The Old Man and the Sea is a novel written by Ernest Hemingway, an American novelist.The story is set in the 20th century after World War II, which is based on the novel written true story Hemingway himself has experienced.Exactly, it’s a story of an epic struggle between an old, seasoned fisherman and the greatest catch of his life.Leading character Santiago, an aged Cuban fisherman, has set out to sea and returned empty-handed.At first 84 days, he did not even fish one fish.He did not have enough food, and many locals to doubt his fishing technique.Some even laugh at him.So, He decided to go to the sea to fish food and proved that he is a skilled fisherman.On the eight-fifth day of his unlucky streak, Santiago does as promised, sailing his skiff far beyond the island’s shallow coastal waters and venturing into the Gulf Stream.At noon, a big fish, marlin, take the bait that Santiago has placed before.Although the old man expertly hooks the fish, but he cannot pull it in.Instead, the fish begins to pull the boat.He knows perfectly well very difficult to win, but still did not give up.Since then, they began their three-day fighting.The entire time, Santiago, endures constant pain from the fishing line.Eventually, the third day, the fish tires, and Santiago manages to pull the marlin in close enough to kill it with a harpoon thrust.However, things do not go smoothly as he expected.On his way home, he is attacked buy several crowds of shark.Although he kills the sharks in the end, they have devoured the marlin’s precious meat, leaving only skeleton.The old man arrives home before daybreak, and sleeps very deeply.Later on, the old man wakes up and finds the little boy Mandolin staying with him, and decides to go to sea to fish again.In fact, the story contains many different symbols and themes.By reading this book, I was deeply impressed by the old man and what he said “a man can be destroyed but not defeated.” Santiago, though destroyed at the end of the novella, is never defeated.Instead, he emerges as a hero.Santiago’s struggle does not enable him to change man’s place in the world.But the struggle somehow enables him to meet his most dignified destiny.The old man sets a good example for us.He teachers us that we should fight and never lose faith, never give up.No matter how hard the life is, it’s possible for us to overcome the difficulties.

Hemingway ,who was born in America.Hemingway went through a quite rough life.He experienced two wars.The wars brought lots of honor to him, followed by 237 scars of wounds and frightening memories which can never be driven away.As far back as 1939, Hemingway began to prepare for the novel.But in fact, the novel was not be published until 1952.“A man is not made for defeat.” “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”After reading the book The Old Man and The Sea , my brain is filled with these two
sentences.Santiago is a true man who taught me to face difficulties bravely and to be confident in my life.The Old Man and the SEA is a story that a old fisherman, Santiago, did not catch any fish in 84 days.At first, a boy named Manolin used to go fishing with Santiago.But after 40 days without any fish ,his parents arranged the boy to go to another boat, because they thought it would unlucky to let the boy stay with the old man.However, in the eighty fifth day ,the old man rowed the boat far away in the early morning ,and to his surprise, he caught a marlin which was bigger than the boat.The old man struggled with the big marlin in the following two days, and finally speared it.However, the injured fish left a trace with blood, leading hundreds sharks to
battle.The old man tried his best to fight with sharks, but when he arrived at
harbor ,the old man fell down exhaustedly ,only to find there was just a huge fishbone left.The boy came to visit the old man and he believed the old man was not a loser.He told the old man "He did not beat you.Not the fish.That afternoon, the old man slept.He met a lion in his dream.In the story, Santiago is the symbol of those who will never give in to the
difficulties no matter how hard they are.The sharks stands for some resistance, even disasters.Santiago showed his optimism.Even if he just caught a fish born, he still a winner in spirit.After reading the novel, we can understand what is true brave.We may meet
various of difficulties and challenges in our life.Facing to them, what should we do? Santiago has given us a powerful answer.I think the old man is the lion in his dream __a lion that will never give up ,no matter what difficulties he met.Never give up__ that'swhat The Old Man and the Sea told us.

