Thank you, Mr.Chairperson, Mr.Director-General, distinguished members of the ILO's Governing Body and friends.I welcome this opportunity to be here today, with an Organization which in many ways belongs to all of us workers.I can think of, in fact, no other international body that one can claim as one's own so unambiguously.I have also had a longstanding formal association with the ILO.Many of my early pieces on women and technological change and on land rights were published by the ILO, as well as was the work of many other scholars. It is therefore a pleasure for me to be here on this important Symposium. The canvas of the Symposium is very large.I will focus on two aspects of gender inequality that centrally effect millions of women as workers but perhaps have failed to receive the attention they deserve.First, the gender gap in command over property and Productive assets and, second, gender biased social perceptions and social norms.Sample 2
I learned last May that you have to be careful in speaking to a group of professional communicators. After I conducted a writer' s workshop at the Toronto Conference of the International Association of Business Communicators, Janine Lichaczwrote asked me to speak here tonight and used the communication techniques I had recommended. She even included a footnote citing my lecture.I am susceptible to good communication and to flattery so I am pleased to be with you to discuss your topic for the evening, the use of language in the art of speech writing.I suppose we must begin by shaking our heads, woefully, over the sad state of language today, whether in formal speeches, casual conversation, or in writing. Most of us in this room no doubt agree with the generally negative tone of Time Magazine's year-end assessment which claims “our language has been besieged by vulgarities”.But to preserve our sanity as professionals in communication of us would probably join Time in optimistically expecting English somehow to survive and even to prosper.Expressions on Other Occasions Correcting the Title of the Presentation First of all, I would like to mention that the title of my presentation should be...Please allow me to correct a mistake in the title of my speech which appeared in the program.Instead of...it should read...Reading.Another Person's Paper Sometimes you are selected to read another person's paper, as he or she is absent.I shall read a paper by Dr.Li from Guangzhou, china, who regrets that he could not be here. The title of his paper is...I'm going to read the paper by Dr.Wang.It's a great pity that, because of a health problem, he could not be here.I was asked by the author to read his paper. He apologizes for not being able to come here. The next speaker, Prof.Zhang, regrets that she could not be here and has submitted her paper to me.I am not sure if I can present it as well as she expected.I am not sure whether I' 11 be able to be very confident in answering specific questions. However, I am somewhat familiar with his work, so I' 11 try my best.Checking the Microphone
First I want to check if all of you can hear me clearly.Am I speaking clearly and loudly enough for those in the rear of the room? I wonder if those in the rear of the room can hear me.If those in the rear of the room can hear me, would someone please raise his hand? Can you hear me clearly? Can you hear me if I am away from the microphone? Is the microphone working? * Summary-How to Prepare a Good Introduction
Realize file great importance of the introduction of file presentation mad then do your best in delivering it.Don' t make file introduction either too wordy, or too brief.Usually, it covers 10 to 15 percent of your entire speech.Select tile ways to capture the audience attention.Indicate tile topic.Outline your Speech.Announce your purpose.Prepare several versions of tile introduction, compare them, and then select the best version. Finally, learn it by heart so as to be able to deliver it easily mid fluently.Don't start your speech with apologies.Pay attention to your body language.Chapter II Developing the Speech Text I.Announcing the Beginning of the Speech Text To begin with, I would like to talk about a principle.I think it would be best to start out by looking at some pictures. The first thing I would like to talk about is the definition of the terms which I’11 use in my presentation.II.Shifting to the Next Main Point Well, let's move on to the next point. We will now come to the second problem.Turning to the next question, I' 11 talk about the stages of the procedure. As the second topic, I shall stop here. Now let' s turn our attention to the third topic. So much for the methodology of our experiment.I would now like to shift to the discussion of the results. Now, let's move away from the first part and switch over to the next part of my presentation. That's all for the introduction and now we can go on to the literature review.Next, I would like to turn to a more difficult problem. The next point I'd like to talk about is the feasibility of this project. That brings me to my second point.I am glad that we can now leave this rather boring subject of mathematic deduction and go into a more attractive one, that is the application of the formula.III.Resuming the Topic
Let' s come back to what I said in the first part of my speech.Getting back to the subject of the problem of theoretical considerations we can find that...I want to return to the first part of my presentation. Now, to get back to the effect of temperature, you may be aware that the problems have been solved. This brings me back to the question of security. At this point I would like to refer again to the question of methods in the first part of my lecture.Referring again to the first question, I think...Referring to the Coming Point I'll deal with it later.I' 11 touch upon that point in a moment.I shall tell you in detail shortly.IV.Introducing the Supporting Materials
I think this part is the most difficult, so I'll explain it in greater detail.I think this part of my paper is most important, so I plan to spend more time on it.Please allow me to deal with this matter more extensively.Being the most important part of my presentation, I will elaborate on it with more slides.I' 11 expand this topic with drawings and figures.Indicating the Points Briefly Limited by the time available, I can only give you a very brief account of this matter.I don't think that I should describe the methods in detail, because they are included in the handout.I will not go into detail on it.This point has been talked about repeatedly in this symposium, so I am not going to spend too much time on it.Let's go through the following points very rapidly.I just want to outline for you what I experienced in using this new drug.I shall not go over all these explanations. My time is running short. So I'’11 be brief. It is sufficient to say that these experiments were poorly designed and without controls.V.Repairing a Slip of Tone
The first of such experiments began in 2000, rather than 1999.May I have the lights, I mean the slides. The temperature increased, I shall say decreased. The population is 13 million, sorry, 31 million. The exchange rate dropped from 2.5 to 1.8, I beg your pardon, 1.9.As you can see from the first row, excuse me, the second row, that the output increased two fold.VI.Expressions Concerning Audio-Visual Aids

