No.2 The One With the Sonogram at the End
1.Rachel: Everything you need to know is in that first kiss.
2.Chandler: Yeah, I think for us, kissing is pretty much like an opening act, y'know? I mean it's like the stand-up comedian you have to sit through before Pink Floyd comes out.
3.Marsha: Well, she has issues. Do you have any issues?
4.Carol: Marty's still totally paranoid.
5.Rachel: Oh, like I wasn't dreading tomorrow enough, having to give it back to him...'Hi Barry!Remember me? I'm the girl in the veil who stomped on your heart in front of your entire family!' Oh God and now I'm gonna have to return the ring, without the ring, which makes it so much harder...
6.Chandler: Kinda puts that whole pillow thing in perspective, huh, Mon?“kinda”在片中出現的次數非常頻繁,也是口語中非常實用的詞語,意思是有一點兒,相當于kind of.
7.Monica: I know this is going to sound unbelievably selfish, but, were you planning on bringing up the whole baby/lesbian thing? Because I think it might take some of the heat off me.Ross和Monica的父母來看望他們,由于從小父母就喜歡Ross(因為Ross成績優異,為人老實,而Monica性格獨立,而且那時候還很胖chubby),所以在吃飯的時候老是無意識的諷刺Monica,于是Monica想讓Ross提提自己老婆是Lesbian而且有了孩子的事兒轉移注意力。Take some of the heat off sb,這里是幫Monica減輕壓力的意思。
8.Mrs.Geller: Well, at least she had the chance to leave a man at the altar...“at the altar”應該理解為“在婚禮上,在舉行婚禮時”,altar這里就可以理解為”教堂“,所以這句話的意思,我認為應該是:(雖然Rachel的父母為籌備婚禮花了不少錢,而Rachel又逃婚),但是至少Rachel還有機會在舉行婚禮之際離開那個男人,(言下之意,Monica到現在連個結婚還都沒有)。
9.Mr.Geller: Look, there are people like Ross who need to shoot for the stars, with his museum, and his papers getting published.Other people are satisfied with staying where they are-I'm telling you , these are the people who never get cancer.“shoot for”是爭取、得到或完成的意思。
10.Ross: Well, you may wanna steer clear of the word 'dumped'.Chances are he's gonna be this, this broken shell of a man, y'know, so you should try not to look too terrific, I know it'll be hard.Or, y'know, uh, hey!, I'll go down there, and I'll give Barry back his ring, and you can go with Carol and Susan to the OB/GYN...“wanna”=want to,口語中常這樣子簡化,類似得還有”gonna”,就是going to得意思。
11.Ross: How could I forget?
12.Ross: 'S'funny, um, uh, we agreed we'd spend the rest of our lives together.Things change, roll with the punches.I believe Julia's on the table..?“roll with the punches”punch除了打孔機的意思之外,還有打擊的意思,這里應該是說,讓這些打擊減輕一些吧(Roll就是滾的意思,那當然是減輕了)?!
13.Chandler: I dunno, but..I think it's about to attack the Enterprise.“dunno”是don’t know的縮寫,Chandler和Joey被逼著看sonogram的錄像帶,可是看得一頭霧水,Chandler居然說似乎是胎兒要進攻了。
CVN65 the Enterprise us navy aircraft carrier
NCC-1701A(TOS movie,The Search for Spock(III)里,Kirk為了殺死Klingon人把1701炸了,Voyage Home(IV)最后StarFleet把另一艘船改名為The Enterprise,編號NCC-1701A,The Final Frontier(V),The Undiscovered Country(VI)里也是這艘船)
Enterprise)
NCC-1701D(TNG 電視劇,Picard那代的船,在電影Generation(VII)最后墜毀)NCC-1701E(TNG電影,First Contact(VIII),Insurrection(IX),Nemesis(X)中的船,在Nemesis(X)遭到嚴重毀壞但已被修復,沒有下文)
至于Friends中提到的,我記得原話是“I think it's about to attack the Enterprise”,肯定是指Star Trek,Chan覺得那個超聲波圖看起來像是Alien Vessel。
---------
1.Ross: Does she.Marsha: He's out banging other women over the head with a club, while she sits at home trying to get the mastodon smell out of the carpet!
2.Phoebe: She's already fluffed that pillow...Monica, you know, you've already fluffed that-(Monica glares at her.)-but, it's fine!
Monica: Look , I'm sorry, guys, I just don't wanna give them any more ammunition than they already have.Q: ammunition
3.Phoebe: Monica-Hi!Um, Monica, you're scaring me.I mean, you're like, you're like all chaotic and twirly.And not-not in a good way.Q: chaotic and twirly
4.Chandler: Ugly Naked Guy got a Thighmaster!Q:Thighmaster
Thigh Master
5.ob/gyn的正確意思 Main Entry: OB-GYN
Function: abbreviation:obstetrician gynecologist, obstetrics gynecology
6.chandler說Monica :You don't get a lot of 'doy' these days
first people used to say “duh” which is a sound that indicated stupidity, but for a little while, it turned into “doy” which has the same meaning.it just SOUNDS stupid.7.the “comedian” argument
Chandler: The problem is, though, after the concert's over, no matter how great the show was, you girls are always looking for the comedian again, y'know? I mean, we're in the car, we're fighting traffic...basically just trying to stay awake.Rachel: Yeah, well, word of advice: Bring back the comedian.Otherwise next time you're gonna find yourself sitting at home, listening to that album alone.
1.chan用類比,show對應sex,comedian對應first kiss, fighting traffic 我想是指男人面對女人總要找 more feelings of first kiss than sex, basically just trying to stay awake 我想是指男人通常就會搞得很沒心情
Rachel用comedian對應first kiss, listening to that album對應sex 2. Just imagine this:
When the show is over, the man drives his girlfriend home.On the way home, while the man is fighting with the heavy traffic, the woman is nagging crazily about the whole comedian thing like forever. The man doesn't see why his girl is so attacted to the geek comedian, and he is totally freaked out and feels like being tortured by her girlfriend.Like Chandler stated later in 50*, he can't screw up their relationship by telling the truth, like yelling at his girl “Would you just stop nagging, Mom(Mon), Gees.” He can do nothing but try to stay awake or learn how to sleep with his eyes open, otherwise he's gonna be in a very dangerous situation with his girl. The same thing could probably happen after the 2 lovers made out.It seems like a rule for guys in Friends to discuss all the stuff related to “it” after making love , which is especially obvious in 301TOW the Leia.In that eppy, Rachel sold Ross out by revealing his little sexual fantacy to Phoebe. So, I guess the by saying “in a car or fighting traffic” things, chandler indicates 2 lovers chat or “discuss” about sex, just like people like to talk about a show right after it is over.Unfortunately lovers have pretty good chances to be at odds with each other on this kind of occasion.3.here, “comedian” means “kiss”(not “first kiss”, Rachel says “everything you need to know is in the first kiss”, just because she think that “from the first kiss you can read his/her real feeling about you, so first kiss is important”), “concert” means “sex”.When having sex, girls like something gentle and romantic like kiss, like move fingers on lovers' body(the stand-up comedian), while what boys really want is(mostly)just in-and-out, the physical excitement and the climax(that's Pink Floyd's live show, that's why we bought the ticket, hahahaha....).And after the sex, girls tends to hug and kiss and keep on enjoying the romance(looking for the comedian again), but boys.....u know, satisfied and exhausted(we r in the car, we r fighting traffic), we always prefer falling in sleep. But not to piss off our sweetheart, boys have to hug back and kiss back and tell her 'I love you'......basically just trying to stay awake.Well, Rachel's answer is really funny, each time i just can't help laughing, hahahaha.....She says “word of advice: Bring back the comedian.Otherwise next time you're gonna find yourself sitting at home, listening to that album alone”, that is, “You better kiss her after the sex, Otherwise next time nobody wants to have sex with you except yourself(you can only satisfy yourself by wank)” 確實是很Blue,不過我覺得Friends最吸引人的地方之一就是以一種很隨意戲謔的態度討論性的問題,很輕松很愉快(而且我覺得還算比較健康了)。
2、“He's out ”在這里表狀態,表示“他在外面……”,后面“banging other women over the head with a club”是他在外面所干的事。
3、speaking of issues
4、I gave you one job“我只給了你一件事干!”
5、Do that for another two hours, you might be where I am right about now.“你(的表情)再保持這樣兩小時,就會變成我現在這樣。”
6、Kinda puts that whole pillow thing in perspective, huh, Mon“這樣的話,枕頭的事就可先放在一旁?
8、up to me!——由我決定!
10.Monica: I hate men!I hate men!
Phoebe: Oh no, don't hate, you don't want to put that out into the universe.Pheobe is new age, so she's really aware of the universe and how things relate to it.and she just means that you don't want to put hatred out into the world.and she was being a little over-dramatic about it.11.Chances are he's gonna be this ,this broken shell of a man.““現在他可能痛不欲生”
12.stomped on your heart
13.shoot for stars
Mathew plays tennis like a pro.
15.maid of honor伴娘, best man伴郎
17.cheap shot shot是指她嘗試做的那件事情, 比如give it a shot就是give it a try 那種做法有點賤, 賤就是便宜, 便宜就是 cheap
18.”you've got me!你難到我了“.19.Phigh-powered,driven career type指那種熱衷于工作的人;
21.I,m an orthodontist就是做牙齒矯形、正畸的醫生
22.roll with the punches
23.plugs 植發;They haven't quite taken yet。
24.Ross:“Well, y' know , these people are pros. They know what they're doing, they take their time, they get the job done.”
25.Greenstein's gagging.Greenstein
26.Helen Willick-Bunch-Geller Cause I think that borders on child abuse.
27.gets his way 是說Ross的”如意算盤"可以實現了
28.I was just wondering about the mother-to-be, but..thanks for sharing.
29.you're welling up.if feelings well up inside you, they become very strong :A sense of hurt and outrage welled up inside him.
[102]The One With The Sonogram At The End antique’s No.2 The One With the Sonogram at the End 1.Rachel: Everything you need to know is in that first kiss.

