Doyle said that the character of Sherlock Holmes was inspired by Dr.Joseph Bell, for whom Doyle had worked as a clerk at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.Like Holmes, Bell was noted for drawing large conclusions from the smallest

賈誼（前200～前168），世稱賈太傅、賈長沙、賈生。洛陽（今河南洛陽東）人。西漢初期的政論家、文學家。年少即以育詩屬文聞于世人。后見用于文帝，力主改革，被貶。改任梁懷王太傅。梁懷王墮馬而死，自傷無狀，憂憤而死。主要文學成就是政論文，著有《新書》十卷。代表作有《過秦論》上、中、下三篇，《陳政事疏》（亦名《治安策》），《論積貯疏》等。《過秦論》總結了秦代興亡的教訓，實則昭漢之過。《陳政事疏》和《論積貯疏》是批評時政之作，提出用“眾諸侯而少其力”的辦法，鞏固中央集權制。要“驅民而歸之農”，鞏固政權。其文說理透辟，邏輯嚴密，氣勢洶涌，詞句鏗鏘有力，對后代散文影響很大。
