為”,也可以用主動形式:it boils down to。

Because when you have the nuclear codes at your fingertips and the military in your command, you can’t make snap decisions. You can’t have a thin skin or a tendency to lash out.You need to be steady and measured and well-informed.

I want a president with a record of public service, someone whose life’s work shows our children that we don’t chase fame and fortune for ourselves, we fight to give everyone a chance to succeed.

And we give back even when we’re struggling ourselves because we know that there is always someone worse off.And there but for the grace of God go I.就算當(dāng)我們苦苦掙扎的時候,也要回報這個社會,因為總有人的生活比你還艱難。

I want a president who will teach our children that everyone in this country matters, a president who truly believes in the vision that our Founders put forth all those years ago that we are all created equal, each a beloved part of the great American story.

Put forth a vision,

And when crisis hits, we don’t turn against each other. No, we listen to each other, we lean on each other, because we are always stronger together.

And I am here tonight because I know that that is the kind of president that Hillary Clinton will be.And that’s why in this election I’m with her.

You see, Hillary understands that the president is about one thing and one thing only, it’s about leaving something better for our kids. That’s how we’ve always moved this country forward, by all of us coming together on behalf of our children, folks who volunteer to coach that team, to teach that Sunday school class, because they know it takes a village.

Heroes of every color and creed who wear the uniform and risk their lives to keep passing down those blessings of liberty, police officers and the protesters in Dallas who all desperately want to keep our children safe.People who lined up in Orlando to donate blood because it could have been their son, their daughter in that club.

Leaders like Tim Kaine who show our kids what decency and devotion look like.Leaders like Hillary Clinton who has the guts and the grace to keep coming back and putting those cracks in that highest and hardest glass ceiling until she finally breaks through, lifting all of us along with her.

That is the story of this country, the story that has brought me to this stage tonight, the story of generations of people who felt the lash of bondage, the shame of servitude, the sting of segregation, but who kept on striving and hoping and doing what needed to be done so that today I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves. And I watch my daughters, two beautiful, intelligent, black young women playing with their dogs on the White House lawn.

And because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.

So, look, so don’t let anyone ever tell you that this country isn’t great, that somehow we need to make it great again.Because this right now is the greatest country on earth!

And as my daughters prepare to set out into the world, I want a leader who is worthy of that truth, a leader who is worthy of my girls’ promise and all our kids’ promise, a leader who will be guided every day by the love and hope and impossibly big dreams that we all have for our children.

So in this election, we cannot sit back and hope that everything works out for the best.We cannot afford to be tired or frustrated or cynical. No, hear me.Between now and November, we need to do what we did eight years ago and four years ago.

We need to knock on every door, we need to get out every vote, we need to pour every last ounce of our passion and our strength and our love for this country into electing Hillary Clinton as president of the United States of America!

So let’s get to work.Thank you all and God bless.

MRS.OBAMA:(Applause.)Thank you.Well, ni-hao.(Laughter.)It is such a pleasure and an honor to be here with all of you at this great university, so thank you so much for having me.

Now, before I get started today, on behalf of myself and my husband, I just want to say a few very brief words about Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.As my husband has said, the United States is offering as many resources as possible to assist in the search. And please know that we are keeping all of the families and loved ones of those on this flight in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.

Now with that, I want to start by recognizing our new Ambassador to China, Ambassador Baucus.President Wang;Chairman Zhu;Vice President Li;Director Cueller;Professor Oi, and the Stanford Center;President Sexton from New York University, which is an excellent study abroad program in Shanghai;and John Thornton, Director of the Global Leadership Program at Tsinghua University.Thank you all for joining us.

But most of all, I want to thank all of the students who are here today. And I particularly want to thank Eric Schaefer and Zhu Xuanhao for that extraordinary English and Chinese introduction. That was a powerful symbol of everything that I want to talk with you about today.

See, by learning each other’s languages, and by showing such curiosity and respect for each other’s cultures, Mr.Schafer and Ms.Zhu and all of you are building bridges of understanding that will lead to so much more. And I’m here today because I know that our future depends on connections like these among young people like you across the globe.