Oh God and now I'm gonna have to return the ring, without the ring, which makes it so much harder...
9.Mr.Geller: Look, there are people like Ross who need to shoot for the stars, with his museum, and his papers getting published.Other people are satisfied with staying where they are-I'm telling you, these are the people who never get cancer.“shoot for”是爭取、得到或完成的意思。

13.Chandler: I dunno, but..I think it's about to attack the Enterprise.“dunno”是don’t know的縮寫,Chandler和Joey被逼著看sonogram的錄像帶,可是看得一頭霧水,Chandler居然說似乎是胎兒要進攻了。

CVN65 the Enterprise us navy aircraft carrier
1.Ross: Does she.Marsha: He's out banging other women over the head with a club, while she sits at home trying to get the mastodon smell out of the carpet!Q:他在外頭用棍子痛擊其他女人的腦袋,而她卻坐在家里想方設法地讓野象聞到地毯的味道。

rach用comedian對應first kiss, listening to that album對應sex 2. Just imagine this: When the show is over, the man drives his girlfriend home.On the way home, while the man is fighting with the heavy traffic, the woman is nagging crazily about the whole comedian thing like forever. So, I guess the by saying “in a car or fighting traffic” things, chandler indicates 2 lovers chat or “discuss”about sex, just like people like to talk about a show right after it is over.Unfortunately lovers have pretty good chances to be at odds with each other on this kind of occasion.3.here, “comedian” means “kiss”(not “first kiss”, rachel says “everything you need to know is in the first kiss”, just because she think that “from the first kiss you can read his/her real feeling about you, so first kiss is important”), “concert” means “sex”.When having sex, girls like something gentle and romantic like kiss, like move fingers on lovers' body(the stand-up comedian), while what boys really want is(mostly)just in-and-out, the physical excitement and the climax(that's Pink Floyd's live show, that's why we bought the ticket, hahahaha....).And after the sex, girls tends to hug and kiss and keep on enjoying the romance(looking for the comedian again), but boys.....u know, satisified and exhausted(we r in the car, we r fighting traffic), we always prefer falling in sleep.
2、“He's out ”在這里表狀態,表示“他在外面??”,后面“banging other women over the head with a club”是他在外面所干的事。
10.Monica: I hate men!I hate men!Phoebe: Oh no, don't hate, you don't want to put that out into the universe.pheobe is new age, so she's really aware of the universe and how things relate to it.and she just means that you don't want to put hatred out into the world.and she was being a little over-dramatic about it.11.Chances are he's gonna be this, this broken shell of a man.““現在他可能痛不欲生”
12.stomped on your heart
13.shoot for stars

