66.Part A Possible answer

Dear Sir or Madam,I was a tourist of your agency.I caught a bad cold during my last trip to Mount Tai.I had a fever and felt very awful.I really had no idea how to do at that moment.Fortunately,my tourist guide helped me a lot.She gave me some medicine, and prepared some porridge for me.Thanks to her warm care,I felt better very soon.1 write to show my gratitude to my guide—and your travel agency.

Many thanks.

Yours,Wang Lin

67.Part B

Possible answer: This picture shows the serious overcrowding problem in a scenic place during the national holiday. As we can see from the picture, there are tourists everywhere. There are a lot of people enjoying boating in the small lake.Almost every inch of the bridge above the lake is covered by tourists.Tourists with their children spread on the land surrounding the lake.In a word, the only impression of the scenic place on national holiday is too crowded.

The cause of the overcrowding problem is obvious. One is more and more people choose to travel during holidays. The other is the improvement of people's living standard. Here are some suggestions to avoid such a phenomenon.First, the scenic agency can show the number of the tourists who have booked the tickets on net. Those who plan to visit the scene can see the possible number of tourists beforehand. In this way, they can make another choice.Second, those who really want to enjoy their holidays had better avoid travelling in golden weeks.one who would like enjoy his holiday should be more reasonable. If all of the tourists choose to travel at the same time,no one can actually enjoy their holidays.

imagine, if you will, the average games player.what do you see a guy who never grew up or a nervous 18-year-old pushing buttons on his controller, lost and alone in a violent onscreen world sorry, you lose.the average gamer is starting to look pretty much like the average person.for the first time, according to a us poll commissioned by aol games, roughly half of those surveyed, ages 12 to 55, are tapping away at some kind of electronic game—whether on a pc, a cell phone or another handheld device—for an average of three hours every week.the games people play say a lot about who they are.machines like the xbox and playstation 2 are largely the territory of twenty-something men, who prefer to picture themselves as sports ?stars and racing drivers.men 50 and older prefer military games.teenage girls are much more likely than boys to play games on their phone, while older women make up the majority of people playing card games such as hearts on line.is it a good thing, all this time spent on games or is it as harmful as television, pulling people ever further from reality the aol survey suggests some players are in denial about the extent of their habit.one in 10 gamers find it impossible to resist games;1 in 4 admits to losing a night?s sleep to play games;and another quarter has been too absorbed to have meals.but don?t think we?re all heading into a world with everyone plugged into, if not totally controlled by, his own game.quite the contrary: gamers appear to be more engaged with reality than other kinds of couch potatoes.according to a comprehensive survey by the entertainment software association(esa-whose members, of course, want you to think video games are healthy), gamers spend an average of 23 hours a week volunteering and going to church, concerts, museums and other cultural events.more enthusiastic gamers who play 11 hours a week or more spend ever more time out in the cultural world(34 hours).51.the aol survey finds that electronic games ______.a.do not present a violent onscreen world

the ostrich, the largest bird in the world at present, lives in the drier regions of africa outside the actual deserts.because of its very long, powerful legs and the floating effect of its extended wings, it is able to run at great speed over considerable distances.the female ostrich normally produces about twenty eggs every rainy season.when the female ostrich begins to lay her eggs, however, she does not begin in her own nest.instead she goes off in search of the nests of neighboring females and lays two or three eggs in each of them.by the time she has laid eight or nine eggs, she returns and lays the rest in her own nest.because of the size of the eggs, the female ostrich cannot lay more than one every two days, so it takes her three weeks to finish laying in her own nest.during that period, she spends a lot of time away from her nest looking for food.and while she is off her nest, other females visit it to lay their eggs amongst hers.by the time she is ready to sit on the eggs to hatch them, there could be up to thirty eggs in her nest, over half of which are not her own.the female ostrich can comfortably cover only about twenty eggs when she is sitting on the nest so before settling down she pushes the surplus ten or so eggs out of the nest.the rejected eggs, however, never include any of her own.each female is remarkably consistent in the size and shape of the eggs she produces, so it is not difficult for her to distinguish her own from those of strangers.of all the eggs laid by a colony of ostriches, only a very small number hatch into young birds.there are times when nests are left unprotected, for there are too few males to sit on all the nests at night.thus there are ample opportunities for their natural enemies to raid the nests and eat the eggs.in fact, nearly 80% of the nests are destroyed.but even if a particular female?s nest suffers this fate, there is a good chance that one or two of her eggs will be hatched in the nest of one of her neighbors.56.we learn from the text that an ostrich can go a long distance at high speed as ______.a.it is a special kind of bird

