1.I need to go somewhere. You can go anywhere you like. I need to go somewhere.
2.I want to wash my hands. 在英語中這句話就是“I want to wash my hands.”女生說得更客氣的一句話是“I need to powder my nose.”,是很含蓄的說法。而“I want/need to go to the bathroom/restroom.”
3.I need to answer the call of nature.一種更為文雅的說法稱內急為“the call of nature”,那么上廁所就成了“to answer the call of nature.”。有時個別年紀大的女士在這種情況下還會說“I need to make a pit stop.”
4.I need to go pee. 或“I need to take a leak.”或“I need to take a dump/shit.”
正如美國人所說的那樣“If you gotta go, you gotta go.”
1.pass away
Sadly, Georgia“s uncle passed away yesterday after a short illness.
2.pass on
I”m sorry to learn that your dear mother has just passed on.
3.lose one"s life
How did he lose his life?
4.depart
Comrade Zhou Enlai finally departed from us.
5.expire
The patient expired early this morning.
6.perish
Many soldiers perish in battle.
7.go to meet one’s Maker
He knew that he came into the world with nothing and that he would go to meet his Maker with empty hands.

Father's Day 父親節
Father's Day falls on the third Sunday in June. The idea for creating a day for children to honor their fathers began in Spokane, Washington.A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909.
Having been raised by her father, Henry Jackson Smart, after her mother died, Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her.It was her father who made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man.Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the
first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June,1910.
In 1924, President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father's Day.Roses are the Father's Day flowers: red to be worn for a living father and white if the father has died.1924年,美國總統加爾文·庫利奇宣布每年6月的第三個星期天為父親節。
Father's Day, contrary to popular misconception, was not established as a holiday in order to help greeting card manufacturers sell more cards. In fact, when a “father's day” was first proposed, there were no Father's Day cards!
Father's Day has become a day to not only honor your father, but all men who act as a father figure.Stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and adult male friends are all to be honored on Father's Day.
Look your father in the eye, shake his hand and tell him that you love him. That's the best present you can give him.

Mother's Day 母親節
The first celebrations in honor of mothers were held in spring in ancient Greece. They paid tribute to Rhea, the Mother of the Gods.During the 17th century, England honored mothers on “Mothering Sunday,” celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent.In the United States, Julia Ward Howe suggested the idea of Mother's Day in 1872.Howe saw Mother's Day as being dedicated to peace.
Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia is credited with bringing about the official observance of Mother's Day in the USA.Her campaign to establish such a holiday began as a remembrance of her mother who died in 1905 and who had, in the late 19th century, tried to establish “Mother's Friendship Days” as a way to heal the scars of the Civil War.
In 1910, West Virginia became the first state to recognize Mother's Day.A year later, nearly every state officially marked the day.In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed Mother's Day as a national holiday to be held on the second Sunday of May.1910年西弗吉尼亞成為第一個認可母親節的洲。
Today many celebrations of Mother's Days are held throughout the world.Although they do not all fall at the same time, such countries as Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia and Belgium also celebrate Mother's Day on the same day as the United States.
Don't forget Mother's Day.Make your Mom breakfast in bed, buy her a bunch of flowers and some chocolates and, most importantly, tell her how much you love and respect her.

● Pass the water.(不禮貌)● Pass the water, please.(使對方容易接受。)
● Would you pass the water?(試探受話人是否樂意)
● Could your possibly pass the water?(詢問受話人是否有做某事的可能性,很客氣)
● I would be extremely grateful if your would pass the water.(假設語氣陳述句,很有禮貌)● I wonder if you would be good enough to pass the water.(假設語氣,很委婉)
● O.K.●(Yes,)certainly.● Yes, by all means.● Of course.I'll be only too pleased to. No, I'm afraid I can't;Well, I'd love to, but actually, I'm afraid I can't at present because...;I wish I could, but...;I'd love to, but...;I'd be glad to, but...;I'm afraid not,...;It's very kind of you to say, but...;I'd like to..., but...,etc.
● A: We plan to go to the beach after class, want to come?
B: I'd love to, but Pro.Jones wants to speak with me.● A: It never fails, It's raining hard outside and I'm stuck without an umbrella.B: I'd like to let you have mine, but I have to go out soon.● A: Will you go to the movies with me tonight? B: I'd love to, but I've caught a cold.● A: Could you possibly do me a favor?
B: Sure, What is it?
A: I've got a problem.I have to fix my table and I don't have a hammer.Could I possibly borrow yours?
B: I'm sorry.I'm afraid I don't have one.A: Oh.Do you know anybody who does?
B: Yes.You should call Charlie.I'm sure he'll be happy to lend you his.A: Thank you.I'll call him right away.● A: It's such a fine day, shall we go to the park for a walk?
B: I'd like to join you, but I find it chilly to walk outside in spite of the sun.
● You ought to type this paper.(有強加于人的意向)
● You really should slow down at your office.● You'd better tell him the truth.● I'd advise you to take a vacation.● You should take your parents' advice, they know what's best for you.● If I were you , I'd buy another car without hesitation.(含蓄地達到勸告目的)
● I suggest you go for some advice.(不夠禮貌,用于熟悉的人)
● I would suggest starting the work at once.(較委婉)
● You can read the novel now if you like.(給人選擇余地,較客氣)
● You could/might have a look at the novel.(客氣)
● Why not call me next weekend?(有禮貌的建議)
● Why don't you find a decent job?(同 5))
● Can /may/Could/might I suggest that...?(使受話人容易接受)
● It would be better if you copy that again.(假設條件句,容易使人接受)
● I wonder if I might make the suggestion that...(用在正式場合,比如外交家的審慎的辭令風格)如何利用某些時態婉轉地表達自己種種想法
● A: Did you want me?
B: Yes, I wondered if you could give me some help.● It's time you had a holiday.● I wish you lived closer to us.● If only you lent your book to me.● I'm hoping you'll give us some advice.● I'm wondering if I may have a word with you.● I was wondering /wondered if you'd like to come out with me one evening.● I was hoping / hoped you could send me some books.
I was wondering whether you could help me do something on our wedding.這是一句非常禮貌的話,比“ Could you help me do something on our wedding?"
● She might have missed the train.(既是虛擬語氣,也表委婉)。
● We might all have been indulging in an illusion.● It might be an idea to try this one again.● I would suggest you copied this out again.● Sally couldn't love him.● It would be better if you wrote in ink..● You'd(You had)better be careful next time.● I'd rather you finished this off before Friday.● I'd rather you didn't look at the answer or ask others for help.● This handbag could be Mary's.● A: Could/might I smoke here?
B: Yes, of course you can./No, I'm afraid not.● Should I turn off the light?
● What should we do next?
● I should say he is just the right man for this job.● I should think your approach is correct.● I don't think he would be so absent- minded.● It would be a pity to stop our work half- way.● Would you like to stay here for the night?
● What would you advise me to do?
● If I had a chance, I'd major in economics.● It's a pity if they should be so obstinate
● I wouldn't go there unless they should force me to go.● We would reduce our price rather than lose the business.
● Can you tell me how to get to the library?
Could you tell me how to get to the library?(更委婉)
● Will you please come and help me make up the missing class?
Would you please come and help me make up the missing class?(更委婉)
“ Your son is dead.Maybe it’s a mistake.Everybody makes a mistake, Mrs.Sandoval.Maybe it wasn’ t your son.Maybe it was somebody else. The telegram says it was Juan Domingo. But maybe the telegram is wrong.”