21.I,m an orthodontist就是做牙齒矯形、正畸的醫生
22.roll with the punches
23.plugs 植發;They haven't quite taken yet。
24.Ross:“Well, y'know, these people are pros. They know what they're doing, they take their time, they get the job done.”
【103】The One With The Thumb antique’s NO.3 The One With the Thumb
這集的主要情節如下:Ross終于發現真相:童年時的愛犬Chichi(天啦,不是我們這個論壇cici的兄妹吧?)
1.Phoebe: Um, not so good.He walked me to the subway and said 'We should do this again!' 比如“It's not you'”就是“It is you”,“You're such a nice guy”意思是 “I'm gonna be dating leather-wearing alcoholics and complaining about them to you”等等。
2.Joey: Yeah.Cushions the blow.
3.Monica: I mean, why should I let them meet him? I mean, I bring a guy home, and within five minutes they're all over him.I mean, they're like-coyotes, picking off the weak members of the herd.Paula: Listen. As someone who's seen more than her fair share of bad beef, I'll tell you: that is not such a terrible thing.I mean, they're your friends, they're just looking out after you. Pick off the weak members of the herd,摘取、挑選弱處下手的意思。
4.Paula: Well, you do realise the odds of that happening are a little slimmer if they never get to meet the guy..odds這里的意思是可能的機會、幾率,相當于Chance。 5.Monica:(to Alan)Thanks.I'll call you tomorrow.(Alan exits, to all)Okay.Okay, let's let the Alan-bashing begin.Who's gonna take the first shot, hmm? “take the first shot”也值得記下,各種場合都可以用,“誰先來?”,呵呵,Antique的筆記那么臭,開批判會啦,who’s gonna take the first shot? 6.Ross:...So I think Alan will become the yardstick against which all future boyfriends will be measured.“yardstick” 本身是一種丈量工具,即 “碼尺、準繩”,其引申之意也就是 “衡量? Is diploma the only yardstick of knowledge?
7.Chandler: So I have a flaw!Big deal!Like Joey's constant knuckle-cracking isn't annoying? And Ross, with his over-pronouncing every single word? And Monica, with that snort when she laughs? I mean, what the hell is that thing?...I accept all those flaws, why can't you accept me for this? Antique is so perfect,he has no flaw?.,big deal單獨用在某句話中多半表示反語或者反問,用的更常見的是no big deal.
8.Monica: Can you believe it?...Y'know what? I just don't feel the thing.I mean, they feel the thing, I don't feel the thing.Paula: Honey..you should always feel the thing.Listen, if that's how you feel about the guy, Monica, dump him!
9.Chandler: Hey, y'know, I have had it with you guys and your cancer and your emphysema and your heart disease. The bottom line is, smoking is cool, and you know it.“I have had it”是個常用句式,意思是我已經受夠了。 Bottom line是底線的意思,如果某人惹惱了你,你可以來一句,you have reach my bottom line.10.Alan: Yeah, I'm sorry too. But, I gotta tell you, I am a little relieved. -----------
1.Paula:As someone who's seen more than her fair share of bad beef
2.Monica:Okay, let's let the Alan-bashing begin.Who's gonna take the first shot, hmm?
3.Ross:The way he makes me feel about myself.
4.Phoebe I know, I opened it up and there it was, just floating in there, like this tiny little hitch-hiker!hitch-hiker是搭順風車的人。
5.degenerate into bickering
6.I just don't feel the thing I just don't feel the thing 時,the thing是指她對Alan沒有什么特殊的感覺,也就是說不來電,而當廚師Paula回答Monica說You should always ”feel“ ”the thing“時,”the thing“ 指的是男人“那話兒”,她是在說女生決定愛不愛一個男生之前一定先得“驗驗貨”。
7.Pop-Tart
8.giant karmic debt
9.all over him 這里all over him的意思是,不喜歡,全身挑毛病
這種詞一定要看上下文,在they all find out 那集,chan對mon說 pheo is all over him ,這里就有引誘,往身上貼的意思,委婉的說是喜歡,:)
all over sb.
I'm all over you. I have a crush on you. Hey, look, the guy is dancing all over the girl.I'm over you. I'm all over you 是完全不一樣的.
13.The hair comes out, and the gloves come on gloves(come on)是從一句俗語來的,其實就相當于hurt somebody。
本來rachel是站在phoebe一條戰線上的(she thinks phoebe's chewing hair is endearing),沒想到pheobe“恩將仇報”的諷刺了她一回,Rachel覺得被出賣了,所以說phoebe has the gloves on.說有時候你還會聽到類似的說法:“not lay a glove(fingure or hand)on”,which means leave unhurt.14.Or, or, y'know, um, 'I think we should see other people' means 'Ha, ha, I already am'.“我想我們該約會其他人”“哈哈,我已經在約會別人啦”
15.Cushions the blow cushion
16.loosely translated
17.Hassidic jewellers。Hassidic adj.members of a strict Jewish sect 18.deja vu n.
(French expression adopted in English)a feeling that you are seeing something you have 'already seen' before...in a past life, dream, etc...19.But you'll have to live with the knowledge that you sent an honest man to die live with可理解為承受,knowledge就是指 you sent an honest man to die這個事實
20.Phoebe:Yeah-no-I'm jut-it's,I haven't worked-It's my bank.I haven't worked 的后半句應該是 it out,她心情很亂,不知道怎么說才好,才語無倫次
21.I've heard schho much about all you guyschh!monica之前在perk里談到她前一個男友總被他們嘲笑,原因就是那個男的說話舌頭不直,chan還學他說:“We love Schhteve!Schhteve was schhexy!”
22.Hassidie jewellers(猶太珠寶商)是他們比賽的對手,showed a thing or two about softball,給他們露了一兩招
23.I stepped in gum....What is up with the universe?
What is up with...
24.the way they were“原來的樣子”
25.Yeah.He could row like a viking就是劃起船來像個海盜,意思是他很有型 26.I don't care“我不在乎”
【104】The One With George Stephanopoulos antique’s NO.4 The One With George Stephanopoulos
1.Phoebe: Okay, okay.If I were omnipotent for a day, I would want, um, world peace, no more hunger, good things for the rain-forest...And bigger boobs!
2.Ross: Today's the day Carol and I first..consummated our physical relationship.(Joey is puzzled.)Sex...You know what, I-I'd better pass on the game.I think I'm just gonna go home and think about my ex-wife and her lesbian lover. 另外一個詞組是pass on sth,相當于let sth pass,它還有去世(相當于pass away)和傳遞的意思,有時候我們也可以說pass on my best wish to sb,請代為轉達我最美好的祝愿。
3.Ross: Alright, alright, maybe it'll take my mind off it.Do you promise to buy me a big thumb finger?
4.Rachel: God, isn't this exciting? I earned this.I wiped tables for it, I steamed milk for it, and it was totally—(opens envelope)—not worth it.Who's FICA? Why's he getting all my money? I mean, what-Chandler, look at that.
