1899年亨利福特離開愛迪生照明公司加入底特律汽車公司,但此公司1900年即倒閉。1901年亨利福特與Childe H.Wills合資成立亨利福特公司,但與其他投資人不合沒多久即離開,該公司在亨利?李蘭入股后改名為凱迪拉克(Cadillac)汽車公司。后來亨利福特制造的賽車在1902年獲勝并創(chuàng)下美國新紀錄,1903年6月16日一位煤碳商馬康森和其會計高任思因此與亨利福特合資成立今日的福特汽車。福特向道奇兄弟購買汽車底盤搭配自己的雙氣缸水平對臥引擎,開始福特汽車的生產。福特用來自十二位投資者的28000美金在一個原先制造馬車的工廠里開始了他的事業(yè)。當時汽車的生產方式是以兩到三個工人為一組,從零件制造到銷售訂單都是由一組工人負責到底。因此最開始的日子里,福特公司生產效率比較低下,每天只能生產幾部車。1906年,創(chuàng)辦人之一的馬康森售出股份予福特,退出經營。
1908年,福特汽車公司開始發(fā)行福特T型車。最早的一批T型車都是在皮科特制造車間完成裝配,后來公司將生產部分移動到空間更大的高地公園(Highland Park)的車間來滿足市場對于T型車源源不斷的需求。在1913年公司已經發(fā)展出一套較完整的裝配線和大規(guī)模生產技術。福特汽車主管將原先的裝配線發(fā)展成為了由機械傳送帶來運輸零件讓工人進行組裝。這個創(chuàng)新將原先裝配底盤所需的12個小時30分鐘的時間減少到2個小時40分鐘。值得注意的是,福特汽車只是將裝配線生產模式引進到汽車生產業(yè),而非發(fā)明者。實際上裝配線生產法可能最先出現(xiàn)在秦始皇大量制造兵馬俑時期,16世紀初期威尼斯也有廠商使用裝配線快速造船,1801年英國有零件供應商使用裝配線生產英國海軍所需的零件。在美國第一個使用裝配線進行生產作業(yè)是Oldsmobile汽車創(chuàng)辦人蘭塞姆·奧茨(Ransom Olds),他也將裝配線生產的方法登記專利,之后福特汽車另外獨立發(fā)展裝配線生產方法。
福特生產流水線(1913)機械傳送帶在當時并沒有立刻取得成效,而且工人的失誤率相當高,然而失誤就意味著更多的生產延誤以及更多對工人進行培訓所需的額外支出,還有就是要使用干活較慢的工人。在1914年1月,通過將工資加倍(從2.5美金/小時到5美金/小時),縮短工作時間(每天工作8小時),并設立專門負責雇傭工人的人員后,困擾公司多年的生產效率低下的問題就迎刃而解了。員工失誤率大幅下降,公司生產力也隨之騰飛。隨著制造車子的速度越來越快,每輛車的售價也開始快速下跌。福特不斷地對他的汽車產品進行降價,由原先850美金一輛車的價錢降至360美金[1]。并首先發(fā)明了授權經銷商的概念與體系,讓那些經銷商來為他大量銷售這些便宜的汽車。
1916年福特汽車獲利極高,公司手中保留盈余高達一億一千兩百萬美元。福特決定花錢在擴大產量上,卻引起持股百分之十的主要股東道奇兄弟不滿,道奇兄弟認為企業(yè)盈余應先分配給股東,當時持股達八成的亨利福特反對,道奇兄弟因此告上法院。1919年密歇根州最高法院判決道奇兄弟勝訴,判決指出企業(yè)設立的目的在為股東謀利,企業(yè)董事也不可改變這項基本目的。此判決日后成為企業(yè)是否要負社會責任等其他目的之爭論焦點。
截至1913年底,全美國有50%的汽車都是福特公司生產的。然而至1918年底,全美國的汽車有一半都是T型車。當時絕大部分T型車的顏色都是清一色的黑色,基本沒
有什么其他顏色可供選擇。據傳亨利·福特有一句名言:“顧客可以選擇他想要的任何一種顏色,只要它是黑色。”意思就是顧客只能夠購買黑色的T型車。亨利·福特并不是對黑色有什么特殊癖好,其堅持黑色的真正原因在于黑色油漆干燥得快,可以使汽車在落地后第一時間能夠被賣出去。這也算是亨利·福特追求生產效率的極端表現(xiàn)之一。
1919年,時任總經理的另一創(chuàng)辦人高任思退出福特汽車。同年,亨利福特的獨子埃茲爾·福特(Edsel Ford)繼承他父親公司總裁的職位,但是亨利·福特仍然可干涉公司的管理且始終具有其影響力。雖然高效率的生產使公司產品的價格一直較低,但由于公司內部不與時俱進的家長式管理以及對高端消費者市場的忽略,福特公司在美國開始逐漸失去汽車市場份額。通用汽車、克萊斯勒以及其他小型的競爭企業(yè)開始為消費者提供與T型車相比擁有更多豪華設備的汽車。比如說通用在當時就有各種價位的車型,將高低端市場一網打盡;另一方面,經濟拮據的人也不再會直接從福特公司購買T型車,而是轉而購買二十多甚至十多美金就能買到的二手的T型車。與此同時,這些競爭者又通過實行分期付款的形式使消費者能夠在每個月只交一筆錢的情況下能買到原先支付不起的昂貴車輛。福特強烈反對這種消費方式,他認為這種消費最終將使國家經濟以及消費者陷入窘局。但福特最終還是做了讓步,并在風靡一時的T型車生產至第一千五百萬部時宣布停產該車型,轉而生產全新的車型A型車(Model A)。
1925年,福特公司收購了林肯汽車公司(Lincoln Motor Company),從而開始打入高檔車市場。1935年,水星汽車(Mercury)在埃茲爾·福特提議下成立,主要生產中價位的的汽車。[2]
亨利·福特的孫子亨利·福特二世(Henry Ford II)在1945年至1960年期間擔任福特汽車公司總裁,且在1960年至1980年期間擔任公司董事長暨執(zhí)行長。雖然福特公司于1956年上市成為美國股票上市企業(yè),福特家族仍通過占據大量B級優(yōu)先股保持其在公司40%左右的控制權益,這在股票公開上市企業(yè)中是相當大的比率。
福特汽車工程副總裁麥佛遜先生發(fā)明的麥佛遜(香港、臺灣譯為“麥花臣”)支柱底盤懸吊系統(tǒng)(MacPherson Strut)是今日汽車界最廣為使用的底盤懸吊系統(tǒng)。
1998年,福特汽車創(chuàng)下一年獲利超過兩百二十億美元的世界紀錄。此紀錄2004年才因油價大漲而被艾克森美孚(Exxon Mobil)石油公司以兩百五十三億美元凈利所超越。
1999年全球133名汽車業(yè)記者評選出福特T型車作為20世紀的世紀代表車(Car of The Century)。

20th centuryHenry Ford's first attempt at a car company under his own name was the Henry Ford Company on November 3, 1901, which became the Cadillac Motor Company on August 22, 1902 after Ford left with the rights to his name.The Ford Motor Company was launched in a converted factory in 1903 with $28,000 in cash from twelve investors, most notably John and Horace Dodge(who would later found their own car company).During its early years, the company produced just a few cars a day at its factory on Mack Avenue in Detroit, Michigan.Groups of two or three men worked on each car, assembling it from parts made mostly by supplier companies contracting for Ford.Within a decade the company would lead the world in the expansion and refinement of the assembly line concept;and Ford soon brought much of the part production in-house in a vertical integration that seemed a better path for the era.Henry Ford was 40 years old when he founded the Ford Motor Company, which would go on to become one of the world's largest and most profitable companies, as well as being one to survive the Great Depression.As one of the largest family-controlled companies in the world, the Ford Motor Company has been in continuous family control for over 100 years.In 1908 Ford introduced the first engine with a removable cylinder head, in the Model T.In 1930, Ford introduced the Model A, the first car with safety glass in the windshield.