近年來非英語專業英語考試中看圖作文出現的頻率很高。看圖作文不僅考查考生對圖形的觀察力和想象力，而且也考查考生的分析、概括能力。它一般要求考生根據給出的一幅或幾幅圖畫提供的圖像信息寫一篇短文，包括敘述一個故事，或通過幾幅相關的圖畫說明某個問題或得出結論。寫這類作文，考生首先在正確理解每一幅圖畫內容的基礎上用準確的英文將圖意描述出來；其次在描寫的基礎上分析各個圖畫間的相互聯系和規律性的東西并加以說明。此外，考生有時還需要進行分析和解釋，以使作文在內容上更加完整、更有說服力。這就要求考生必須熟練地掌握看圖作文的寫作步驟與方法，方能在考試中取得高分。

一、步驟與技巧

1.細心研讀考試指令,搞清楚作文的具體要求。看圖作文通常有必要的提示,這就要求在動筆前一定要通讀提示,弄懂寫作要求,力求做到不丟命題者所提供的任何信息,如時間、地點、人物、事件發生的先后順序等,才能找到寫文章的突破口。

2.仔細觀察、認真研究圖畫,力求達到正確理解。仔細觀察是寫好作文的前提,看圖時還要把握順序性,或由上至下,或由下至上;或由左至右,或由右至左;還可以由外至里或由里及外等。對于多圖作文,要按命題人所給的順序進行觀察,之后展開聯想,正確分析圖意。圖畫是作文的基礎,要仔細觀察分析圖畫的畫面,如人物表情、特征、周圍的環境;然后充分發揮想象力想象事情發生的情景,弄清畫面所反映的真實內涵或蘊含的某種哲理。

3.找出圖中事物之間的內在聯系。如果所給的圖畫是多幅圖畫,就要分析畫與畫之間的內在自然聯系及畫中人物、事物、事情發生的邏輯關系。

4.擴大視野、拓寬寫作思路。如僅給出一幅畫,應設法從有限的畫面空間擴大視野、充分發揮聯想。畫面是沒有文章的文章,要根據畫面情景、人物表情、環境等大膽、豐富地聯想,使生動感人的畫面變成栩栩如生的文字描繪而躍然紙上,使人讀后有身臨其境之感。看圖作文有單純描繪性的、有描繪與人物對話相結合性的。考生首先進行描繪,但如果總是以局外人的身份一味地描繪,沒有內心活動、沒有對話,生動活潑的畫面就會寫得干癟癟的,讀起來索然無味。究竟采取何種形式來寫,要根據畫面內容決定。

5.反復閱讀所給的關鍵詞。關鍵詞是試題設計者根據畫面的內容、范圍定下的基調,考生應仔細閱讀這些關鍵詞,以此為線索從中悟出試題設計者要闡述的中心思想。因此,在構思短文時,切忌把這些關鍵詞丟在一邊而任意發揮。同時考生還應根據關鍵詞(語)構思出短文的內容。

6.詞與畫結合,勾畫出短文的基本輪廓。研究畫面、閱讀關鍵詞之后,要把兩者綜合起來考慮。構思時要注意事情發展到什么情況下正好分別出現那些關鍵詞語,反復理解情景中的內容,事情發展的前因后果,初步勾畫出短文的輪廓。切忌未弄清情景就匆匆動筆。

7.草擬提綱。依據以上步驟草擬出寫作提綱。看圖作文情景復雜,又是畫面又是關鍵詞。為了動筆時不至于顛三倒

四、混亂不清,寫出層次分明、表意清晰、邏輯性強而又連貫性好的短文,應先擬個提綱。這種形式的提綱比帶主題句的命題作文提綱更為重要。考生根據情景的發展和已給出的關鍵詞,綜合考慮先寫什么,后寫什么,哪兒需要在短文中重點寫,哪兒需扼要闡述,分幾段等,這些問題在動筆前都必須通篇考慮,統籌安排。這樣才能順利寫作,迅速完卷。

8.組織材料、豐富短文。提綱擬好之后,利用“涌泉式思維”將同話題有關的信息記錄下來并細化歸納。找出重點,詳略得當,使短文有血有肉,豐富多彩。總之,看圖作文要根據畫面的具體情景和內容而采取不同的形式,大膽地構思,深入細致地描述,這樣才能寫出一篇聲情并貌、層次分明、中心突出、表意清晰準確、內容連貫、邏輯性強,同時又緊扣畫面的文章。

9.抄寫作文。這一步驟看似多余,實際上是必不可少的。以上所寫草稿經修改后可能會有不少或大或小的變動,也可能又有新的內容需要充實進去,語言也需要作進一步的修飾和潤色。為了節省時間,這些任務都是在抄寫過程中完成的。書寫要規范,抄寫好作文后,如果時間允許的話,就要將自己所寫的作文通篇讀一兩遍,檢查一下是否有語句不通順的地方,是否有筆誤以及丟失的信息等。最后呈現在評卷教師面前的應該是一份干干凈凈、整整齊齊,主題突出、語言流暢,用詞恰當的習作。