That’s why when my husband and I travel abroad, we don’t just visit palaces and parliaments and meet with heads of state. We also come to schools like this one to meet with students like you, because we believe that relationships between nations aren’t just about relationships between governments or leaders--they’re about relationships between people, particularly young people. So we view study abroad programs not just as an educational opportunity for students, but also as a vital part of America’s foreign policy.

Through the wonders of modern technology, our world is more connected than ever before.Ideas can cross oceans with the click of a button.Companies can do business and compete with companies across the globe. And we can text, email, Skype with people on every continent.

So studying abroad isn’t just a fun way to spend a semester;it is quickly becoming the key to success in our global economy.Because getting ahead in today’s workplaces isn’t just about getting good grades or test scores in school, which are important. It’s also about having real experience with the world beyond your borders –-experience with languages, cultures and societies very different from your own.Or, as the Chinese saying goes: “It is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books.”

But let’s be clear, studying abroad is about so much more than improving your own future. It’s also about shaping the future of your countries and of the world we all share.Because when it comes to the defining challenges of our time-– whether it’s climate change or economic opportunity or the spread of nuclear weapons--these are shared challenges. And no one country can confront them alone. The only way forward is together.

That’s why it is so important for young people like you to live and study in each other’s countries, because that’s how you develop that habit of cooperation. You do it by immersing yourself in one another’s culture, by learning each other’s stories, by getting past the stereotypes and misconceptions that too often divide us.

That’s how you come to understand how much we all share. That’s how you realize that we all have a stake in each other’s success--that cures discovered here in Beijing could save lives in America, that clean energy technologies from Silicon Valley in California could improve the environment here in China, that the architecture of an ancient temple in Xi’an could inspire the design of new buildings in Dallas or Detroit.

Thank you。Thank you all。………。

Very proud of you group。

Thank you my friends。Thank you。Thank you so very much for being here。

And I love you all,too。

Last night I congratulated Donald Trump and offer to work with him on behalf of our country。

I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans。

This is not the outcome we wanted or worked so hard for。

And I am sorry that we did not win this election for the values we share and the visions we hold for our country。

But I feel,I feel pride and gratitude for this wonderful campaign that we built together, this vast, diverse, creative, unruly, energized campaign。

You represent the best of America and being your candidate has been one of the greatest honor of my life。

I know how disappointed you feel because I feel it too。

And so do tens of millions of Americans who invested their hopes and dreams in this effort。

This is painful and it will be for a longtime。

But I want you to remember this。

Our campaign was never about one person or even one election。

It was about the country we love and about building an America that’s hopeful, inclusive and big hearted。

We have seen that our nation is more deeply divided than we thought。

But I still believe in America and I always will。

And if you do,then we must accept this result and then look to the future。

Donald Trump is going to be our president。We owe him an open mind and a chance to lead。

Our constitutional democracy enshrines the peaceful transfer of power。

And we don’t just respect that。We cherish it。

It also enshrines other things – the rule of law,the principle that we are all equal in rights and dignity, freedom of worship and expression。

We respect and cherish these values too。And we must defend them。

And let me add,our constitutional democracy demands our participation。Not just every 4 years but all the time。

So let’s do all we can to keep advancing the courses and values we all hold dear, making our economy work for everyone, not just those at the top, protecting our country and protecting our planet and breaking all the barriers that hold any American back from achieving their dreams。

We spent a year and a half bringing together billions of people from every corner of our country to say with onevoice that we believe that the American dream is big enough for everyone, for people of all races and religions, for men and women, for immigrants, for LGBT people and people with disabilities, for everyone。

So now,our responsibility as citizens is to keep doing our part to build that better, stronger, fairer America we seek。

And I know you will。

I am so grateful to stand with all of you。

I wanna thank Tim Kaine and Ann Holton for being our partners on this journey。

It has been a joy to get to know them better and it gives me great hope and comfort to know that Tim will remain on the front lines of our democracy representing Virginia as a Senator。

