?商務英語寫作?考試所采用的題型包括:單項選擇題、填空題、單句翻譯題和撰寫英文書信等。現分別舉例說明:
1.單項選擇題
這里所說的單項選擇題實際上是一般所說的多項選擇題,是國際上英語測試中最常見的一種題型。這種題型要求學生在給定的三或四個選擇項中選出一個正確答案。通過這種題型既可測試學生對英語詞匯掌握的廣度和深度,也可測試學生對英語語法掌握的廣度和深度。例如:

正確答案是d.on, as.[分析]本題的測試點是考查學生對介詞多義性的掌握程度,以及對as + v-ed(過去分詞)這種結構的運用。
題中on“按照,根據”;as+v-ed中as為連詞,意為“如同”,也可釋為“按照”。根據題意,只有d是正確答案。其余三個選擇項都是錯的: 選擇項a中”on stated“有問題; 選擇項b中”as the terms”有問題;選擇項c中“as the terms”,“on the stated”都有問題。

2.填空題
這部分試題指的是單句填空。題中不設任何選擇項,要求考生根據題意,用自己掌握的詞匯進行填空,只要意思成立,無語言錯誤,符合英語規范就行。這部分試題的測試重點是介詞,當然也包括一些常用的動詞、副詞、形容詞和連詞等。因此解答這類試題的關鍵是根據題意判斷題中缺少的是哪一類詞。如果是介詞,還得確定與題中哪個詞搭配:是一般搭配或是固定搭配,是構成短語動詞或是構成成語;如果是動詞,還是確定其形式:謂語形式或非謂語形式(不定式、分句或動名詞)。然后,在此基礎上,從自己掌握的詞匯中選出合適的詞填入空白處,完成句子的意思。特別要注意不能出語言錯誤。例如:

[解題關鍵] 本題由兩個句子組成。第一句是被動句The company?is considered?。其中inquire about是短語動詞,you inquired about是省去了which的,修飾company 的定語從句;in your letter修飾inquired about;be considered后的to并不是介詞,而是構成動詞不定式的小品詞。這里的to have an excellent reputation作句子的主語company的補語。第二句的結構是?We have sold goods?,but have never experienced a delay?。其中amount to是短語動詞,amounting to eight million dollars是分詞短語,作goods的后置定語;in payment介詞短語是修飾delay的后置短語。

3.選擇給定的適當的單詞填空題
這部分試題是短文填空題,每空填一個詞,待填的單詞集中列在題首。做這一試題時,切忌見空就填,最好先很快通讀一遍整個語篇,熟悉語言環境,然后從給定的單詞中仔細選擇出正確答案。例如:

