其他對這場演說的公眾反應(yīng)因黨派之見而壁壘分明。芝加哥日報(Chicago Sun-Times)次日報導(dǎo):“這位被有頭腦的外國人指為美利堅合眾國總統(tǒng)者,語調(diào)無聊、呆板、又蹩腳。各位美國人若以這種語調(diào)朗讀,必感面紅耳赤。”

國獨立戰(zhàn)爭,并包含“凡人生而平等”等美國獨立宣言中廣為人知的字句。