directions: read the opinions given by five scholars on challenges facing today?s single women.for questions 61 to 65, match the name of each scholar(61 to 65)to one of the statements(a to g)given below.mark your answers on answer sheet 1.what the women i spoke with said was that they want a husband who is independent and dedicated to his career, but that he doesn?t have to make a lot of money.the emphasis was always on finding a best friend—a soul mate—someone you could tell all your troubles to and who would be supportive.so it doesn?t seem to be the case that these women were looking for super high-achieving men.grise levison

i think that for women, as well as for men, the standard for someone who you?d want to spend your life with depends much more today on emotional intimacy.it takes some trial and error and a pretty long and dedicated search to identify the kind of person who is emotionally matching you and who is able to communicate and listen to trouble talk.marry brown

in recent decades girls have been raised to be more competitive and stronger than they were in the past.several women i talked to mentioned that in their life they felt that their intelligence or intellectual achievement seemed to work against them in their romantic relationships with men.however, most of the women i interviewed felt that there were some men “out there” who would be attracted to smart women.the problem was finding them.donna smith

i think, for the women i talked to, their ultimate sense of what they want in life includes family and children, but they aren?t willing to think about the fact that they therefore will probably have to give up some of their own individual pursuits and career goals.i think the definition of success includes both love and work, and that the challenge is how to arrange that in a particular order.elizabeth budy

i think that people who have clone at least some of the things that are essential for a wise judgment about a partner are more likely to eventually end up in a stable marriage.it?s also true that they?re likely to marry someone who is similar to them in education and earning power, which means that those marriages are likely to have more money in them.

2.the cartoon tells us a serious problem existing in the parks.many people throw litters everywhere without caring for the environment.the beautiful scenery is totally destroyed by the rubbish they throw away.with the development of our economy, people are paying less and less attention to the protection of our environment;as a result, we are facing a severe environmental problem.if we don’t protect our environment, our lives will be in great danger.we must take some measures to prevent the situation from becoming worse!

for instance, we can pick up litters and put them into the dustins, and we can teach children not to throw the litters casually.as an old saying goes, “a small act can make a big difference.” if everyone makes a contribution to the protection of our environment, i believe our world will be cleaner and more beautiful in the future, where green patches can be easily reached and the blue sky can always be seen clearly over our heads.

Iven would drop them at his feet.At nine every morning, Prince ran off to the general store in the village, returning shortly not only with Williams' daily paper but with a halfounce packet of Williams' favorite tobacco, John Rhiney's Mixed.A gundog by breed, Prince possessed a large soft mouth specially evolved for the safe carrying of hunted creatures, so the paper and the tobacco came to no harm, never even showing a tooth mark.

Williams was a railwayman, an engine driver, and he wore a blue uniform which smelled of oil and oil fuel.He had to work at odd times —“days”, “late days” or “nights”.Over the years Prince got to know these periods of work and rest, knew when his master would leave the house and return, and the dog did not waste this knowledge. If Williams overslept, as he often did, Prince barked at the bedroom door until he woke, much to the annoyance of the family. On his return, Williams' slippers were brought to him, the paper and tobacco too if previously undelivered.

A curious thing happened to Williams during the snow and ice of last winter. One evening he slipped and fell on the icy pavement somewhere between the village and his home.He was so badly shaken that he stayed in bed for three days;and not until he got up and dressed again did he discover that he had lost his wallet containing over fifty pounds. The house was turned upside down in the search, but the wallet was not found. However, two days later—that was five days after the fall—Prince dropped the wallet into William's hand.Very muddy, stained and wet through, the little case still contained fiftythree pounds, Williams' driving license and a few other papers.Where the dog had found it no one could tell, but found it he had and recognized it probably by the faint oily smell on the worn leather.

[B] Their teeth are removed when they are young.

[C] They can carry birds, etc.without hurting them.

[D] They breed well, producing many young dogs.

48.As a result of Williams' work.

[A] he did not get enough sleep

[B] there was an oily smell from his clothes

[C] the dog grew accustomed to travelling by train

About ten men in every hundred suffer from colour blindness in some way;women are luckier only about one in two hundred is affected in this manner. There are different forms of colour blindness.A man may not be able to see deep red.He may think that red, orange and yellow are all shades of green.Sometimes a person cannot tell the difference between blue and green. In rare cases an unlucky man may see everything in shades of green—a strange world indeed.

