為表達全國各族人民對青海玉樹地震遇難同胞的深切哀悼，國務院決定，2010年4月21日舉行全國哀悼活動，全國和駐外使領館下半旗志哀，停止公共娛樂活動。
不妨先將目光移到相似的歷史現場：2008年5月19日14時28分，神州大地，一片哀戚，國旗隨著國人的淚水緩緩垂下。此前，國務院決定2008年5月19日至21日
為全國哀悼日。這是新中國第一次為一場特大自然災害的死難者設立全國哀悼日，國旗也是第一次為普通的死難公民而半垂。在那一刻，我們讀懂了生命的尊嚴，讀出了國家對生命的尊重，也讀出了國家對生還者的慰藉和關愛。這一次，國旗將再一次為遇難同胞而降，它詮釋的是同樣的深意，但又表達了不一樣的信息。這表明國家對生命的尊重已經形成了制度性安排，如果說2008年的哀悼日是一種突破，是上下合力的結果，那么這一次則是一種自覺，是一種自然而然的眾望所歸。《中華人民共和國國旗法》第十四條第二款明確寫道，“發生特別重大傷亡的不幸事件或者嚴重自然災害造成重大傷亡時，可以下半旗志哀”。如今，我們欣慰地看到國旗法的這一條款得到一次又一次的踐行，公民的尊嚴在國旗半垂中得到舒展。
可以說，汶川大地震不只是汶川的災難，是整個國家的災難。同樣的道理是，玉樹地震不只是玉樹的傷痛，也是整個國家的傷痛。對于這兩起破壞性極大的地震，每個有良知的人無不感到悲傷。一定程度而言，公民的背后站立著整個國家，對遇難者表達尊重就需要葆有共同的悲戚之情，當國家以全國哀悼活動的方式來祭奠死難者，以下半旗的方式志哀，無疑就是把國人的悲戚上升到國家層面的悲戚，這是對死難者的最好禮遇。
全國哀悼是一種儀式，通過儀式我們能夠看到國家對生命的尊重，而實際上，在全國哀悼的背后，國家對生命的尊重在默默踐行。從汶川地震到玉樹地震，在地震發生后，國家快速集結各種力量加緊救援，“第一還是救人”，“早一秒鐘就可能救活一個人”，“只要有一線希望，就要用百倍的努力救人”……讓遇難者有尊嚴地安息，對生還者以制度善意加以保障，讓災區群眾有飯吃、有衣穿、有干凈水喝、有地方住，并且加快步伐有條不紊地進行災區重建，這同樣是對生命的尊重。
顯然，所有這些都展示一個國家所具有的大愛，都彰顯了一個大國的責任。雜文家邵燕祥說：“我們要以一定的儀式，向人們昭示并讓后代記住，要把中國建成現代法治國家，我們要尊重并捍衛每一個公民的生存權和發展權，尊重并捍衛與生俱來的一切公民權利和政治權利……”毋庸贅言的是，在尊重生命的旗幟下，最大程度地捍衛公民的各項權利，不僅能凝聚人心，更加喚起國人抗震救災的決心和重建家園的信心，還勢必更加激發國人的向心力和創造力，從而投入到整個國家的建設當中。
2009年2月2日，溫總理在劍橋大學演講時稱：千百年來，中華民族一次次戰勝了天災人禍，渡過了急流險灘，昂首挺胸地走到今天。深重的災難，鑄就了她百折不撓、自強不息的品格。中華民族的歷史證明了一個真理：一個民族在災難中失去的，必將從民族的進步中得到補償。面對頻仍的災難，我們需要重申對生命的尊重，還需要從災難中反芻教訓。誠然，一個清醒和充滿力量的民族，不僅不會被災難打到，更能創造條件規避風險，減少災難的破壞性，還會汲取教訓，讓生命有尊嚴，讓公民生活有尊嚴和幸福。

我曾經在絕望中尋找希望 尋找一個如何將生活繼續下去的希望 而如今我無意間翻開了弟子規 我感到捧在手心的不再只是一本是 它將成為我生活中的圣經 她的 全文以人的品行修養為根本 教育一個人從小到大應恪守的本分 和不應逾越的戒尺 雖然有點古板 但字里行間的諄諄教誨 如明鏡一樣映出了我與文中德行的格格不入 隨之而來的是我的困惑與無助 我到底該樣生活 然而又是弟子規給了我對生命的全新詮釋 我感覺我與她緊緊相擁 我的靈魂和她慢慢交融
我又想到了我的過去 那時常趴倒在課桌上默念 神奇的課桌啊 請賜我力量吧 真困 那時多磨無聊的人生 無聊的醉生夢死。我究竟該怎樣去承受我的青春和 未來? 或許我需要交點知心朋友 我們尊重友誼并做到 佩君醉笑叁萬場 不訴離傷。在生活中 無論是對待朋友 老師 還是親人 我們該怎樣做 那一段泛愛眾為我們解釋的清清楚楚明明白白。我想每個人不再只為自己而活 而是為全人類而活著。請伸出一雙雙愛的手 捧出一顆顆熱情的心 去擁抱這個世界吧 擁抱這世界的每一個人。
儒家的思想要求人承擔而到家的思想要求人超越 而弟子規就如一把無形于人間的透明直尺 她晶瑩剔透 還閃閃發光。是他給了人與人之間交往的一個標準 一個尺度 和一個出發點。但近百年來的社會動蕩和東西方文明的交融使塬本清晰的文化脈絡漸漸模煳，到了我們這一代，物資的充沛 更彰顯了精神的蒼白 我們成了文化殘缺和精神貧乏時代的產物 我們沒信仰 但渴望信仰 不屑于權威 卻又在追求中逐漸迷失。人與人之間的冷漠也越發的明顯 在佛山被撞的小月月身上展露無疑 那一個個的路人若無其事的走過 可憐的孩子無人理睬 好長一段時間后才被送往了醫院。這些個無動于衷的人們啊 這個冷漠的風氣啊 讓我很心寒，我想也只有讓弟子規中的大愛深入人心 讓世界充滿了愛 讓人才能真正成為人!
細讀弟子規，發現里面的道理雖然簡單 卻是我們最無知和薄弱的地方 古人訓誡：做人要孝順父母 友愛兄弟 關懷朋友 都是因為心懷感恩 而時下有很多和我一樣的年輕人 對人和物少了一份感恩之心 目空一切而后標新立異 自由散漫而后無法無天。想一想 古代圣賢的思想內涵 以他無盡的思想光輝在慢慢歷史長河中指引我們前進!處于青春期的我們 更需要一種向上的張力 一種信仰 一種蛻變!
