Seven years ago tomorrow, I read my own political obituary in a judgment that seemed to me harsh and mistaken ¨ if not premature.But that unwelcome verdict also brought a precious if painful gift: an opportunity to search for fresh new ways to serve my purpose.Unexpectedly, that quest has brought me here.Even though I fear my words cannot match this moment, I pray what I am feeling in my heart will be communicated clearly enough that those who hear me will say, “We must act.”

So today, we dumped another 70 million tons of global-warming pollution into the thin shell of atmosphere surrounding our planet, as if it were an open sewer.And tomorrow, we will dump a slightly larger amount, with the cumulative concentrations now trapping more and more heat from the sun.所以今天我們將7千萬噸溫室氣體排放到大氣層之中，這一層包裹地球的薄薄的大氣層被我們當成了公共下水道。明天我們會排放比現在更多的溫室氣體到大氣層中，溫室集體在大氣中越聚越大，截留了越來越多的太陽光中的能量。

Indeed, without realizing it, we have begun to wage war on the earth itself.Now, we and the earth's climate are locked in a relationship familiar to war planners: “Mutually assured destruction.”

There is an African proverb that says, “If you want to go quickly, go alone.If you want to go far, go together.” We need to go far, quickly.有一句來自非洲的諺語說：“同行行遠，獨行行速”，我們既要行遠也要行速。When we unite for a moral purpose that is manifestly good and true, the spiritual energy unleashed can transform us.The generation that defeated fascism throughout the world in the 1940s found, in rising to meet their awesome challenge, that they had gained the moral authority and long-term vision to launch the Marshall Plan, the United Nations, and a new level of global cooperation and foresight that unified Europe and facilitated the emergence of democracy and prosperity in Germany, Japan, Italy and much of the world.One of their visionary leaders said, “It is time we steered by the stars and not by the lights of every passing ship.”

Just as Hull's generation found moral authority in rising to solve the world crisis caused by fascism, so can we find our greatest opportunity in rising to solve the climate crisis.In the Kanji characters used in both Chinese and Japanese, “crisis” is written with two symbols, the first meaning “danger,” the second “opportunity.” By facing and removing the danger of the climate crisis, we have the opportunity to gain the moral authority and vision to vastly increase our own capacity to solve other crises that have been too long ignored.We must understand the connections between the climate crisis and the afflictions of poverty, hunger, HIV-Aids and other pandemics.As these problems are linked, so too must be their solutions.We must begin by making the common rescue of the global environment the central organizing principle of the world community.正如Cordell Hull的那一代人面對法西斯納粹的威脅，而不畏兇險的努力奮斗，同樣我們也應該以同樣的勇氣和決心來應對這場氣候危機。在中國和日本使用的漢字中“危機”這個詞有兩個漢字來組成，一個是危險的意思，另一個則是機遇的意思。面對和解決這場氣候危機的威脅，我們可以獲得更大的道德權威和遠見卓識來解決其他的人類長期面臨卻一直被拖延的危機與問題。我們必須認識到氣候危機與人類貧困的蔓延，饑荒和艾滋病的肆虐等等其他災難的連接。這些災難和問題都是互相聯系的，我們的解決方法也必須互相結合。我們必須將團結一致拯救全球環境作為人類社會的最高組織原則。

The outcome will be decisively influenced by two nations that are now failing to do enough: the United States and China.While India is also growing fast in importance, it should be absolutely clear that it is the two largest CO2 emitters ¨C most of all, my own country ¨C that will need to make the boldest moves, or stand accountable before history for their failure to act.但是這場全球合作的結果制約于兩個國家：美國和中國，這兩個國家的影響至關重要，但是又都做的遠遠不夠。印度的重要性也是越來越凸顯出來。我們必須清醒的認識到，現在這兩個全球最大的Co2排放國必須采取最勇敢的措施或者必將為他們的錯誤行為來站在歷史的審判臺上承擔責任。指其中最重要的就是我的祖國：美國。

Both countries should stop using the other's behavior as an excuse for stalemate and instead develop an agenda for mutual survival in a shared global environment.這兩個國家應該不再使用對方的行為，作為自己不作為的借口，來制造僵局，而應當為了全球環境下的共同生存而共同商議對策。

just defeated him for the presidency, Partisan feeling must yield to patriotism.I'm withyou, Mr.President, and God bless you.Well, in that same spirit, I say to President-elect Bush that what remains of partisanrancor must now be put aside, and may God bless his stewardship of this country.Neither he nor I anticipated this long and difficult road.Certainly neither of us wantedit to happen.Yet it came, and now it has ended, resolved, as it must be resolved, through the

honored institutions of our democracy.Over the library of one of our great law schools is inscribed the motto, Not under manbut under God and law.That's the ruling principle of American freedom, the source of our

democratic liberties.I've tried to make it my guide throughout this contest as it has guided

我國一所法律學院的圖書館上鐫刻著這樣的一句格言:“聽命于法與主,而非聽命于人”。這是美國自由的核心原則,也是民主自由之濫觴。在投票日之后的五個星期里,我以此為鑒,這也是美國獨立以來所有復雜事件的引鑒。

現在,美國最高法院終于做出了決定。讓我說得清楚一點,在我極為不同意的同時,我接受了最高法院的決定。我接受了最終的結果,下星期一，這個結果會在選舉人團會議上得到確認。今天晚上,為了國人的團結和美國民主,我認輸了。

也有人擔心,這次選舉凸顯的反常狀況,勢必影響新一任總統的施政舉措。我不相信那是勢所必然。

long and difficult road.Certainly neither of us wanted it to happen.Yet it came and now it has ended resolved as it must be resolved through the honored institutions of our democracy.over the library of one of our great law schools is inscribed the motto “not under man but under god and law.”that’s the ruling principle of american freedom the source of our democratic liberties.I’ve tried to make it my guide throughout this contest as it has guided america’s deliberations of all the complex issues of the past five weeks.now the u.s supreme court has spoken.Let there be no doubt while i strongly disagree with the court's decision i accept it.I accept the finality of this outcome which will be ratified next monday in the electoral college and tonight for the sake of our unity as a
