Habits, whether good or bad, are gradually formed.The more we do things, the more we tend to like doing it;and if we do not continue to do it, we feel uncomfortable.This is called the force of habits, and the force of habits should be fought against.This applies even to such good things as work or rest.Some people form a bad habit of working too much, and others of idling too much.Bad habits, once formed, are difficult to get rid of.The wise man always remembers to check any bad habit.He warns himself “I am now becoming idle” or “I like too many sweets” or “I smoke too much”.And then adds, “I will get myself out of this bad habit at once.”

Many people say that they owe much of it to the cultivation of certain good habits in early life.In forming good habits, I think we should pay attention to four things, that is honesty, industry, enthusiasm and thrift.“Honesty is the best policy.” This is a proverb to which we must pay attention.There are so many temptations in society that through a little carelessness we may go astray.But when we are honesty, people will not be dishonest to us.Industry gives every man and woman, every boy and girl, proper work to do.To do nothing is going to ruin oneself.Enthusiasm is a great force.One?s soul will expand if one devotes oneself to a noble cause.The difficulties in our way are tremendous, but what can we not accomplish, if with enthusiasm?

There are many proverbs which set forth the advantages of thrift.Since we live in the world in which money is a very powerful thing, we should always try to save a portion of our earnings for future use.These are the four things to which we must pay attention.It is only by this way that we can achieve success.(12)Language skills

Language skills will develop with use of various dictionaries.The more you use them, the more familiar you will become with them.Sooner or later, you will be quite skilled in finding the page, scanning the entries and locating the exact meaning of the new words.But you should have one ting in mind.As a language student, you can never become too much attached to dictionaries;basic language skills do not come from dictionaries, but from your practice.Expose yourself to the language by listening, speaking, reading and writing more, and that is the only way to the mastery of a language.(13)TV—a Blessing or curse?

As TV enters into more and more families, people begin to wonder about its advantages and disadvantages.Some believes it is a blessing while others hold that it is a curse to society.TV, as a mass media, can bring to people new information on economies , culture, arts, and many other fields.People can enjoy their favorite programs at home.In some countries, some TV stations provide such programs as looking for dangerous criminals and lost children, helping to find an ideal lover, and others which are quite beneficial to society, some TV stations provide various useful seminars for people of variousages and social status.But on the other hand, TV may exert bad influence on people.Some programs are full of violence.As a result, people , especially juveniles, are led to commit crimes.An increasing number of people are so indulged in TV programs that some even neglect their duties.In my opinion, the attitude toward TV all depends on oneself.People should choose those programs which are useful and can bring to them the sense of beauty.(14)On Test and Test Taking

The purpose of a test is to check how much we students have learned about a subject.It not only helps make our newly acquired knowledge permanent, but also enables us to find out what needs to spend more time improving.But some students do not deal with test correctly.Some of them are afraid of failing in a test.They cheat even at the risk of being caught on exams.Though cheating might give one “better grades”, it adds nothing to one?s knowledge.This dishonest behavior will do one more harm than good.I think that we go to college in order to have our further studies, and prepare us to be qualified for the future job.Therefore, we should take a correct attitude towards test.As long as we study diligently and review our lessons regularly, we are sure to be used to serve its real purpose.(15)The Dictionary

Where do you like to live, in the city or in the country? The sixth of August was my mother's birthday.My father and I wanted to give her surprising birthday presents.On their mothers' birthday，I know some of my classmates are going to help their mothers with housework；others are going to the shop and buy some flowers for their mothers.In the morning，my father and I went shopping and bought a very nice cake.Then we went to the market and bought some food.When we got home，my father cooked some nice food in the kitchen.I went to my room to make a birthday card.I wanted to say to my mother that I loved her very much.Then I wrote in the card，“I love you，my dear mother！”I put it on her pillow，then we cleaned the room.We felt very tired，but we were very happy.My mother got home.We said，“Happy Birthday！”My mother smiled.We had our supper together.My mother said，“Thank you，my daughter！”

