中國古人為何沒能發現地球是圓的

他設計并制造了一系列非常有趣的機械，絕對可以算是當時的“黑科技”，可能是這些作品太過震撼，以至于在人們心中留下很多關于他的“傳說”。

一、“渾天儀”與地心說——大學霸張衡一句話帶來的誤解近來開始為騰訊·大家專欄寫作“這不科學”這個欄目，又把以前讀過的一些科學史的相關書籍拿出來翻一翻，加之頭二日與友人閑談，才發現有些誤解直到今天也還存在著。其中之一便跟東漢著名的大學者張衡有關。張衡，字平子，東漢南陽西鄂人，他與同時代的著名書法家崔瑗是一對好朋友。崔瑗評價他的治學態度是“敏而好學，如川之逝，不舍晝夜”，而其為人性格則是“體性溫良，仁愛篤密，與世無傷”。這樣看來，張衡不僅是個好學生，而且為人也堪稱是謙謙君子的典范。印有張衡像的郵票 他在文學上，頗有成就。當時的文人都喜歡作賦，抒發自己情懷和政治理想，像司馬相如寫過的《子虛賦》，班固寫過的《兩都賦》，揚雄的《幽通賦》都非常的有名。張衡自己仿照班固的《兩都賦》寫下了《二京賦》，也仿照揚雄寫過《玄思賦》。正因如此出色的文采，他被后人尊為“漢賦四大家”之一。按照如今的觀點來看，張衡妥妥地可算是一個文科大學霸了，然而他的才華遠不止如此，因為他還是一個理工科大學霸！他設計并制造了一系列非常有趣的機械，絕對可以算是當時的“黑科技”，可能是這些作品太過震撼，以至于留下很多“傳說”。他能夠制造飛翔的木鳥，“假以羽翮，腹中施機，能飛數里”，這也就是說，這種機械裝上機翼和驅動裝置，便能夠飛出好幾里地之外。在這個意義上，可以說這玩意絕不僅僅是憑借風力的風箏。他還將當時久已不見的“指南車”給制造出來。《宋書·禮志五》記載，指南車據傳說是始于周公，制造出來以便使節或者軍隊在曠野中辨認方向所用，然而“至于秦、漢，其制無聞。后漢張衡始復創造”。可惜的是，張衡自己也沒有把他的設計圖流傳下來，以供后人學習。故而，兩晉時期的著名道士葛洪，在其作品《抱樸子·辨問》一篇中，對張衡如是評價道：“善刻削之尤巧者，則謂之木圣，故張衡、馬鈞于今有木圣之名焉。”由此可見，張衡在當時的人們看來，大概是魯班再世了吧！當然，張衡制造的最為著名的一件機械大概便是渾天儀了。其實，渾天儀并不是張衡獨創。在此之前，便有關于渾天儀的神話流傳，傳說在上古時期，堯登基為王的時候，封羲和為掌管天象的官員，而羲和則建造了一臺渾天儀以便測量時日。不過，傳說這臺渾天儀的制造方法一直被史官們保存，秘不示人。到了漢朝初年，一些人又開始重新制作它，以考察天象和歷法，之后又有人在這個裝置上面增加了“黃道”的標志。一直到了張衡這里，這個裝置已經發展到豪華的程度了。在《晉書·天文志》中有這樣的記載：張衡制造的渾天儀“具內外規、南北極、黃赤道，列二十四氣、二十八宿中外星官及日月五緯”，我們可以看到這個機械達到了相當復雜的水平。