Wuthering Heights’ love
In Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, based on love, on the other side, demonstrates the collision between humanity and culture. The humanity is very complex.Accordingly, this novel has the haunting plot. This novel reveals the humanity?s complexity and profundity, because it implies the love and resentment, furthermore, the humanity has impacted on the temporal social culture. This paper explores the love and hate ——producing from the collision between humanity and culture. And try to illustrate the undying love between Catherine and Heathcliff through humanity and culture and how to face their love.Under the social culture, when love turns to hate, hate twists humanity.Thereby, humanity?s love is as tragedy through culture.Because they missed the beautiful time for me, when humanity arises again. In Wuthering Heights, the topic is love, deduces us a world-shaking undying love. They are not only have the lingering love, but also a deeply ingrained hate between them.Catherine and Heathcliff?s love has both humanity and social culture and which bind with them. The humanity has made their love unchanged and undying, but culture destroys this love, and causes hate, Catherine betrays him. Therefore Heathcliff?s hate is quite incisive and vivid, but still comes back to the love.In the novel by Emily Bronte, the two main characters have the natural style and primitive nature—— naivete, truculence, frankness, firmness, a flush of sentiment, behavior is crazy. They love very desperately, they hate is regardless of whatever. As a result, the characters? love quite strong, shaking-heart.“Unchanged as the mount, ferocity as the lighting”(song p7).Hence, Wuthering Heights becomes the most magnificent love epic in the world. In the nineteenth century, the Victorian period the nobleman is enormously proud of their success, full of the temporal rank concept.Status is first, money is God.People?s spirits suffer from the intense oppression.Humanity is twisted without mercy. The Earnshows hold a precarious place within the hierarchy.Although the gentry, possessed servants and often large estates, they nonetheless hold a fragile social position. The Lintons are relatively firm in their gentry?s status, but the Earnshows are on much shakier ground social.Catherine wants to marry Edgar so that she will be “the greatest woman of the neighborhood”.Above all, this is the social culture and humanity on that time. But Catherine and Heathcliff?s character is governed by their passions, not by reflection or ideals of civility. Also the house where they live comes to symbolize the humanity, but Thrushcross Grange represents culture, convention, refinement. When Catherine left for Thrushcross Grange the first time, she has impacted on this culture and finds herself deeply attracted by it.Therefore, for love her heart so ambivalent.Owning to Catherine?s changing, Heathcliff begins to resent the society that is responsible, “when he acquires power and returns to Wuthering Heights with money and the trappings of a gentleman he becomes a villain”.Humanity was dispelled in a corner;social culture was filled in civic brain. The heroine—Catherine is very ambivalent in her love.Due to human nature, she loves Heathcliff deeply with childlike passion, and her soul can?t live without him.But the social culture made her betray the love in order to satisfy her yearning for fame and wealth. She chooses Linton, hereby her love becomes a tragedy.“Inevitably , the unbridgeable gab in Catherine?s and Heath cliff?s social positions renders their fervent romance unrealizable on any practical level ”.Catherine?s actions are so stringing driven by her social ambitions , that she betrays her humanity, and consequently Heathcliff?s love turns top the hate.Heathcliff becomes a so-called genteel man, returns to Wuthering Heights and carrying out all the cruel acts of revenge.Nevertheless, this love is natural, primitive, inner, and spiritual one.On account of their soul has been the unit can?t separate from each other, no more than two bodies. The emotion can?t use the culture to explain and alter it.The temporal social culture compares with the delicate humanity, thereby resulting in a painful ending to this love story. When love turns to hate, hate twists the humanity. This profound avatar is shown through Heathcliff and Catherine. The author shows for us the struggle between humanity?s love and social culture. In light if this ideal, today, how do we choose our love when faced it?