Now, we can have the lights on.Please switch on the lights.Lights on, please.I apologize that this slide is not so clear, but I hope you can still make out the general idea.Sorry for the small print.I'm sorry we left a figure out here.VI.Explaining the Contents on the Slides This slide demonstrates...On this slide, you can see...This curve in this slide shows...This figure in this slide exhibits...This table on this slide presents...This diagram on this slide depicts...This chart on this slide displaces...The picture on this slide shows...The photomicrograph on this slide shows...The flow-chart on this slide points out...The circuit diagram on this slide represents~...~ Indicating the Sources of the Content in a This figure is taken from.., by Dr.Li.This diagram is after that of Prof.Wang with some modification VII.Demanding to Show the Next Slide May I proceed to the next slide, please?
英語國家的人講這么一句話,“Thank you for the warm hospitality that makes me feel so welcome。”
How to use the microphone
You must speak up and project your voice even if you are using a microphone;
即使是用話筒,也要聲音響亮并運氣發聲;
Your voice should be resonant and sustained when you speak;
聲音要有回聲并能稍持續一陣兒;
pitch your voice slightly lower than normal.Listeners tend to associate credibility and authority with a relatively deep voice;
音調要定得比正常講話時低一些,聽眾往往把可信度與權威性與一個相對低沉的聲音聯系在一起;
Try to end declarative sentences on a low tone without, however, trailing off in volume;
盡量用降調結束陳述句,但不要減弱音量;
Slow down.
I believe in our future Honorable Judges, fellow students:
Recently, ther is a heated debate in our society. The college students are the beneficiaries of a rare privilege, who receive exceptional education at extraordinary places. But will we be able to face the challenge and support ourselves against all odds? Will we be able to better the lives of others? Will we be able to accept the responsibility of building the future of our country?
The cynics say the college students are the pampered lost generation, which would cringe at the slightest discomfort. But the cynics are wrong. The college students I see are eagerly learning about how to live independently. We help each other clean the dormitory, go shopping and bargain together, and take part time jobs to supplement our pocket money. The cynics say we care for nothing other than grades;and we neglect the need for character cultivation. But again, the cynics are wrong. We care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth.Last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer. As college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives. We all face a fundamental choice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country.I believe in all my fellow classmates.Though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish.I believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities. We are preparing to assume new responsibilities and tasks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a better place.I believe in our future.

