湖南第一師范學院，其前身為南宋時期張栻創辦的長沙城南書院，1903年始立為湖南師范館。1912年和1914年相繼改為湖南公立第一師范學校和湖南省立第一師范學校，解放后更名為湖南省第一師范學校。2000年升格為普通高等專科學校。2008年升格為普通高等本科院校，并更為現名。
