Yet today, more than half the world’s working population is in vulnerable employment.They lack formal work arrangements and social security, and often earn too little to provide for their families, let alone climb the ladder of economic opportunity.The global economic crisis has further pushed an estimated 64 million into poverty and

For decades the United Nations has worked to free people from poverty.聯合國幾十年如一日致力于使人們擺脫貧窮。

We have made great progress? But today those gains are in doubt.我們取得了重大進展——然而如今這些成果卻令人存疑。

Too many people are living in fear:

無數人生活在恐懼之中；

Fear of losing their jobs;

Fear of not being able to feed their families;

害怕不能賺錢養家；

Fear of being trapped forever in poverty, deprived of the human right to live with health and dignity and hope for the future.害怕永遠受窮、被剝奪人權，不能健康、有尊嚴的生活，對未來看不到希望。

We can meet the challenges we face ? the economic crisis, climate change, rising costs of food and energy, the effects of natural disasters.我們能夠接受我們所面臨的各種挑戰——經濟危機、氣候變化、不斷上升的食品和能源費用，以及自然災害的影響。

We can overcome them by putting people at the centre of our work.只要我們的工作以人為本就能戰勝這些挑戰。

Too often in the debates that will shape our future, I see three groups missing.The poor ? the young? And the planet.在構造我們未來的辯論中，我往往看不到三個群體的身影。窮人……青年……和我們居住的星球。
