第一天,所有的學生都去參加了會議。我坐在一個叫戴安娜的女孩邊上。我們很快成了很要好的朋友。在會議期間。校長把有關學校的校規告訴了我們。他還告訴我們在學校贏得別人尊重最好的方法就是努力讀書取得高分。這聽起來就像是我中國的學校。

我們的校內俱樂部“下一代詩人”是由我們的英語老師歐文先生發起的一個文學俱樂部。每個月的最后一個星期五我們會聚在一起討論喜愛的詩歌和詩人。聚會的時候,我們首先挑選出我們喜愛的詩歌,然后朗誦這些詩歌。我們還在聚會時討論詩歌。
我第一次參加聚會的時候,被要求寫一首詩,還得當著俱樂部成員的面進行朗誦。起初我覺得有些緊張,但所有的成員都是那么親切、支好,我很快就不擔心了。有一次,我在學校花園里朗誦了一首表現大自然的詩歌。朗誦前.我選擇了一棵老樹,把大家都聚集在樹下。俱樂部成員們都說那是他們聽過的最好的詩歌之一。(鮑勃·肖)
第二單元
媽媽和爸爸外出度假,比預期的時間提前一天返回家中。媽和爸爸進門時,窗簾緊閉,起居室里黑咕隆咚的。
爸爸:
回家的感覺真好啊!
媽媽:
是啊,我迫不及待地要給兒子們一個驚喜呢!
突然,門開了,一只足球飛了進來。埃里克隨后跑進起居室,身后跟著一條大狗,走路慢吞吞的。
埃里克:媽媽!爸爸!你們這么早就回來了呀!
(四下打量,驚慌地)可是、可是??你們應該明天才到家的呀!
狗緩緩地走到媽媽和爸爸身邊。
媽媽:
(俯身撫摸著狗)埃里克,狗怎么又累又餓的啊!(看了看桌子)買狗食的錢不見了,可是小斑點看上去都餓壞了!你倆用我們留給你們的錢做什么了?
爸爸:
還有,你們看看這起居室——垃圾滿地都是!你哥哥在哪兒?
(生氣地喊)丹尼爾!
丹尼爾:(跑進起居室)媽媽,爸爸,我可以跟你們解釋
爸爸拉開窗簾,光線一下子照進屋里。起居室里一片狼藉:地板上堆放著比薩餅盒子,洗碗池里全是臟碗碟。角落里有只垃圾桶,在其周圍還有垃圾和廢紙。媽媽和爸爸同時轉向丹尼爾。
爸爸:
(非常生氣地)聽我說,年輕人——我們將這個家交給你負責!我們原以為你的行為舉止能像個大人樣了,可看看這片狼籍!我不知道為什么這個房子弄得這么臟 媽媽:

Project 很多青少年感到孤獨,好像沒有人理解他們以及他們正在經歷的變化。日子一天天過去,而所有事情似乎都是不同的,可又都是一成不變的。生活似乎從不過得足夠快;而從別的方面看,生活似乎過得太快甚至于失控,像開賽車一樣。別的人也有過同感么?
這些感覺是青春期——介于孩童和成人之間的人生階段——的正常組成部分。而且,雖然有時難以相信,并非只有你才是這樣——每一個成年人都經歷過青春期,而你的朋友和你一樣正經歷這個階段。對青少年而言,感到孤獨和被誤解是很普遍的。這些情感可以看作是成長的煩惱——是青少年邁向成年時所面對的困難。
在青少年成長的時候,對自己無論體內還是體外的狀態變化感到困惑對他們而言是正常現象。在青春期,青少年經歷著身體上的巨大變化。他們個子長高,聲音變低,還有很多其他的成長發育。
與這些生理變化同時而來的,還有很多心理上的變化。男孩和女孩在這方面往往有所不同。很多男孩成為危險嘗試者——他們希望找到自己的局限和他們周邊世界的局限,但也許并不具有對其行為作出正確抉擇的智慧。而與此同時,女孩則通常需要和某個人——或任何人進行交談,因為她們試圖面對自己強烈的情感。
在大千社會中,隨著青少年長大,他們努力地自力更生。他們或許迫切需要父母的關愛,卻又感覺疏遠;他們或許想要成為團體的一員,但又渴望獨立。正因為青少年們在平衡這些需要時有困難,所以他們經常質疑自己到底是誰以及怎樣融入社會。
好在這些成長的煩惱并不會持久。最終一切都會好起來一—青少年成長為健康的成年人,而青春期的變化和挑戰則轉變為成人生活中的種種變化和挑戰。