4.英漢翻譯
這部分試題主要考核學生對外貿英語信函中常用句型和習用法的確切理解并將其譯成通順漢語的能力。該試題多由單句組成。做英譯漢試題時,要特別注意試題句子本身的內容。對代詞it, its, they, their等的指代關系一定要弄準確。某些單句或短語似乎相識,但在句中卻另有所指或特指,或比喻或隱喻,對這些詞和短語一定要反復推敲,選用準確的漢語來表達,切忌望文生義、想當然或八九十離十。做完這部分試題,一定要留出時間根據原文仔細校對譯文。難譯的詞句要反復校對,注意有否漏譯、錯譯或詞不達意的文句。如果譯文連考生自己都看不懂,肯定有問題,應采取相應措施進行再翻譯或做文字加工。只有這樣,才能取得好成績。例如:
1.We look forward to the opportunity to be of service to you.[譯文]“期待有為貴方效勞的機會。”
[考點] be of service to“為?服務”
[解題關鍵] to be of service to you 動詞不定式短語修飾the opportunity,作后置定語,整個句子的翻譯要符合中文外貿書信的用詞規范。當然可以譯寫成:“我們盼望有機會為你們服務”,但這比上述譯文“期待有為貴方效勞的機會”或“期待有機會為貴方效勞”遜色多了。
2.These goods being in great demand, we cannot hold this offer open.[譯文] “這些貨物需求量大,本公司無法保持此報盤有效。”
[考點] 分詞獨立結構These goods being in great demand的譯法;hold this offer open“保持此報盤有效”
[解題關鍵] 分詞獨立結構在句中可譯成獨立的句子;hold this offer open為外貿習用語,用固定的譯法(參見上述[譯文])。
3.We think you do better to accept this offer now than by delay be perhaps compelled to agree to others less advantageous.[譯文] “本公司認為貴方現在應明智地接受這項報價,以免因遲延而或許被迫同意其他較為不利的條件。”
[考點] ?you do better to(do)? than ? be(perhaps)compelled to(do)“做?比被迫做?好”
[解題關鍵] 弄清句子結構,特別是考點。Than后面的by delay修飾be perhaps compelled to agree?;形容詞比較級less advantageous修飾others,作其后置定語。翻譯成漢語時,?you do better to(do)? than ? be perhaps compelled to(do)?采取了較靈活的譯法。“做?比被迫做?好”引申為“做?以免被迫做?”(參見上述[譯文])。
4.Please accept our apologies for being not helpful to you.[譯文] “對此我們無法對貴方有所幫助,請接受本公司的抱歉。”
[考點] being not helpful to you “對貴方無幫助”
[解題關鍵] 句子本身不難,但翻譯成通順的漢語卻非易事,試比較:“請接受我們由于不能幫助你們而致的歉意。”;“由于對貴方無幫助,我們特致歉意,請接受。”這些譯文都不如上述[譯文]簡練、通順。
5.We hope you will understand the circumstances which compel us to decline you after.[譯文] “我們不得不拒絕貴方報盤,希望能理解我方的處理。”
[考點] 限制性定語從句的處理
[解題關鍵] 試題本身不難理解:which引出的從句是circumstances的限制性定語從句。如果譯成:“我們希望你們能理解迫使我們拒絕貴方報盤的情況”,顯然,這樣的譯文很累贅,與中文商務信函語體的特點——簡練、明確不相符合。如果將“迫使”引申為“不得不”,把“情況”改成“處境”,再把限制性定語作為非限制性定語從句處理,譯文就大不一樣了(參見上述[譯文])。

[考點] continued favors “繼續支持”
[解題關鍵] 本題的難點是如何理解與翻譯favor一詞。Favor既可用作名詞,又可用作動詞。用作名詞時,意思為“好感,喜愛;[寵,偏]愛;贊成[同];恩惠”等。這里取其“贊成”這一意思,引申為“支持”,符合漢語搭配“繼續支持”。
7.We appreciate your offer of July 4, but we must point out that the proposed quotation will leave us little or no margin of the profit.Couldn’t you grant us a 5% cut in your price so that we may send you large orders?