Wuthering Heights This is the second time that I have read this novel and every time I read it I have a complete different understanding of it.I remember that I was trembled with anger when I read for the first time.I was shocked by Heathcliff’s cruelty and his crazy revenge;I was ashamed of Catherine’s vanity;I had deep sympathy for Edgar and his sister’s miserable fate. However, my former prejudice for the novel all gone after my second read.I thinkthis novel is centered in love and it is the source of most of the major conflicts that structure the novel’s plot, which gives me a whole different understanding of the gem of the novel. The novel is told in the form of an extended flashback. After a visit to his strange landlord, a newcomer to the area desires to know the history of the family and he receives from Nelly Deans, a servant who introduces us to the Earnshaw family who once resided in the house known as Wuthering Heights.Heathcliff is adopted by the master of the house and grow up with Earnshaw’s two kids, Catherine and Hindley.Heathcliff and Catherine grow into inseparable and begin to have feelings for each other. However, Catherine’s desire for social advancement prompts her to become engaged to Edgar Linton.Heathcliff runs away from Wuthering Heights, staying away for three years, and returning shortly after Catherine and Edgar’s marriage and then beginning his cruel revenge. He deviously lends money to the drunken Hindley and then takes advantage of this chance to make Wuthering Heights his own property. He also plans to inherit Thrushcross Grange by marrying Isabella Linton, whom he treats very cruelly. What’s more, the next generation doesn’t escape Heathcliff’s evil plan.He makes young Linton marry young Catherine to take revenge at Edgar Linton and possesses both Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. However, in the end, the other young people who are in love are end up being together and Heathcliff, in response to Catherine’s calling, diedin a night when he spent a day’s walking on the moors. This is pretty the whole general content of the book.In fact, the book is actually structured around two parallel love stories, the first half of the novel centering on the love between Catherine and Heathcliff, while the less dramatic second half features the developing love between young Catherine and Hareton.Catherine and Heathcliff’s love ends up with failure and causes a series of tragedies, while the latter tale ends happily, restoring peace and order to Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. The reason for the failure of Catherine and Heathcliff’s tragedy is various.Firstly, it is influenced by social background. This novel is written in the end of 18th century and the beginning of 19th century. The society is really obviously classified and people try very hard to be the top class..Catherine’s decision to marry Edgar so that she will be “the greatest woman of the neighborhood’’ is an obvious example. The shifting nature of social status is demonstrated most strikingly in Heathcliff’s trajectory from homeless waif to young gentleman-by-adoption to common laborer to gentleman again. In that society, social status is everything and the people without any property or land is nothing. So when Heathcliff is rich after he leaves Wuthering Heights, he still want to come back and do everything he could

to get Wuthering Heights. And then the tragedy happens to the entirecharacters. To sum up, the tragedy of Catherine and Heathcliff’s love is the consequence of the social reality.Secondly, I think both Catherine and Heathcliff are too used to their identities as lovers and after they all marry others, they still can’t adapt themselves to their new roles in their lives. So they can’t live peacefully in their own family and then a series of tragedies happen to them as well as other innocent people. However, the situation between young Catherine and Hareton is completely different. These two young people can adapt themselves to a series of changes.Young Catherine first marries young Linton and after Linton’s death, she begins to accept the truth and has feelings for Hareton gradually.Though they hate each other in the first place, they learn to get along with each other with time going on.This is why Iwould rather think this book is focus on love than a revenge story. In the first place, I also have doubt that maybe Catherine doesn’t love Heathcliff. But after a second thought, I know that Heathcliff is the one in Catherine’s heart. She once said that “I am Heathcliff,” while Heathcliff, upon Catherine’s death, wails that he cannot live without his “soul,” meaning Catherine.Catherine marries Edgar for his property and social status and these are superficial things. Her deep love is always Heathcliff and that is the reason why she is so contradictory when Heathcliff come back for her.And Heathcliff never get over Catherine in his whole life. After Catherine’s death, he lives vacuously and painfully. And all the revenges he did for others are originate in his love for her.Although he does a lot of bad things, his love for Catherine never disappears and he can accept Hareton, the son of his enemy, and begin to love him in the end.Love conquers hatred and Heathcliff is crying for death to meet Catherine, and to some extent, they finally end up together. And this is happy ending for them and for their love.Love is the forever thing and all the other things die down after Heathcliff’s death.Someone remarked that “as a shattering presentation of the doomed love affair between the fiercely passionate Catherine and Heathcliff, it remains one of the most haunting love stories in all of literature.’’
I know this is just a small part of the explanation of the novel. The novel can be an everlasting not just because of its theme of love;it has other description of the society and people, such as karma, class struggle and so on.No matter which aspect people tend to believe, it has a reason to be read and studied and spread.

We should think twice before action.
第五篇:《呼嘯山莊》英語讀后感.
The hatred and the love
——
In the end, Mr.Heathcliff died of his true love and his all-life hatred. It’s a tragedy of two houses. From the tragedy I realized that the greatest source of misery and hatred in this world is clinging to past hurts and love.We sometimes shouldn’t hark back to some events long gone.Learn to be more tolerance, wise and kind.Just remember as Martin Luther said above.
