漓江屬于珠江水系，發源地在桂林北面興安縣境內的貓兒山。貓兒山是史稱五嶺之一的越城嶺主峰，海拔2238米，號稱中南最高峰，漓江由貓兒山下的涓涓細流匯集而成興安縣境內至今還保留著秦始皇時期修建的“靈渠”，它是中國第一條人工運河，史稱“興安靈渠”，它把漓江的水和湘江的水連接起來。湘江在湖南境內，屬于長江水系。大自然賦予了它特定的方式。大家都知道，“世上無水不東流”是因為地球西部地形高，東部地形低所造成的，但惟有湘江的水是由南向北而去，漓江的水由北向南而下，所謂“湘漓分流”、“相離而去”，漓江故此得名，大概就是這個意思吧。另外漓江的“漓”字，在字典里面是清澈、透明的意思，大概也是漓江名稱最佳的含義。漓江在中國的歷史上曾經起過重大作用，靈渠開鑿之后，它溝通了嶺南與中原的聯系，對秦王朝統一中國的大業，以及對桂林乃至西南地區政治、經濟、文化、軍事都有深刻的影響。

竹江景區

（群龍戲水）在前面右側臨水的山壁，有幾根懸垂倒掛的鐘乳石柱，它們形態嵯峨，形神兼備，仿佛像幾條飲江的巨龍，它們的身子，隱藏在山壁內，只有龍頭向著水面。第當春夏水漲，龍頭便會吐出雨露。傳說這幾條龍是天帝派它們到漓江邊來采集桂花香精的。很久以前這些山坡上長滿了桂花，那沖天的香氣直貫天宮，引得嫦娥也想偷偷下凡，天帝為之震怒，于是派來了這幾條神龍，要把這桂花的香氣全部吸盡帶回了天宮。誰知道神龍到了這時原形被這里的景色迷住了，它們不僅沒有帶走人間的桂花，反而引來了天庭的雨露，它們把雨露傾注在崖壁下的潭里，從此這個潭就叫沉香潭。沉香潭的水灌溉了漓江兩崖的四方土地，在這片土地上的桂花樹枝葉長得更加繁茂了，漓江八月兩岸到處都是桂花香，怪不得人們都把這片地方叫桂林呢！

草坪景區

（鑼鼓鴛鴦灘）彎彎曲曲的漓江，有一個灣就有一個灘，有人數了一下，從桂林到陽朔，83公里的水程，共360.5個灘。灘頭灘尾水比較淺，漓江從灘頭上流過，發出淙淙的響聲，這響聲仿佛是天宮中的仙樂，聽了叫人飄飄欲仙。其實這哪里是仙樂，這是漓江的音樂，請大家看，左岸邊有兩塊大石頭，一個像圓鼓，一個像金鑼，當地的村民們都叫它們鑼鼓石。右岸邊兩座拔秀的小山柱，仿佛是一對鑼錘和鼓棍，大家仔細聽，仿佛還有一對鴛鴦在唱歌呢。

楊堤景區

（八仙游江）右前方，山到了這里突兀而起，云到了這里虛無縹緲，給人以幻境的感覺。這一帶山巒疊嶂，氣勢雄偉，前面一組8個山頭，很像我國古代神話傳說中的8個仙人，靠近江邊頭光光的是鐵拐李，旁邊的是曹國舅，下面戴帽子的是河仙姑，接下來的是張果老、韓湘子、呂洞賓、藍采和、鐘漢離，正好8個。據說有一天，8位仙人各顯神通，飄洋過海，結伴而行，他們來到了漓江邊上，看到了美麗的漓江風光，這里碧水青峰，田園似錦，于是他們決定留下來，這個景點取名叫“八仙游江”。

興坪景區

（溯江鯉魚）前邊有一個山峰又長又大，橫亙在漓江邊，整個山形很像鯉魚，魚頭朝右，魚尾朝左，魚嘴跟右邊的這座山峰相連，在高高的魚背上有一組小山峰構成了魚鰭，真是一條活靈活現的大鯉魚，那是世界上最大的一條鯉魚，誰也沒有辦法稱它的重量。那鰭魚又像一只小哈巴狗，也就是我們通常說的獅子狗，它的頭部、眼睛、四肢都很清楚，真是可愛極了。

桂林山水有四大特點：山青、水秀、洞奇、石美，那么漓江除此之外還有瀑布、流泉、險灘、竹林四絕。有人說：漓江不僅僅有這睦，而且還有怪、迷、奇、絕四大特點，那就是古榕之怪，畫山之奇，冠巖之迷，半邊渡之絕。凡此種種，不一而足，真是仁者見仁，智者見智。

陽塑景區

（“帶”字石刻）碧蓮峰上碑文石刻很多，特別是山腰石壁上刻有清代光緒年間一個草書“帶”子更是令碧蓮生逃。其字形結構意味深長，人稱一字詩，竟包含了“一帶山河，少年努力”八個字的韻味和筆意。從欣賞這個“帶”字，最后我們應該總結漓江的精神就是一個“妙”字，漓江風景的自然美，妙不可言。
