淺談語塊學習對提高英語技能的作用

摘要： 語料庫研究分析和語言學家的研究發現語言中存在著大量的語塊。掌握和儲存眾多語塊會對英語學習者的口語、寫作和聽力能力產生顯著的提高作用，同時語塊學習帶來的更加地道的語言表達能力又能增強學習者的信心和激發學習興趣。

相對于以往偏重語法的英語學習——強調英語記憶單詞，注重掌握語法規則，側重語塊學習這一方法更能有效提高學生英語學習成效。根據國外語料庫的研究分析以及語言學家的研究發現，我們每天使用的語言當中，幾乎有90%的固定和半固定模式語塊作為基本或者中介單位存在于自然語言中，有大量的語言是約定俗成和可預見的。Lewis(1993)認為這些語塊可以作為理想單位用于英語語言教學和學習。語塊的定義和類型

對于語塊，不同的學者使用了不同的術語，如Bollinger(1975)稱之為預制板塊（pre-assembled chunks）；Krashen & Scarcella(1978)把它稱作半固定式短語（semi-fixed patterns）； Nattinger & Decarrico,(1992)稱其為詞匯語法單位或詞匯短語（lexico-grammatical unit, lexical phrases）；Lewis(1993)稱其為詞語板塊（lexical chunks），并將其分為四種常見的類型：即復合詞(complex words)和聚合詞(polywords)、搭配(collocations或word partnerships)、慣用(institutionalized utterances)和句子框架與引語(sentence frames and heads)。盡管術語各有不同，但是它們卻擁有共同的涵義：語塊是指在語言中出現頻率比較高，結構固定或者半固定，詞義和運用語境比較固定的多個詞的組合。例如，結構固定的語塊：what is called、states of mind、around the world等，半固定結構的語塊：a lot of____、define ____ as、problems arising from______ 等。語塊學習對英語口語的促進作用

英語口語歷來是中國學生學習中的一個難點，很多人背了大量的單詞，熟記各種語法規則，但口語表達卻總是處于“拙劣”狀態，想要表達的時候“開不了口”，要么苦于沒有想法，要么有了想法又不知道如何表達。Lewis(2002)指出這種缺乏“思想”與腦海中缺乏足夠大、足夠多短語詞匯有關。而且還指出意識詞語搭配的重要性，因為許多詞語搭配是表達一個特定“思想”的最為準確和經濟的方法。缺乏足夠大的搭配詞匯就等同于缺乏思想，至少缺乏精確的、現成的可表達的思想。的確，因為語塊的意義是置于特定語境中的，所以記憶語塊后用于表達比單獨記憶單詞再組合表達要方便和準確得多。比如，表達“想法一致”，不熟悉語塊的人可能會這樣組合單詞：“have the same opinion as someone”或者 “have the same thought as someone”,這種表達遠不如語塊“see eye to eye”表達得準確和地道。

語塊還能促進口語表達的流利程度。Nattinger& DeCarrico(1992)認為：“語言的流利程度不是取決于學習者大腦中儲存了多少具有生成性的語法規則, 而是取決于學習者大腦中究竟儲存了多少數量的語塊, 是語塊使人們能流利地表達自我”。語塊作為整體在語言中出現的頻率較高, 較高的頻率可以確保這類語塊能被學生循環使用，而這中重復性練習和使用正是使口語流利的一個基礎。英國威爾士大學心理學教授Nick Ellis（2002）也同樣指出：“語言學習是一個逐步積累范例的過程，流利運用的基礎就是憑借儲存在記憶中的大量范例。在時間緊迫的即時交流中，臨場運用規則造句就需要較多時間和注意力，而且難以做到準確、流利和地道。而記憶儲備中的語塊將給我們及時有效的幫助”。記憶中儲存的語塊的半固定形式能不斷生成新語塊，例如“take____ for granted”,空格中填進去不同的詞就能形成新的語塊：take love for granted、take money for granted 等。它能帶來即時交流所需要的豐富的語意，使思想交流更靈活，使口語表達更流利。