To Barack and Michelle Obama, our country owes you an enormous debt of gratitude。

We thank you for your graceful, determined leadership that has meant so much for so many Americans and people across the world。

And to Bill and Chelsea,Mark,Charlotte,Aiden, our brothers and our entire family,my love for you is more than I can ever express。

You crisscrossed this country on our behalf and lifted me up when I needed it most even 4-month-old Aiden who traveled with his mom。

I will always be grateful to the creative, talented, dedicated men and women at our headquarters in Brooklyn and across our country。

You poured your hearts into this campaign。For some of you who are veterans it’s a campaign after you had done other campaigns。Some of you,it was your first campaign。

I want each of you to know that you are the best campaign anybody could ever expected or wanted。

And to the millions of volunteers, community leaders, activists and union organizers who knocked down doors, talked to neighbors, posted on facebook, even in secret private facebook sites,I want everybody to come out from behind that and make sure your voices are heard going forward。

For everyone that sent in contributions as small as 5 dollars that kept us going, thank you, thank you from all of us。

And to the young people in particular,I hope you will hear this。

I have,as Tim said, spent my entire adult life fighting for what I believe in。

I had successes and I had setbacks, sometimes really painful ones。

Many of you are at the beginning of your professional, public and political careers。

You will have successes and setbacks too。

This loss hurts。But please never stop believing that fighting for what’s right is worth it。

It is。It is worth it。

And so we need you to keep up these fights now and the rest of your life。

And to all the women, and especially the young women, who put their faith in this campaign and in me,I want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion。

Now,I know that we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but someday someone will and hopefully sooner than we might think right now。

And to all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you’re valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams。

Finally, finally,I am so grateful for our country and for all it has given to me。

I count my blessings every single day that I am an American。

And I still believe as deeply as I ever have that if we stand together and work together with respect for our differences, strength in our convictions and love for this nation our best days are still ahead of us。

Because, you know,I believe we are stronger together and we will go forward together。

And you should never, ever regret fighting for that。

You know, scripture tells us,let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart。

So my friends, let us have faith in each other, let us not grow weary and lose heart, for there are more seasons to come and there is more work to do。

I am incredibly honored and grateful to have had this chance to represent all of you in this consequential election。

May God bless you and may God bless the United States of America。

Thank you all, thank you so much.It is hard to believe that it has been eight years since I first came to this convention to talk with you about why I thought my husband should be president.

Remember how I told you about his character and his conviction? His decency and grace? The traits we have seen every day as he has served our country in the White House.

I also told you about our daughters, how they are the heart of our hearts, the center of our world, and during our time in the White House we have had the joy of watching them grow from bubbly little girls into poised young women.

A journey that started soon after we arrived in Washington when they set off for their first day at their new school.I will never forget that winter morning as I watched our girls, just 7 and 10 years old, pile into those black SUVs with all those men with guns. And with all their little faces pressed up against the window, and the only thing I could think was, 'What have we done?'

At that moment, I realized that our time in the White House would form the foundation of who they would become. And how well we manage this experience could truly make or break them.

That is what Barack and I think about every day as he tried to guide and protect our girls from the challenges of this unusual life in the spotlight. How we urged them to ignore those who question their father's citizenship or faith.

How we insist that the hateful language they hear from public figures on TV does not represent the true spirit of this country. How we explain that when someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don't stoop to their level. Our motto is, when they go low, we go high.

With every word we utter, with every action we take, we know our kids are watching us.We as parents are the most important role-model.

Let me tell you, Barack and I take that same approach to our jobs as president and first lady because we know that our words and actions matter, not just to our girls but the children across this country.Kids who say, “I saw you on TV.”

Kids like the little black boy who looked up at my husband, his eyes wide with hope, and he wondered, 'Is my hair like yours?' Make no mistake about it, this November, when we get to the polls, that is what we are deciding. Not Democrat or Republican, not left or right. In this election, and every election, it is about who will have the power to shape our children for the next four or eight years of their lives.

