Having read a play named A Midsummer Night Dreamwhich was one of Shakespeare’s earlier plays, I gained a lot of significant matters.Fairies, dreams and lovers are the three main elements.From the beginning, there was a tough triangle love among lovers, the kind King in order to keep them from endless distress, he sent his fairy to pick up a purple peculiar juice and dropped it into lovers’ eyes thatthey will fall in love with anyone they first see.However, things getting worse and worse resulted from the careless fairy mistaking with two hostile men.Experienced ups and downs, all of lovers found their real mate.All the sad ,complex and odd memories changed into a dream, the same dream in lovers’ mind.Furthermore, the duke in the play was a nice person , he didn’t look down upon the poor instead of “enjoying the simple language of unintelligent people”, and he allowed lovers to hold weddings together.As far as I am concerned, I love this fairy tale presented by Shakespeare.Every word is in the expectation of sweet , perfect love.Meanwhile , their world was not a matter of fact , but there really existed a big distinction between their world and ours ? Should we learn something useful from that ?I think so.

It’s just a midsummer night’s dream

Once I attended a speech given by a professor from a university in Hong Kong.When we introduced ourselves as BE majors, he asked, “You study English, how many foreign classics have you read? Who is your favorite author?” We all were in silence.But by that time, I made a decision that I would read Shakespeare at least while I am still in university.And the first book I chose myself is A Midsummer Night’s Dream.For Shakespeare, his tragic works may be more famous than comedies.But I prefer comedy.The moment I opened A Midsummer Night’s Dream, I thought it’s a tragedy.But it seems that all happiness come after sadness.As Yu Qiu Yu once said, “Tragedy is not great, neither is comedy, but those tragicomedy that let people read it over with tears and laughter.A Midsummer Night’s Dream is believed to have been written between 1590 and 1596.It portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta.These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors, who are manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set.I found some common points among Shakespeare’s masterpieces, especially his love stories——the protagonists rebel against the traditional established practices and they look forward to a peaceful and equitable world;they even sacrifice their lives to achieve this dream.Hermia dose so.She refuses to follow her father Egeus’s instructions to marry Demetrius, whom he has chosen for her.Juliet and Romeo also do in the same way, they die together for their love.I guess why Shakespeare wrote like this is that he wanted to do the same thing just like the people he modeled.We all know he had to marry a woman he didn’t like at all, and he didn’t protest.So he modeled these characters on purpose to let them resisted the ruin of society.The more I read, the greater I think Shakespeare is.If this play had been divided

to 10 chapters, I bet you can’t predict what the ending will be.He created the magical juice from a flower called “love in idleness”, which when applied to a person’s eyelids while sleeping makes the victim fall in love with the first living thing seen upon awakening, to make these characters within his grasp.If someday people’s sentiment is controlled by this kind of magical juice, it will be really terrible.Emotions are subjective things, there will be on difference between mankind and machine if our emotion are controlled.This situation can just exist in Shakespeare’s masterpieces.It’s an imagination of us.But finally, Shakespeare made the most beautiful marriages in the world.Shakespeare’s play is really a cultural peak.A Midsummer Night’s Dream explains the essence of tragicomedy.Lovers are ruthless separated and recombined mistakenly.These lovers are likely to be in an endless dream, but they can’t remember anything when they wake up, except the tears on the canthus.If delight can be compared to Qomolangma, then sorrow is the deepest oceanic trench——Marianas Trench.We can feel a big shock when read this play.We cried but finally laughed.It’s just a midsummer night’s dream.

