“不勝其煩”的禮貌用語中國是個一個禮儀之邦,悠久的歷史文明造就了中國人熱情、友善、彬彬有禮的傳統。在國際貿易交往中,同樣十分講究禮節,函電中常常使用到禮貌用語。禮貌用語主要是要表達對對方尊重和禮貌,而將信息傳遞的功能退居其次。對于初次接受商務英語函電翻譯的人來說,不勝其煩的禮貌用語似乎有些多余。但實際上,如果掌握了禮貌用語的翻譯規律就能很輕松的完成翻譯了,并對函電翻譯的整體架構有所幫助。例如,以表達感謝內容為主的函電是商務活動中較為常見的一種函電格式。這種函電的開頭禮貌就有十余種之多,主要有以下幾種:Thank you for your letter of...(謝謝貴公司的來函...)We receive with thanks your letter of(我公司收到貴公司感謝函...)We are obliged to receive your letter of...(我公司有責任在到貴公司函...)We appreciate your letter of...(我公司感謝貴公司的函...)We are very much pleased
/glad to receive your letter o f...(我公司非常高興/高興收到貴公司的函...)We have received with pleasure your letter of...(我公司高興地收到貴公司的函)再如:We will appreciate your effecting immediate shipment.(如蒙貴公司盡快完成裝運,我公司將不勝感激。)We will be obliged if you could quote US a favorable price。(貴公司如能報給我公司優惠價格,我公司將十分感謝。)此外,在商務活動中,當對方沒有滿足自己的要求或無意與對方合作時,禮貌用語能夠委婉地表達出拒絕的意思,常常起到以柔克剛的作用。因此,在翻譯時,譯者要講求一定的策略,盡量把原文中強硬唐突的詞句翻譯為婉轉、有禮貌的英文。例如:We regret that we are not in a position to accept your offer.(我公司無法接受貴公司報盤,請見諒。)We regret to inform you that we are not in a position to supply you with such large demands.(我公司現在不能供應如此大量的需求,甚歉。