The Value Of Time

I always think there is not enough time.For example，I have just taken a three-day holiday.But when I look back，I just feel that it?s only one day.There goes a proverb，“Time is money”。Now I want to say，time is more precious than money，because when money is spent，we can earn some more again.However，when time is gone or lost，never will it return.Time goes without being noticed.The time for our study and work is usually limited.So I think we must make full use of our time.But it?s a pity that I am always not aware of the importance of time until it?s too late.So I think，I should get into the good habit of saving time because wasting time is equal to wasting one?s life.Do not put off what can be done today till tomorrow！

Environment

Environmental problems are as big as not for individual country or individual people to address.In other word，we have reached the stage that environmental problems be solved for international view.To what extent do you agree or disagree？

In recent years，many nations have become more aware of the environmental issues each nation faces，such as air and water pollution.The question is，are the environmental issues a national problem or an international problem？It is my belief that the environmental issues have grown to the point of becoming an international problem needing international cooperation to resolve.Because of the differences in environmental policies，resources and technology，international cooperation could provide quicker results and have a greater impact on bringing resolution to environmental problems for nations of differing environmental policies and of lesser resources and technology.By pooling international resources and technology to address the environmental problems，the disadvantaged nations are provided the assistance needed.Otherwise their environmental conditions deteriorate ultimately affecting the resources and environment of the world as a whole.Self introduction

從前，鄭武公在申國娶了一個妻子，名叫武姜，她生下莊公和共叔段。莊公出生時難產，武姜受到驚嚇，因此給他取名叫“寤生”，所以很厭惡他。武姜偏愛共叔段，想立共叔段為世子，多次向武公請求，武公都不答應。

到莊公即位的時候，武姜就替共叔段請求分封到制邑去。莊公說：“制邑是個險要的地方，從前虢叔就死在那里，若是封給其它城邑，我都可以照吩咐辦。”武姜便請求封給太叔京邑，莊公答應了，讓他住在那里，稱他為京城太叔。

大夫祭仲說：“分封的都城如果城墻超過三百方丈長，會成為國家的禍害。先王的制度規定，國內最大的城邑不能超過國都的三分之一，中等的不得超過它的五分之一，小的不能超過它的九分之一。現在，京邑的城墻不合法度，不符合法制，您的利益會受到損害。”莊公說：“姜氏想要這樣，我如何躲開這種禍害呢？”祭仲回答說：“姜氏哪有滿足的時候！不如及早處置，別讓禍根滋長蔓延，一滋長蔓延就難辦了。蔓延開來的野草還很難鏟除干凈，何況是您那受到寵愛的弟弟呢？”莊公說：“多做不義的事情，必定會自己垮臺，你姑且等待。”

2.《齊桓公伐楚》

齊桓公與夫人蔡姬在園林中乘舟游玩，蔡姬故意晃動小船，桓公嚇得臉色都變了，他阻止蔡姬，蔡姬卻不聽。桓公一怒之下讓她回到了蔡國，但沒有說與她斷絕夫妻關系，蔡姬的哥哥蔡穆侯卻讓她改嫁了。

魯僖公四年的春天，齊桓公率領諸侯國的軍隊攻打蔡國。蔡國潰敗，接著又去攻打楚國。

楚成王派使節到齊軍對齊桓公說：“您住在北方，我住在南方，因此牛馬發情相逐也到不了雙方的疆土。沒想到您進入了我們的 國土這是什么緣故？”管仲回答說：“從前召康公命令我們先君大公說：‘五等諸侯和九州長官，你都有權征討他們，從而共同輔佐周王室。’召康公還給了我們先君征討的范圍：東到海邊，西到黃河，南到穆陵，北到無隸。你們應當進貢的包茅沒有交納，周王室的祭祀供不上，沒有用來滲濾酒渣的東西，我特來征收貢物； 周昭王南巡沒有返回，我特來查問這件事。”楚國使臣回答說： “貢品沒有交納，是我們國君的過錯，我們怎么敢不供給呢？周昭王南巡沒有返回，還是請您到水邊去問一問吧！”于是齊軍繼續前進，臨時駐扎在陘。