A Midsummer Night's Dream(仲夏夜之夢)is a romantic comedy by William Shakespeare written sometime in the 1590s.It portrays the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors in a moonlit forest, and their interactions with the fairies who inhabit it and Duke of the Athenians.The play is one of Shakespeare's most popular and is widely performed across the world.The play features three interlocking plots, connected by a celebration of the wedding of Duke Theseus of Athens and the Amazonian queen Hippolyta.In the opening scene, Hermia refuses to comply with her father Egeus's wish for her to marry his chosen man, Demetrius.In response, Egeus quotes before Theseus an ancient Athenian law whereby a daughter must marry the suitor chosen by her father, or else face death or lifelong chastity worshipping Diana as a nun.The word in this sense is an anachronism.Hermia and her lover Lysander therefore decide to elope by escaping through the forest at night.Hermia informs her best friend Helena, but Helena has recently been rejected by Demetrius and decides to win back his favor by revealing the plan to him.Demetrius, followed doggedly by Helena, chases Hermia, who, in turn, chases Lysander, from whom she becomes separated.Meanwhile, Oberon, king of the fairies, and his queen, Titania, arrive in the same forest to attend Theseus and Hippolyta's wedding.Oberon and Titania are estranged because Titania refuses to give her Indian page-boy to Oberon for use as his “knight” or “henchman,” since the child's mother was one of Titania's worshippers.Oberon seeks to punish Titania's disobedience and recruits the mischievous Puck(also called Hobgoblin and Robin Goodfellow)to help him apply a magical juice from a flower called “love-in-idleness,” which makes the victim fall in love with the first living thing he sees when he awakens.Oberon applies the juice to Titania in order to distract her and force her to give up the page-boy.Having seen Demetrius act cruelly toward Helena, Oberon orders Puck to spread some of the juice on the eyelids of the young Athenian man.Instead, Puck puts the juice on the eyes of Lysander, who then falls in love with Helena.When Oberon finds this out, he makes Puck apply the juice to Demetrius.Due to Puck's errors, Hermia's two lovers temporarily turn against her in favor of Helena.Helena, however, is convinced that her two suitors are mocking her, as neither loved her originally.The four pursue and quarrel with each other all night, losing themselves in the dark and in the maze of their romantic entanglements.Meanwhile, a band of “rude mechanicals”(lower-class labourers)have arranged to perform a crude play about Pyramus and Thisbe for Theseus' wedding, and venture into the forest, near Titania's bower, for their rehearsal.Nick Bottom, a stage-struck weaver, is spotted by Puck, who transforms his head into that of an ass(donkey).Titania is awoken by Bottom's singing, and she immediately falls in love with him.She treats him as if he is a nobleman and lavishes attention upon him.While in this state of devotion, she encounters Oberon and casually gives him the Indian boy.Having achieved his goals, Oberon releases Titania and orders Puck to remove the ass's head from Bottom.The magical enchantment is removed from Lysander but is allowed to remain on Demetrius, so that he may reciprocate Helena's love.The fairies then disappear, and Theseus and Hippolyta arrive on the scene, during an early morning hunt.They wake the lovers and, since Demetrius doesn't love Hermia anymore, Theseus over-rules Egeus's demands and arranges a group wedding.The lovers decide that the night's events must have been a dream.After they all exit, Bottom awakes, and he too decides that he must have experienced a dream “past the wit of man.”

In Athens, Theseus, Hippolyta and the lovers watch the mechanicals perform “Pyramus and Thisbe.” It is ridiculous and badly performed but gives everyone pleasure regardless, and after the mechanicals dance a Bergomask(rustic dance), everyone retires to bed.Finally, as night falls, Oberon and Titania bless the house, its occupants, and the future children of the newlyweds, and Puck delivers an epilogue to the audience asking for applause

旁白:These people ,at no great distance from each other,sleeping on grass-plot.(此時，他們四人正睡在相距不遠的草地上??)[此時天已經亮了，大家也都醒了過來]

Hermia: Oh!Lysander, the doings of the night are too strange!Do you still love me or not?

赫米婭： 噢！萊賽德，今晚真奇怪！你還愛不愛我？

Lysander: I am still crazy about you!But I dreamed I love Helena ……how mad!萊賽德：我依然愛你的！但我夢到我愛上海倫娜，多麼瘋狂！Hermia: I had the same dream!

