I have to admit, though, there are advantages to a new restaurant.Our

neighborhood could certainly use the jobs the restaurant would provide.Not only that, the money neighborhood residents would earn there would likely be spent at other neighborhood businesses.This would give a boost to those businesses and make our neighborhood more prosperous.A new restaurant would also attract a lot of people to our neighborhood.They could see what a nice area this is to live.That might attract new residents to the neighborhood.That would be a good thing, because we've been losing residents to the suburbs the last couple of years.There are a lot of details to consider, but all in all, I support the idea of this new restaurant in our neighborhood.

今天我們在這里討論有關研究生考試的問題。在考試中，英語這一門科目是必考的，但是，當英語成績單獨劃線以后，也就意味著英語考試成為研究生選拔的主要依據。對于這一觀點，我方認為，考研英語單獨劃線是不利于研究生的選拔的。

首先，英語只是一門外語，它所起到的作用只是充當學習研究的工具，并不是學習研究的主要科目。而眾所周知，研究生是我國的最高學歷，其性質分為學術型研究生和專業學位研究生。學術型研究生的培養目標是高層次學術研究型專門人才，專業學位研究生的培養目標是掌握某一專業（或職業）領域堅實的基礎理論和寬廣的專業知識，具有較強的解決實際問題的能力，能夠承擔專業技術或管理工作，具有良好的職業素養的高層次應用型專門人才。無論是哪種，我們都不得不承認，國家的教育培養目標是培養專業人才。而當英語單獨劃線以后，英語成績成為選拔研究生的主要依憑，專業課的成績反而次之，這種本末倒置的現象會讓更多的考研學子過多的關注英語而忽視專業課不說，從國家角度出發，如此選拔出來的研究生真的是最初所需要的研究型人才嗎？這樣說來，只要英語流利，而專業很差也無所謂是嗎，我們國家到底是要選拔一群翻譯家，文學家，還是外交家呢？

其次，英語單獨劃線對廣大的考研學子來說也不盡公平。對于很多學生來說，英語是一門外語，是他們共同的短板，這些莘莘學子苦讀數十年，在自己所專一的領域有所專長，取得了較好的成績，現在考研英語要單獨劃線，這就意味著，假如，一個考生英語考了45分，總分考了355分而沒被錄取，而另一個考生英語考了60分，總分330分被錄取了，這對前一位考生來說公平嗎，自己在專業所取得的優秀成績因為英語這一短板而被否決，而幸運者卻由于自己的外語優勢而成功上位，這是否又助長了大家從此忽略專業課以英語為主業的不良風氣呢？

為了國家能選拔優秀專業人才，同時，也讓廣大考生懷才有遇，我方堅持認為考研英語不應單獨劃線，我們應該建議，統一英語的考研分數線，可以適當提高基礎課和專業課的分數線，把考生的主要興奮點引導到專業功底的打造和專業知識的修煉及學術思維的培養上來。英語從始至終只是一門工具學科，在這樣一個全球化時代有巨大的社會價值，但請注意它并不是萬能的也不是無人不需的，所以我們一致認為考研英語單獨劃線是絕對絕對絕對不利于優秀研究生的選拔的。