17 Change The Ingredients Of Your Life
This is a glass of water, tasteless, right? However if you add sugar, it will taste sweet, but if you add vinegar, it will become bitter. The same is true with our life the flavor is created by our choices. If kindness is added to a strange you will have a friend;but if hostility is added, you will have an enemy. If love is added to a pile of red bricks you will have a home, but if hatred is add to those bricks , you will have an concentration camp.So my dear friends, never complain that life is boring and the world is disappointing. If don‘t like the taste of your life, change the ingredients.Three year ago, I weighed more than 100 hundred kilograms which caused significant embarrassment and frustration in my life.Like always failing my P.E examinations, like always being laughed at by girls, like being terrified to speak in public. It was my grandmother‘s encouragement that revived from my passive attitude to become confident in myself. She said ― My dear, if you can‘t change you figure, why not treat it as your own style. So I began to cautiously employ the new way of thinking.By choosing to change my outlook on life, I developed the confidence to make a difference and finally I found a totally new world. So my dear friend, if faith, hope, love, endurance are added to your life, you will find the confidence to conquer your limitation and embrace new challenges. And hopefully with my speech included, you will have a fantastic speech contest.

16 The East and the West, Let‘s enjoy the combination of the two cultures?
Kipling said:―East is east, and west is west, and never the twain shall meet!‖ But now, a century later, they have met. They have met in business. They have met in education. They have met in the arts. Some people will argue that these meetings will leave us with a choice between east and west, but I believe that the best future lies in the creative combination of both worlds. We can make western ideas, customs and technology our own, and adapt them to our own use.We can enjoy the best of both worlds, because our tradition is, above all, one of selecting the best and making it our own.I love Beijing and Hennan opera because it always reminds me of who I am.But I am also a fan of pop music, especially English songs. So I have combined eastern melody with western language. It is called western henna opera. When two cultures meet, there may be things in one culture, which do not fit into the tradition of the other. When this happens, we need to learn to understand and respect the customs of another culture. Then there are certain things some people may not like.

To this, I will say, if you do not like it, please try to tolerate it.To learn to tolerate what you personally don‘t like is a great virtue at a time when different cultures mix and merge. Before us, there are two rivers, eastern and western cultures. At present, they may run in different courses. But eventually, they will converge into the vast sea of human culture.Right now, I can see peoples of eastern and western cultures, standing side by side, singing the Olympic theme song: we are hand in hand, heart to heart, together we will shape a beautiful tomorrow!Thank you!
Farewell, Indifference
Who was the most well-known figure in China last month? It‘s Ma JiaJue—the college student who murdered 4 of his roommates. Many people attributed his crime to his poverty and deficient education. In my opinion, his crime also has much to do with his classmates‘ indifference.

Indifference is a terrible disease in today‘s colleges and the whole society. It‘s not rare that two students who have studied together for 4 years have never spoken to each other. It‘s not rare that a student who has been absent from class for several days is not noticed at all. It‘s also not rare that a student who has severe psychological problems is not cared about at all. Some people may say ?What the students with psychological problems like Ma JiaJue need is not care but psychotherapy.‖ However, when people are ill, what they need most is not only medical treatment, but also care from people around them.Every smile and every caring word will bring sunshine to their life.I once heard one of my roommates who was an introverted girl sobbing at mid-night.Being afraid of disturbing her, I sent a text message to comfort her.The next day, she told me that she was crying for not being invited to one of her friend‘s birthday party. She thought she was neglected by others. But my message was really comforting which told her someone still cared about her. What can we do to prevent the tragedy of Ma JiaJue from happening again? Some people may say ?Let‘s open more psychological courses in schools.‘ and other people may say ?Let‘s donate more money for the poor students.‘ But I‘ll say ―My fellow student, let‘s give more love and care to our roommates, our classmates and every person around us!‖

14 I Am Tripping My Elephant Here
Once upon a time, a weenie ant was walking on his way.As he was walking, suddenly he felt the ground shaking terribly. He looked around with his paranoid eyes and saw an elephant walking right behind him.Quickly, the little ant covered himself with dirt, but one leg was unfortunately left out.A sparrow saw everything, so she flew down with the purpose of teasing the ant: ―Hey, chicken!Watch out your leg, it‘s out!‖ The ant felt embarrassed at first but then calmly responded: ― Shi…I am going to trip that elephant.‖
From all that I‘ve been through I‘ve learned that a good future is based on a forgotten past, if I want my life to go on well I have to let go of my past failure. So today, with out fear, I am tripping my elephant again.