赫米婭：哎！我做了同樣的夢！

Helena: Me, too.Now I just wonder if Demetrious love me as in the dream? 海倫娜：我也是，現在，我只想知道狄米崔斯是否還像夢中那樣的愛著我？ Demetrious: Honey, Don’t worry.I’m yours.狄米崔斯：親愛的，不用擔心，我已屬于你。Hermia: Oh!Here comes my father!赫米婭：噢，我父親來了。

Egeus: You!You dare to get far away!I’ll beg the law upon your head!Demetrious, I’m so sorry!伊吉斯：你，你竟敢逃離！我將要求依法懲辦你！狄米崔斯，真抱歉！

Demetrious: Don’t say that.Now the lady I want to marry is Helena.狄米崔斯：

別這么說，現在我想娶的是海倫娜。Egeus: Is it true? 伊吉斯：是真的嗎？

Lysander: Yes, it is.Please, please let Hermia marry me too, I’ll bring her happiness, I swear.萊賽德： 是的。也請把荷米亞嫁給我吧，我會帶給她快樂的，我保證。

Hermia: Oh!Dad!Please, he is really a perfect guy.赫米婭：喔，爸爸！請答應吧，他真的是個完美的人。

劇情簡介：

《仲夏夜之夢》是莎士比亞青春時代最后一部也是最為成熟、最著名的喜劇作品。戲劇情調輕松，總的來說是一個“亂點鴛鴦譜”的故事。劇中有穿插了小鬧劇當作笑料，這部戲劇所包含的，只是純凈的快樂，仿佛是戲劇的狂歡，掠過一絲愛情所固有的煩惱。本劇講述了由“魔液”引起的沖突及沖突被解決、有情人終成眷屬的故事。有兩個男青年萊賽德（Lysander）、狄米崔斯（Demetrious）同時愛上了女青年赫米婭（Hermia），而赫米婭戀著萊賽德，她的好友海倫娜（Helena）又戀著狄米崔斯。赫米婭為了反對包辦婚姻和情人私奔，來到約定好的森林里。海倫娜將這一消息告訴了狄米崔斯，二人也跟著趕到了森林里。仙界的精靈王聽說有一種神奇的魔液。，便派小精靈帕克（Puck）去取來魔液（西方一朵純潔的白色小花因為誤中了丘比特的愛情之箭，受創傷后而流出的汁液）。這種魔液有這樣的魔力：如果它滴在睡者的人的眼皮上，無論男女，醒來第一眼看見的生物，就都會發瘋似的愛上它。

因為魔液的出現，整個故事發生了戲劇性的變化。魔液滴在睡著的萊賽德的眼皮上，他醒來時一眼看見的是誤闖進來的海倫娜，因此而“移情別戀”，對海倫娜大獻殷勤，這讓可憐的赫米婭傷心萬分；而狄米崔斯醒來時一眼看見的恰是被精靈引來的赫米婭，因而“舊情復燃”，這讓可憐的赫米婭苦惱萬分。兩個同樣美麗、善良的女孩如今一個被悲傷逼得要發瘋、一個被驚喜沖昏了頭腦，于是開始惡意地揣測甚至中傷起對方。而另外兩個癡情的熱血青年又在憤怒中為海倫娜而決斗。此刻我們發現這四個人分別在不同的方向跑著，讀來令人忍俊不禁又頓生同情。

幸福的斗爭是如此艱難，天命弄人，可是這種斗爭的過程并非一種痛苦，一種悲劇，而是一種有著快樂意味的戲劇性的東西。而這一切都取決于魔汁的威力、和小精靈迫克的頑皮。后來也正是按著仙王的旨意，魔力得以解除、情人終成眷屬、仙人和好如初，仙界、人間復歸太平。

There is a booming of love bell from a distance where there is a white roof church.The land is draped in a veil of mystery by the moonlight who is the Dark Goddess.The fragrance of summer flowers are diffusing in the jungle, and also the blue sea, the quiet forest, the tranquil garden, all of them are full of the sweet smell.When everything has gone to sleep quietly, however, spirits are driving the boat what made of flowers to the shore.Oh, what do they want to do? We don“t know now, but we cognize the good dream is about to begin and the curtain of the midsummer night with love rises