5.Chandler: Excuse me, look, we've been here for over an hour, and a lot of people less sick than my friend have gone in.I mean, that guy with the toe thing? Who's he sleeping with?(She slides the gladd panel over and Chandler talks through it in a loud voice.)Oh, c'mon Dora, don't be mad...I know we both said some things we didn't mean, but that doesn't mean we still don't love each other.(To the waiting room.)Y'know, I feel like I've lost her..(She slides the panel back, he turns, and it takes him by surprise.)Ba-!三個好友一起去看冰球賽,結果Ross光榮負傷,于是緊急送到醫院,不料那個值班員正在煲電話粥,態度不好,Chandler好言好語卻毫無效果,于是發了點小脾氣,沒料到吃了閉門羹,所以他陰陽怪氣的來了一段臺詞?.6.Ross: I remember the moonlight coming through the window-and her face had the most incredible glow.
7.Kid: I found it.Finders keepers, losers weepers.(Ross looks at Chandler for help.)
8.Ross:(to the kid)Oh yeah? Well, I'm rubber, you're glue, whatever—(to Chandler)—can't do it.(to the kid)Listen, uh-gimme back my puck. “I’m rubber,you’re glue,whatever(you say bounces off me and stick to you)”在Friends中出現了好幾次,這里顯然也是小孩子們拌嘴皮子時候用的。
-------
1.”The glass is half empty.“ 有這樣的一種比喻“如果有一個只裝了一半水的水杯,樂觀者認為‘水杯有一半是滿得’悲觀者則認為‘有一半是空的’”,這就是“pessimist”和“The glass is half empty.”
3.You have no idea how loud they are!
prep the guy。
5.Floopy: It doesnt mean anything. Its just a word *they* chose to describe that messed up feeling where nothing is solid and nothing is sure(instead it's changeable)floopy makes people think of rubber or a wet fish flopping around.
it's all gonna come together。
9.that gug with the toe thing腳趾受傷的人;chandler的這個笑話,如果放在中國就是”他是不是開了后門“,只是他指的這個后門不是通關系或者送錢,而是直接貢獻身體.
14.What is FICA? FICA=Federal Insurance Contributions Act The FICA tax, also known as the Social Security tax, is paid equally by the employer and employee. This tax is composed of two elements: 1.OASDI--The old age, survivor and disability portion of the tax is paid on wages up to the maximum covered wage base for the year.2.HI--The hospital insurance or Medicare portion of the tax is paid on all wages, without limit.15.George Stephanopoulos是克林頓的競選顧問,而George Snuffalopagus是芝麻街當紅主角Big Bird自己腦子里構造出來的朋友。
16.You got way too much free time.way too就是太怎么怎么樣。 u r way too young to see that 17.I don't even have a 'pl'.
18.duplex
19.Leetch spots Messier in the crease-there's the pass! Brian Leetch, Mark Messier是美國國家冰球聯盟(National Hockey League)New York Ranger的明星球員。
【105】The One With the East German Laundry Detergent antique’s NO.5 The One With the East German Laundry Detergent
1.Ross: Not that big a deal? It's amazing.Ok, you just reach in there, there's one little maneuver, and bam, a bra right out the sleeve. All right, as far as I'm concerned, there is nothing a guy can do that even comes close.Am I right? Rachel: Come on!You guys can pee standing up.Chandler: We can? All right, I'm tryin' that.Joey: Ok, you know what blows my mind? Women can see breasts any time they want. You just look down and there they are.How you get any work done is beyond me.Phoebe: Oh, ok, you know what I don't get? The way guys can do so many mean things, and then not even care.
(Come on!You guys can pee standing up.)” pee是個非?? I need / have to go to the bathroom.Joey 也發表意見說: “Ok, you know what blows my mind? Women can see breasts any time they want. You just look down and there they are.How you get any work done is beyond me.(你們知道什么讓我覺得驚奇嗎? You’d better cherish the opportunity and don’t blow it. The professor’s lecture is beyond my mind。
最后Phoebe 說: “Oh, ok, you know what I don't get? The way guys can do so many mean things, and then not even care.”
2.Chandler: No, I know, but it's just so hard, you know? I mean, you're sitting there with her, she has no idea what's happening, and then you finally get up the courage to do it, and there's the horrible awkward moment when you've handed her the note.“get up the courage to do sth”,鼓足勇氣做某事,類似的詞組還有nerve oneself to do sth,be on one’s mettle to do sth, take heart of grace to do sth?
3.Joey: No, yeah, no, ok, but not yet.I don't wanna seem too eager. One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi. That seems pretty cool.(he walks over to her)Hey, Angela. 這里“One Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Mississippi”中的Mississippi沒有特殊含義,主要起到延時作用。
4.Ross: Ok, ok, now what is wrong with my Snuggles? What, it says I'm a sensitive, warm kinda guy, you know, like a little, fuzzy bear.Ok, I can pick something else up on the way.Chandler: There you go.Sensitive是敏感的、靈敏的意思,注意一下其他同根詞,sensible是明智的、有判斷力的意思,sensational是轟動的、聳人聽聞的意思;這里Ross聽到Chandler說他的柔順劑不好時候,進行了反駁,他說“我現在用的柔順劑又怎么不好了?
There you go口語中也很常見,可用Here/There sb go的句式概括,一般就是表示贊同、贊賞的意思或者相當于here/there you are。
5.Monica: It is so great to meet a guy who is smart and funny, and has an emotional age beyond, like eight.
6.Phoebe: Ok, you can do this. It's just like pulling off a Band-aid.Just do it really fast, and then the wound is exposed.pull off是努力實現、贏得的意思,這里則是用了本意把繃帶紗布拉掉的意思。
7.Rachel: Except it didn't.It happened to me.Oh, god, I'm gonna look like a big marshmallow peep. What am I doing? What am I doing? My father's right.I can't live on my own!I can't even do laundry!“except it didn’t”可以當作固定用法記下,意思是“才不是呢”,或者學學港臺普通話翻譯成“哪有?”,似乎有點撒嬌的意思在里面了。 8.Ross: You were incredible!Brand new woman, ladies and gentlemen.Rachel: I could not have done this without you. (I could not have done this without you),不僅如此,她還kiss了一下Ross哦,浪漫溫馨的不得了!
---------
1.Ross: Multiple orgasms
2.there's the horrible awkward moment when you've handed her the note.
3.belch the alphabet.“belch the alphabet”belch本意是打嗝、噴射,這里表示“吐出”,所謂打嗝會嗝出字母,就是指有些無聊的人,會故意打一個長長的嗝,然后會利用打嗝發出字母的音,有一些很厲害又沒事的無聊人,真的有辦法用打嗝從A念到Z。
4.hold on camper。
6.I can't even send back soup rachel連在餐廳里多點的湯都不敢退,說明rachel在和人打交道上真是很差.
10.Monica: It is so great to meet a guy who is smart and funny, and has an emotional age beyond, like eight.

