Though two years have been passed since I read the novel---A Tale of Two Cities for the first time, I still could remember the main content and the features of main characters clearly.Especially, I still can’t forget a famous paragraph that point out the historical characteristics of the times profoundly.That is ‘It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.We had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way--in short.The period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.’

The man who impressed me most is Carton.In my opinion, carton is a man who is self-abased but have great love.Carton loved Lucy so deeply that he would like to pay for his own life resolutely for her happy life.Maybe it seemed that it was very silly and unreasonable ,however, on the contrary ,I think Carton is so wise not only because the final choice he made but from beginning to end he was wise and sensitive while he always hided himself the slovenly image.But gold will always shine.Nothing can cover his light when the moment that he walked to the guillotine calmly.I am full of admiration and gratitude for him because he let me still believe something beautiful and could touch our heart still exist.He choose such a ending as the end of life that drift from place to place.But, anyhow I am sure that he is capable of good things, gentle things, even magnanimous things”

Of course, his character was build under certern environment.Long ago, when he had been famous among his earliest competitors as a youth of great promise, he had followed his father to the grave.His mother had died, years before.These solemn words, which had been read at his father's grave, arose in his mind as he went down the dark streets, among the heavy shadows, with the moon and the clouds sailing on high above him.In a word , blood lead to more bloodshed, hatred brings more hatred.And only love, only through love and in love, is the ultimate salvation of man.

“A tale of two cities” is one of Dickens's most important representative works.The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the

sinister......The complex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge,but take the life as the

price.As an outstanding writer,in Dickens's work,the language skill is essential.Each kind of rhetoric technique,like the analogy,the

exaggeration,the contrast,the humorous,and the taunt are handled skillfully,and the artistry of the work is also delivered the peak.“A tale of

two cities” has its difference with the general historical novel, its

character and the main plot are all fictionalizes.With the broad real background of the French Revolution,the author take the fictional character Doctor Manette's experience as the main clue,interweaves the unjust charge, love and revenge three independences but also incident cross-correlation stories together,the plot is criss-crossed,and the clue is complex.The author use insert narrates,foreshadowing,upholstery and so many techniques,causes the structure integrity and strictness,the plot winding anxious and rich of theatrical nature,it displayed the remarkable

Crazily, but truthfully, I finished reading the most part of the novel “A Tale of Two Cities” in just one day.Lost in the story, I felt like being together with the characters and experiencing the same exciting events.Soon it came to an end.To tell you my feelings, its infinite sadness and a strong emotion that can drive me to cry.“A tale of two cities” is one of Dickens's most important representative works．The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution，intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel，and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes．The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on，which displayed people's great strength．