In the palace of Theseus in Athens, a celebration of the wedding of Duke Theseus of Athens and the Amazonian queen Hippolyta is according to script.On one side, Hermia refuses to comply with her father, Egeus, who wishes for her to marry his chosen man, Demetrius.In response, Egeus beg the ancient privilege of whereby a daughter must marry the suitor chosen by her father, or else face death or lifelong chastity worshipping Diana as a nun.The law in this sense is an anachronism.Therefore, Hermia and her lover Lysander decide to elope by escaping through the forest at night.Hermia informs her best friend Helena, but Helena has recently been rejected by Demetrius and decides to win back his favor by revealing the plan to him.Therefore, Demetrius chases Hermia who he loves followed doggedly by Helena.On the other side, in the forest, Oberon, the king of the fairies, and his queen, Titania, are quarrelling with each because Titania refuses to give a little changeling boy to Oberon for using as his knight or henchman, since the child”s mother was one of Titania“s worshippers and she was always company with her.In order to distract Titania, force her to give up the page-boy, and help Helena wins the love of Demetrius, Oberon orders the mischievous Puck who also called Hobgoblin and Robin Goodfellow to help him fetch a flower called love-in-idleness what can produce a magical juice, which makes the victim fall in love with the first living thing he sees when he awakens.Oberon drops the liquor of the flower in Titania”s eyes when she is asleep for distracting her and forcing her to give up the India boy.What“s more, Oberon also orders Puck to crush this herb into the eyelids of the young Athenian man.Instead, Puck takes a mistake.He puts the juice on the eyes of Lysander who should have had a true-love with Hermia, but because of Puck”s negligence that he then falls in love with Helena.When Oberon finds this out, he asks Puck to make everything restorable at once and Demetrius falls in love with Helena.Everybody wakes up at the break of day and everything develops as they hoped.All shall be well, and Jack shall have Jill in the last.And also the king and queen of fairies patch up their tiff.The world goes down to be peaceful again.In this comedy drama, Shakespeare gives the good performance of the women.They have a noble moral character and the independent personality.They believe everyone cannot chop and change in love.The most admired thing is they have the courage to pursue their own love, commitment and loyalty of love at that time.Hermia“s father wants her to marry Demetrius, but she loses her heart to another young aristocrat Lysander.And Egeus feels very angry when he knows that they share a mutual affinity.He talks about the thing with the Duke of Athens and hopes that Hermia will bow to him under the law of Athens, but it not works.There is another female image Helena, Hermia”s good friend.She is very clever, pursuing her love and not giving up.Although she loved Demetrius deeply, Demetrius was infatuated with her good friend Hermia.When she learned that Hermia and Lysander will get away from here together, she said, if I have thanks, it is a dear expense: But herein mean I to enrich my pain, to have his sight thither and back again.She told Demetrius the news about Hermia, just for gaining a little reward to comfort herself.She is also to pursue love, but her heart is covered all over with cuts and bruises.Viola who is the role of the Twelfth Night is same with Helena.Both of them love deeply a person who doesn“t love herself, but there is also a difference between Helena and Viola.Duck Orsino don”t know Viola loves him, while Demetrius still don“t care about her feeling even knowing Helena loved him very much.However, whatever Demetrius do to her, which may humiliate and hurt her, she still insists on pursuing her love.Just what she expresses let Demetrius be in the wrong and Oberon have a compassion on her, so that her image is very impressive.The most magic dream, however, the most beautiful, but love.Just as in life, it is a tragedy and also a comedy, and the dream comes across the emotion.A Midsummer Night”s Dream, on the one hand, let me feel like being in the forest, mountain flowers brilliant, beautiful scenery could not bear.On the other hand, it touches my heart deeply by the women"s courage and resolution to pursue freedom love.