這年夏天，楚成王派使臣屈完到齊軍中去交涉，齊軍后撤，臨時駐扎在召陵。

齊桓公讓諸侯國的軍隊擺開陣勢，與屈完同乘一輛戰車觀看軍容。齊桓公說：“諸侯們難道是為我而來嗎？他們不過是為了繼 承我們先君的友好關系罷了。你們也同我們建立友好關系，怎么樣？屈完回答說：“承蒙您惠臨敝國并為我們的國家求福，忍辱接納我們國君，這正是我們國君的

心愿。”齊桓公說：“我率領這些 諸侯軍隊作戰，誰能夠抵擋他們？我讓這些軍隊攻打城池，什么樣的城攻不下？”屈完回答說：‘如果您用仁德來安撫諸侯，哪個敢不順服？如果您用武力的話，那么楚國就把方城山當作城墻，把 漢水當作護城河，您的兵馬雖然眾多，恐怕也沒有用處！”

后來，屈完代表楚國與諸侯國訂立了盟約。

3.《燭之武退秦師》

（僖公三十年）九月十日，晉文公和秦穆公聯合圍攻鄭國，因為鄭國曾對文公無禮，并且從屬于晉的同時又從屬于楚。晉軍駐扎在函陵，秦軍駐扎在氾水的南面。

佚之狐對鄭伯說：“鄭國處于危險之中了！假如讓燭之武去見秦伯，（秦國的）軍隊一定會撤退。”鄭伯聽從了他的意見。燭之武推辭說：“我年輕時，尚且不如別人；現在老了，也不能有什么作為了。”鄭文公說：“我早先沒有重用您，現在危急之中求您，這是我的過錯。然而鄭國滅亡了，對您也不利啊！”燭之武答應了鄭伯。

在夜晚（有人）用繩子（將燭之武）從城上放下去，見到了秦伯，燭之武說：“秦、晉兩國圍攻鄭國，鄭國已經知道要滅亡了。假如滅掉鄭國對您有好處,怎敢拿這件事情來麻煩您。越過鄰國把遠方的鄭國作為（秦國的）東部邊邑，您知道這是困難的，（您）為什么要滅掉鄭國而給鄰國增加土地呢？鄰國的勢力雄厚了，您秦國的勢力也就相對削弱了。如果您放棄圍攻鄭國而把它當做東方道路上接待過客的主人，出使的人來來往往，（鄭國可以隨時）供給他們缺少的東西，對您也沒有什么害處。而且您曾經給予晉惠公恩惠，惠公曾經答應給您焦、瑕兩座城池。（然而）惠公在早上渡過黃河回國，在晚上就修筑防御工事，這是您知道的。晉國，怎么會滿足呢？（現在它）已經在東邊使鄭國成為它的邊境，又想要擴大它西邊的邊界。如果不使秦國土地虧損，將從哪里得到他貪求的土地呢？削弱秦國對晉國有利，希望您考慮這件事！”秦伯心悅誠服，就與鄭國簽訂了盟約。派遣杞子、逢孫、楊孫守衛鄭國，于是秦國就撤軍了。

子犯請求襲擊秦軍。晉文公說：“不行！假如沒有那人（秦伯）的力量，我是不會到這個地步的。依靠別人的力量而又反過來損害他，這是不仁義的；失掉自己的同盟者，這是不明智的；用混亂相攻（的局面）取代聯合一致（的局面），這是不符合武德的。我們還是回去吧！”晉軍也離開了鄭國。