[8] Ford launched the first low priced V8 engine powered car in 1932.Ford offered the Lifeguard safety package from 1956, which included such innovations as a standard deep-dish steering wheel, optional front, and, for the first time in a car, rear seatbelts, and an optional padded dash.[9] Ford introduced child-proof door locks into its products in 1957, and in the same year offered the first retractable hardtop on a mass-produced six-seater car.The Ford Mustang was introduced in 1964.In 1965 Ford introduced the seat belt reminder light.With the 1980s, Ford introduced several highly successful vehicles around the world.In 1990 and 1994 respectively, Ford also acquired Jaguar Cars and Aston Martin.[10] During the mid-to late 1990s, Ford continued to sell large numbers of vehicles, in a booming American economy with a soaring stock market and low fuel prices.With the dawn of the new century, legacy healthcare costs, higher fuel prices, and a faltering economy led to falling market shares, declining sales, and diminished profit margins.Most of the corporate profits came from financing consumer automobile loans through Ford Motor Credit Company.[11]

William Clay Ford, Jr., great-grandson of Henry Ford, serves as the executive chairman at the board of Ford Motor Company.By 2005, both Ford and GM's corporate bonds had been downgraded to junk status,[12] as a result of high U.S.health care costs for an aging workforce, soaring gasoline prices, eroding market share, and an over dependence on declining SUV sales.Profit margins decreased on large vehicles due to increased “incentives”(in the form of rebates or low interest financing)to offset declining demand.[13] In the latter half of 2005, Chairman Bill Ford asked newly appointed Ford Americas Division President Mark Fields to develop a plan to return the company to profitability.Fields previewed the Plan, named The Way Forward, at the December 7, 2005 board meeting of the company and it was unveiled to the public on January 23, 2006.“The Way Forward” included resizing the company to match market realities, dropping some unprofitable and inefficient models, consolidating production lines, closing 14 factories and cutting 30,000 jobs.[14]
Ford moved to introduce a range of new vehicles, including “Crossover SUVs” built on unibody car platforms, rather than more body-on-frame chassis.In developing the hybrid electric powertrain technologies for the Ford Escape Hybrid SUV, Ford licensed similar Toyota hybrid technologies[15] to avoid patent infringements.[16] Ford announced that it will team up with electricity supply company Southern California Edison(SCE)to examine the future of plug-in hybrids in terms of how home and vehicle energy systems will work with the electrical grid.Under the multi-million-dollar, multi-year project, Ford will convert a demonstration fleet of Ford Escape Hybrids into plug-in hybrids, and SCE will evaluate how the vehicles might interact with the home and the utility's electrical grid.Some of the vehicles will be evaluated “in typical customer settings”, according to Ford.[17][18]
