“嫦娥”的名字似乎司空見慣，中國人熟悉，不少外國人也知道。只是有一次，給某個外國朋友寫信，順便提起即將到來的中秋節(jié)，談到嫦娥奔月，“Chang E”拼寫出來以后，看著有些奇怪。于是心里不確定起來，趕緊查查正規(guī)的寫法。

網(wǎng)上搜索更讓人眼花繚亂。有“Chang E”、“Chang’e”、“Chang-Er”等若干寫法，前兩種是用得比較多的。第二種一般用在“嫦娥一號”發(fā)射的報道中。又翻看了一本叫《New Larousse Encyclopedia of Mythology》的英文書，是關于神話的百科全書，里面也有嫦娥的傳說，用的卻是“Ch'ang-o”的寫法：“Ch'ang-o, the goddess of the Moon ……Ch'ang-o took up her abode in the Moon in order to escape her husband's wrath after she had swallowed the drug of immortality which had been given to him by the gods。”

嫦娥原名姮娥，原是后羿之后妃玄妻。西漢時，為避漢文帝劉恒的諱而改名嫦娥。如此說來，“嫦”并非嚴格意義上的姓氏。看來，“嫦娥”的英文名沒有固定的寫法，具體哪個更標準一些，可以參照英文名的標準寫法來看。

一類是最簡潔直白的，即把中文名字的漢語拼音寫出來。姓和名中間空一格，姓、名首字母分別大寫，復姓不分開。例如：張宇東Zhang Yudong、歐陽修Ouyang Xiu。也有些寫法是將姓、名的順序調換，但以現(xiàn)在的普遍慣例來看，還是前一種較為常見。

一類是姓氏大寫。現(xiàn)在國際比較正式的場合普遍接受的正確寫法是：姓氏全部大寫，位置在前面，名字在后面，首字母大寫。如：張宇東ZHANG Yudong、歐陽修OUYANG Xiu。這樣也解決了姓氏、名字有時顛倒著寫帶來的混亂麻煩。

還有一類是使用連字符。外國人大都知道我們是把姓放在前面，名在后。所以按中文的順序一般不會引起誤會，也有利于別人識別和使用。現(xiàn)在很多很權威的雜志包括TIME和新聞周刊有時候喜歡使用連字符。

小心不懂文化差異而犯忌

由于文化差異，有些名字引申義不雅，使用的時候一定要慎重，最好請教對西方文化比較了解的朋友、老師來把把關。

一般英文名不改變原有的中文名姓氏

姓氏是一個家族傳統(tǒng)、血脈的傳承，即使起個英文名，一般也不會把中文名里的姓氏改掉。如司徒Stone、李Lee的寫法不推薦，還是應該堅持用原字的拼音形式。

不要用錯名字的詞性或性別傾向
