近期高校密集開學，開學典禮上，各校校長免不了對新生提出要求和期望。復旦大學校長楊玉良在談及“為什么要上大學”時，引用復旦老校長李登輝在上世紀20年代說過的一句話告誡新生：如果你是為了升官發財來到復旦學習，那么你在學校會受到鄙視。

一般語境下，“升官發財”似是一個貶義詞組，與“貪圖富貴”同義，為很多人口頭上所不齒。在中國傳統文化中，讀書人首先要“誠意、正心、修身”，做一個道德君子，此乃立身之本；現代大學教育也講求精神、氣質、品格，升官發財太世俗，似與大學精神格格不入。無論是復旦老校長說那句話，還是現任復旦校長重復這句話，大概就是基于這樣的觀念。

但是，倘若不說升官發財，而是說做官員或做公仆、做企業家或做生意，大概就顯得光鮮亮麗而無貶義了。其實兩者本質上是一回事，只是換了一種說法，因此，升官發財本不該是貶義詞組，而應是中性詞組。在中國傳統文化中，讀書人“誠意、正心、修身”之后，應該做的就是“學而優則仕”，通過做官、做大官來“治國、平天下”；現代教育優于古代教育之處，在于做官并非讀書人的唯一目標，職業選擇、生活方式多元化，人們上大學的目的五花八門，但做官仍是目標之一。事實上，如果說古代科舉是選拔官員的途徑，那么，現代大學教育則承擔著培養未來官員的重任，不該鄙視學生為做官、升官而讀書。

做官，一種職業選擇罷了，任何職業都在獲取自身利益的同時為社會作貢獻，何況從“應然”角度說，做官也可以造福于民。大學畢業生選擇從政，乃至從一開始就沖著做官讀大學，實在沒什么可丟人的。做官如此，發財亦然。現在高校鼓勵大學畢業生自主創業，說不定將來會涌現出一批企業家。企業家自己發財，同時為政府貢獻稅收，為社會提供工作崗位，這是榮耀之事。高校一方面鼓勵畢業生創業，一方面鄙視學生為發財而讀書，有些自相矛盾。在這個開放多元的社會，升官發財盡管為一些人口頭上所不齒，但事實上是很多人努力奮斗的目標，連一些高校也以培養了多少高官、富豪為榮。這本來沒什么問題，問題在于，有些人為了升官發財不擇手段，罔顧法律和規則；有些人升官之后貪腐墮落、為所欲為；有些人發財之后為富不仁、橫行霸道。在某種意義上，正是這些人敗壞了“升官發財”的聲譽。

原因當然是多方面，如果從教育上找原因，那么我認為，恰恰因為學校的思想道德教育過于假、大、空，脫離社會實際和學生所思所想，從而出現道德虛無化、精神荒漠化。與其希冀將學生打造成道德君子，不如放下身段，將教育的目標確定為培養遵守法律和規則、具有法治精神和規則意識的合格公民，在此基礎上讓道德因子自然生長。

拿升官發財來說，學校大可不必教育學生鄙視升官發財——這樣的說教本身就很虛偽，不會有多少學生相信——而是要教育學生通過合法、正當的途徑升官發財；升官之后要有更大作為，要廉潔自律、服務于民；發財之后更要遵紀守法，不要橫行霸道，要履行作為富人的社會責任，不要為富不仁。我想，這樣的教育更能為學生所接受，對學生、對社會更具有實際意義。

這件事情在我看來大學生和農民工是沒有可比性的，因為前者是做腦力勞動的，后者是做體力勞動的。我們不能用工資的高低來判斷一個人的價值，這是不公平的。對于大學生來說開始工作的工資確實不高，需要積累一定的經驗。
