從我開始教雅思寫作的時(shí)候，所謂的“套句”和“模板”在雅思寫作當(dāng)中是否有用就一直是一個(gè)有爭(zhēng)議的問(wèn)題。2005年我剛從一個(gè)基礎(chǔ)英語(yǔ)教師轉(zhuǎn)型為雅思培訓(xùn)師的時(shí)候，當(dāng)時(shí)的主流回答是“有用”。翻看當(dāng)時(shí)出版的各種雅思寫作參考書，幾乎范文里都或多或少有類似“Today, the issue that......has aroused great controversy in the modern society.While some people believe that......, this view, nevertheless, is counterargued by some other people who firmly stand by the viewpoint that.......In my opinion, both viewpoints have their merits and in this article, I would like to exploit the issue with the following aspects.”這樣的“經(jīng)典套句”。于是當(dāng)時(shí)本人也跟風(fēng)設(shè)計(jì)了一套自己的模板，并在我當(dāng)時(shí)教授的雅思寫作課程中專門開辟了“快速模板”這樣一個(gè)單元。然而實(shí)踐下來(lái)教學(xué)成果卻讓我非常困惑，因?yàn)橥瑯邮褂帽救碎_發(fā)的“俞式模板”去寫雅思作文的考生，既有拿到7分的高分的，也有只拿到5分并且憤而在網(wǎng)上把我罵到臭頭的。本人這次特別翻箱倒柜，找出了當(dāng)年的“俞式模板”：

appearance of a building that plays a more significant role.看上去很不錯(cuò)是不是？但問(wèn)題是，如果它真的那么好的話，為什么還是有學(xué)生在好不容易把我的模板背得滾瓜爛熟之后還是只能得一個(gè)5分呢？這是我當(dāng)時(shí)非常想不通的一個(gè)問(wèn)題，anyway，盡管效果各異，但當(dāng)時(shí)我在日常教學(xué)當(dāng)中還是堅(jiān)持保留”快速模板”這個(gè)單元，直到2007年我來(lái)到新東方……

當(dāng)我作為一個(gè)新人來(lái)到新東方的時(shí)候，發(fā)現(xiàn)新東方的老師基本上都是非常不屑模板套句這類東西的。當(dāng)時(shí)新東方對(duì)外普遍的說(shuō)法是“新東方的雅思教學(xué)早就過(guò)了那種背機(jī)經(jīng)抄模板的原始時(shí)代”了。的確，到北京去培訓(xùn)和全國(guó)各個(gè)新東方分部教雅思寫作的同行交流的時(shí)候，大家也幾乎眾口一詞：“用模板就好比一個(gè)上身穿 Armani西裝的人下半身就穿著一條山寨版的Arnani短褲”，是和一個(gè)考生的整體語(yǔ)言水平不協(xié)調(diào)的，因此在實(shí)際使用過(guò)程中，往往會(huì)適得其反，即本來(lái)不用模板還能得一個(gè)6分的，用了模板以后反而只能拿個(gè)5分。

作為當(dāng)時(shí)一個(gè)有覺悟的新東方新老師，我又作出了一個(gè)重大的決定：追隨組織大流，毅然把曾經(jīng)在我的雅思寫作課程中占據(jù)4小時(shí)左右長(zhǎng)度的“快速模板”這個(gè)單元從我的講義當(dāng)中.永久地刪除了！

現(xiàn)在是2009年，我不用模板已經(jīng)很多年（其實(shí)也就是兩年），但對(duì)于模板和套句在雅思寫作當(dāng)中的作用，說(shuō)實(shí)話，I was still not so sure——你注意到了，我用的是一般過(guò)去時(shí)——which means 我現(xiàn)在對(duì)于這個(gè)問(wèn)題已經(jīng)有了答案，因?yàn)槲矣龅搅怂?Vanessa Jakeman，英國(guó)人，包括劍橋系列叢書在內(nèi)的多部雅思著作的作者，英國(guó)雅思界權(quán)威。