In certain occupations colour blindness can be dangerous and candidates are tested most carefully. For example, when fighting at night, soldiers use lights of flares to signal to each other.A green light may mean “Advance” and a red light may mean “Danger!Keep back!”, You can see what will happen if somebody thinks that red is green!Colour blindness in human beings is a strange thing to explain. In a single eye there are millions of very small things called “cones”, These help to see in a bright light and to tell the difference between colours. There are also millions of “rods” but these are used for seeing when it is nearly dark. They show us shape but not colour.Wait until it is dark tonight, then go outside.Look round you and try to see what colors you can recognize.

Birds and animals which hunt at night have eyes which contain few or no cones at all, so they cannot see colours. As far as we know, bats and adult owls cannot see colours at all only light and dark shapes.Similarly cats and dogs cannot see colours as well as we can.

Insects can see ultraviolet rays which are invisible to us, and some of them can even see Xrays. The wings of a moth may seem grey and dull to us, but to insects they may appear beautiful, showing colours which we cannot see.Scientists know that there are other colours around us which insects can see but which we cannot see. Some insects have favorite colours.Mosquitoes like blue, but do not like yellow.A red light will not attract insects but a blue lamp will.

51.Among people who suffer from colour blindness,.

[A] some may see everything in shades of green

[B] few can tell the difference between blue and green

[C] few may think that red, orange and yellow are all shades of green

[D] very few may think that everything in the world is in green

52.When millions of rods in our eyes are at work in darkness we can see.

[A] colours only

[B] shapes and colours

[C] shapes only

[D] darkness only

53.According to the passage, bats and adult owls cannot see colours.

[A] because they hunt at night

[B] because they cannot see light

[C] because they have no cones and rods

[D] because they have no cones

54.According to the passage, dogs and cats.

Text 3

A child who has once been pleased with a tale likes, as rule, to have it retold in identically the same words, but this should not lead parents to treat printed fairy stories as sacred texts. It is always much better to tell a story than read it out of a book, and, if a parent can produce what, in the actual circumstances of the time and the individual child, is an improvement on the printed text, so much the better.A charge made against fairy tales is that they harm the child by frightening him or arousing his sadistic impulses. To prove the latter, one would have to show in a controlled experiment that children who have read fairy stories were more often guilty of cruelty than those who had not.Aggressive, destructive, sadistic impulses every child has and, on the whole, their symbolic verbal discharge seems to be rather a safety valve than an incitement to overt action. As to fears, there are, I think, wellauthenticated cases of children being dangerously terrified by some fairy stories.Often, however, this arises from the child having heard the story once.Familiarity with the story by repetition turns the pain of fear into the pleasure of a fear faced and mastered.

There are also people who object to fairy stories on the grounds that they are not objectively true, that giants, witches, twoheaded dragons, magic carpets, etc., do not exist;and that, instead of indulging his fantasies in fairy tales, the child should be taught how to adapt to reality by studying history and mechanics.I find such people, I must confess, so unsympathetic and peculiar that I do not know how to argue with them.If their case were sound, the world should be full of madmen attempting to fly from New York to Philadelphia on a broomstick or covering a telephone with kisses in the belief that it was their enchanted girl friend.

No fairy story ever claimed to be a description of the external world and no sane child had ever believed that it was.

56.In the writer's opinion, a fairy tale.

[A] cannot be read to children without variation because they find no pleasure in it

[B] will be more effective if it is adapted by parents

[C] must be made easy so that children can read it on their own

[D] is no longer needed in developing children's power of memory

57.According to the passage, some people who are openly against fairy tales argue that.

[A] fairy tales are harmful to children in that they show the primitive cruelty in children

[B] fairy tales are harmful to children unless they have been adapted by their parent [C] fairy tales increase a tendency to sadism in children

[D] children who have read fairy stories pay little attention to the study of history and mechanics

58.In the writer's opinion to rid children of fears, fairy stories should be.[A] told only once

[B] repeated many times

[C] told in a realistic setting

[D] presented vividly

[A] If children indulged his fantasies in fairy tales instead of being

[B] Children can often be greatly terrified when the fairy story is heard for the first time.

Read the texts from an article in which five people talked about smoking. For questions 61 to 65, match the name of each person(1 to 5)to one of the statements(A to G)given below.Mark your answers on your ANSWER SHEET.Hadley

If you smoke and you still don't believe that there's a definite link between smoking and bronchial troubles, heart disease and lung cancer, then you are certainly deceiving yourself.Just have a look at those people in hospital with these diseases and count how many of them do not smoke, you may be surprised at the number.Even these few people might be passive smokers without realising it.Randy

Tobacco is a wonderful commodity to tax. It's almost like a tax on our daily bread. In tax revenue alone, the government of Britain collects enough from smokers to pay for its entire educational facilities. So while the authorities point out ever so carefully that smoking may be harmful, it doesn't do to shout too loudly about it.Sampson

The advertising of tobacco is one of the problems. We are never shown pictures of real smokers coughing up their lings early in the morning. That would never do.The advertisements always depict handsome, cleanshaven young men. They suggest it is manly to smoke, even positively healthy!Smoking is associated with the great openair life, with beautiful girls, true love and togetherness. What utter nonsense!