Bill Ford was appointed Executive Chairman in 1998, and also became Chief Executive Officer of the company in 2001, with the departure of Jacques Nasser.Upon the retirement of President and Chief Operation Officer Jim Padilla in April 2006, Bill Ford assumed his roles as well.Five months later, in September, Ford named Alan Mulally as President and CEO, with Ford continuing as Executive Chairman.In December 2006, the company raised its borrowing capacity to about $25 billion, placing substantially all corporate assets as collateral.[19] Chairman Bill Ford has stated that “bankruptcy is not an option”.[20] Ford and the United Auto Workers, representing approximately 46,000 hourly workers in North America, agreed to a historic contract settlement in November 2007 giving the company a substantial break in terms of its ongoing retiree health care costs and other economic issues.The agreement included the establishment of a company-funded, independently run Voluntary Employee Beneficiary Association(VEBA)trust to shift the burden of retiree health care from the company's books, thereby improving its balance sheet.This arrangement took effect on January 1, 2010.As a sign of its currently strong cash position, Ford contributed its entire current liability(estimated at approximately US$5.5 billion as of December 31, 2009)to the VEBA in cash, and also pre-paid US$500 million of its future liabilities to the fund.The agreement also gives hourly workers the job security they were seeking by having the company commit to substantial investments in most of its factories.The automaker reported the largest annual loss in company history in 2006 of $12.7 billion,[21] and estimated that it would not return to profitability until 2009.[22] However, Ford surprised Wall Street in the second quarter of 2007 by posting a $750 million profit.Despite the gains, the company finished the year with a $2.7 billion loss, largely attributed to finance restructuring at Volvo.[23]
On June 2, 2008, Ford sold its Jaguar and Land Rover operations to Tata Motors for $2.3 billion.[24][25]
During November 2008, Ford, together with Chrysler and General Motors, sought government bridge loans at Congressional hearings in Washington, D.C.in the face of conditions caused by the 2008 financial crisis.The three companies presented action plans for the sustainability of the industry.Ford opted not to seek government loans.[26] GM and Chrysler received government loans and financing through T.A.R.P.legislation funding provisions.[27] On December 19, the cost of credit default swaps to insure the debt of Ford was 68 percent the sum insured for five years in addition to annual payments of 5 percent.That meant $6.8 million paid upfront to insure $10 million in debt, in addition to payments of $500,000 per year.[28] In January 2009, Ford reported a $14.6 billion loss in the preceding year, a record for the company.The company retained sufficient liquidity to fund its operations.Through April 2009, Ford's strategy of debt for equity exchanges, erased $9.9 billion in liabilities(28% of its total), in order to leverage its cash position.[29] These actions yielded Ford a $2.7 billion profit in fiscal year 2009, the company's first full-year profit in four years.[30]
In 2012, Ford's corporate bonds were upgraded from junk to investment grade again, citing sustainable, lasting improvements.

1992年被“北京機電設備總公司電工設備研究所”吸收為會員。第一次參加了在南戴河舉辦的“電線電纜新產品新技術信息交流會”。1993年光桿排線器產品被國家專利局批準并授予專利權;頒發(fā)“實用新型專利證書”,企業(yè)進行第二次擴建,建設南廠區(qū),生產能力擴大了五倍。
1995年設立了第一個駐外辦事處(杭州辦事處)。1996年設立了天津辦事處,上海辦事處。1997年設立了無錫辦事處。
