i have a dream

i am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

five score years ago, a great american, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the emancipation proclamation. this momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. it came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

but one hundred years later, the negro still is not free. one hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. one hundred years later, the negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. one hundred years later, the negro is still languished in the corners of american society and finds himself an exile in his own land. and so we've come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

in a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. when the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every american was to fall heir. this note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the “unalienable rights” of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” it is obvious today that america has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. instead of honoring this sacred obligation, america has given the negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked “insufficient funds.”

but we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. we refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. and so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

we have also come to this hallowed spot to remind america of the fierce urgency of now. this is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. now is the time to make justice a reality for all of god's children.

it would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. this sweltering summer of the negro's legitimate discontent will not pauntil there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. and those who hope that the negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to busineas usual. and there will be neither rest nor tranquility in america until the negro is granted his citizenship rights. the whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

but there is something that i must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: in the proceof gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterneand hatred. we must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. we must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

the marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. and they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

however, we need dreams. they nourish our spirit; they represent possibility even when we are dragged down by reality. they keep us going. most successful people are dreamers as well as ordinary people who are not afraid to think big and dare to be great. when we were little kids, we all dreamed of doing something big and splashy, something significant. now what we need to do is to maintain them, refresh them and turn them into reality. however, the toughest part is that we often have no ideas how to translate these dreams into actions. well, just start with concrete objectives and stick to it. don‘t let the nameless fear confuse the eye and confound our strong belief of future. through our talents, through our wits, through our endurance and through our creativity, we will make it.

My topic is Honesty.As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News, I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon’s tooth. This is a true story.

65 years ago, James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.

In the late 1930s, when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao, he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon’s mouth.

He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 20xx, he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome.

When James visited Qingdao, I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one’s error.

Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. I would like to say to all of my friends: Let’s be honest people of good moral character.

今年是我到三中的第十個年頭，在這十年中，我目睹了學校的發展，也經歷了自身的成長和教學理念的改變。經歷了由傳統教學到現代課堂教學的改革。這是一個探索而又不容易的過程。記得剛到三中時，大家都怕別人去聽課，怕上公開課，對一些集體活動也不是那么有激情，當然這其中也包括我們英語組。但到現在，我們高中英語組的所有老師都不怕別人來聽課。也不怕上公開課，甚至敢主動邀請學校領導去聽課。學校有什么集體活動，都是積極配合。同行之間能夠毫無保留地互相幫助。這樣的局面確實讓人欣喜，也讓我感動。

我們教研組之所以能夠和諧，奮進，充滿活力和激情，首先得感謝學校領導讓我們以教研組為單位在同一個辦公室進行集體辦公，這使得我們整個教研組各個成員之間得以零距離接觸。這樣方便大家彼此了解，溝通，而且更有利于大家進行集體備課，交流意見。為教研組的發展搭建了一個很好的平臺。

其次，作為教研組長，要尊重每一位老師，因為他們是有血有肉，有思想，有感情的人。要善于發現他們身上的閃光點。每個老師身上都有值得我學習的.地方。從他們的身上我學會了工作要敬業，更要專業；做人要熱心，大度，開朗。更重要的是不要太計較，心里要有陽光，因為一個人內心出充滿陽光，他看到的世界便是陽光的；如果他內心充滿黑暗，他看到的世界便是黑暗的。只要我們不太計較個人得失，認同了我們是一個集體，一切都是為了這個集體服務，做起事來便沒有什么困難的。讓我很感動的是現在高一年級英語備課組，不論有什么任務，他們從不推辭，都是欣然接受。而尤其讓我感動的是高三英語組備課組長李杰老師，他總是說“有事你說話，我們全力配合教研組的工作。”在這些老師的感染下，現在的高中英語教研組都有了一個共識。那就是我們是一個集體，是和諧，勤奮的集體。大家都只想將我們組搞的更好。

