google + 柯林斯英英字典(不要用金山)
使用google可以檢驗你的表達是中式的還是native的,因為如果表達非常中式,search bar下面會蹦出好多中英夾雜的網(wǎng)站鏈接,那么就直接否定掉。
筆者曾經(jīng)翻譯過一個詞“班主任”,很遺憾美國的高中并不設有這樣一項職位,網(wǎng)絡上有譯為teacher in charge of the class,這屬于純粹的“意”譯。外國人仍然不能第一眼看明白。于是,筆者從班主任的功能出發(fā),想到了supervisor一詞,然后再次google,非常讓人興奮的是class supervisor一詞有很多uk和美國的鏈接,而且supervisor是監(jiān)督之意,符合班主任之職責。
使用柯林斯英英字典的理由是,他給出的英文解釋和例句能夠消除英漢字典中中文解釋的歧義。e.g.challenge the authority在英文中用來形容英勇的行為,有較強的感情色彩,不宜修飾學生,若修飾學生直接使用 the courage to question就好,中性且無異議。
最后就是注意句式變化,特別是強調(diào)句型的應用。若需強調(diào)被推薦人的某個特質(zhì),強調(diào)句型是最理想的選擇,不要通篇全都是陳述句。篇四:高中生出國留學的推薦信