made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.Wow, what a dream it has been for Martin Luther King. But the changing world seems telling me that people gradually get their dreams lost somehow in the process of growing up, and sometimes I personally find myself saying goodbye unconsciously to those distant childhood dreams. However, we meed dreams. They nourish our spirit;they represent possibility even when we are dragged down by reality. They keep us going. Most successful people are dreamers as well as ordinary people who are not afraid to think big and dare to be great. When we were little kids, we all dreamed of doing something big and splashy, something significant. Now what we need to do is to maintain them, refresh them and turn them into reality. However, the toughest part is that we often have no ideas how to translate these dreams into actions.Well, just start with concrete objectives and stick to it.Don‘t let the nameless fear confuse the eye and confound our strong belief of future.Through our talents, through our wits, through our endurance and through our creativity, we will make it.Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.Hold fast to dreams, for when dreams go, life is a barren field frozen with snow.So my dear friends, think of your old and maybe dead dreams.Whatever it is, pick it up and make it alive from today.

12 Make Every Moment Count
One night, I complained to my mom about the lack of time. Finally she said,"you are short of time just because you waste precious minutes on complaints and anxiety. The point is, no matter how full your schedule is, if you try really hard, you can always fit in some thing more."
It is the same with filling the jar.Even if you place a dozen fist-sized rocks and a bucket of gravel into the jar, there is still space for sand and water between the rocks and gravel. The lack of time is just the excuse for my negligence of every single minute.I believe that the great dividing line between success and failure can be expressed in six words,"I did not have enough time."The fact is I do have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein. The point is I have never touched upon the real meaning of life which lies in snatching, seizing and enjoying every minute of it.No idleness, no delay, no procrastination, no complaint! It is during my moments of complaining or hesitation that my destiny is shaped.Once I make full use of every moment, I believe that, my worries will be gradually cut down to nothing.Time is the most valuable of all our possessions, but the most perishable as well.As Henry David Thoreau said,"You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment."
Whenever I fell the lack of time in the future, I will tell myself "Carpe diem , seize the day, make every moment count."

英語風采大賽半決賽演講稿8 Change(大學成人組)
Leo Tolstoy once said, everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself. He is right. We always have great plans and dreams in our minds… too ready to achieve something grand that changes the world or benefits all of mankind. For example;we hate pollution and have made up our minds to find new energy sources that keep the environment clean.Yet we still litter on the ground. We complain about traffic jams, so we plan to build more highways to solve the problem, but it never occurs to us that our failure to follow traffic regulations is the leading cause of this situation. We are so concerned that the violence in the media has a bad impact on our children, we urge the government to set laws to protect them. But, do we, as adults, set a good example for our kids? We use nasty words and even spit on the ground in front of them, I dare to say, we harm more!

In my opinion, before we decide to change the world, we had better change ourselves first. As ordinary individuals, we do not have the power to change the world. But we can change our habit of littering, spitting, cussing, we can respect the environment around us, we must act as good models for our kids.If each of us does all of these little things, all of us, millions and millions of individuals together, together we will be strong …strong enough to change our world!
So please, the next time you do something, think how your actions influence not only you, but those around you too, especially our children …and perhaps more importantly…our planet!

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.Today I want to tell you a story about one of my friends, a lovely and smart girl who is always ready to help others.Being our grade leader, she is good at both work and study. In many people's opinion, she is excellent and perfect. But one day she told me she was gloomy and insecure.People around her considered her outstanding and flawless, thinking she could handle everything. But the more she thought about herself, the more disappointed she became. She found that she was far from perfection.Last week, she didn‘t do well in her French quiz, and the day before yesterday, she was late for a conference. She felt depressed and frustrated, because she failed to be a perfect girl without any mistakes.I was surprised to hear that for I thought she had every reason to be confident. However, the expectation of perfection has become a burden to her.I told her no one could be perfect and I suggested she find her own position. In fact, people are so eager to be perfect that they demand too much of themselves. They want to be special and unique, and they want to have no defects or weaknesses. However, we can never avoid mistakes and errors. It‘s impossible for us to be a superman or a superwoman. No matter how successful we are, there are always some flaws. If we hold that everything should be perfect, we would be overcritical. My friend now has changed her attitude. She accepts her shortcomings but still keeps a positive outlook. She is even more active and doesn‘t allow the mistakes to hinder her pursuit of excellence. And I think that‘s the way we should be!That‘s all.Thank you!