上述寫作步驟,看似繁雜。實際上,它們都是看圖作文寫作過程中必不可少的,缺乏其中任何一步,都可能造成作文某一部分的缺陷。其實,在實際操作過程中,有些過程是在不知不覺中進行的。平時經常根據這些步驟進行寫作,長此以往下去,不少步驟便可以在頭腦中進行,這時你會覺得省了許多時間。但是這并不意味某些步驟的省略,而是寫作水平提高的標志。

二、范文分析

Directions: Study the pictures and then write the story of A Black Eye or Two.The following words and phrases may help you:

cry bitterly / left eye black and bruised / in a rage / jump out of the armchair / smash one's fist into / knock down to the ground / hit back hard / get a black eye / walk home defeated / look upset and depressed

首先要仔細看圖畫。第一幅圖畫中一大一小兩個人,畫面很簡單。不過再仔細觀察就會發現:大人坐在沙發上,手里拿著報紙;小孩口張得很大,似乎在對大人訴說著什么,他左眼發青,顯然被人打了,眼淚還在往下掉,且用手指著門外。從小孩的神態舉止可以想象門外還有一個看不見的人。圖畫使人想到小孩在外面受人欺侮,跑回家向爸爸告狀的情景,非常生動形象。第二幅畫面更簡潔。僅從那位爸爸的表情可知:他沖出門,邊走邊捋胳膊,緊握拳頭,濃眉倒豎,看樣子要為兒子出氣。第三幅畫還是那位爸爸:他垂頭喪氣地一屁股坐在沙發上,頭暈腦漲,右眼與兒子的左眼一樣成了青眼圈。然后,再看看給出的詞語,把這些關鍵詞語與畫面聯系起來。任何人都是由小孩長大成人的,有可能有的人兒時與畫中的小孩有同樣的經歷,因此不難想象:一天下午正當爸爸坐在沙發上看報紙時,兒子 rushed into the room , cried bitterly, his left eye black and bruised。看到兒子這幅模樣,爸爸一定會問他“What's the matter? Who hit you in the eye, Tom?” 兒子邊哭邊訴說是怎么回事,用手指著門外,并且哭得更傷心了。聽了兒子的訴說,我們可以想象,那位爸爸一定會in a rage,jumped out of the armchair and dashed out,要為兒子出這口惡氣。于是他邊跑邊捋胳膊,緊握拳頭,去教訓那個打兒子的人。從小兒子手指門外的那個神態和smash one's fist into 這一短語,我們可以斷言必定還有畫面上未出現的另一個人物。根據邏輯推理,很可能是一個男孩,而且比畫面上的小孩大。從knock down to the ground 可以想象得出,爸爸沖出門后跑到那個大孩子面前,出其不意地揮拳 knocked him down to the ground。從 look upset and depressed 和第三幅畫面爸爸的神態,我們可以設想:那個男孩子gained his feet quickly and hit back hard,又打在爸爸右眼上,由于出拳重,爸爸的右眼也被打青了,而后那孩子lost no time running away。那么怎么知道爸爸的右眼也被打青了呢?要記住標題 A Black Eye or Two。前面只交待了小兒子被打青了一只眼,如果不是爸爸的一只眼也被打青了,就沒法扣題。再說兒子已經回家了,不可能再被打青另一只眼。所以這就需要聯想到爸爸got a black eye, and had to walk home defeated,回到家he was seated in the armchair, looked quite upset and depressed。圖畫中的人物可由作者取名,雖然畫面上只出現了父子二人,但把父親打青了眼的第三個人,按照情節發展的需要應該出場。同時三幅畫最好分成三段來寫,然后再把所給的關鍵詞同畫面的情景聯系起來進行最后審查,并在大腦中再過濾一遍故事發生的情景,哪個情節該重點描述,什么地方該簡略地寫。另外,在描繪之前要先交代故事發生時的背景:

“What's the matter? Who hit you in the eye, Tom?” the father asked.“We were playing games on the Quail Street..., Steve, a big boy,he...” the son cried more bitterly, pointing outside with his finger.但是如果這一段這樣描述: Seeing his little son, the father asked the boy what had happened to him and who hit him in the left eye.Tom, his little son, replied that it was Steve, the big boy, on the Quail Street, who hit him in the eye, crying all the more bitterly and pointing outside with his finger.很顯然,這樣作為局外人站在一邊平鋪直敘地描寫,就沒有前面的那段話顯得生動、形象。如果這樣寫的話那小孩的神態,以及畫中的情景就難以活靈活現地反映出來。作者把自己擺進去,那小孩就像自己的縮影一樣。對話與描述穿插進行,使讀者有身臨其境之感,寫出的文章才逼真、動人。第二段要以關鍵詞為線索充分發揮聯想:In a rage, Peter jumped out of the armchair and dashed out, clenching his fists.Hardly had Steve uttered a word when Peter smashed his fist into his face.Totally unprepared, Steve was knocked down to the ground.However, he regained his feet quickly and hit back so hard that Peter got a black eye too.Seeing he had had his revenge, Steve lost no time running away.這一段就不能用對話,因為Peter一個人無法對話。第三段要簡略一些,父親吃了虧以后:Peter had to walk home completely defeated.Back in the room,he was seated in the armchair, looking quite upset and depressed.然后再仔細檢查一遍,是否有被疏忽之處,各段是否詳略得當,有無語言錯誤,如果這一切都沒有問題,然后就可以定稿了。