另外，教研組的建設和發展，其實是老師不斷成長和自我提升的過程。需要時間，需要認同與鼓勵，也需要激勵。讓我印象最深的是當初建博客的事。我只說了一句話：“誰在一個星期內建成了博客，我請他吃早飯。”結果不到一個星期，他們都有了自己的博客。隨后便有了很多優秀的博文。是老師們缺那么幾塊錢的早餐錢嗎?不！只是他們的勞動需要認同與肯定。在此我想說，如果學校能多些實質性的鼓勵與肯定，我想我們以后的教研氛圍會更濃，教學效果會更好的 。

還有，我認為教研組的建設與穩定，確實需要一些集體活動。這樣的活動會起到粘和劑的作用，將每一個老師緊緊地團結在一起。我們英語組的和諧，奮進與充滿激情，都是在這樣的活動中得以體現的。

最后我想說的是，網絡教研真的是一個很好的平臺。在這里，老師之間可以互相探討和交流。平常沒時間，沒機會說的話或者教學心得在這個空間里都能得到展現。如果有更多的領導能到這個空間里來和老師交流，溝通，就會發現，其實我們的老師是熱愛我們的工作的，是敬業的，也是專業的 。只是他們的熱情需要進一步的點燃，他們的工作需要認同，肯定與鼓勵罷了。

作為英語老師，我也盼望著與您攜手，與您交流，共同探討孩子成才的問題。英語學不好，在今后的社會中就難以立足。我想努力，這就需要您的支持和合作。高中的英語教材（5a）與大學英語教材是配套的，這就意味著：現在的英語成績不僅直接影響孩子的期末考試與升學，還影響著孩子將來的英語學習！

半年的共同學習，使我半喜半憂，喜的是，我們高一三班的學生都很聰明，接受能力強，學習起來顯得很輕松，讓我覺得憂慮的是：部分孩子對英語不太重視。（包括與個別家長的交流中，發現有家長也未重視）可能這里也包含許多家長覺得英語不太好輔導，你說語文數學吧，還懂點，這英語吧，還真是不好不懂裝懂，所以導致相當一部分的孩子英語基礎打得很不牢，個別的孩子甚至拼讀、書寫、背誦等學習英語的好習慣還沒有很好的養成，需要從頭開始。但是，孩子們上課時的專注同時也讓我感到欣喜。認真的孩子一定能把英語學好！

我確信：英語要學好和智商無關，學不好英語的人都是懶惰的人。

新教材與初中的教材跨度很大，要求也上了幾個臺階，對孩子們具有比較大的難度。細心的家長可能就會發現，高中的課本和初中的課本相比，無論是從詞匯量，語法還是課文篇幅的長短都有了明顯的區別，初中的內容相當簡單，它簡直就是三年級知識的鞏固，稍微有所延伸，而高一一下子就接觸并需要掌握兩種時態。所以，有些同學很不能適應，初中學得輕松，還考好成績，怎么到了高一不行了，這樣的現象很普遍，說到底，還是好的習慣沒有養成，不夠勤奮。在這里，我要點名表揚幾位學生，她們學習態度端正，上課認真，書寫工整，正因為如此，無論什么考試都能取得很好的成績。另外我還要提幾個同學，他們的潛力很大，但因為還不夠認真刻苦，所以沒有發揮出自己最好的水平，希望家長能夠配合老師，把孩子的成績抓上去。我堅信：如果您的孩子在您的支持和我的指導下能夠及時完成我布置的`任務，那么一定能學好。要教導您的孩子一開始就要有吃苦耐勞的精神。堅持嚴謹的學習作風，成績馬上就會見效。

目前的形勢決定了英語學科的重要性，請各位家長務必重視英語這一學科，你們思想上重視了，無形中也給孩子以熏陶，重視與不重視肯定是完全不同的，在英語課堂上，大部分學生都能很活躍的回答老師提出的問題，積極跟著老師拼讀單詞，朗讀課文。其實這也制造了一種假象，學生認為自己常常被老師提問，認為自己能夠回答老師的問題，于是認為自己的英語學得很不錯，自我感覺特別好。于是下課后在英語上花的時間就少了。其實要學好英語，課上占40%，其余的60%還需要學生在課后不斷的鞏固，加深記憶。在課上老師更多的是教授新知識，當然課上也會有少量的時間鞏固新學的知識。但是這些時間是公共的時間，而不是每個學生私有的時間，所以不可能照顧到每個學生，不可能讓所有學生都達到相同的程度。況且每個學生對新知識得接受能力都是不同的，有的可能當堂就已經有很深的印象，很難忘記，但這肯定是很少的。大部分學生都只能是初步接觸了新知識，要真正接受新知識還要學生在課后多下功夫，不然肯定會和別的同學拉下差距。