I am you tonight because in this election, there is only one person who I trust with that responsibility, only one person who I believe is truly qualified to be president of the United States, and that is our friend Hillary Clinton.

I trust Hillary to lead this country because I have seen her lifelong devotion to our nation's children. Not just her own daughter, who she has raised to perfection, but every child who needs a champion: kids who take the long way to school to avoid the gangs.Kids who wonder how they will ever afford college.Kids whose parents don't speak a word of English, but dream of a better life;who look to us to dream of what they can be.

Hillary has spent decades doing the relentless work to actually make a difference in their lives.Advocating for kids with disabilities as a young lawyer, fighting for children's health care as first lady, and for quality child care in the senate.

And when she did not win the nomination eight years ago, she did not get angry or disillusioned.Hillary did not pack up and go home because...Hillary knows that this is so much bigger than her own disappointment.

She proudly stepped up to serve our country once again as secretary of state, traveling the globe to keep our kids safe.

There were moments when Hillary could have decided that this work was too hard, that the price of public service was too high, that she was tired of being [torn] apart for how she looked, or how she talked, or even how she laughed.

But here's the thing: What I admire most about Hillary is that she never buckles under pressure. She never takes the easy way out.And Hillary Clinton has never quit on anything in her life.

And when I think about the kind of president that I want for my girls and all our children, that is what I want.I want someone with the proven strength to persevere.Somebody who knows this job and takes it seriously.Somebody who understands that the issues of our nation are not black or white. It cannot be boiled down to 140 characters.

Because when you have the nuclear codes at your fingertips and the military in your command, you can't make snap decisions. You can't have thin skin or a tendency to lash out.You need to be steady and measured and well informed.

I want a president with a record of public service.Someone whose life's work shows our children that we don't chase fame and fortune for ourselves;we fight to give everyone a chance to succeed.

A president that truly believes that our founders put forth all those years ago that we are all created equal, each a beloved part of the great American story. When crisis hits, we don't turn against each other, we listen to each other. We lean on each other. We are always stronger together.

I am here tonight because I know that that is the kind of president Hillary Clinton will be and that is why in this election, I'm with her.

You see, Hillary understands that the presidency is about one thing and one thing only.It is about leaving something better for our kids. That is how we have always moved this country forward by all of us coming together on behalf of our children.

Volunteering to coach the team, teach the Sunday school class, because they know it takes a village.Heroes of every color and creed who wear the uniform and risk their lives to pass on those blessings of liberty;police officers and protesters in Dallas who all that really want to keep our children safe;people who lined up in Orlando to donate blood because it could have been their son, or their daughter in the club.

Leaders like Tim Kaine, who show our kids what decency and devotion look like.Leaders like Hillary Clinton, who have the guts and the grace to keep coming back and putting those cracks in the highest and hardest glass ceiling until they finally break through, lifting all of us along with her.

That is the story of this country. The story that has brought me to the stage tonight. The story of generations of people who felt the lash of bondage, the shame of servitude, the sting of segregation, who kept on striving, and hoping, and doing what needed to be done.

So that today, I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves. And I watch my daughters a€” two beautiful intelligent black young women a€” play with the dog on the White House lawn.

And because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all of our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.

Don't let anyone ever tell you that this country is not great. That somehow we need to make it great again.Because this right now is the greatest country on Earth.

And as my daughters set out on the world, I want a leader who is worthy of that truth, a leader worthy of my girls' promise and all of our kids' promise.A leader who will be guided every day by the love and hope and impossibly big dreams that we all have for our children.

In this election, we cannot sit back and hope that everything works out for the best, we cannot afford to be tired or frustrated or cynical.Hear me: Between now and November, we need to do what we did eight years ago and four years ago.

We need to knock on every door, we need to get out every vote, we need to pour every last ounce of passion into electing Hillary Clinton as president of the United States of America.Let's get to work.

Thank you all and God bless.