5.Wow, being dumped by you obviously agrees with her 是MON譏笑JOEY的話,字面是WOW!
6.”you don't say“ actually means Really? Is that really true? 7.proofs
8.that hug looked pretty brutal。 11.marshmallow peep Originally,Marshmallow Peep is a kinda marshmallow figured as a little chicken, but now it comes in all kinds of colors, sizes and shapes.Believe it or not, Marshmallow Peeps is celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2003.marshmallow就是棉花糖啊,流氓兔子的那個音就是這個
14.there is nothing a guy can do that even comes close come close,

17.I had a 24-inch waist, 。?/p>
18.How you get any work done is beyond me。beyond sb.
19.Bullwinkel and Bullwinkle是個卡通片,里面的人物就是moose and squirrel.
【106】The One With the Butt antique’s NO.6 The One With the Butt
1.Chandler: You can always spot someone who's never seen one of his plays before.Notice, no fear, no sense of impending doom... Freud!(The exclamation point in the title scares me.(Gesturing)Y'know, it's not just Freud, it's Freud!),大概是覺得弗洛伊德這個角色太難演繹了吧,說白了還是擔心Joey的水準。
2.Monica: Did anybody else feel they just wanted to peel the skin off their body, to have something else to do?
3.Chandler: So explain something to me here, uh, what kind of a relationship do you imagine us having if you already have a husband and a boyfriend?
4.Rachel: Look!I cleaned!I did the windows, I did the floors...I even used all the attachments on the vacuum, except that little round one with the bristles, I don't know what that's for. Attachment means “A supplementary part;an accessory”,附屬物、附件、附屬裝置。
5.Chandler: Thank God you didn't try to fan out the magazines.I mean, she'll scratch your eyes right out.。 Chandler不失時機的又火上澆油,說還好Rach沒把雜志也給弄亂了,否則眼珠子都會被Monica挖出來(scratch your eyes right out)?!
6.Chandler: Someone's left a glass on the coffee table. There's no coaster. It's a cold drink, it's a hot day.Little beads of condensation are inching their way closer and closer to the surface of the wood... (A disk, plate, or small mat placed under a bottle, pitcher, or drinking glass to protect a table top or other surface beneath)。
7.Rachel: Ooh, do I sense a little bit of resentment?Chandler: No, no resentment, believe me, it's worth it.'Kay? Y'know in a relationship you have these key moments that you know you'll remember for the rest of your life? Well, every-single-second is like that with Aurora..and I've just wasted about thirty-five of them talking to you people, so, uh..Monica, can you help me with the door?(He has armloads of stuff.)“sense a little bit of resentment”這個用法比較地道,“我怎么感覺到了一點兒怨恨的味道?”,Chandler馬上反駁說沒有,他接下來的一段話可以轉換形式記下來,“In a relationship,we have some key moments that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.”
8.Director: I think his butt would like to get this shot before lunch.Once again, rolling...water working...and action....and cut. What was that? shot子彈、炮彈、開槍、射擊,這里則是機會的意思。可憐的Joey,雖然只是出演butt,對于他來說居然也是個shot,希望他別blow it.9.Chandler: I know there'll be many moments in the years to come when I'll regret asking the following question, but-And Andrew is? 10.Chandler:...Well, y'know, part of me wants that, but it's like I'm two guys, y'know? I mean, one guy's going 'Shut up!This is great!' But there's this other guy.Actually it's the same guy that wells up every time that Grinch's heart grows three sizes and breaks that measuring device...And he's saying, y'know, 'This is too hard!Get out!Get out!' Well up涌出、涌現、涌起。 11.Rachel: Really? Just casually strewn about in that reckless haphazard manner? Strewn about中,strewn是strew的過去式,about相當于around。
-------
1.that would work The word ”work“ acts as an intransitive verb here, usually used in the oral language with the similar meaning to ”effect, take effect“.
3.back me up here=support me。 【107】The One With the Blackout antique’s NO.7 The One With the Blackout
1.Rachel: Wow, this is so cool, you guys.The entire city is blacked out!“black out”停電、熄燈、停止和中斷的意思,這一集一開始,整個紐約市都斷電了,還真是酷耶。關于black還有一些詞組需要掌握,black and white:白紙黑字,類似的還有混淆是非(call/make black white);bule and white青一塊紫一塊;black book/list 黑名單等等。
2.Monica:(into phone)Pants and a sweater? Why, mom? Who am I gonna meet in a blackout? Power company guys? Eligible looters? Could we talk about this later? Are you eligible to wirte the book about Friends?
3.Monica: OK, I'll go.OK, senior year of college...on a pool table.常常在英語角碰到人介紹自己時候說是Grade one or two之類的,其實大學幾年級有更地道的說法,freshman->一年級,sophomore->二年級,junior->三年級,senior->大四,研究生是postgraduate,博士生是phd,還有人往往介紹自己直博了,個人認為如下說法比較合適:be nominated to be a phd candidate directly,在有些學校介紹碩博連讀的網頁上,還有如下表述direct-promotion program for PHD diploma.. .4.Ross: Probably. But you know, I'll tell you something.Passion is way overrated. He's been known to fly into a passion without warning.