那么在課后學生到底該怎么做才能把其余的60%補回來呢？英語畢竟不是我們自己的語言，大多數學生除了英語課其余時間根本就不會想到要說英語，所以，在課后一定要主動抽時間為自己補習英語。學好英語，不外乎就是在聽，說，讀，寫這些方面下功夫。

首先說一下聽，每個學生都有和書相配套的磁帶，可是請各位家長檢查一下自己的子女的英語磁帶，有多少學生的磁帶還是和剛發的時候一樣的，根本就沒有聽過。不要說另外買什么英語聽力磁帶或者英語學習的碟片了，連自己手頭的磁帶都不去聽，光靠上課聽一點點的磁帶，學生的聽力根本就不能有什么發展。不會聽就不能說，而說白了，學了英語就是要說，那不是白學了么？聽錄音機跟讀，目的應該是兩種，一種同學是上課沒有完全消化，聽錄音是補充學習的過程，另外一種是提高自己的聽力和口語表達能力，要學生盡力地去模仿錄音機里的發音，從而使自己的聽力和口語都提高一個層次。

接下來是說，英語是一門語言，學了就是要說，要和別人交流。我們學的英語不應該是啞巴英語，要讓每個學生學會勇敢地說出來。在課上我會用各種方法來刺激學生，激發他們說英語的積極性，大多數學生也確實做得很好。可是班級里人多，對每個人來說，說的機會就少。所以下課也要說；放學回家也要說。在學校，我鼓勵學生把所學的英語對話運用到生活中去，這樣有更真實的情景，更能讓學生有發揮的余地。在家里，希望家長也能鼓勵學生說英語，也許你會說你自己也聽不懂，請不要這樣想，其實學生需要是你的鼓勵，你聽了他們說的只要簡單表揚一句，他們就會很滿足了。有時候你們也可以不懂裝懂，或者還可以讓學生反過來教你，他們會覺得很自豪，因為自己所學得派上了用場。

接下來是讀。有句話：“讀書破萬卷，下筆如有神。”學英語也是這樣，很多家長也明白，學英語要培養語感，也就是語言的感覺，如果有很好的語感，那么不管是說話，做題目，還是寫文章，都很輕松，很簡單了。那么語感怎么來呢？就是靠讀出來的。一定要讓學生養成每天讀英語的習慣，這是學英語的最基本的學習習慣了。每天早上一定要讀20分鐘左右的英語，哪怕有時候時間來不及了，即使是遲到也要讀，并且每天都堅持，絕不因任何原因間斷。無論什么事情都貴在堅持嘛。如果你的子女還沒有養成這樣的學習習慣，請你一定要督促他，剛開始也許會比較難，時間久了，就會習慣成自然。就像早上起來要刷牙洗臉一樣，要讓他們把讀英語當作每天必做的一件事。

最后是寫。主要就是單詞短語的默寫，這是學英語的必經之路。單詞往往背過就容易會忘記，所以要不斷的背默寫，不斷的翻新，這是沒有辦法的。背單詞的時候要邊拼邊寫，嘴巴和手都要動起來，嘴上十遍不如手上一遍。家長在這里要作好檢查督促的工作，不要用不懂英語來幫助你的孩子學會偷懶，你可以報中文，讓你的孩子默寫，然后對照書本批改訂正，每天堅持的話，你一定會有意想不到的效果。還有句型，學生應該在課上領會句型的意思和運用方法。課后還需要通過多讀課文，多練習才能鞏固所學的句型。所以請各位家長不光要注重孩子背單詞短語的情況，還要讓他重視句子的重要性。