語塊學習對英語寫作的促進作用

Paw ley 和Syder(1983)指出, 困擾外語學習者有兩大問題, 即如何獲得接近本族語的流利性(native-like fluency)和接近本族語的選詞能力(native-like select ion)。所謂接近本族語的選詞能力, 是指學習者能夠選用標準、地道的詞語, 給人以本族語者表達的感覺。事實上, 不少學習者雖然能夠流利地表達自己的思想, 卻始終與本族語者的表達方式存在一定的差異。外語學習者往往從單詞、語法學起, 用外語進行寫作時, 更多地依賴根據語法規則構建起來的句子, 因而忽略了語塊的作用。為了使語言表達地道、生動, 在寫作中大量運用語塊是一個重要的手段。正如成語和歇后語在漢語寫作中所具有的地道、形象的效果一樣，如果在英語特定語境中靈活運用語塊, 可使寫作更加準確、生動, 起到畫龍點睛的作用。掌握大量的語塊結構有助于學習者達到本族語者的選詞能力。例如, 本族語者在表達身體健康時, 很可能使用 “physical fitness”, 而外語學習者很可能會使用 “body heath”之類的句子;再比如表達 “一個特別的人”時,用語塊“a rare bird” 比 “a special person”更形象生動和地道。可見, 在寫作中恰當運用一定的語塊可以保證學習者用現成、地道的語言來表達思想, 使所寫的句子更加地道, 縮小外語學習者與本族語者在詞匯合表達上的差距,。

語塊同樣有利于增強寫作的流利性。寫作流利性通常是指學習者能夠自如而不費力地使用外語進行寫作的能力, 包括語言的流暢性和意義的連貫性(廉潔, 2001)。寫作實際上是用書面語言表達思想的過程。在這一過程中, 記憶中儲存的大量語塊，即形式固定的短語和形式半固定但可以自由組合的短語，在思維的支配下，可以直接使用或者稍微加工后使用，省時省力，一定程度上可以避免思維的間斷，增強寫作語言的流利程度和意義表達的連貫性。

詞塊學習對英語聽力的促進作用

聽力理解也是英語學習者的一個薄弱環節，究其原因是因為學生孤立地去聽每個單詞和每句話，這種方式實際上是聽力的最大阻礙。聽力要求大腦在短時間內對聽到的信息做出即時的理解和判斷，也就說聽力需要聽者的大腦進行高效率的運作。而除了傳統認為的積累單詞量和理解句子語法規則之外，記憶語塊對于提高英語聽力不失為一個好的方法。

由于語塊是較大的詞匯構塊, 大到可以是整個句子, 所以一次性記住的單詞數量就會大大增加。在進行聽力理解的過程中，當大量稍縱即逝的聽力信息源源不斷地進入聽者大腦時，如果學生在記憶里儲存了大量語塊，對聽到的語言形式和語意就不陌生，這樣就可以在特定的時間里即時獲取更多并能夠有效提取信息和理解信息。例如聽到這個長句：Creating a “European identity” that respects the different cultures and conditions which go to make up the connecting fabric of the Old Continent is no easy task and demands a strategic choice.如果單單依靠獨立單詞來逐個解析聽力信息那么時間很可能不夠，如果對語塊熟悉的話，完全可以將長句分解為這幾個語塊：“European identity、respects the different cultures and conditions、make up the connecting fabric、the Old Continent和demands a strategic choice，那就有可能在有限的時間里較為清晰地弄懂聽到的句子。而且由于每個語塊都有語用功能,在記憶和積累語塊的過程中，表示同一功能的語塊以語義場(semantic field)的形式存在于大腦中, 這樣, 語塊可以使學習者獲得一定的語用功能, 在聽力中無需分析過多的干擾性的語法規則僅通過語塊就可判斷語言所發生的語境，提高聽力理解的效率。例如：當一段聽力對話中出現reference room、overdue pay、check out、current issue等語塊時，通常可以認定對話的內容與圖書館有關。

由于語塊還具有組織和銜接語篇結構的功能，如When it comes to 可以表示開頭，Now there is a growing awareness that可以用來提出話題，to sum up用來總結話題，for instance、in particular可以用來舉例，as far as I am concerned用來發表觀點，likewise、on the other hand暗含前后對照，furthermore、in addition表示進一步闡述,indeed、most important 表示強調。因此通過掌握這些語塊，使聽者可以從整體上把握聽力內容，節省對信息做出處理所需的時間，從而實現對聽力內容的準確把握。

除了語塊的意義對聽力有促進作用外，語塊的讀音亦有同樣功能。英語短語在發音時通常存在連讀、省讀、失音等現象，如果平時在記憶語塊時能夠同時注意讀音，那么在聽力理解中出現這些語塊時能很快做出反應。比如，聽到[,k?l?t ?'de] 時知道是 “call it a day ”,聽到[izn ti] 時知道是 “isn’t he”。結論：