5.Ross: I'm taking my time, alright? I'm laying the groundwork.Yeah.I mean, every day I get just a little bit closer to...Joey: Priesthood!Look Ross, I'm telling you, she has no idea what you're thinking. If you don't ask her out soon you're going to end up stuck in the zone forever.take time 意思是從容進行,當Joey好心好意勸他抓緊時間行動時候,他一開始是否認,接著就給自己借口說自己是在打基礎(lay the groundwork),說自己是每天都在越來越接近Rachel, Joey看得如此明白,不等他話說完,就說他不是變得越來越接近Rachel,而是越來越像個神父(Priesthood),stuck是stick的過去式,同主題曲中的stuck in the second gear意思相同,停留在、卡在的意思,Joey說如果你不趕快行動,你們就將永遠停留在朋友的區間了。
6.Phoebe:(smiling)You betcha!Betcha=bet you=you bet,當然、真的、的確的意思??
7.Jill: My God, you're choking!(she runs over and gives him the Heimlich, the gum flies from his mouth)That better?
8.Rachel: God, the first time he smiled at me...those three seconds were more exciting than three weeks in Bermuda with Barry.
9.Ross: That's funny, because you know, you are a huge crapweasel!
10.Ross: OK, guys, guys? I have the definitive one.M
New Years Day:新年,元旦,1月1日;St.Valentine's Day:圣瓦倫丁節(情人節)2月14日;All Fools's Day or April Fools's Day:愚人節4月1日;Good Friday:耶穌受難日(復活節前的星期五);Easter:復活節(春分月圓后第一個星期日,4月);Easter Monday復活節后的星期一;Holy Thursday:耶穌升天節(復活節后的40天的星期四);May Day or Labour Day:五一勞動節;the Spring Bank Holiday:春假(英國5月最后一個星期一);Mother's Day:母親節(5月第二個星期日);Memorial Day:陣亡將士紀念日(美國,5月26日);Independence Day:美國獨立紀念日(7月4日);the Summer Bank Holiday:夏季公假(英國,8月最后一個星期一);Columbus Day:哥倫布日(10月12日);Halloween:萬圣節前夕(10月31日);Hallowmas:萬圣節(11月1日);Armistice day or Veterans Day:第一,二次世界大戰的停戰紀念日(11月11日);Thanksgiving Day:感恩節(在美國是11月的第二個星期一);Christmas Eve:圣誕節前夜(12月24日);Christmas Day:圣誕節(12月25日);Boxing Day:節禮日(圣誕節次日,如遇星期日,推遲一天)。
2.Ross: Will you make the mashed potatoes with the lumps?
3.Monica: And I assume, Chandler, you are still boycotting all the pilgrim holidays.
4.Ross: Look, if she's talking to it, I just think that I should get some belly time too.Not that I believe any of this.“belly time”,翻譯成腹部時間么? 癗ot that I believe any of this”,這是一個強調句型,相當于I don’t belive any of this,Ross一方面不想讓Susan一個人獨享同胎兒親近的機會,另一方面又非著重強調他是個PHD的身份,不相信這一套。 M:I hear the hocky game was packed.W:Not an empty seat in the house!Just standing room only.
5.Chandler: I'd just like to say that I'm totally behind this experiment. In fact, I'd very much like to butter your head.這里總結一下,表示支持、贊同有哪些表達方法,Chandler用了一個be behind sb/sth,其他的還有:agree with, go along with, back up,on the side of,support等等,當然了還有一個最簡單地表達法:be with sb,以及Friedns主題曲中的I’ll be there for you.“'d very much like to butter your head”中,very much又提前了,不同于我們常說的Thank you very much,這里還是表示強調。
6.Monica: We all chipped in.chip in除了插嘴的意思之外,還有湊錢、捐款、贊助的意思。比如:I'm very sorry that I can only afford to chip in a few dollars this time. The businessman donated a lot of money to the hospital.
7.Monica:(hands Chandler a bag)Chandler, here you go, got your traditional Thanksgiving feast, you got your tomato soup, your grilled cheese fixin's, and your family size bag of Funyuns.Rachel: Wait, wait, Chandler, this is what you're havin' for Thanksgiving dinner? What, what, what is it with you and this holiday? 這其中故事大家都很熟悉了,只有Rachel不清楚,所以她不解地問:你和這節日怎么回事呀?(what is it with you and this holiday),這句話應該熟記,以后有什么覺得好奇的時候,就不用生硬的去問what’s wrong 或者what’s the matter了。
8.Chandler: Yes.It's very difficult to appreciate a Thanksgiving dinner once you've seen it in reverse.
9.Monica: Ok, three kinds of potatoes coming up.
10.Monica: Ok, right about now the turkey should be crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Why are we standing here? 11.Joey: Hey, I got one keyhole and about a zillion keys. You do the math.
12.Chandler: I'd like to propose a toast.Little toast here, ding ding.I know this isn't the kind of Thanksgiving that all of you all planned, but for me, this has been really great, you know, I think because it didn't involve divorce or projectile vomiting.Anyway, I was just thinking, I mean, if you'd gone to Vail, and if you guys'd been with your family, if you didn't have syphilis and stuff, we wouldn't be all together, you know? So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm very thankful that all of your Thanksgivings sucked. Propose a toase,祝酒。
13.[Scene: The Subway, Joey sees his poster and he peels off the caption on his poster, revealing more posters underneath. The captions read, as follows: Bladder Control Problem Stop Wife Beating Hemorrhoids? Winner of 3 Tony Awards...

