一般來說，在美國私立寄宿中學(xué)申請中校方都會要求學(xué)生參加各種形式的面試，如校園面試、電話面試、視頻面試、校友面試、教育展中的面試等。舉例來說可能會更清楚一些。如Millbrook School學(xué)校為了測評學(xué)生的英文水平，一般會要求學(xué)生親自到學(xué)校進(jìn)行面試；The Pennington School學(xué)校則不要求學(xué)生進(jìn)行面試，只根據(jù)學(xué)生的申請材料進(jìn)行綜合測評；George School要求國際學(xué)生提供個人視頻介紹。2009年Blair, Hill，Berkshire,等學(xué)校招生主任參加了在北京或香港舉辦的TABS（The Association of Boarding Schools）教育展，對有意向的申請學(xué)生進(jìn)行了面試。今年TABS教育展也將于10月底在北京、上海，11月初在香港舉行，請目前正在申請美國私立寄宿高中的學(xué)生提前準(zhǔn)備。華聯(lián)教育也會關(guān)注此類信息并及時發(fā)布。

面試的作用：學(xué)校通過面試環(huán)節(jié)了解學(xué)生基本信息，畢竟通過雙方互動溝通能夠更直觀的判斷學(xué)生的興趣及潛質(zhì)所在。另一方面這種溝通也是判斷學(xué)生英文水平的方式，學(xué)生在面試中表現(xiàn)的英文水平甚至?xí)Q定學(xué)生在入學(xué)后是否應(yīng)該就讀ESL課程。就學(xué)生而言，無一例外地希望自己能給面試官留下一個好印象，使自己能在眾多申請者中脫穎而出。如果學(xué)生本人英語口語能力不錯，不妨主動爭取向?qū)W校展示一下，主動要求面試，最好是視頻面試。

面試的準(zhǔn)備：對于學(xué)生而言，校方所要了解這個學(xué)生無非通過幾個方面的問題，關(guān)系到學(xué)生自己的個性及愛好、學(xué)生的家庭情況、學(xué)生就讀的學(xué)校。如果家長可以說英語的話，筆者建議家長也主動和面試官進(jìn)行對話交流，以家長的角度向面試官多方面闡述一下孩子的情況，也會為學(xué)生的申請增色不少。所以在面試前，學(xué)生一定要先練習(xí)好自己的口語，運(yùn)用好語言作為交流工具的作用。其次要知己知彼，詳細(xì)了解你申請的學(xué)校背景及優(yōu)勢，找到你與學(xué)校的契合點(diǎn)，也就是說全面分析一下你的優(yōu)勢，圍繞以上闡述的三個方面提前進(jìn)行準(zhǔn)備，也建議學(xué)生能在面試時準(zhǔn)備好一些資料，如個人的簡歷，個人照片，成績單等。

面試技巧：第一，注意言行的禮貌。著裝整潔大方，主動打招呼。第二，積極主動提供對自己有利的信息。此時你的謙遜內(nèi)斂也許會讓你的優(yōu)點(diǎn)埋沒，所以在面試中要主動介紹并顯現(xiàn)自己的才能與潛力。如一位學(xué)生在電話面試中應(yīng)學(xué)校老師的要求悠揚(yáng)地唱起了英文歌；

一位女孩與招生官交流時當(dāng)場發(fā)揮了自己素描的功底，現(xiàn)場為招生官作畫。第三，很多學(xué)生在面試時覺得非常緊張，一板一眼，這也不符合西方人的交流習(xí)慣與方式。所以在給學(xué)生做面試前的輔導(dǎo)時，筆者常常告訴學(xué)生“你不要把它當(dāng)成一次嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)正規(guī)的面試，其實(shí)只是一種交流與溝通”。所以在這種交流與溝通過注意彼此的互動。而不是有規(guī)格的一問一答的形式，也無所謂什么標(biāo)準(zhǔn)答案。