那么這個機械是怎么運轉的呢？按照書中的說法，主要是靠水力驅動，即“以漏水轉之于殿上室內，星中出沒與天相應”。除此之外，更為了不得的是，張衡還給這個渾天儀加裝了一個自動日歷功能！這個玩意叫作“瑞輪蓂莢”——其靈感源于一種傳說中的植物，據說這種植物從新月至滿月的階段，每天都會生出一個莢，而在月圓之后，每天都會掉一個莢。人們通過計算它身上的莢，便可知道這月過了多少天，而張衡的這個裝置便做到了“隨月虛盈，依歷開落”的效果。這樣一臺精密復雜的天文機械，背后肯定對應著一個宇宙模型。張衡自己寫了一個《渾天儀注》來闡明自己這臺機械的原理，以及他對宇宙的認識。書中寫道：“渾天如雞子，天體圓如彈丸，地如雞中黃，孤居于內，天大而地小。”然而恰恰是這句話，使得一些人對“渾天說”產生了誤解！渾天儀不少人認為，這段話意味著張衡已經認識到了“大地是球形的”。至于理由呢？可能他們覺得“地如雞蛋黃”，雞蛋黃是個球形的，那不就等于說大地也是球形的嘛？很多人會覺得中國的“渾天說”大概等于西方的“地心說”——在上個世紀的六十年代初，這個說法在國內還挺流行的。當然，這口鍋全讓今人背，似乎有些不公平。譬如，在《晉書·天文志》中，對張衡時代的“渾天說”有過這樣的記載：“前儒舊說天地之體，狀如鳥卵，天包地外，猶殼之果黃也；周旋無端，其形渾渾然，故曰渾天也。”然而，很多人想必沒有看過這段話后的一句：“周天三百六十五度五百八十九分度之百四十五，半覆地上，半在地下。”請讀者注意，在這段話之中，很明確地說了大地是分上下的，而在球型的“大地”上是沒有“上下”的概念。現在，讓我們再回到《渾天儀注》，接著往下看看張衡自己寫了什么，“天表里有水，天之包地，猶殼之裹黃。天地各乘氣而立，載水而浮”，而之后他還寫到了，“（周天）又中分之，則豐復地上，豐繞地下，故二十八宿半現半隱”。這也就是說，在張衡的眼中，雖然大地是包裹在天空中的，但同時它也是浮于水上的！然而這也恰恰說明了，張衡的“渾天說”與西方的“亞里士多德-托勒密”體系下的“地心說”是不可能相同的——水下是沒法住人的。另外還有一些比較明顯的證據也可以說明，張衡頭腦中的宇宙并不是“地心說”的那種系統。譬如，張衡在另外一本天文著作《靈憲》中，明確表達了他對天地形狀的看法：“天體于陽，故圓以動；地體于陰，故平以靜。”由此，我們基本可以肯定地說，在張衡的眼中，大地不僅不是個球，反而應當是“一大片兒地”。那么應當如何理解張衡的比喻呢？金祖孟先生曾如是評價道：“很明顯，張衡的比方，只是就天和地的內外關系和大小關系而說的，并沒有涉及天和地的形狀的問題。因此，大地呈球形的推論，顯然來源于對于張衡原話的曲解，自然是沒有說服力的。”