男孩失蹤,警方茫然
美國警方現已加緊對一名15歲男孩的搜索,該男孩于三天前在新罕布什爾州的多佛市失蹤。該事件引起了公眾的極大興趣,原因是有各種關于男孩失蹤前后天空中出現奇怪光亮和外星人造訪地球的新聞報道。
人們最后一次看見學生賈斯廷·福斯特是在星期五晚上。當晚8點,賈斯廷和兩個朋友到外面打棒球,這兩個朋友都說賈斯廷打完球就回家家。目擊者也說晚上10點45分他們看到賈斯廷朝家走去。賈斯廷的妹妹,九歲的凱莉說大約11點她聽到哥哥回到家中。

Project 喜馬拉雅雪人、北美野人和神農架野人 幾個世紀以來,不斷有人報告說在喜馬拉雅山區看到一種被稱為喜馬拉雅雪人的野生動物。據說,雪人是種高大多毛,像人類一樣用兩腳行走的動物。人們相信雪人有時下山攻擊村民。
1998年,一名美國登山愛好者聲稱,他在喜馬拉雅山的中國一側看見過一個雪人。“它走路的樣子像人類,但是有濃密的黑毛,大約6英尺高,雙肩寬闊,兩臂很長,還有一雙大手。”他說。
2007年,一個美國電視拍攝組在珠穆朗瑪峰附近看到雪地中3 3厘米長的雪人腳印。他們復制了這些腳印,并讓美國的一位科學家進行研究。他(科學家)報告說,它們看起來像一種叫北美野人的類似動物的腳印。有人認為北美野人生活在美國西北部的森林里。
喜馬拉雅雪人和北美野人與被稱為神農架野人的生物很相似。已有很多關于人們在中國湖北省西部的神農架自然保護區看到過一個野人的報道。其中一篇報道講一群工程師追趕這種以驚人速度和力量移動的生物。人們也發現過一些巨大腳印,有人稱它們屬于野人。因為這些報道和腳印,人們已經開展了數次有組織的針對該生物的搜尋活動,但是從沒有找到它存在的有力證據。
華盛頓州立大學的一名科學家格洛夫·克蘭茨博士曾研究有關這類奇怪生物的報道多年。他堅信他們的存在。他認為,這些生物與一個共同的祖先相關聯,該動物生活于約3 0萬年前的亞洲。他的看法是這種動物遷徙到了世界上的其他地區,并一直存活至今。

因為我們需要徒步行走將近兩周時間,所以我得預先買一個大容量的旅行背包來背我的給養一—食物和飲水。白天,我們將穿行于陸地,追尋大象、獅子和長頸鹿之類的野生動物的足跡。盡管這些動物很危險,我們還是要試著盡可能地靠近它們,這樣我們就能拍到一些非常棒的照片。但是,不要為我擔心,我們的導游都是隨身帶槍用于防衛的一一如果動物靠得太近,導游就可以用槍將它們嚇跑。我真的很想近距離地看一頭大象,科林則想看一頭長頸鹿。

到底什么地方才能正式得到這個人間奇境的名稱呢?曾有關于哪個旅游景點能贏得香格里拉這個美名的爭論。此書出版許多年之后,一些人發現,小說中的香格里拉與中國云南省的中旬完全吻合。1997年9月,云南省人民政府宣布,中旬就是希爾頓小說中的香格里拉。在香格里拉你會看到什么?

