互聯網(Internet)發展現狀:

1995年以來，互聯網用戶數量呈指數增長趨勢，平均每半年翻一番。截止到2002年5月，全球已經有5億8千多萬用戶。其中，北美1.82億，亞太1.68億。截止到2001年7月，全球連接的計算機數量約1.26億臺。互聯網還在以超過摩爾定律的速度發展。有人預計，全球互聯網的用戶數量2005年將達到13億，2010年將達到22億。

1995年10月24日，“聯合網絡委員會”通過了一項有關決議：將“互聯網”定義為全球性的信息系統——

1.通過全球性的唯一的地址邏輯地鏈接在一起。這個地址是建立在互聯網協議(IP)或今后其他協議基礎之上的。

2.可以通過傳輸控制協議和互聯協議(TCP/IP)，或者今后其他接替的協議或與互聯協議(IP)兼容的協議來進行通信。

3.可以讓公共用戶或者私人用戶使用高水平的服務。這種服務是建立在上述通信及相關的基礎設施之上的。

實際上由于互聯網是劃時代的，它不是為某一種需求設計的，而是一種可以接受任何新的需求的總的基礎結構。你也可以從社會、政治、文化、經濟、軍事等各個層面去解釋理解其意義和價值。

或者說Internet是一項正在向縱深發展的技術，是人類進入網絡文明階段或信息社會的標志。對Internet將來的發展給以準確的描述是十分困難的。但目前的情形使互聯網早已突破了技術的范疇，正在成為人類向信息文明邁進的紐帶和載體。

總之Internet是我們今后生存和發展的基礎設施，它直接影響著我們的生活方式。互聯網的業務經營模式和種類很多，但相對來說形成比較完整的業務價值鏈主要有以下幾個：傳統業務的接入服務，它由電信運營商提供業務；網絡游戲，由網絡游戲服務提供商、游戲運營商、電信運營商一連串的服務商形成價值鏈；短信業務，通過ICP、服務提供商和網絡運營商包括移動服務提供商、即時通信、網絡廣告、網絡搜索等業務形成了比較完整的價值鏈。同時我們看到還有其它一些業務盡管開展得如火如荼、熱火朝天，但是因為價值鏈不完整，或者因為在價值鏈形成過程當中市場的價值觀念有很大的二異性，導致這些業務沒有形成對網絡產業自身的強有力的支撐，還沒有為網絡的從業者帶來很大的利益。