二、信仰的賭博還是科學的實踐？——地理大發現與地球說關于歐洲中世紀對“地球的形狀”的認識，安德魯·迪克森·懷特在他的《科學—神學論戰史》中這樣寫道：“我們發現，某些形式的這種觀念，成為了地理學研究的嚴重障礙。許多大膽的航海家們完全可以不畏海盜和暴風雨，但是一旦想到他們的船從一個敞開的口子里掉進地獄之中，他們就會發抖，有一種流傳很廣的信念認為，地獄是在大西洋的某個地方，但這個地方距離歐洲多遠不得而知。水手們的這種恐怖心理是哥倫布的偉大航行的主要障礙。” 那么，這種觀念到底是指的什么呢？ 懷特認為，中世紀流行的宇宙觀是“大地扁平的”——我們姑且稱之為“地平說”——在大地的上方則是天堂；在大地的下方則是地獄。然而，他也不得不承認另外一點，即“大地是球形的”這個學說——我們姑且稱之為“地球說”——仍然一直存在于歐洲中世紀時期，盡管基督教的早期很多神學家都反對它。這些反對者中就包括了盧修斯·拉克坦提烏斯（Lucius Lactantius），以及埃及的一名修道士科斯馬斯·因迪克普里茨（Cosmas Indicopleustes）。然而，懷特的這個說法真的站得住腳么？ 首先，與拉克坦提烏斯同一時期的神學家奧古斯丁和安布羅斯，都真心地贊成大地一個球形。盡管懷特試圖在自己的書中把這二人的態度描寫為“容忍”，但是不如讓我們來看一段原文再下論斷。奧古斯丁自己曾寫過一部關于《創世記》的解釋作品，名為《就字面而言，關于創世記的文章》（De Genesi ad Litteram）。其中便有這么一段文字： Cum enim totam terram adhuc aqua tegeret, nihil impediebat ut aquosa et globosa moles ex una parte faceret diem lucis praesentia, ex alia noctem lucis absentia...[雖彼時水仍覆蓋整個大地，然而沒有什么可以阻礙這一件事，即這整個一團如水如球之物，其一部分由于光照而為白晝，另一部分缺乏光照則為黑夜……（注：此句為筆者自譯）]我們可以看到，奧古斯丁在形容大地的時候，用了一個形容詞globosa, globosus——這個詞正是如今英文中的globe, global等詞的源頭，其意為“球形的”。因此，當大地這一“球體”一部分接受光照的時候，另外一部分不是浸沒在水中，而是處于光所缺乏的黑暗之中。地心說圖解實際上，奧古斯丁的態度才是古代基督教神學家的普遍態度。在眾多古代神學家中，只有很小的一部分人明確地反對過“地球說”。至于修道士科斯馬斯·因迪克普里茨，他的看法實際上恰恰是受到了同時期的猶太教以及來自東方的“地平說”的影響，由此才成為了一名“地平說”的擁護者。另外，這位修道士的影響力也并沒有懷特夸張的那么大。不過，有一件比較有趣的事情可以說一說，在中世紀認可“地平說”的人之中，雞蛋的比喻也被用來形容天地之間的關系！這似乎是來自于東方的證據。那么，為什么古代基督教會普遍堅持“地球說”呢？這就得要感謝古希臘的自然哲學傳統。基督教不完全是從自身的經典之中發展出來的“地球說”——在某種程度上，我們甚至可以說，《圣經》更像是一部“地平說”的經典。而恰恰是由于古代基督教神學家們認真學習了古希臘人的學說，才使得“地球說”在教會中得以保存，并且得以同《圣經》文本進行一番調和。如果之前有讀者讀過我關于伽利略和哥白尼的專欄文章，一定會知道，在神學家們主張“日心說”之前，在中世紀占據統治地位的天文學說，一直是以亞里士多德和托勒密二人的工作為基礎所構建出來的“地心說”。不過，眾所周知的是，無論是在“地心說”中，還是在“日心說”中，在當時的歐洲天文學家心中，大地終究是一個球，而非一片兒地…… 我也思考過，為何中國古代就沒有提出“地球說”，大概是因為中國古代的人們并沒有意識到“引力”的存在吧？或者說，中國古代的人們無法想象那些“頭朝下”的人們應當如何生活。我們可能必須要承認，“地球說”在一定程度上是反直覺的。不過，這些問題在古希臘人看來，就不算個事兒。大概因為古希臘人對數學的宗教式癡迷，所以他們認為球形與其它形狀不同——它象征了完善和諧的統一狀態。因此，一切神圣的星體包括地球在內，都必然是球形的！那么，他們又是如何解釋，那些生活在他們腳下的，并且“頭朝下”的人們呢？正如我在之前專欄文章寫過的：雖然希臘人沒有“引力”的概念，但是在亞里士多德的學說中，每個物體都有自己的“份量”，而且這個“份量”越大的東西便越會趨向“中心位置”。因此，在地球外面的是“氣元素”，而在地球中心的則是“土元素”——至于我們每個人，都是憑借自身的“份量”立于這個地球之上，無所謂上下。基督教一直接受的正是基于這個觀念的希臘自然學說。我們可以非常肯定的是，哥倫布在進行他的偉大航行之前，早就已經了解這些學說了，并且會將之奉為圭臬。這是因為當時的教科書就是如此寫的！