[解題關鍵] 深刻理解試題內容:proposed quotation當然指的是對方提出的報價;leave us(sth,)“留給我們?”,換言之,“使我們得到?”;litter or no margin of the profit = little of the profit “無利潤”和no margin of the profit“無余利”,總括起來就是“無利可圖”所以得出了上述[譯文]。
5.漢英翻譯
這部分試題主要考核學生綜合應用英語的能力。該試題由商務信函中的一些單句組成。做這漢譯英試題和做英譯漢試題一樣,首先要正確理解試題的內容,并在此基礎上選用商留英語信函中的相應句型、詞匯來表達。特別要注意詞的搭配關系。切忌只顧詞義,不顧詞性,按漢語結構,逐字進行排列組合。做完這部分試題后,同樣要根據原文仔細較對,看是否有錯誤、漏譯或用詞不當的地方。一定要從英語的角度來閱讀譯文,檢查句子結構是否成立,詞性是否用錯,搭配是否正確。整個譯文要符合英語的表達習慣,切忌中國式英語(Chinese English)。例如:
1.我們相信這批寄售貨物將完好抵達,并使貴方完全滿意。
[譯文] The consignment, we feel sure, will arrive in good condition and prove to be entirely satisfactory.[考點] 完好抵達;使滿意
[解題關鍵] 試題中所說的“完好抵達”,說的是寄售貨物抵達時的狀態,沒有受損,和裝船時一樣,所以只能譯成arrive in good condition,而不能譯成arrive well;至于“使滿意”,當然可以直接譯為satisfy,但是這樣就有中國式英語之嫌。而最主要的是,這里所說的“使貴方完全滿意”是指寄售貨物:到達不受損失這一事實讓銷售代理商感到滿意,而寄售貨物本身令銷售代理商是否感到滿意問題不是主要的,所以這里譯成prove to be entirely satisfactory是比較合適的(參見[譯文])。至于“我們相信”,可以像[譯文]中作插入句處理,當然也可以We fell [are] sure(或We believe [think] that the consignment will arrive in good condition and prove to be entirely satisfactory.)
2.至于索賠,我們的保險公司只接受超過實際損失5%的部分。
[譯文] As to claim, our insurance company will only accept the part of loss that is over 5%.[考點] 超過實際損失5%的部分。
[解題關鍵] 整個句子應譯成英語里的主+謂+賓句型,即?company will accept?the part?;其中“超過實際損失5%的”是修飾part的定語,該定語的翻譯是關鍵;“超過”又是關鍵中的關鍵:是用動詞surpass, excel, exceed或用系表結構be over。這些詞語都有“超過”這一含義。但所指的事物以及使用的場合都不相同:surpass和excel指的“超過”是“比?強”的意思,在此意義上兩者可以互換。如:Our company surpassed [excelled] all the other in the turnover in this region.(在本地區我公司的營業額超過了所有其他公司。)顯然這兩個詞在本試題中都不能用。Exceed和be over指“超過(一定量或允許范圍),在此意義上兩者也可以互換。”如:The cost will not exceed [be over]£50.(成本不超過50英鎊。)可見,這兩詞在本試題中均可選用。至于“實際損失”,在英語中用loss一詞表達足夠了,前面不必要寫成practical(或realistic, factual)loss,這是中國式英語,英語中沒有這一說法。
3.因為我們的價格是很實際的,我們確難同意把價格降低到你方表示的水平。
[譯文] As our price is very realistic, we can hardly agree to reduce our price to the extent you(have)indicated.[考點](價格是)很實際的;確難同意;(降低到)你方表示的水平
[解題關鍵] 英語中“實際價格”多用realistic price,但也有用practical price的時候;“確難同意”即可用can hardly agree,也可用cannot agree,但前者修飾效果好一些,也可用level。因此,本試題除上述[譯文]外,也可譯成:As our price is very practical, we cannot agree to cut down our price to the level you(have)indicated.4.定貨太多,到年底交貨的產品都已售完
[譯文] We are heavily committed and have sold out all the goods to be delivered up to the end of this year.[考點] 定貨太多;到年底;交貨的產品
[解題關鍵] 英語中“定貨太多”可用be heavily committed或have quite a lot of orders,當然,前者語言簡練;“到年底”可用up to the end of this year 或 by the end of this year;“交貨的產品”可用the goods to be delivered或the goods delivered。因此,除上述[譯文]外,本試題還可以譯成:We have quite a lot of orders and have sold out all the goods delivered by the end of this year.5.由于這臺設備是按你方提供的規格制造的,請定貨時同時支付30%的押金。
[譯文] Since this new equipment is to be manufactured to your specification, a deposit of 30% of the total value should accompany your order.[考點] 按?規格制造;定貨時同時支付?押金
[解題關鍵] 英語中“按?規格制造”可以寫成manufacture to(according to, in accordance with)? specification;“定貨時同時支付?押金”可以寫成:a deposit?should accompany your order 或You should pay a deposit when making an order, 但前者語言更簡練。(參見上述[譯文])
6.撰寫英文書信
撰寫英文書信的目的是測試學生在語篇上綜合應用英語表達思想的能力,外貿函電考試中書信撰寫,實際是一封中文商務信件的漢譯英。做這部分試題和漢譯英試題一樣,首先要確定書信的內容:是詢問、報盤、訂貨、或裝運、保險、索賠等,亦或是其他商務問題。在此基礎上選用相應外貿書信中的相應句型和有關的詞匯、慣用法來進行翻譯。切忌逐字逐句進行硬譯。詞匯選定以后,要特別注意該詞的詞性,否則寫成的句子在英語中就不成立。做完這部分試題,一定要根據原文仔細校對,看有無漏譯、錯譯或用詞不當的地方。按照英語語法和書信文體來檢查整篇書信,重點放在句型結構、詞性、詞的搭配是否正確,是否符合英語的表達習慣。撰寫英文書信時,既可采用平頭式,也可采用縮進式。例如:

Boodle & Dunthorne 是一家珠寶制造和零售商。Joloda 制造卡車裝貨設備。兩家公
司總部都在英國利物浦。首席執行官為 Martin Wainwright(Boodle & Dunthorne)和Wainwright Kordel(Joloda)。