內(nèi)容梗概:
風(fēng)燭殘年的老漁夫圣地亞哥一連八十四天都沒有釣到一條魚,幾乎快餓死但他仍然不肯認(rèn)輸,而充滿斗志,他的希望和自信從未消失。終于在第八十五天釣到一條身長十八尺,體重一千五百磅的大魚。大魚拖著船往海里走,老人頑強(qiáng)地和大魚搏斗,左手抽筋,頭暈眼花,經(jīng)過兩天兩夜后,他終于殺死大魚,把它拴在船邊。但反途中卻遭到很多鯊魚攻擊,老漁夫并不畏懼,誓死守衛(wèi)自己的戰(zhàn)果,又一個個殺死了鯊魚,最后只剩下了一支折斷的舵柄作為武器。結(jié)果受到一群鯊魚的攻擊,老人無力應(yīng)對,大魚仍難逃脫被吃光的命運,最后老人筋疲力盡地拖回一副魚骨架。
讀書心得:
讀完《老人與海》我感觸很深,腦海中老人在茫茫大海中與大魚作斗爭的畫面揮之不去,老人的樂觀堅強(qiáng),不懼困難的精神讓我敬佩,讓我折服。我挑選自己體會比較深的幾個方面寫了自己的讀書心得,記錄此刻的感悟。
一、孩子的支持與關(guān)懷
小說主人公是一位年邁體衰瘦骨嶙峋的老漁夫圣地亞哥,陪伴他左右的是一個從五歲就跟隨他的小男孩,老人時運不濟(jì)接連四十天沒有捕到魚,男孩不得已在父母安排下上了另外一條船,跟隨別人打魚。男孩對老人充滿崇敬與愛戴,他沒有從此拋棄老人,五歲時跟隨老人打魚,魚差點把船撞碎,他與老人海上共患難的場景始終不曾忘記,男孩的善良讓我感動,“只要我活著你就絕不會不吃飯就去打魚”,他給忍饑挨餓的老人拿來飯菜,并細(xì)心帶來刀叉和湯匙,用餐巾紙包著。還為自己粗心大意沒有想到給老人帶肥皂和干凈的毛巾而懊惱,并想再給老人弄件襯衫、夾克衫、鞋子和毯子來讓他過冬,男孩一直照顧關(guān)懷著老人。他不僅給予老人物質(zhì)上的關(guān)懷,還給了老人極大的心靈安慰,他一直相信老人,一直支持老人,認(rèn)為老人是最好的漁夫,男孩始終相信他們能捕到大魚。男孩的支持也多多少少給了老人勇氣與信心,老人在與大魚作斗爭的過程中時時念叨“要是那孩子在就好了”,男孩是老人的精神支柱之一。
老人也曾風(fēng)光過,英雄遲暮,也許有人會譏笑諷刺,有人會同情,有人會忘記你曾經(jīng)的光輝,只知道你現(xiàn)在的落魄,但有那么一個人,默默地陪伴你,支持你,相信你,是幸運的。我們在生活中也要盡可能的給予他人鼓勵支持,一句鼓勵的話,也許很簡短,卻可能給別人帶來無盡的力量。
二、機(jī)遇只給有準(zhǔn)備的人
老人第八十五天出海打魚他把釣索垂得比任何人更直,別的漁夫讓釣索隨著海流漂去,他總是把它們精確地放在適當(dāng)?shù)牡胤健Uf不定今天就轉(zhuǎn)運了,每一天都是一個新的日子,他情愿做到分毫不差。這樣,運氣來的時候,就有所準(zhǔn)備了。
機(jī)遇只給有準(zhǔn)備的人,老人一絲不茍的做好工作,不因為之前沒有收獲而懈怠松散,即使每天的工作是重復(fù)的,是無趣的。老人時刻準(zhǔn)備著能夠捕到大魚,好運也光顧了他。
三、老漁夫——永不認(rèn)輸?shù)臉酚^主義精神。
不因他人的嘲諷而懷疑自己。老人接連八十四天沒有收獲,不少漁夫拿老人開玩笑,老人并不生氣。另外一些上了些年紀(jì)的漁夫望著他,感到難受。但老人的希望和自信從未消失,他愉快而不肯認(rèn)輸。人生路上我們應(yīng)堅持自己的夢想,不因別人的輕視嘲笑而放棄,不因條件的惡劣不利而認(rèn)輸,相信自己,堅信通過努力一定可以實現(xiàn)自己的夢想。

一. 作者簡介 歐內(nèi)斯特·米勒爾·海明威(1899—1961),美國小說家。1899年7月21日,海明威出生在美國伊利諾伊州芝加哥郊外橡樹園鎮(zhèn)一個醫(yī)生的家庭。他的父親酷愛打獵、釣魚等戶外活動,他的母親喜愛文學(xué),這一切都對海明威日后的生活和創(chuàng)作產(chǎn)生了不少的影響。中學(xué)畢業(yè)后,海明威在美國西南的堪薩斯《星報》當(dāng)了6個月的實習(xí)記者。這家報館要求新聞報道簡捷明快。海明威在《星報》受到了良好的訓(xùn)練。他對創(chuàng)作懷著濃厚的興趣,一面當(dāng)記者,一面寫小說。他的創(chuàng)作得到當(dāng)時著名小說家的鼓勵和指點。他的一生非常的坎坷,經(jīng)歷過兩次世界戰(zhàn)爭。戰(zhàn)爭讓他得到榮譽(yù),伴隨榮譽(yù)的是他身上237處的傷痕和趕不走的惡魔般的戰(zhàn)爭記憶。因為這些不尋常的經(jīng)歷,他創(chuàng)作出許多經(jīng)典的作品,《太陽照樣升起》、《永別了,武器》、《非洲的青山》、《乞力馬扎羅山的雪》等。其中《老人與海》榮獲了諾貝爾文學(xué)獎和普利策獎。這部小說創(chuàng)下了人類出版史上空前絕后的一個紀(jì)錄:48小時售出500萬冊,50小時售出530萬冊!當(dāng)他被宣布為當(dāng)年的普利策文學(xué)獎得主時,評論界一致稱好。海明威自己認(rèn)為 “是這一輩子所能寫的最好的一部作品”。1961年7月2日,蜚聲世界文壇的海明威用自己的獵槍結(jié)束了自己的生命。整個世界都為此震驚,人們紛紛嘆息這位巨人的悲劇。美國人民更是悲悼這位美國重要作家的隕落。