當時全歐洲通用的課本，乃是由在巴黎大學任教的“薩科霍波斯科的約翰尼斯”（Johannes de Sacrobosco）所寫的《論世界之星球》（De Sphaera Mundi）——你僅僅從名字上看，便知道這肯定是一本關于“地球說”的作品。懷特在自己的書中甚至還想引證但丁的作品《神曲》，來說明當時的人們多么恐懼于大海航行中遇到的來自“下方”的地獄。然而這只能愈加說明，在中世紀時期“地球說”才是普遍流行的看法。這是因為就連但丁都將“地球說”視為常識，并且他甚至還認為整個南半球為大海所覆蓋——在海中間有個小島，那里面便是“煉獄”（Purgatory）的所在。雖然哥倫布最后發現的不是真正的中國和印度，但是不得不承認的是，他與他的支持者們可從來沒有認為過大地是平的……

三、“地球說”引入中國——利瑪竇與“西學東漸” 我們其實不必苛責中國古人沒有發現“地球說”，也不必刻意認為中國古人已經發現了“地球說”。實際上，在當時整個世界中，除了希臘人這群奇葩之外，基本上所有人都沒有意識到大地可能是個球！如果沒有勇敢地接納希臘哲學的智慧，基督教恐怕一時半會也難以接受“地球說”。也許有人會說，日食或者月食的時候，中國古人在看到太陽或者月亮上的大地影子，應該能夠認識到大地是球形的。然而事情并非如此，中國古人認為，無論日食或者月食，那是主要是因為陰氣在侵襲陽氣。更形象一點兒地說，那道陰影倒更像是在清水中滴下一滴墨汁所達成的暈染效果，而非光所照不到的物體影子。那么，中國古人最早可能于何時接觸到歐洲的“地球說”呢？筆者料想最早可能是在宋元時期。不得不承認的是，在中世紀的時候，通過百年翻譯運動，穆斯林也早早地接受了“地球說”。當時掌管“智慧宮”的著名波斯學者阿勒·花喇子密（Al-khwarizmi），就已經為托勒密所寫的天文學著作《大全》（Almagest）一書做過注釋和摘要了。其后，隨著其后蒙古人崛起和征服，一些伊斯蘭教的國家被擊敗和收服，同時穆斯林的學術成果也被蒙古帝國所吸收進來。因此在宋元交戰之時，“地球說”頗有可能在此時進入了中國地區，不過似乎沒有留下什么過多的痕跡。等到“地球說”正式進入中國的時候，就應該已經到了明末清初之時了，這也要歸功于“西學東漸”的第一人利瑪竇（Matteo Ricci）。利瑪竇，號西泰，意大利的天主教耶穌會士，于明萬歷年間來華。至于他在中國的經歷，大家想必早都應該十分熟悉了，故而在此略過不表。利瑪竇像 當利瑪竇初入中國之時，恰逢日食發生，當時欽天監準確地報出了日食發生的時間，因此他對中國的天文學成就表示驚奇。然而漸漸地作為一個外人，在觀察過一段時間之后，利瑪竇對中國此時的天文學發生了質疑。對此，他寫下了這樣一些札記： “他們沒有一個人知道地球吸引著有重量的物體，或引力把物體引向地球。他們不知道大地整個表面大都居住著人。或者人們可以住在地球相反的兩面而不會跌下去；有些事情他們可以相信, 但有些事情他們許多人卻難以想象。” 當然，如果利瑪竇冷眼旁觀，他斷然也不會對中國的天文學做出任何貢獻。實際上，利瑪竇一直在為當時的中國繪制第一幅《山海輿地圖》，并且他在旁邊還做了中文的注解。地與海本是圓形，而合為一球，居天球之中，誠如雞子黃在清內。有謂地為方者，乃語其定而不移之性，非語其形體也…… 在這段話中，我們可以看到利瑪竇巧妙地引入了“前儒舊說”來為己證，然而他又將之與“地球說”進行了一番巧妙的調和——他引用了“雞蛋喻”，然而這次卻用來論證大地的形狀；又引用了“天圓地方”的說法，卻做了一番寓意性的解釋。他所作的解釋，正好與中國古代天文學傳統相互顛倒了，但是他卻幫助當時的中國人認識到了歐洲的天文學傳統。日后，在利瑪竇的士大夫朋友們的幫助之下，《山海輿地圖》又被復刻了很多版本，使得更多的人了解到了“地球說”。雖然彼時也有些士大夫認為中國自古已經有了“地球說”，但是卻沒法否認歐洲“地球說”所擁有數學上的優勢，因為歐幾里德的《幾何原本》也是由利瑪竇等人帶來的。總之，李約瑟博士（Joseph Needham）在其書《中國的科學與文明》中認為，利瑪竇等耶穌會士的來到對中國天文學的一個重大貢獻。在這個意義上，中國的天文學家們才開始逐步擺脫了所謂的“渾蓋之爭”，更多地思考起“地球說”。（本文原標題：《從渾天說至地球說——張衡、哥倫布與利瑪竇》）

第二篇：地球是圓的

如何證明地球是圓的？

能證明地球是球形的方法還有很多：

1.地平線為弧形；

2.海平面上的航船從遠方來，總是先看到桅桿、后看到船體，證明地球是球形；

3.日食、月食時，觀察月球，太陽食面總有一定的弧度。證明地球是圓；

4.麥哲侖的環球航行；

5.發生月偏食時，地球擋住一部分日光，使地球的影子投射在月面上，就像給地球照鏡子，使我們看見了地球的球體形狀。

最簡單的證明是拿一張人造衛星的照片，眼見為實。

地球是圓的這個猜想在人類文明早期（無論東西方）都是存在的，當然只是作為眾多猜想中的一支。第一個證明地面是有弧度的是古希臘數學家Eratosthenes，公元前240年，他已經應用巧妙的方法測算出地球的周長。Eratosthenes于每年夏至中午觀測太陽在埃及亞歷山大港的標桿的影子，其入射角為7.2度；同時在其東南面500英里(1英里約等于1.6千米)外的一處地方，陽光恰好射到一個枯井的底部。（參考提供的鏈接）

當然當時地球是圓的這種觀點并不是所有人接受，但隨著文明的進步，尤其是天文，航海的發展，這種觀點日益深入人心。麥哲倫的環球航行（從東往西航行最后回到出發地）從實踐上證明了地球是圓的。