綜上所述，語塊的固定結構、可生成性、易于記憶和靈活使用的特性使其在提高英語技能的聽、說、寫方面確實存在一定作用，學習者應該在語言的學習中廣泛閱讀，加強范文背誦，積極積累和使用語塊，提高語塊意識，更有效率地提高英語技能。

中學英語教學中，學生不停的識記單詞，卻不能組成完整意義的語塊，更不能很好地輸出表意的正確句子。以至于學生越學越沒趣，越學越沒勁。因此，有意識地培養學生的語塊敏感度，使學生在英語學習中能自覺地分辨出語塊，并分析記憶和存儲“話題——語塊”，從而提高語言感知能力，準確產出英語語句。才能保證進一步的英語學習。

如何進行語塊的學習感悟、發現語塊。訓練學生如何在所學話題中發現、辨別語塊能力，同時教會學生區分語塊結構中的固定部分和可變部分。猶如本族語中常用的很多搭配與結構不能用語言規則解釋一樣，語塊教學彌補了這一不足。把語塊作為詞匯、會話和語篇教學的重要內容，訓練學生認識語塊、學會發現語塊的習慣，同時在所學的語篇中認識、抓取語塊，語塊本身的慣例性和約定俗成性能提高學習者對語言搭配的敏感性和選詞能力。例如，學生在做這道詞匯題時，一些學生敏感性和選詞能力不足，把More than twenty people were killed in the accident ,including two foreigners.答成了這樣More than twenty people were killed in the area ,including two foreigners.2累積、歸納語塊。在認識、發現語塊的同時，按話題不斷積累、歸納所學語塊。這樣，語塊的功能意義可以起到提示作用，便于學生記憶編碼和提取使用，利用語塊的話語功能，強化學生學習、記憶，增加其語塊的輸出機會。因為抓住了一個話題的幾個主要語塊，也就抓住了一個話題的主要信息。可以訓練語塊在話題（聽力、閱讀材料）中的語用功能，讓學生熟練使用相關的語塊，為再創造語境打下必要的基礎從而提高學生的表達能力。內化、運用語塊。教師應采用靈活的教學方法，盡可能地縮短學生從理解上升到產出所需的時間并擴大產出。可采取鼓勵學生用所學的語塊造句、作文、講故事等，也可按照話題或語用功能訓練，強調對語塊的熟練運用，同時訓練學生的連續表述能力。

語塊學習和英語語言的輸出

成功的英語語塊學習為英語語言的輸出打下了基礎，而英語語言的輸出又為進一步學習語塊提供了途徑和方向。說和寫是語言的表達和輸出環節，也是英語習得的重要渠道，又都有闡述事實、表達思想和說明事物的指向。學生書面表達的表意方法為其口語表達形成了準確達意的習慣，而口語表達的靈活性又促進了學生書面表達的提高。說和寫輸出的流暢，為英語學習贏來更好的可能和意義。

英語書面的表達能力的形成不是一日之功，也不是一周兩月之功，俗話說“千里之行始于足下”。我們必須從平時的課堂教學中一點一滴抓起。具體做法是：①課文的詞匯教學，教師不局限于照本宣章，而是結合英語的構詞，同義反義比較，名詞的可數與不可數詞義的區別，形容詞與副詞的用法等，加強學生對英語詞形變化的理解，擴充他們的詞匯量，增加學生對語塊的內化和運用，鼓勵他們口筆頭造句，借此培養學生用完整句子表意的能力。②課文教學的過程讀、寫、聽、說交替。一般聽說在先，讀寫在后。針對寫作訓練的聽、說、讀、寫要注意材料內容的語言形式和課文內容的語言形式要有適當的變化和整體的系統性，以課文內容的口頭提問為例，教師提問用的詞語結構和課文內容相關，但和課文語言所用詞語要有適當的差異，使學生稍加思考能夠理解，為學生同樣意思多種英語近似表達積累材料，在不知不覺中讓學生了解掌握更多的英語語句表達方法，提高了口語表達能力和書面表達能力。③指導學生就課文內容進行長句短寫，短句詳寫的口筆頭練習，幫助學生熟練掌握英語中常用動詞句子的結構變化，單句和復句的異同關鍵所在。使用頻率高，結構變化較多的英語常用動詞如wish，hope，expect之類的動詞要經常反復采用不同形式練習，幫助學生熟練掌握常用動詞句子結構和詞義區別，逐步在心理上樹立用英語造句達意的信心和習慣。這樣，中學生英語的口頭和書面輸出的準確度就會提高。

