看圖作文要求考生將畫面所包含的有效信息直接運用英語思維轉換成英語語言文字，再根據這些要點謀篇布局。要求考生把看到的圖畫用文字表達出來，除了能表達清楚圖畫中的信息外，考生還需要根據詞數要求，適當拓展并發揮想象，從而使文章的敘述不單調。如果是記敘文類的寫作素材，考生要注意故事的時間、地點、人物、事件的起因、過程、結果這六個要素。