晉靈公不行君道，大量征收賦稅來滿足奢侈的生活。他從高臺上用彈弓射行人，觀看他們躲避彈丸的樣子。廚師沒有把熊掌燉爛，他就把廚師

殺了，放在筐里，讓官女們用車載經過朝廷。大臣趙盾和士季看見露出的死人手，便詢問他被殺的原因，并為晉靈公的無道而憂慮。他們準備規勸晉靈公，士季說：“如果您去進諫而國君不聽，那就沒有人能接著進諫了。讓我先去規勸，他不接受，您就接著去勸。”士季去見晉靈公時往前走了三次，到了屋檐下，晉靈公才抬頭看他，并說：“我已經知道自己的過錯了，打算改正。”士季叩頭回答說：“哪個人能不犯錯誤呢，犯了錯誤能夠改正，沒有比這更大的好事了。《詩·大雅，蕩》說：‘沒有誰向善沒一個開始，但很少能堅持到底。’如果這樣，那么彌補過失的人就太少了。您如能始終堅持向善，那么國家就有了保障，而不止是臣子們有了依靠。《詩·大雅·烝民》又說： ‘周宣王有了過失，只有仲山甫來彌補。’這是說周宣王能補救過失。國君能夠彌補過失，君位就不會失去了。” 可是晉靈公仍然沒有改正。趙盾又多次勸諫，使晉靈公感到厭煩，晉靈公便派鉏麑去刺殺趙盾。鉏麑一大早就去了趙盾的家，只見臥室的門開著，趙盾穿戴好禮服準備上朝，時間還早，他和衣坐著打盹兒。鉏麑退了出來，感嘆地說：“時刻不忘記恭敬國君（指按時上朝），真是百姓的靠山啊。殺害百姓的靠山，這是不忠；背棄國君的命令，這是失信。不忠不信中有一樣，還不如去死！”于是，鉏麑一頭撞在槐樹上死了。

秋天九月，晉靈公請趙盾喝酒，事先埋伏下武士，準備殺掉趙盾。趙盾的車夫提彌明發現了這個陰謀，快步走上殿堂，說：“臣下陪君王宴飲，酒過三巡還不告退，就不合禮儀了。”于是他扶起趙盾走下殿堂。晉靈公喚出了猛犬來咬趙盾。提彌明徒手上前搏斗，打死了猛犬。趙盾說：“不用人而用狗，即使兇猛，又有什么用！”他們兩人與埋伏的武士邊打邊退。結果，提彌明為趙盾戰死了。

當初，趙盾到首陽山打獵，住在翳桑。他看見有個叫靈輒的人暈倒了，便去問他的病情。靈輒說：“我已經三天沒吃東西了。”趙盾給他東西吃，他留下了一半。趙盾詢問原因，靈輒說：“我給貴族做仆人已經三年了，不知道家中老母是否活著。現在離家近了，請允許我把這一半留給她。”趙盾讓他把食物吃完，另外給他準備了一籃飯和肉，放在口袋里給他。不久靈輒做了晉靈公的武士，他在搏殺中把武器倒過來抵擋晉靈公手下的人，使趙盾得以脫險。趙盾問他為什么這樣做，他回答說：“我就是在翳桑的餓漢。”趙盾再問他的姓名和住處，他沒有回答就退走了。趙盾自己也逃亡了。

九月二十六日，趙穿在桃園殺掉了晉靈公。趙盾還沒有走出國境的山界，聽到靈公被殺便回來了。晉國太史董狐記載道：“趙盾弒殺了他的國君。”他還把這個說法拿到朝廷上公布。趙盾說： “不是這樣。”董狐說：“您身為正卿，逃亡而不出國境，回來后又不討伐叛賊，不是您殺了國君又是誰呢？”趙盾說：“哎！《詩經》中 說：‘由于我懷念祖國，反而自己找來了憂患。’這話大概說的是我吧。”

孔子說：“董狐是古代的好史官，記載史事的原則是直言不諱。趙盾是古代的好大夫，因為史官的記事原則而蒙受了弒君的惡名。可惜啊，如果他出了國境，就會避免弒君之名了。”