木乃伊的詛咒
霍華德·卡特是有史以來世界上最出名的探險家之一。他勇敢無畏,愛好去從未去過的地方探險。在其一生中他發現了許多令人驚奇的東西。
霍華德·卡特沒有上過學,但是他從畫家父親那里學會了畫畫。他天資聰穎,對家鄉之外的世界充滿了好奇心。1891年,在17歲的時候,他揚帆遠航到了埃及的亞歷山大。到了20世紀20年代,他已成為一名探險家,致力于尋找古埃及國王的陵墓。他找到了不少重要的陵墓。在這些陵墓中,他發現了大量的珠寶和黃金,同時還有已故國王經過處理的遺體,這些經過處理的遺體就是為人所知的木乃伊。
1922年,在埃及的國王谷,霍華德·卡特做出了他最驚人的發現。此次探險之前,他得到了卡那封勛爵的資助。卡那封是個對埃及非常感興趣的英國人。卡特的探險隊當時在盧克素城附近的地方進行工作。在這個地方,他們發現了圖坦卡蒙國王的陵墓。這是有史以來所發現的最重要的陵墓。“除了國王的木乃伊之外,這座陵墓還藏有大量的珍寶,比我們任何人先前所見過的都要多。”卡特說,“在探查過這座陵墓之后,我們將其封起來,并掩藏了其人口。以后我們要在有更多的時間時來研究這座陵墓。此后,其所有的東西都要收進博物館。”

喬治·古爾德,卡那封勛爵的朋友,在獲悉其奇怪死訊后趕赴埃及。他也去了陵墓,結果第二天就發高燒.1 2小時后便去世了。卡特的秘書理查德·貝塞爾在打開陵墓四個月后死于心臟病。另外一名探險隊員阿瑟·梅斯也在發現陵墓后不久死去。
七年間,與陵墓發掘工作有關的人員之中有2 1人死亡。但是,霍華德·卡特卻一直活到了65歲。有人說所有那些死亡只是巧合。另一些人則相信這與木乃伊的詛咒有關,是對闖入亡靈安息地的人的懲罰。
盡管如此,仍有其他一些人認為,此事有一個科學的解釋。那些陵墓中藏有大量病毒。陵墓被打開時,新鮮的空氣攪動了這些病毒。一旦被人吸入,它們就可能導致疾病甚至死亡。如今,科學家們在檢查木乃伊的時候都要穿上特殊的服裝以保護自己。
但有一點可以肯定的是,“木乃伊的詛咒”至今仍是個謎。
Project 探險家
2003年10月16日
在21小時23分鐘之內你能夠得到的最大樂趣會是什么呢?2003年10月15日,楊利偉回答了這個問題。他的太空之旅讓他在僅僅21小時多一些的時間內沿軌道飛行60萬公里,環繞地球14圈。這使他成為進入太空的首位中國宇航員。為了這一成就,他經過了多年的努力。
楊利偉出生于1965年,從他還是個小男孩的時候起,就夢想著飛行。他在遼寧省東北部綏中的朋友和老師都說他從小就熱愛科學技術。他對學習飛行總有一種強烈的愿望。他的夢想得到了父母以及姐姐和弟弟的鼓勵。
1983年,他參軍進入飛行學校。他干1987年畢業,并成為一名飛行員。1998年,他申請成為“9 2 1”計劃即現名“神舟”計劃的成員。他是從將近1500名候選人當中遴選出來的僅僅14人中的一員。在接下來的五年時間里,這些隊員接受了各種訓練。他們不僅學習成為宇航員所必修的全部科目,還學習生存技巧,以及關于飛船和火箭制造的所有知識。在隊員們所學習的各門功課中,楊利偉的成績都名列前茅。
200 3年9月,1 4名候選人中的3名隊員被挑選參加中國的太空探險,楊利偉是其中之一。他接受了所有的測試,并證實了他是擔任此項重任的合格人選。雖然楊利偉并非每項測試都得了最高分,但他各項心理測試所得的高分最終為他贏得了中國首位宇航員的身份。楊利偉的上級將他描述為一個勤奮刻苦、始終能夠自控的人。因為這些品質,他的領導對于他將會成功持樂觀態度。
最終,楊利偉的確成功了。他的名字將與尤里·加加林、艾倫·謝帕德一道載入史冊。中國人民能為楊利偉而自豪,全世界的年輕人也會將他視為努力實現夢想的榜樣。

在英國高中讀一年書對于我來說是一個有趣又刺激的經歷。我對學校的作息時間很滿意因為學校在上午9.00左右開始上課在下午3.30放學。這意味著我可以比往常晚起一個小時因為中國的學校在8.00之前上課。
第一天,所有的學生都去參加了會議。我坐在一個叫戴安娜的女孩邊上。我們很快成了很要好的朋友。在會議期間。校長把有關學校的校規告訴了我們。他還告訴我們在學校贏得別人尊重最好的方法就是努力讀書取得高分。這聽起來就像是我中國的學校。