1.Phoebe: Yes, and her boyfriend. But we're celebrating Thanksgiving in December 'cause he is lunar.lunar Thanksgiving.2.Ross:(picking up a book)Hey, hey, Yertle the Turtle.
3.Joey: Ooh, you smell great tonight. What're you wearing? Girl:(provocatively)Nothing.
4.Joey: Set another place for Thanksgiving. My entire family thinks I have VD.Chandler: Tonight, on a very special Blossom.VD是花柳病,所以Chan說今晚鮮花怒放!
5.Ross: Ok, ok, here we go.(he crouches down near her stomach)Ok, where am I talking to, here? I mean, uh, well, there is one way that seems to offer a certain acoustical advantage, but...Ross不知道向哪里開口,居然想到生孩子的地方去了,不過也只有他才能用這么委婉的方式說出來。
6.Joey: Hey, I got one keyhole and about a zillion keys. You do the math. You do the math
7.Rachel: By all means.
Chandler: Tonight, on a very special Blossom.
9.the bigger half(of the bread)心里許個愿,然后如果得到了大半的,愿望就能實現。
10.Bobo the Sperm Guy:man who is used for sexual purposes only.(can also be used to identify an anonymous sperm donor)Bobo the Sperm Guy流傳成為sperm donor的代名詞,應該是有些典故的很可能這個短語就原創于friends,因為bobo 用得經典,所以后來人們就這么戲稱了,不知道這個猜測對不對,呵呵。兒語bobo=sleep bobo的意思有: To give a blowjob to someone;Caveman for ”friend“;
really silly person;fearless african warrior;sexual animal 【110】The One With The Monkey