Rowley

Of course tobacco can help government to raise money. However, while money is eagerly collected in vast sums with one hand, it is paid out in increasingly vaster sums with the other.Enormous amounts are spent on cancer research and on efforts to cure people suffering from the disease.Countless valuable lives are lost.In the long run, there is no doubt that everybody would be much better off if smoking were banned altogether.Bernice

Part A

4.[C]本題出現了“cotton”, “wool”, “nylon”這些干擾詞,但是關鍵只有兩句話“Are those made of cotton more expensive?” “Yes, that's right.”

6.[D]本題的關鍵在于理解“the sooner the better”的含義,即越快越好,故選D。

7.[D]“running a temperature”即“having a fever”意思是“發燒”。

8.[B]“Much the same as last”:跟過去差不多。 

9.[C]由對話中“I warned him many times, but he wouldn't listen.” 

10.[D]“Whether or not there'll even be a field trip has to be decided first”告訴我們“實地考察還有待決定”,故選D。

問題的答案可從下面三句話中得出:“The public schools of the United States are not controlled by the national government nor by church authorities but by the local communities themselves.” “75% were graduating from high school.”

“Education is made various in form, to meet the students' various needs.”

14—17 [A][D][B][C]

Dr.Brown's class finished ten minutes early, so I went to the library between classes.”

Iven 第三、四道題的答案分別可從下面這兩句話得出:“The books in the library are all magnetically coded”和“The librarian behind the desk demagnetizes them.

18—21 [A][B][A][C]

22—25 [B][D][B][A]

Section Ⅱ

26.[A]

He was one who never troubled about his personal comfort.

He behaves like one who has gone mad.

30.[C]

根據上下文只有C符合本句意思;for the sake of意為“為了??

出于?? 

31.[D]

“With brief written comments”正好與后面的“Without a grade”相對,意即“附有書面評語卻不打分”。

32.[C]

be responsible for...

C可以首先排除;besides, except和but均可譯成“除了”,但besides與except, but的含義卻完全不同:besides意為“in addition to”,“as well as”,意即“除??之外還”;except, but意為“not including”,“but not”,意即“除去??”,“但??

“got up and dressed again”中的“again”一詞說明了在這三天內他一直沒能起床穿衣,自然也就沒機會摸衣服口袋了,這就是他這幾天一直沒意識到錢包丟了的原因。

這里易誤選的是A答案,注意文中的as well as是不如??好的意思,是比較級的as...as形式,不是作為“也”意思講的短語“as well as”。

“produce what, in the actual circumstances of the time and the individual child, is an improvement on the printed text”指的就是對童話加以改編。

Part B

Should Men Be Forced by Law to Do Half the Housework?

It is really ridiculous that the Australian parliament was to lay down a law to force human being to do the housework.I can't reason out anything to explain that a government should meddle in the family life.In my opinion, nobody can divide equally the housework into two parts and tell what a man or a woman should do in a family.Husband and Wife, enjoying the same right in a family, give their deep seated love to each other. On the one hand, Wife has no obligation to shoulder the heavy burden of all the housework.Neither does Husband. On the other hand, if they deal with the housework as the businessman does in a market, the family will come to its end. When one is at home, the other is still working outside, why doesn't he or she prepare everything for him or her and give him or her a sense of having a family? Why not comfort him or her if he or she comes back exhaustedly? Why do you just force Husband to do half? Why not the whole if he is free? If he loves his wife, is it necessary to force him?Therefore, it is not reasonable for any institution to interfere in a private life.It is not necessary to force Husband to do half of housework.

Imagine, if you will, the average games player. What do you see A guy who never grew up Or a nervous 18-year-old pushing buttons on his controller, lost and alone in a violent onscreen world Sorry, you lose. The average gamer is starting to look pretty much like the average person.

