1.定義：用作表語的從句叫做表語從句，說明主語是什么或者怎么樣。The problem is puzzling.主語 連系動詞 形容詞作表語

3.引導表語從句的關聯詞的種類：（1）從屬連詞that.如：

The trouble is that I have lost his address.麻煩是我把他的地址丟了。（2）從屬連詞whether，as，as if.如：

He looked just as he had looked ten years before.他看起來還與十年前一樣。

The question is whether they will be able to help us.問題是他們是否能幫我們。

注：從屬連詞if一般不用來引導表語從句，但as if卻可引導表語從句，如：

All this was over twenty years ago，but it’s as if it was only yesterday.這都是20多年前的事了，但宛如昨天一樣。

能跟表語從句的謂語動詞一般為系動詞be，seem，look等。如：

It looked as if it was going to rain.看起來天要下雨了。

（3）連接代詞who，whom，whose，what，which，whoever，whatever，whichever

連接副詞 where，when，how，why.如：The problem is who we can get to replace her.問題是我們能找到誰去替換她呢。

The question is how he did it.問題是他是如何做此事的。

That was what she did this morning on reaching the attic.那就是她今晨上了閣樓干的。解釋：

1.連詞because可引導表語從句。如：

I think it is because you are doing too much.我想這是因為你做得太多。

2.在一些表示“建議、勸說、命令”的名詞后面的表語從句中，謂語動詞用虛擬語氣。should+動詞原形表示，should可省略。如： My suggestion is that we（should）start early tomorrow.我的建議是我們明天一早就出發。注意：A.表語從句一定要用陳述語序。

False: The question is when can he arrive at the hotel.Right: The question is when he can arrive at the hotel.B.不可以用if，而用whether 連接表語從句(as if 例外)。

引導賓語從句時可以互換if/whether 位于介詞后要用whether

位于句首時要用whether

引導表語從句，主語從句，同位語從句時要用whether

注意： “That is why...”是常用句型，意為“這就是??的原因/因此??”，其中why引導的名詞性從句在句中作表語，該句型通常用于針對前面已經說明過的原因進行總結，又如： That is why you see this old woman before you know, Jeanne.珍妮，這就是現在這個老太婆出現在你面前的原因。(前文提到Jeanne對老婦人顯得蒼老憔悴深感詫異，說話人對她講述了其中的原因之后，用這一句來進行概括)。// That is why I came.這就是我來的原因。

下面是兩個與“That is why...”形式相似的結構，它們與“That is why...”結構之間的關系要能夠辨析清楚：

(1)“That is why...”與“That is the reason why...”同義，只不過從語法結構上講，“That is the reason why...”中why引導的是—個定語從句，將其中的the reason去掉則與“That is why...”結構一樣，例如：

That is(the reason)why I cannot agree.這就是我不能同意的理由。

(2)“That is because...”句型中從屬連詞because引導的名詞性從句在此作表語，這也是個常用句型，意為“這就是為什么??/因為??”?！癟hat is because...”與“That is why...”之間的不同在于“That is because...”指原因或理由，“That is why...”則指由于各種原因所造成的后果，例如：

He did not see the film last night.That is because he had to help his little sister with her homework.昨天晚上他沒有去看電影，那是因為他得幫助他的妹妹做作業。(第一句話說明結果，第二句話說明原因)

He had seen the film before.That is why he did not see it last night.他以前曾看過那部電影，因此他昨天晚上沒有去看。(第一句話說明原因，第二句話說明結果)

The Predicative Clause表語從句

在復合句中作表語的從句稱作表語從句，位于連系動詞（be，seem，remain等）之后。1.that 引導的表語從句

連接詞that 僅起連接作用，無意義，在句中不作任何成分，通常不可省略。這種從句往往是對主句主語的內容起進一步解釋的作用。

連接詞whether起連接作用，意為“是否、究竟、到底”，（注意：if不能引導表語從句)在句中也不作任何成分。

一、表語從句的定義：

表語從句放在連系動詞之后，充當復合句中的表語。

二、表語從句的構成： 關聯詞+簡單句

三、引導表語從句的關聯詞的種類：

1.可接表語從句的連系動詞有be, look, seem, sound, appear等。China is no longer what she used to be.今日的中國不再是過去的中國了。

The question remains whether they will be able to help us.問題還是他們能否幫我們。

At that time, it seemed as if I couldn't think of the right word.當時，我似乎怎么也想不出一個恰當的字眼來。

2.從屬連詞whether, as, as if / though引導的表語從句 He looked just as he had looked ten years before.他看起來還與十年前一樣。

It sounds as if someone is knocking at the door.聽起來好像有人在敲門。

3.because, why引導的表語從句

That's because he didn't understand me.那是因為他沒有理解我。(That's because...強調原因)

That's why he got angry with me.那正是他對我生氣的原因。(That's why...強調結果)what引導的主語從句表示結果或名詞reason作主語時，后面的表語從句表示原因時要用that引導，不宜用because。

The reason why I was sad was that he didn't understand me.我難過的原因是他沒有理解我。

4.連接代詞who, whom, whose, what, which, whoever, whatever, whichever 連接副詞 where, when, how, why。如：

The problem is who we can get to replace her.問題是我們能找到誰去替換她呢。

The question is how he did it.問題是他是如何做此事的。

在表示建議、勸告、命令含義的名詞后的表語從句，謂語動詞需用“should+動詞原形” 表示，should可省略。常見的詞有：advice, suggestion, order, proposal, plan, idea等。My suggestion is that we(should)start early tomorrow.我的建議是我們明天一早就出發。

四、應注意的問題：

1.連系動詞be，appear，seem，look等之后可以跟表語從句。It was because he didn't pass the exam.那是因為他沒有通過考試。

It seems（that）he was late for the train.看來他沒搭上火車。It appears that she was wrong.看來她錯了。

It seems to me that we should answer for this.在我看來，我們似乎應該對此事負責。

It appears to her that he wants to teach us all he has.在她看來，他似乎要把他所會的都教給我們。2.引導表語從句的引導詞有以下幾類。1）wh-疑問詞

My question is who left.我想問的是誰離開了。What I wonder is when he left.我想知道他是何時離開的。That's what he wants.那是他想要的。

This is where they once lived.這就是他們曾經住過的地方。

That is why he didn't come here.這就是他為何沒到這兒來的原因。2）whether My question is whether he left（or not）.我的問題是他是否離開了。注：if不能引導表語從句。3）that The fact is that he left.事實是他離開了。

注：引導表語從句的連詞that間或可以省略。

The truth is（that）I didn't go there.事實是我沒去那兒。4）because，as，as if，as though

It's just because he doesn't know her.這是僅僅因為他不認識她。Things are not always as they seem to be.事物并不總是如其表象。He looks as if he's tired.他好像累了。
