南灣猴島位于海南省陵水縣南約14公里的南灣半島，三面環海，是我國也是世界上唯一的島嶼型獼猴自然保護區。島上除了有熱帶植物近400種，動物近百種，原始的自然環境和2500多只國家二類保護動物獼猴外，因此人們稱之為“猴島”。

南灣猴島四季綠樹蔥蔥，風光秀麗迷人，最具海南特色的潔凈迷人的沙灘，嫵媚多姿的椰樹，白浪翻揚的天然海濱浴場，色彩斑斕的珊瑚礁群；素有“海上街市”之稱的漁排風情，古陵水“八景之一”。

南灣半島因獼猴種類獨特，種群眾多被列為省級自然保護區。現有獼猴29群2000多只。

南灣猴島的獼猴為國家Ⅱ級保護動物，是我國常見的一種猴類。生理上與人類非常接近，適應性廣，生命力頑強，易馴養。獼猴系半樹棲生活種類，多棲息于石山峭壁、溪旁溝谷和江河岸

南灣猴島景區總面積為10.2平方公里，長14公里，最寬處僅1公里，平均海拔150米。