Never Give Up
―If I could reach higher, just for one moment to touch the sky…‖---this is from my favorite song Reach. When we are appreciating the passionate melody of Gloria Estefan, we could hardly imagine that she could return to the stage after her paralysis. In the year 1990, this Cuban singer was knocked down in a traffic accident, and the doctor declared that she might never walk again. But Gloria did not give up and kept up constant exercising.Just one year after the disaster, she stood up again and presented this encouraging song at the Atlanta Olympics.Whenever I think of Gloria, I can‘t help recalling my memory seven years ago, when I first entered university.Naturally shy, ordinary looking, average scores in study, just like an ugly duckling, I seemed to be the least outstanding one in my class. And the successive failures in the beginning led me into despair.―Am I destined to take the back seat to others?‖ Unwilling to submit to the fate, I paid more efforts on my study as well as many other activities, film dubbing, recital, drama… cause I just want to catch every little opportunity to prove myself.Constant effort yields sure success. Thanks to the competition, I received some awards and most of all, I gained the courage and confidence to face any difficulties in my life journey.Life is just like farming, and what you can reap depends a lot on your sowing and dedication.Once you have a dream, don‘t be hesitant.Your next difficult step may be the one to the top.Keep going forward, even in the toughest time, and never give up.

3 The Importance of Keeping Optimistic
Honourable judges, ladies and gentlemen,Good afternoon!Today I would like to talk about the importance of keeping opti
mistic. When we encounter difficulties in life, we notice that some of us choose to bury their heads in the sand.Unfortunately, however, this attitude will do you no good, because if you will have no courage even to face them, how can you conquer them? Thus, be optimistic, ladies and gentlemen, as it can give you confidence and help you see yourself through the hard times, just as Winston Churchill once said, ―An optimist sees an opportunity in every calamity;a pessimist sees a calamity in every opportunity.‖
Ladies and Gentlemen, keeping optimistic, you will be able to realize, in spite of some hardship, there‘s always hope waiting for you, which will lead you to the ultimate success.Historically as well as currently, there are too many optimists of this kind to enumerate. You see, Thomas Edison is optimistic;if not, the light of hope in his heart could not illuminate the whole world.Alfred Nobel is optimistic;if not, the explosives and the prestigious Nobel Prize would not have come into being. And Lance Armstrong is also optimistic;if not, the devil of cancer would have devoured his life and the world would not see a 5-time winner of the Tour De France.A rose may be beautiful, or maybe not;that depends on your attitude only, and so does success, so does life.Hindrances and difficulties do exist, but if you are optimistic,愛思英語學習網

then they are only episodes on your long way to the throne of success;they are more bridges than obstacles! Now I prefer to end my speech with the great British poet Shelley‘s lines: ―If winter comes, can spring be far behind?‖ Thank you!
2 What College Education Means to Me
The title of my speech is ―What college education means to me‖.Now reflecting on the past two and half years of my college experience, I come to realize how much it has shaped me.For me, college education is a marvelous ship-builder who designed me from kneel plates up.With great vision, college education has equipped me, first with a powerful propeller----the sophisticated knowledge in certain field and wide exposure to other disciplines.By dedicating myself to the engineering courses in the day and immersing myself in the r愛思英語學習網

My one year‘s experience as a part-time English teacher has testified: to be valuable to society as well as to find my place, I have to possess some actual strength and the ability to function well in the most challenging situation.Amid the hectic schedule that balances club activities, sports, and academic courses, I feel the rhythm and beauty in the intensity of my high-pitched life, knowing that I ‘m on the right way.And more importantly, college education has set up not only single ships, but also fleets with common destinations.By interacting with friends of common beliefs, I‘ve acquired skills of relating to other people. Now ,as a ship about to make my maiden voyage ,I‘m still not in the position to tell what‘s waiting ahead of me ,but with a powerful propeller, a precise compass and ardent companions of sailing in the sea of society, I‘m ready to be a great sea-explorer.Thank you.