6.That guy's going home with a note!chandler把Phoebe上面教訓david的話,說成是一個便條(note)。
【111】The One With Mrs.Bing 1.Bona sera = Good evening 2.Chandler: Y'know, of all my friends, no-one knows the crap I go through with my mom more than you.chan說:“我所有的朋友里,你知道我和我媽之間那些爛事最多。”go through,經歷,crap=sh*t 3.trick question, phoe找借口說可能剛才那個問題有歧異,所以才問第二遍
4.see you around

11.And I always figured, when the right one comes along, I'd be able to be a stand-up guy and go the distance...be the stand-up guy
go the distance 類似于go out of one's way to do sth 不辭辛勞地做什么事 Joey雖然表面上看起來很花心,但他對real love &Ms Right 也有著自己的執著,而他爸的外遇行為傷了他的心,不僅是對他媽的不忠,也打擊了他對real love 美好的夢想 joey 說的 a stand-up guy 應該是指一個能站得起來,靠得住的堂堂男子漢,能勇敢面對的人
go the distance 美國傳統詞典 “To carry a course of action through to completion.”
另外Babylon上的解釋如下“fishish the race, complete the course”
例句為“If Mat begins a project, he'll go the distance---he'll complete it.”

1.you'd be starin' at the business end of a hissy fit.
have a hissy fit 意思是因為一些事情(通常是小事)而發彪,生氣(freak out)
【118】The One With All The Poker 1.On Poker The One With All The Poker
(Poker night is a night during which several people gather to play poker. For example: Are you going to come over for my poker night? It's Wednesday and we're starting at 8:00.)
monica說的“No blinds, everybody ante”中,ante和blinds都是下注的方式。
跟不跟是“in or out”,不玩了就說“I fold.”,我跟著你下注,“I am seeing you,I’ll see a bet?!盧aise表示提高賭注,在一個limit game中(賭注有上限), 通常是raise the bet to the limit.Call是與對方的注持平(match a bet)如:“I’m calling you.”
一手牌(hand)比大小時,four of kind>full house>flush>straight。
play for high stakes ——to risk a lot of money in a game
bluff —— to pretend you have better cards than you really do in a game of poker
2.Rachel: Settle what? Chandler: The...Jamestown colony of Virginia. You see, King George is giving us the land, so...Jamestown —— a town, established in 1607, in the U.S.state of Virginia which was the first town built by English people who went to live in North America
3.Monica: Yeah, I know.He can get really competitive.Phoebe: Ha.Ha, ha.Monica: What? Phoebe: Oh, hello, kettle? This is Monica. You're black.)
A:There's an old saying: “It's like the pot calling the kettle black.” It was coined when most pots and pans were made of iron and, therefore, were, black. It means that you're accusing someone of something that really is reflective of you--much like “It takes one to know one.” Does that help?--From leeni 詳解:古語有云,“It's like the pot calling the kettle black.” 意思是,你在嘲諷別人時,其實自己也一樣,就好像說,“It takes one to know one”,彼此彼此。
4.It's gotta be like chips, or dip, or pretz..
5.little playthings with yarn? 接ROSS的who makes me..

7.Dee, the sarcastic sister from Whats Happening ROSS明知道CHAN在說RACH,還裝傻問是誰(Who?),CHAN就說,是Dee,“Whats Happening ”里面哪個犀利的小妹妹。

clunky high-heel shoes.

【121】The One With The Fake Monica 1.popes into a volkswagen
Joey: How do you get a monkey into a zoo? Chandler: I know that one!...No, that's Popes into a Volkswagen.
Actually, yesterday I asked one of my western friends about your question.According to him, there's no such a punchline in western countries.Apparently, it's just another improvised joke from Chandler. You know how contextual, cynical and dry his jokes could be.And by the way, my friend also told me some funny fact that in their culture, there is often a joke about “How can you get a ____ inot a volkswagen....” So, if you really want to mention the original meaning, I think probably this is the original shape of Chandler's joke.2.Holden McGroin 實際上就是那意思,holding my groin的諧音,外國人造了許多假名字,有的搞笑,有的dirty..3.'and, my, dead, moher, says, you, are, it' 'it'在這里指代'(the)partner' 4.flame boy, pheo給joey的名字,這個名字給人gay的感覺,下面這個小家伙也叫flameboy
5.my Curious George doll is no longer curious
Curious George is a children's book written by Margret and Hans Rey.

A ticker-tape parade is a parade event, held in a downtown urban setting, allowing the jettison of large amounts of shredded paper products from nearby buildings onto the parade route, creating a triumphal effect by the snowstorm like flurry. The term originated in New York City and is still most closely associated with it.The term ticker-tape refered originally to the use of the paper output of ticker tape machines, which were remotely-driven devices used in brokerages to provide updated Stock Market quotes.Nowadays, the paper product are largely waste office paper that has been cut using conventional shredders. In New York City, ticker-tape parades are not annual events but are reserved for special occassions. The first such parade was in October 1886 and was a spontaneous event following the dedication of the Statue of Liberty.Soon afterwards, city officials realized the utility of such events and began to hold them on triumphal occassions, at first only for extraordinary events, such as the return of Theodore Roosevelt from his safari in Africa.Up through the 1950s, the were commonly given to any visiting head of state, but the 1960s, following the assassination of John F.Kennedy, they became increasingly rare are generally reserved now for space exploration triumphs, military honors and sports championships. The section of lower Broadway through the Financial District that serves as the parade route for these events is colloquially called the Canyon of Heros.2.hammerhead 笨蛋