前一段時(shí)間我們部門正好有幸邀請(qǐng)到老太太吃飯，借著這個(gè)難得的機(jī)會(huì)，大家都把平時(shí)教學(xué)中碰到的問(wèn)題向老太太請(qǐng)教，我的問(wèn)題就是關(guān)于模板和套句：這玩意兒在雅思考試?yán)锏降资恰斑@個(gè)可以有”還是“這個(gè)真不能有”？

老太太給我的回答可以用一個(gè)詞回答：Relevance（相關(guān)性）。Yes, it's all about relevance.也就是說(shuō)套句也好模板也好，的確“有時(shí)候可以用有時(shí)候不能用”，關(guān)鍵取決于你用的是否切題。老太太有說(shuō)到很多低分雅思考生的問(wèn)題正是在于他們手里都有一套模板，但他們不知道哪些題目里這個(gè)模板是能用的，哪些是不能用的。比如最近一次雅思考試（2009.4.18）的作文考題：

Some people believe that if products are of good quality or meet people’s needs, people will buy them naturally.So advertisements are not necessary and no more than a form of entertainment.To what extent do you agree or disagree?(抽象類)

如果有人寫：Today, the issue that advertisements are not important and only a kind of entertainment has aroused great controversy......那么這個(gè)考生馬上就會(huì)被嚴(yán)重扣分，因?yàn)閕ssue是指“有爭(zhēng)議的問(wèn)題”（比如“安樂(lè)死是否應(yīng)合法化”

之類的），而這個(gè) topic中提到的“廣告不是不可或缺的而只是一種娛樂(lè)”純粹是部分人的personal opinion,并不是issue，因此這里盲目照搬套句模板就一定會(huì)被扣分。而如果像今年2月7號(hào)的作文考題：

Some people believe that rich countries provide poorer countries with other types of help rather than financial aid.To what extent do you agree or disagree?(政府決策類)

如果用剛才的模板來(lái)寫開頭 : Today, the issue whether rich countries ought to provide poorer countries with other types of help instead of financial aid has aroused great controversy......按照老太太的說(shuō)法就完全沒(méi)有問(wèn)題，因?yàn)閞ich countries到底應(yīng)該向poorer countries提供怎么樣的援助本來(lái)就是屬于有爭(zhēng)議的問(wèn)題，的確是issue沒(méi)錯(cuò)。

綜上所述，其實(shí)套句或者模板在雅思寫作中還是可以用的——當(dāng)然是在你能夠確保正確使用的前提之下。我會(huì)不會(huì)在作文課恢復(fù)“快速模板”這個(gè)單元？......Well, I am afraid my answer has to be “NO”.因?yàn)楫吘鼓０逄拙渲惖倪€是比較適合英語(yǔ)寫作基礎(chǔ)比較薄弱的考生，大多數(shù)水平中等或以上的考生完全有能力不需要借助模板就能夠拿到6分或6分以上的成績(jī)。或者這樣說(shuō)可能更清楚：使用模板的前提是考生能正確識(shí)別哪些題目能用模板，用什么模板。而基礎(chǔ)較差的考生往往做不到這一點(diǎn)所以模板不適合他們。而能夠做到這一點(diǎn)的考生基本上英語(yǔ)實(shí)力已經(jīng)達(dá)到一定的高度，完全可以靠自己的能力獨(dú)立寫出一篇得分在6分以上的雅思作文，所以也不需要模板。因此，我們可以確定模板套句對(duì)大多數(shù)考生基本無(wú)用，除非你是這樣一個(gè)考生：英語(yǔ)基礎(chǔ)較差，自己無(wú)法獨(dú)立寫出完整正確的段落，手里握有好幾套模板，而且對(duì)于各種不同的 topics適合用哪一種具體的模板都有正確的認(rèn)識(shí)，并能相應(yīng)地準(zhǔn)確使用之……問(wèn)題是，在地球上有這種人存在嗎？

22.who knows but(that)...和who could should...but結(jié)構(gòu)，這個(gè)結(jié)構(gòu)是反問(wèn)形式，一般意譯為多半，亦未可知等等，有時(shí)也可直譯。

23.祈使句+and和祈使句+or結(jié)構(gòu)，祈使句+and表示if...you...，祈使名+or表示if...not...，you。