(Finding Me-time is Important)
Hello, Dear teachers and fellow students. It is my honor to be here on this beautiful Friday morning to share with you my view on ―Me-time‖.In my opinion, finding me-time is important. With the development of the modern society, we students in China have more and more pressure. We have to spare every minute to study very hard and join various kinds of out-of-class training courses to improve ourselves. So we are really in lack of me-time which is helpful to keep ourselves from being over-stressed、tired and worried.I do not have as much fun as before and I always miss my childhood.Three hours of homework and two piano lessons one day make me have hardly any me-time to relax myself.I was once an active basketball player on my school team. But now, basketball, my best friend, I haven‘t touched it for almost two months.Me-time seems to have become a luxury.Last week, when I heard there was going to be a basketball match between our school and No 1 Middle School, I was so excited that I rushed home and told my parents the news.I asked my father, ― Dad, may I play basketball after school ? The coach says I am the best guard in our school. If I join the school basketball team, we are sure to beat No 1 Middle School this time.‖ My father showed his dispproval and said, ― Of course you can‘t.I‘m disappointed at you.Why do you have such a silly idea? Don‘t forget to work hard on your schoolwork and piano lessons.‖ In my parents‘ points of view, playing basketball is a waste of time.As far as I‘m concerned, the school assignment to the junior school students is too heavy. To grow into healthy and well-rounded adults, we should be allowed to have more me-time for relaxation. The pressure put on our students by excessive schoolwork can cause serious stress, which is unhealthy physically and mentally.

My dear teachers, I hope you can assign less homework so we students can enjoy a period of me-time.My dear parents, would you please not follow me and remind me of study all the time? Please trust me that I will do my best.My dear friends, why not stop for a while from your heavy homework and do anything you like? It‘s me-time.I do think, that a reduction of the current heavy load would be beneficial to us students and to the society as a whole.Finding me-time will make our life rich, colorful and rewarding.Thank you for your attention!Finding me time is important(琳)
Hello, my dear friends, it is my great honor to be here and give a speech.Today I want to talk about the importance of finding *me time*.May I begin my speech by asking you a question? Do you often feel tired, stressed or worried? If you do have these problems, you are lack of me-time to relax yourself.Psychologist tell us that stress is caused by too much work or study , heavy responsibilities , and quickened pace of life.In my point of view, if you want to have a healthy mind and body, having your own me-time is very important.Let me take myself as an example.I was a carefree and outgoing girl before I entered the junior high school.I had much me-time and did anything I like after class.I kept a lovely pet and whenever I have time I played with her happily. However, the situation is quite different now. When I want to turn on the TV、surf on the internet or go out shopping with my friends, my parents always look at me seriously and say ― Don‘t forget to spend more time on your lessons. If you don‘t cherish every minute of your time, other students will catch up with you.‖
So, every day, every moment, I am overwhelmed by all kinds of assignments.I become more and more silent and can‘t sleep well before the exams because I‘m dressed and worried about my results.I feel so tired and how I want to have me time to relax myself.I long for a period of time that I could walk in a small path in the countryside, sing my favourite song and smell the essence of nature. My dear friends, having your own me-time is important.I firmly believe that achievements depend on our health. If we want to have a more harmonious state to work better, we should find more *me time* and keep off the overwhelm stresses.Talks, jokes, games, fresh air or beautiful scenes will be helpful for you.Trust me, you‘ll be more refreshable and energetic.

23 I can handle it
I can never forget the summer in 1996.I went through an extremity of despair due to my failure in the National College Entrance Examination. It seemed that my dream of being a university student would never come true. One evening my father came and told me the story of Steven Callahan, who was crossing the Atlantic alone in his sailboat when it struck something and sank.It was a miracle that he survived and was found 76 days later(the longest anyone has survived a shipwreck on a life raft alone).Later in his narrative he wrote these sentences ―I tell myself I can handle it.Compared to what others have been through I‘m fortunate‖.Hearing these sentences I felt something important struck me.I belived my life would mot be that bad and it was proved to be true.Later during my study in the university I always told myself ―I can handle it‖ when my own goals seemed far off or when my problems seemed too overwhelming and every time I said it ,I always came back to my senses., I will tell the same story of Callahan to them.I just want to make them believe they can handle their difficulties because their circumstances are only bad compared to something better. But others have been through much worse. Then they will build up fortitude. So here, coming to us from the extreme edge of survival, are words that can give us strength.Whatever you‘re going through, tell yourself you can handle it.Compared to what others have been through, you‘re fortunate.Tell this to yourself over and over, and it will help you get through the rough spots with little more fortitude.