摘要：英語教學以培養學生的英語綜合應用能力為目標, 這意味著不僅要使學生知道如何生成語法規范的句子, 還要使學生熟練地運用語言。詞塊是構成語言的基礎，詞塊的使用可以大大提高語言輸出的流利性、準確性和得體性。筆者認為在平時的英語課堂上英語教師應加強詞塊教學，培養學生的詞塊意識，以提高學生的綜合運用能力。

一、引言、在教學中我們發現，學生在英語學習過程中在詞匯上花了不少的時間并有足夠的詞匯量，但是一到運用（如口頭交際，寫作）的時候卻犯難了。學生在運用時往往只憑所記憶的單詞和語法規則編寫句子，從而不能保證句子表達的正確性或符合英語的表達習慣，從而造成詞不達意（陳偉平2008:48）。國內外學者研究發現：增強學習者的詞塊意識是提高綜合運用能力的一種好途徑。Cook(1991:40)指出：“對孤立的詞重復是一種淺層處理，記憶效果差；將詞與所在語法結構結合起來則是較深層的處理，記憶效果好。”

二、詞塊的定義

詞塊（lexical chunks）又被稱做lexical phrases、pre-fabricated speech，通常指同現頻率較高、形式和意義較固定的大于單詞的結構。這種結構同時兼有詞匯和語法特征（楊玉晨1999）。Nattinger和DeCarrioco（2000）把詞塊大致分以下4種情況：1)多詞詞匯（polywords），如 in a word，on the contrary.2)約定俗成的表達（institutionalized expressions）包括諺語、警句、社交公式語。如How do you do? 3)限制性結構短語（phrasal constraints）如as far as I know…, as well as.4)句子框架和引語（sentence builders）not only….but also….，I think that....I’m a great believer in X。

三、學習詞塊的作用

桂詩春通過研究發現：詞匯搭配錯誤是中國學習者最常見的錯誤（屈典寧 鄧軍 2010）。李紅葉（2004）也指出詞塊通常作為一個統一的整體進入人們的記憶，有助于提高語言的準確性和流利度。具體的講主要有一下幾方面的作用： 4.1 有利于記憶和儲存語言知識

桂詩春（2002）說：“一個塊是一條有聯系的信息，其中一部分可以幫助記憶另一部分”。詞塊有其內部結構和意義的制約性，其中一部分可以幫助記憶另一部分，比脫離語境的單詞更容易記憶。于秀蓮（2008）和屈典寧（2008）對大學

生進行的實驗研究證明：詞塊記憶法可以提高學生的記憶效果。4.2 有利于提高語言輸出的的流利性，準確性和地道性

第二語言習得研究表明，人們在言語交際中使用兩種編碼方式：一是以語法為基礎的規則型的（rule-based）;一種是以詞匯短語為基礎范例型的（instance-based）。前者可以使句子更有創造性和靈活性但需要大量的時間。而后者在輸出時不必臨時組合就可以整體快速提取使用，具有極強的可及性（accessibility）和提取效應優勢，減輕了大腦的語言編碼壓力，確保大腦的迅速反應，從而極大地提高語言的流利性。Nattinger & DeCarrico認為，人們使用語言的流利程度不取決于學習者大腦中存儲了多少生成語法規則，而在于存儲了多少詞塊。如果語言產出過程中沒有現成的、預制的詞塊，流利性的概念便無從談起。同時在交際中多用詞塊也避免了因文化差異而帶來的語用失誤，可以使學習者所說的句子更地道。4.3 有利于提高聽力的理解效率

聽是接受稍縱即逝的語音刺激。聽力差的學習者往往是百倍精神地試著聽懂每一個單詞但到頭什么已沒有聽到，這主要是由于以語音形式儲存的語塊的量不夠大從而不能對話語中占很大比例的固定和半固定短語即詞塊以整體形式直接提取而是把它們當做自由組成的短語。如果學習者儲存的語塊越多，在聽的過程中信息處理耗費的資源就越少，理解效果就越好。

四、教學啟示

首先應堅決糾正學生只注重孤立、機械地背單詞的不良習慣。教師應多給學生傳授詞塊方面的知識，培養學生對詞塊的敏感度和識別能力。其次加強詞塊輸入，培養學生的詞塊意識。無論在課堂教學還是學生的課后閱讀中，都要求學生識別并提煉出材料中的詞塊。著重訓練學生在詞塊上的連續表達能力，這有助于學習者最終提高小句、句子的表達能力（張玉英2008）.參考文獻：