Remarks of First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama Stanford Center at Peking University Ni hao.It is such a pleasant and an honor to be here with all of you at this great university.Thank you so much for having me.And before I get started today, on behalf of myself and my husband, I just want to say a few very brief words above Malaysian(sic)Airline Flight 370.As my husband has said, the United States is offering as many resources as possible to assist in the search. And please know that we are keeping all the families and loved ones of those on this flight in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time. And with that, I want to start by recognizing our news Ambassador to China Ambassador Baucus, President Wang, Chairman Zhu, Vice President Li., Director Cueller, Professor Oi and the Stanford Center President Sexton from New York University which has an excellent study abroad program in Shanghai, and John Thorton, Director of the Global Leadership Program at Tsinghua University.Thank you all so much for joining us.And most of all, I want to thank all of the student for being here today…and I particularly want to thank Eric Schafer and Zhu Xuanbao for that extraordinary English and Chinese introduction. That was such a powerful symbol of everything I want to talk with you about today. You see, by learning each other’s languagesMr.Schafer and Ms.Zhu and all of you are building bridges of understanding that lead to so much more. And I’m here today because I know that our future depends on connections like these among your people like you across the globe. That’s why when my husband and I travel abroad, we don’t just visit palaces and parliament and meet with heads of state. We also come to schools like this one to meet with students like you.Because we believe that relationships between nations are not just about relationship between governments or leaders…they’re about relationships between people, particularly our young people. So we view study abroad programs not just as an educational opportunity f or students…but also as a vital part of America’s foreign policy. You see, through the wonders of modern technology, our world is more connected than ever before.1 Ideas can cross ocean with the click of a button.Companies can do business and complete with companies across the globe. And we can text, email and skype with people on every continent. So studying abroad isn’t just a fun way to spend a semester-it’s quickly becoming the key to success in our global economy.Because getting ahead in today’s workplaces isn’t just about getting good grades or test scores in school…it’s also about having real experience with the world beyond your bordersit’s also about shaping the future of your countries and of the world we all share.Because when it comes to the defining challenges of our timeyou do it by improving yourself in someone’s culture…by learning each other’s stories…and by getting past the stereotypes and misconceptions that too often divide us.That’s how you come to understand how much we all share. And that’s how you realize that we all have a stake in each other’s successbecause I want young people in America to be part of this visit. That’s really the power of technologyby questioning and debating them vigorously…by listening to all sides of every argument...and by judging for ourselves. And believe me, I know this can be a messy and frustrating process. My husband and I are on the receiving and of plenty of questioning and criticizing from our media and our fellow citizens...and it’s not always easy...but we wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.Because time and again, we have seen that countries are stronger and more prosperous when the voices and opinions of all their citizens can be heard. And as my husband said, we respect the uniqueness of other cultures and societies. But when it comes to expressing yourself freely, and worshipping as your choose, and having open access to information – we believe those are universal rights that are the birthright of every person on this planet. We believe that all people deserve the opportunity to fulfill their highest potential as I was able to do in the United States. And as you learn about new cultures and form new friendships during your time here in China and in the United States, all of you are the living, breathing embodiment of those values. So I guarantee you that in studying abroad, you’re not just changing your own life…you’re changing the lives of everyone you meet.As the great American President John F.Kennedy once said about foreign students studying in the U.S., “I think they teach more than they learn.”

And that is just as true of young Americans who study abroad. All of you are America’s best face, and China’s best face, to the world.Every day, you show the world your countries’ energy, creativity, optimism and unwavering belief in the future. And every day, you remind us of just how much we can achieve if we reach across borders…and learn to see ourselves in each other…and confront our shared challenges with shared resolve. So I hope you will keep seeking these kinds of experiences. And I hope you’ll keep teaching each other…and learning from each other…and building bonds of friendship that will enrich your lives and enrich our world for decades to come. You all have so much to offer, and I cannot wait to see all that you achieve together in the years ahead.Thank you so much.Xie Xie.http://video.sina.com.cn/v/b/129154705-2469083980.html