牛頓力學的發展最終從理論上證明地球應該是圓的，而且所有天體都應該是圓的。萬有引力定律指出，物體之間是相互吸引的，組成物體的各個部分都有向中心靠攏的趨勢。力求取得離重心較近的位置。因此在不受干擾的情況下，物體必逐漸聚集為球形。

進入20世紀，航空航天的發展使得直接觀察地球變為可能。人們最終直接證明了地球是圓的。

注：嚴格而言，地球并非正圓形，由于自轉引起的離心作用，低緯度地區聚集了更多物質。因而顯得突出。使地球呈類似橢球的形狀。

教學反思：

《地球是個美麗的圓》：“地球”代表大自然，美麗的“圓”正是人們所向往的。在本節課上，我以地球為載體，以感受大自然、保護大自然、熱愛生活為主線，通過看、聽、賞、唱、創、演來展開教學。具體教學理念體現在以下幾個方面：

一、營造輕松活潑的開放式教學環境，注重“游戲”在音樂環境創設中的作用

所謂開放式的教學，就是運用教學規律，在有限的時間里，把課堂主動權交給學生，充分發揮學生的主動性，使他們融入到這個教學活動中來，更重要的是使他們綜合運用所學的各種文化知識，其形式可以多樣化，加以競賽游戲方式更能達到好的效果。在導入教學環節里，為了讓學生了解地球相關的地理知識，我沒有采用傳統的教學模式，教師提出問題，學生回答，而是由學生自主探索，自我發現問題，自我解答問題。“你問我答”的形式在學生的一問一答中潛移默化地掌握了知識，還增強了學生之間的團結合作，互幫互助的學習能力。采用競賽的方式，使學生的積極性得到提高，在輕松愉快的氣氛中進入教學環節。

二、創設視覺與聽覺互動的多媒體教學，提高學生發現美、欣賞美的能力

情感體驗階段是音樂欣賞過程中十分重要的環節。音樂共鳴之處在于傳情，但這種傳情不象文學作品和繪畫那樣能產生直觀的具體形象。再好的音樂也不可能清晰地解釋周圍的事物，不可能明確地表現物體的形象。充分利用現代化多媒體教學手段，將音樂、圖畫、情節有機地結合在一起，它能給音樂課創造聽覺形象與視覺形象的聯合體。在感受大自然的教學環節，我運用多媒體教學，給學生展示了一個鳥兒啼唱，微風低吟令人神往的維也納森林和一片生機勃勃的動物世界的畫面，讓學生耳聞目睹具體的視聽形象，調動學生多種感官的參與、體驗，使學生的對音樂的想象不再空洞，以此來激發學生感受美、理解美、欣賞美的情感。

三、注重音樂教學的感性認識上升到理性思考，豐富音樂教學的德育內涵

人類認識發展的一般規律是從感性認識到理性認識，由具體到抽象。音樂教育的主要特點是以情動人，以情感人，是以培養人的審美情感為主要目的。音樂是情感的藝術，學生在音樂課上得到更多的是一種感性認識，而在理性思考上就欠缺了一點，所以，在這節課上，我讓學生感受音樂的同時，隨時對學生提出一些理性的思考。在聆聽《一個真實的故事》環節，提出“在生活中如何對待身邊的動物”讓學生進行理性思考；在保護地球的環節，我提出了對環境污染現象的分析和如何保護我們的校園環境的理性思考。通過對學生提出的一系列的理性思考的問題，使這節課的德育教育更加豐富，學生在理性思考的同時，也懂得了許多的道理，了解環境保護的重要性，學會更加珍惜現在的美好生活，保持積極樂觀的生活態度。

四、以學生為本，更以學生的“發展”為主，注重培養學生的創新思維能力。

音樂教育是以學生為對象，以音樂藝術為載體，以審美教育為核心的基礎教育，其根本目的是培養全面發展的人。一切為了學生發展的現代教育理念，注重對學生音樂興趣的培養，也是學生學習音樂的主要動力。在以學生為主體的前提下，我認為更要注重學生的長遠發展，在這節課的教學上，我通過“你問我答”的游戲環節，把課堂交給學生，“你問”培養了學生對知識的研究探索能力，“我答”培養了自我學習的能力，讓學生成為課堂的主人，不僅激發學生的學習興趣，而且滿足了學生探究的需要，獲得認可與欣賞的需要，真正地做到以學生為本。在《校園環保倡議書》的創作活動中，以小組為單位鼓勵學生求新、求異，不僅培養學生的創新精神和實踐能力，而且既面向全體，又注重個性的發展，使學生獲得合作學習的快樂，為學生終身愛好音樂奠基，真正做到以學生的“發展”為主。