For the first time, according to a US poll commissioned by AOL Games, roughly half of those surveyed, ages 12 to 55, are tapping away at some kind of electronic game—whether on a PC, a cell phone or another handheld device—for an average of three hours every week. The games people play say a lot about who they are.Machines like the Xbox and PlayStation 2 are largely the territory of twenty-something men, who prefer to picture themselves as sports ‘stars and racing drivers.Men 50 and older prefer military games.Teenage girls are much more likely than boys to play games on their phone, while older women make up the majority of people playing card games such as Hearts on line.Is it a good thing, all this time spent on games Or is it as harmful as television, pulling people ever further from reality The AOL survey suggests some players are in denial about the extent of their habit. One in 10 gamers find it impossible to resist games;1 in 4 admits to losing a night’s sleep to play games;and another quarter has been too absorbed to have meals. But don’t think we’re all heading into a world with everyone plugged into, if not totally controlled by, his own game.Quite the contrary: gamers appear to be more engaged with reality than other kinds of couch potatoes.According to a comprehensive survey by the Entertainment Software Association(ESA-whose members, of course, want you to think video games are healthy), gamers spend an average of 23 hours a week volunteering and going to church, concerts, museums and other cultural events.More enthusiastic gamers who play 11 hours a week or more spend ever more time out in the cultural world(34 hours).51.The AOL survey finds that electronic games ______.A.do not present a violent onscreen world

female ostrich begins to lay her eggs, however, she does not begin in her own nest.Instead she goes off in search of the nests of neighboring females and lays two or three eggs in each of them.By the time she has laid eight or nine eggs, she returns and lays the rest in her own nest.Because of the size of the eggs, the female ostrich cannot lay more than one every two days, so it takes her three weeks to finish laying in her own nest.During that period, she spends a lot of time away from her nest looking for food. And while she is off her nest, other females visit it to lay their eggs amongst hers.By the time she is ready to sit on the eggs to hatch them, there could be up to thirty eggs in her nest, over half of which are not her own.The female ostrich can comfortably cover only about twenty eggs when she is sitting on the nest so before settling down she pushes the surplus ten or so eggs out of the nest. The rejected eggs, however, never include any of her own. Each female is remarkably consistent in the size and shape of the eggs she produces, so it is not difficult for her to distinguish her own from those of strangers.Of all the eggs laid by a colony of ostriches, only a very small number hatch into young birds. There are times when nests are left unprotected, for there are too few males to sit on all the nests at night. Thus there are ample opportunities for their natural enemies to raid the nests and eat the eggs.In fact, nearly 80% of the nests are destroyed. But even if a particular female’s nest suffers this fate, there is a good chance that one or two of her eggs will be hatched in the nest of one of her neighbors.56.We learn from the text that an ostrich can go a long distance at high speed as ______.A.it is a special kind of bird

In recent decades girls have been raised to be more competitive and stronger than they were in the past.Several women I talked to mentioned that in their life they felt that their intelligence or intellectual achievement seemed to work against them in their romantic relationships with men. However, most of the women I interviewed felt that there were some men “out there” who would be attracted to smart women. The problem was finding them.Donna Smith

I think, for the women I talked to, their ultimate sense of what they want in life includes family and children, but they aren’t willing to think about the fact that they therefore will probably have to give up some of their own individual pursuits and career goals.I think the definition of success includes both love and work, and that the challenge is how to arrange that in a particular order.Elizabeth Budy

I think that people who have clone at least some of the things that are essential for a wise judgment about a partner are more likely to eventually end up in a stable marriage. It’s also true that they’re likely to marry someone who is similar to them in education and earning power, which means that those marriages are likely to have more money in them. Now match the name of each scholar(61 to 65)to the appropriate statement.Note: there are two extra statements.Statements

2.The cartoon tells us a serious problem existing in the parks. Many people throw litters everywhere without caring for the environment. The beautiful scenery is totally destroyed by the rubbish they throw away. With the development of our economy, people are paying less and less attention to the protection of our environment;as a result, we are facing a severe environmental problem. If we don’t protect our environment, our lives will be in great danger. We must take some measures to prevent the situation from becoming worse!

For instance, we can pick up litters and put them into the dustins, and we can teach children not to throw the litters casually. As an old saying goes, “A small act can make a big difference.” If everyone makes a contribution to the protection of our environment, I believe our world will be cleaner and more beautiful in the future, where green patches can be easily reached and the blue sky can always be seen clearly over our heads.

English has been getting more and more popular in the last decade. Many countries have made English taught as the second language in schools. But why do students need English? If they do need, what do they need it for?

Different students learn English for different purposes. Most of the students learn English because they need to read English textbooks or journals and attend English lectures, while a few students use it to talk to English-speaking visitors, attend seminars,or write letters and reports.Whatever the purposes are,one thing is certain: Students need English, and English teaching should be strengthened in universities. However, the current teaching methods should be improved and the teaching materials should be updated to satisfy their needs.
