Father's Day 父親節(jié)
Father's Day falls on the third Sunday in June. The idea for creating a day for children to honor their fathers began in Spokane, Washington.A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909.
Having been raised by her father, Henry Jackson Smart, after her mother died, Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her.It was her father who made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man.Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the
first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June,1910.
In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father's Day.Roses are the Father's Day flowers: red to be worn for a living father and white if the father has died.1924年,美國總統(tǒng)加爾文·庫利奇宣布每年6月的第三個星期天為父親節(jié)。
Father's Day, contrary to popular misconception, was not established as a holiday in order to help greeting card manufacturers sell more cards. In fact, when a “father's day” was first proposed, there were no Father's Day cards!
Father's Day has become a day to not only honor your father, but all men who act as a father figure.Stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and adult male friends are all to be honored on Father's Day.

Mother's Day 母親節(jié)
The first celebrations in honor of mothers were held in spring in ancient Greece. They paid tribute to Rhea, the Mother of the Gods.During the 17th century, England honored mothers on “Mothering Sunday,” celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent.In the United States, Julia Ward Howe suggested the idea of Mother's Day in 1872.Howe saw Mother's Day as being dedicated to peace.
Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia is credited with bringing about the official observance of Mother's Day in the USA.Her campaign to establish such a holiday began as a remembrance of her mother who died in 1905 and who had, in the late 19th century, tried to establish “Mother's Friendship Days” as a way to heal the scars of the Civil War.

In 1910, West Virginia became the first state to recognize Mother's Day.A year later, nearly every state officially marked the day.In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed Mother's Day as a national holiday to be held on the second Sunday of May.1910年西弗吉尼亞成為第一個認可母親節(jié)的洲。

“shut up!” 不如來一句“oh, come on.give me a break!”
“you look fine!”當然不錯,可如果你說“ you’re in the pink!”
I get mind of you"比”I heard a lot about you.”
代問他人好當然能用"please remember me to your sister”或"please give my best wishes to your father"不過,若是很好的朋友,何不說,“please give my love to Jim。”
在中國可不能隨便說“我想你”,然而,當和西方人分手時說“I will miss you”要比說“good-bye”或“see you soon”有趣得多,不妨一試。
有人開會遲到了,你若對他說 “you are late”,聽起來象是廢話,若說“did you get lost?”,則更能讓他歉然,可別說成“get lost!”
別人征求你的意見,問能否開窗戶等,你要說“you can do that.”就有點土了,用一句“do you have the time? ”實際上,問他人的姓名,地址都可以這么用:"may I have you name?"要比"what’s your name?
別人問你不愿公開的問題,切勿用“it’s my secret, don’t ask such a personal
你可以說“I would rather not say”。
有時候,你想說什么,可說是想不起來,你可以說“well…”、“l(fā)et me see”、“just a moment ”或“it’s on the tip of my tongue”等,相比之下,最后一個句型是最地道的。
交談時,你可能會轉(zhuǎn)換話題,不要只說“by the way ”實際上,“to change the subject”、“before I forget”、“while I remember”、“mind you”都是既地道有受歡迎的表達。
用“I got it ”就順耳得多,要是不懂就說“I’m not clear about it.”不過如果你會說“It’s past my understanding”或“it’s beyond me.”

People in the United States honor their parents with two special days: Mother's Day, on the second Sunday in May, and Father's Day, on the third Sunday in June.
Mother's Day was proclaimed a day for national observance by President Woodrow Wilson in 1915.Ann Jarvis from Grafton, West Virginia, had started the idea to have a day to honor mothers. She was the one who chose the second Sunday in May and also began the custom of wearing a carnation.
In 1909, Mrs.Dodd from Spokane, Washington, thought of the idea of a day to honor fathers. She wanted to honor her own father, William Smart. After her mother died, he had the responsibility of raising a family of five sons and a daughter. In 1910, the first Father's Day was observed in Spokane.Senator Margaret Chase Smith helped to establish Father's Day as a national
These days are set aside to show love and respect for parents. They raise their children and educate them to be responsible citizens. They give love and care.
These two special days are celebrated in many different ways.On Mother's Day people wear carnations.A red one symbolizes a living mother.A white one shows that the mother is dead. Many people attend religious services to honor parents. It is also a day when people whose parents are dead visit the cemetery. On these days families get together at home, as well as in restaurants. They often have outdoor barbecues for Father's Day.These are days of fun and good feelings and memories.
Another tradition is to give cards and gifts.Children make them in school. Many people make their own presents. These are valued more than the ones bought in stores. It is not the value of the gift that is important, but it is “the thought that counts”.Greeting card stores, florists, candy makers, bakeries, telephone companies, and other stores do a lot of business during these holidays.

操作:把pike it up,check it out讀成一個單詞,一口氣說出最多次數(shù)。
不要再徘徊遲疑,Just do it!
