第一篇：會議的英文說法及區(qū)別

grand gathering就是“大會”，指的是盛大的會議，也可稱之為“盛會”。這種會議通常比較隆重，規(guī)模大，內(nèi)容重要，有紀(jì)念意義。convention一般側(cè)重指某一政黨或團體為某一特殊目的而召開的會議，也可指學(xué)術(shù)團體的年會（annual meeting）；

conference指的是通常持續(xù)幾天的大型會議、研討會；凡是比較正式的會議，無論涉及哪方面，幾乎都可以使用，使用范圍廣。

assembly指的是集會，通常有許多人參加，是計劃好的、為某一特殊目的而召集的會議。在圖書館中，會議論文通常在書目中會有Conference、Proceedings、Meeting、Seminar、Symposium、Workshop、研討會、論文集等字眼。Workshop是泛指較小型，但互動性較高的會議，而一般的學(xué)會則多以Convention & Conference為會議總稱，來涵蓋一切的會議。細(xì)分則是

 1.Meeting：是各類人為了某一目的進行聚會的通用總體稱謂。它的最初意思是指與某人見面或聚首。在這里的意思是：如果有多于兩個的人聚集到一起談話和討論，這種活動行為被稱為會議。由于會議的定義相當(dāng)廣泛所以很難清晰的區(qū)分，它意指各類聚集，有準(zhǔn)備或無準(zhǔn)備的，正式或非正式的，時間可長可短，規(guī)模可大可小，參加人數(shù)可多可少等等。為了明確會議種類，因此會議名稱需要進一步劃分。

 2.Conference：是指正式的會議，通常持續(xù)幾天，有一個特定的主題，將有共同愛好目的的人聚集到一起，在討論會上經(jīng)常發(fā)生正規(guī)討論。相比較而言，討論會一般是指特殊專業(yè)或?qū)W術(shù)活動。與congress比，規(guī)模較小，但涵義較高，信息交換較易。

 3.Symposium：它的復(fù)數(shù)形式為Symposiums 或者Symposia。專指特殊學(xué)術(shù)討論的集會。某種特定領(lǐng)域的專家，學(xué)者和與會者探討一個特定的主題。與Conference相比較，Symposium一般更狹義特指某一范圍。在規(guī)模上專題會比Conference小，類似forum，但參與人數(shù)較多，會期2-3天，而且較正式。

 4.Congress：基本特點是由專屬國家的，政府或非政府組織的代表或委員參加。它的舉辦是為了討論爭端，計劃和公眾利益。通常規(guī)模大，有代表性，范圍廣。舉例說明：第二屆世界婦女大會由聯(lián)合國舉辦，有來自世界各地的兩萬名代表出席。

 5.Convention：是一種例行會議，大量聚集人群討論其組織和政團事務(wù)。例如每年的聯(lián)合國大會，兩年一次的金屬協(xié)會會議。通常由博學(xué)的社團，專業(yè)學(xué)術(shù)協(xié)會或非政府組織主辦。參加者是依指示參加，目的是為了組織特定目的或商討政策等，convention有時會附帶小型分組展覽。

 6.Forum：論壇實際上是一種公眾集會，在那里人們交換思想，討論問題，特別是重要的公眾問題。舉例：亞洲經(jīng)濟論壇會。

7.Lecture 演講：僅由一位專家來作報告，報告后不一定會接受觀眾的提問。

 8.Seminar 學(xué)術(shù)會議：通常是類似課堂的會議，一群專家藉一次或一系列集會來達到訓(xùn)練或進修的目的。不同于一般情況的會議，主要由發(fā)言者演示，同時其它的人先聽之后參與討論或發(fā)問。在這種意義上，一個學(xué)術(shù)會議可看成演講加討論--討論通常跟在演講后面。 9.Workshop研習(xí)會：由幾個人進行密集討論的集會，通常需當(dāng)場作練習(xí)，如：國際禮儀、站姿等等。

 10.Colloquium 學(xué)習(xí)報告：是seminar 的一種正式用法。通常指大型的學(xué)術(shù)會議分小組討論。邀請某一領(lǐng)域的專家，專業(yè)人士參加，與會者將表示他們在特定領(lǐng)域的思想和看法，屬于非正式不定期會議。

 11.Panel Discussion 座談：座談成員是一群專家，對于專門課題提出觀點再進行座談，并且有一位主持人。

 12.Assembly 集會：正式的全體集會，參加者以組織成員為主，固定時間及地點定期舉行。
