摘要：英語演說詞歷來受到外語學(xué)習(xí)者的重視，許多演說詞被認(rèn)為是文學(xué)佳作。本文運用系統(tǒng)功能語言學(xué)理論，從語言的概念功能、人際功能和語篇功能三個方面對美國前總統(tǒng)布什的911演說詞進(jìn)行分析，揭示了該演說辭的藝術(shù)特色和寫作技巧，為廣大英語學(xué)習(xí)者提供啟示。關(guān)鍵詞：語言的概念功能 人際功能 語篇功能

語言的純理功能分析

halliday認(rèn)為，語篇是在一定的情景語境中產(chǎn)生的，所以語篇受制于情景語境，情景語境的三個變項是：話語范圍（field）、話語基調(diào)（tenor）和話語方式（mode）。thompson指出語言的情景語境變項與語言的三大純理功能密切相關(guān)。語言的三大純理功能是指概念功能、人際功能和語篇功能，它們分別受到話語范圍、話語基調(diào)和話語方式的支配。因此，人們可以從情景語境出發(fā)對語篇的語義特征和語言形式作出有據(jù)可循的預(yù)測。本文將選取布什911演說中一些具有代表性的語句進(jìn)行語言的純理功能分析。

1.1 概念功能分析。halliday和hasan認(rèn)為：“概念功能是指語言對人們在現(xiàn)實世界中的各種經(jīng)歷的表達(dá)，它體現(xiàn)在語法中的及物性系統(tǒng)和名詞。”

及物性系統(tǒng)包括六個不同的過程：“物質(zhì)過程、心理過程、關(guān)系過程、行為過程、言語過程和存在過程，以及與各種過程有關(guān)的參與者和環(huán)境成分”。在布什的這篇演說中，最明顯的是物質(zhì)過程和關(guān)系過程，這與該語篇的特點有關(guān)，下面將對這兩個過程進(jìn)行分析。

1.1.1 物質(zhì)過程。物質(zhì)過程是某人做某事的過程，包括動作者、動作目標(biāo)和動作過程。hodge和kress將動作過程分為執(zhí)行性和非執(zhí)行性兩種，也就是我們常說的主動語態(tài)和被動語態(tài)。如果說話者要突出動作的實施者，要使用執(zhí)行性動作過程，如果說話者要隱藏動作實施者，則要使用非執(zhí)行性動作過程。為了突出恐怖分子是911事件實施者的目的，布什在演說中使用了大量執(zhí)行性動作過程的句子，句中的動詞都帶有強烈的貶義色彩。如：they plot evil and destruction so as to kill christians and jews，to kill all americans.然而，當(dāng)布什提到美國政府即將采取的行動時，他的用詞卻明顯帶有褒義，目的是為了塑造其堅決果斷的形象，以獲得民眾的支持。如：we will take defensive measures against terrorism to protect americans.but the only way to defeat terrorism as a threat to our way of life is to stop it，eliminate it，and destroy it where it grows.以上一系列動詞的使用，增強了該演說語篇的概念功能，語言層層遞進(jìn)，充滿音韻之美和節(jié)奏感，目的是要向聽眾介紹美國下一步將采取的行動。

1.1.2 關(guān)系過程。關(guān)系過程分為歸屬類和識別類兩類。halliday指出：“在任何一個小句中，都有一個實體是標(biāo)記（token），一個是價值（value）。標(biāo)記和價值總是與識別者

（identifier）和被識別者（identitied）結(jié)合在一起”。在該演說中，布什將恐怖分子定義為宗教的叛徒、20世紀(jì)謀殺意識形態(tài)的繼承者，如：the terrorists are traitors to their own faith.they are the heirs of all the murderous ideologies of the 20th century.可見，布什的演說詞體現(xiàn)了功能語言學(xué)的識別理論。

1.2 人際功能分析。halliday認(rèn)為：“人際功能指的是語言表達(dá)講話者的身份、地位、動機并建立和維持一定社會關(guān)系的功能，它體現(xiàn)在語法中的人稱系統(tǒng)、語氣和情態(tài)。”

1.2.2 語氣。在該演說中，針對阿富汗塔利班政權(quán)，布什連續(xù)使用了5個帶有命令語氣的祈使句，要求其必須無條件配合美國政府交出基地組織領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人和保護(hù)外國公民，經(jīng)簡略后這5個祈使句如下：deliver to usa all the leaders of al qaeda.release all foreign nationals.protect foreign diplomats.close terrorist training camp，and hand over every terrorist.give usa full access to terrorist training camps.1.3 語篇功能分析。halliday認(rèn)為：“語篇功能指的是語言成分組織成為語篇的功能，它體現(xiàn)在語法中的主位結(jié)構(gòu)、信息結(jié)構(gòu)和銜接關(guān)系”。

1.3.1 主位結(jié)構(gòu)。我國功能語言學(xué)家胡壯麟認(rèn)為：“主位-述位銜接最基本的模式有以下三種：①重復(fù)前句中的主位，即第一句中的主位繼續(xù)成為第二句的主位，可表示為t1→t2。②從前句述位中的某個內(nèi)容發(fā)展為一個新的主位，可表示為r1→t2。③前句中主位和述位的內(nèi)容一起產(chǎn)生一個新的主位，可表示為t1+r1→t2。” 運用這一理論對布什的演說詞進(jìn)行分析發(fā)現(xiàn)，以上三種主位-述位銜接模式都有出現(xiàn)，但使用最多的是第一種模式，即：第一句的主位繼續(xù)成為第二句的主位，t1→t2，如：i（t）will not yield（r）； i（t）will not rest 篇二：911布什演講稿

country.With a simple oath, we affirm old traditions and make new beginnings.As I begin, I thank President Clinton for his service to our nation.And I thank Vice President Gore for a contest conducted with spirit and ended with grace.I am honored and humbled to stand here, where so many of America's leaders have come before me, and so many will follow.We have a place, all of us, in a long story--a story we continue, but whose end we will not see.It is the story of a new world that became a friend and liberator of the old, a story of a slave-holding society that became a servant of freedom, the story of a power that went into the world to protect but not possess, to defend but not to conquer.It is the American story--a story of flawed and fallible people, united across the generations by grand and enduring ideals.The grandest of these ideals is an unfolding American promise that everyone belongs, that everyone deserves a chance, that no insignificant person was ever born.Americans are called to enact this promise in our lives and in our laws.And though our nation has sometimes halted, and sometimes delayed, we must follow no other course.Through much of the last century, America's options, but in commitments.And we find that children and community are the commitments that set us free.Our public interest depends on private character, on civic duty and family bonds and basic fairness, on uncounted, unhonored acts of decency which give direction to our freedom.Sometimes in life we are called to do great things.But as a saint of our times has said, every day we are called to do small things with great love.The most important tasks of a democracy are done by everyone.I will live and lead by these principles: to advance my convictions with civility, to pursue the public interest with courage, to speak for greater justice and compassion, to call for responsibility and try to live it as well.In all these ways, I will bring the values of our history to the care of our Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration.The yearsand changes accumulate.But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose.Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.This work continues.This story goes on.And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.God bless you all, and God bless America.