21 Me and my Fears
Honorable judges, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:
It is a great honor and pleasure to be here on this beautiful Saturday morning to share with you my sentiments about life and passion for the English language.About a year and a half ago, I took part in my very first English Speech Contest. When I stood before the microphone with all eyes starring directly at me, I could hardly speak.I stood there, embarrassed and helpless, struggling in vain for the right thing to say.My fears had paralyzed me.While my passion for English has never changed, I lost my courage to speak in public. When my professor again encouraged me to take part in this Competition, I said ―no.‖ I couldn‘t endure yet another painful experience. He looked me straight in the eye and said something that pierced my heart.I will never forget his words.―Look,‖ he said, ―We all have our fears, and you have yours. You could twist your ankle in a basketball game, but then be afraid to ever play again.Running away can never dispel your fears, but action will.A winner is not one who never fails, but one who never quits.‖
I spent a whole day with his words twisting and turning in my mind. Then I made the bravest and wisest decision of my life: I would face my fears – and take part in the competition!
here I am, once again standing before a microphone. My heart is beating fast, and my mouth is dry, but most importantly, I have faced my fears--and that makes all the difference!

Thank you.
The Future Is Now-The Choice is yours
As two men were about to be sent into prison, the warden let each of them make a demand. The American loved smoking, so he wanted three boxes of cigars;while the Jew said all he needed was a telephone to contact with people outside of the prison. Two years later, the first out was the American who still had many cigars in his hands and pockets but was crying: ―Give me some matches!‖ Then the Jew walked out, he shook hands with the warden and said: ―Thank you for the phone, it made my business increase by 200%.‖
What do you think of this story? Life today is what you‘ve decided years ago, and so is the future: your decisions today will affect your destiny years later. Now I have two things to choose from: to go abroad, to find myself a decent job after graduation or to further my study as a postgraduate.I haven‘t worked out an answer to this question yet, but I know that whatever I do will directly affect my future.

An Indian once said life is just like a game of cards, the cards in your hand represent opportunities, while the way you play decides the result you‘ll get.Looking back in history, during World War Ⅱ, Churchill who led the British people resolved to expect ―blood, toil, tears and sweat‖.They won the victory then.Today Shenzhou 5 took the first Chinese astronaut into space.I am sure that later there‘ll be more spacecrafts, like Shenzhou 6,7 and 8 ……
So what does the future look like? No one can tell. But I know the choice is yours, the future is now.Make good use of everyday, a man can achieve greater successes, a country can gain prosperity and the whole world can be united, as it has never been before.

a choice of tangible things. But in essence, it means choosing a way of life.Life is to be lived, savored, and enjoyed, not to be wasted or complained about.Hardly can we forget the time when our society faced the grave threat from the life-and-death disease--SARS.Yet, even during those dreadful times, some afflicted people remained optimistic.Instead of wearing neutral white masks, some people turned to colouful ones, and thus display a happy mood. And some creative people dubbed SARS to mean “SMILE AND REMAIN SMILING.” I was deeply touched by their optimisim, nearly forgetting that we're still in a battle.people who survive these kinds of circumstances,(at some point)decide in their minds to carry on in spite of the overwhelming odds.laid-off workers, typically regarded as the victims of economic advancement, are subject to desperation that being unmeployed has brought on them. But, encouragingly, we have witnessed some of them striving hard to rebuild confidence toward life and discover new opportunities for demonstrating their values.Although we cannot choose our appearance, inborn gifts and even avoid unexpected disasters and adversities, we do have the privilege to choose to live optimistcally,to love our lives, to have dreams, and to cherish hopes.Every morning when we get up, we have a choice of how we want to approach life that day.As for me, I choose to be cheerful.