趙盾派趙穿到成周去迎接晉國公子黑臀，把他立為國君。十月初三，公子黑臀去朝拜了武公廟。

5.《鞌之戰》

公元前589年六月十七日，齊、晉雙方軍隊在鞍擺開陣勢。邴夏為齊侯駕車，逢丑父當為戎右（古代戰車，將領居左，御者居中。如果將領是君主或主帥則居中，御者居左。負責保護協助將領的人居右）。晉國的解張為郤克駕車，鄭丘緩當戎右。齊侯說：“我姑且消滅了這些人再吃早飯。”不給馬披上甲就驅馬奔馳（之：指駕車的馬）。郤克被箭射傷，血流到了鞋上，沒有中斷擂鼓，說：“我受重傷了（古代病重、傷重、饑餓、勞累過度造成體力難以支持，都叫‘病’）。”解張說：“從一開始交戰，箭就射進了我的手和肘，我折斷射中的箭桿繼續駕車，左邊的車輪都被我的血染成了黑紅色，我哪敢說受傷？您（‘吾子’比‘子’更親切些）忍著點吧！”鄭丘緩說：“從一開始接戰，如果遇到地勢不平，我必定下去推車，您難道知道這些嗎？不過您確實傷勢很重難以支持了。”解張說：“軍隊的耳朵和眼睛，都集中在我們的鼓聲和戰旗，前進后退都要聽從它。這輛車上只要還有一個人鎮守住它，戰事就可以成功。怎么能由于傷痛而敗壞了國君的大事呢？穿上盔甲，手執兵器，本來就抱定了必死的決心，傷痛還不至于死，您（還是）努力指揮戰斗吧！”解張將右手所持的轡繩并握于左手，騰出右手接過郤克的鼓槌擂鼓。張侯所駕的馬狂奔起來（由于單手持轡無法控制），晉軍跟隨他們。齊軍崩潰。晉軍追趕齊軍，繞著華不注山追了三遍。

韓厥夢見子輿（韓厥父，當時已去世）對自己說：“次天早晨避開戰車左右兩側！”因此（韓厥）在戰車當中駕車追趕齊侯。邴夏說：“射那個駕車的，是個貴族。”齊侯說：“稱他為貴族又去射他，這不合于禮。”（按，乃齊侯愚蠢之舉）射他左邊的人，墜落車下；射他右邊的人，倒在車里。（晉軍）將軍綦毋張（晉大夫，綦毋氏，名張）失去戰車，跟隨韓厥，說：“請搭車。”跟在左邊或右邊，（韓厥）都用肘制止他，使他站在自己身后（按，韓厥由于夢中警告，所以這樣做，以免綦毋張受害）。韓厥彎下身子，把倒在車中的戎右安放穩當。逢丑父和齊侯交換位置（這是逢丑父為了保護齊侯，乘韓厥低下身子安放戎右的機會與齊侯交換位置，以便不能逃脫時蒙混敵人）。將要到達華泉（泉水名，在華不注山下）時，（齊侯）兩邊的（中間兩馬為服，旁邊兩馬為驂）被樹枝等鉤住。（昨天夜里）丑父睡在轏車（一種臥車）里，有蛇從他身底出現，以臂擊蛇，手臂受傷卻隱瞞了傷情（按，這是為了交代丑父之所以不能下來推車而補敘的頭天夜里的事）。所以不能推車而被追上。韓厥手持拴馬繩站在齊侯的馬前（縶：拴縛馬足的繩索），拜兩拜，然后下跪，低頭至地（這是臣下對君主所行的禮節。春秋時代講究等級尊卑，韓厥對敵國君主也行臣仆之禮）。捧著一杯酒并加上一塊玉璧向齊侯獻上，說：“我們國君派我們這些臣下為魯、衛兩國求情，他說：‘不要讓軍隊深入齊國的土地。’臣下不幸，正好在軍隊任職，沒有地方逃避隱藏（我不能不盡職作戰）。而且怕由于我的逃避會給兩國的國君帶來恥辱。臣下不稱職地處在戰士地位，冒昧地向您報告，臣下不才，代理這個官職是由于人才

缺乏充數而已（外交辭令：自己是不得已參加戰斗，不能不履行職責，來俘獲齊侯你）。”逢丑父（充齊侯）命令齊侯下車，往華泉去取水來給自己喝。鄭周父駕著齊君的副車，宛茷擔任副車的車右，載上齊侯使他脫身。韓厥獻上逢丑父，郤克的將領手下要殺掉他。呼喊道：“從今以后不會有代替他的國君承擔患難的，有一個在這里，還要被殺死嗎？”郤克說，“一個人不畏懼用死來使他的國君免于禍患，我殺了他不吉利。赦免他，用來鼓勵事奉國君的人。”于是赦免了逢丑父。
