大學英語讀書筆記

最近，我開始閱讀《文學與人生》這本書，由于英語水平不太高，我閱讀起來很困難。總是要反復的查單詞、看中文解析，才能勉強讀懂。

今天我突然想到了一個問題：我以前一直覺得我學習英語這門外語就是記單詞(Words)，詞組(Phrases)，學習語法(Grammar)和用法(Usages)。確實，語言是由句子組成，而句子是由單詞，詞組，語法和用法組成。但是，這些只是語言的很小的組成部分。要想學好一門外語，我覺得要從一個更廣泛的角度上來認識語言的實質和真諦。

從某種意義上來講，語言是一種文化，學習語言就要像了解異國文化一樣，做到“入鄉隨俗”。“隨俗”在這里的意思是隨母語者的語言習俗。而母語者在交流中所使用的語言不僅僅是由單詞，詞組，語法和用法組成，而更重要的是講究更宏觀意義上的要素：即“語音，語調，語氣和語境”，我稱之為“語言的四大要素”。

我要舉個例子來更好地說明這個問題：有一部情景喜劇叫That’s So Raven.講述的是一位具有特異功能的少女，在舊金山的生活和學習的趣味經歷。有一次，Raven 希望得到父親餐廳一位學生主雇的名字，而父親為了保守主雇的隱私，拒絕告訴自己的女兒Raven。Raven很誠懇，很無奈地說了一句：Dad, we are blood!意思是提醒父親：我們是親父女，有什么可保密的?

看到上面這句話，如果脫離了上下文，光從“單詞，詞組，語法和用法”的角度來講沒有人會懂。結果就是在缺少上下文的情況下，我們不知所云。

但是，如果從語言的四大要素——語音，語調，語氣和語境——來看，上句的意思就自然而然呈現在眼前。

綜上所述，學習語言，不要只注重單詞，詞組和語法這些書面因素，更重要的是要體會到句子的語氣，語調，以及最重要的語境這幾項語言交流的要素。這時候我們就會發現自己在不知不覺中可以自由地運用該句了，同時英語水平也會大幅度提高。

《大學》讀書筆記

讀《大學》，感想頗多，雖然有好多問題都是源于前人的拷問，可還是觸發了我很多的思考。以下就簡單地談一下自己讀書過程中的體會。

一、我對“修身”的理解。

讀《大學》和別的儒家經典一樣，印象深刻的就是它對道德修養的看重。但也與別的經典著作寬泛而沒有條理不同，《大學》里提出了一整套的道德修養的規范。我想，這應該也是《大學》被當作“孔門學仁全書”的原因吧。書中提出了格物、致知、誠意、正心、修身、齊家、治國、平天下的“八條目”，它們一脈相承，共同構成了儒家經典的道德要求、途徑和終極目標。

修身的途徑和作用是什么呢？

格物、致知、誠意和正心的目的是為了修身，也只有完成了修身才能齊家治國平天下。《大學》里詳細解釋修身與齊家和治國的關系。從大的方面說，個人修身和齊家對國家民族來說很重要，是治國平天下的基本前提；從小的方面說，修身卻是十分現實的問題，每個人都要從小做起，從自己內心做起。從這一點我們也可以體會到，整個如家的道德倫理體系，都是建立在一個推己及人的基本假設之上的。這就是與“己欲立而力人，己欲達而達人”、“己所不欲，勿施于人”一致的思想。

“格物”就是盡可能去了解、感知這個世界，把握世界的本質。“致知”就是自己去掉蒙昧，變得智能起來。“格物”“致知”之后才能使自己“誠其意”。“誠”極為重要，“誠意”之后是“正心”。若是心不誠，特別是對自己不誠實，正心是無從談起的。經過不斷修煉之后的“心”就得到陶冶，得到升華，經過了純凈心靈、陶冶精神之后，才可能在言和行上達到君子所具有的合度與規范，才可能以這樣的君子風度去治理國家，使天下太平。

我們不僅要問：這種推己及人的思想的依據是什么呢？ 在傳統中國的農業社會里，家是國家的最小社會單元，家是個體安頓自己賴以存在的前提。沒有家，人將就是孤立的存在著，沒有歸屬感；沒有家，國將變得不穩定。總之，家是社會的基礎，是個人發展的前提，所以人們總是期望“家和萬事興”。因此，儒家把進退有序、長幼有序的“齊家”看成是一個人成年所必須經歷的過程。走向社會的第一步就是在家族里要言行規范，合乎禮儀，要能夠齊家。人是個體的人，也是社會的人，他要參與一個群體，這個群體首先就是家，然后是國，而修養或責任的實施也是由“齊家”到“治國”。

有沒有可能出現“身不修”、“家不齊”而“國家治”、“天下平”呢？

課堂的討論上，有的人會認為，治理國家與個體沒什么大的關系，而是那些當領導的人去治理的。我認為，這種看法是偏頗的。中國有一句話叫“天下興亡，匹夫有責”，正說明國家的事務與每個個體都是分不開的。“國將不國，家何為，人何在？”在這個意義上，家國與個人的關系是緊密相連的。即使是人們通常所舉得管仲和唐太宗的例子，也并非完全徹底的反例。試想，管仲之后，齊國亂成一團，自己也是身敗名裂，這難道不是他自己的所作所為導致的嗎？唐太宗登基之后，力行仁義，提倡道德，被尊為典范，即便如此，晚年也因自己年少時的事苦悶不已，這難道能作為“身不修”卻可以治國的例證嗎？應該說，從普遍和長遠來看，修身是治國平天下的基礎，這樣的推理是沒有問題的。

個人覺得，特別是在這樣一個普遍功利化的社會中，我們其實更需要有一個道德上的標桿和目標。儒家對人性的強調，對誠意、正心的強調，讓人知道義理，知道道德情操，知道為人處事的基本規范，這些都是有現實意義的。其實，今天我們看到更多的是，很多人并沒有重視自己的心性教養和自我修養，而是貪婪無比、肆無忌憚地投機鉆營，費盡心機地去鉆制度的空子、鉆法律的空子以中飽私囊。這樣的例子越多，以及人們對此的熟視無睹，都是整個社會道德漸漸失守的表現。

二、我對“三綱領”的理解。

“大學之道”開篇就提出三個綱領，即“大學之道，在明明德，在親民，在止于至善。”剛開始還不能透徹理解其內涵，因為文本過于簡潔，而且它的意義極為深遠，是深深鑲嵌在儒家一整套的思想體系中的。根據王岳川先生的觀點，三綱領中的“道”、“德”、“善”是三個重要的關鍵詞，要明白這些關鍵詞背后的深刻精神，只有通過對大量經典的閱讀和感悟，借助很多資料的闡釋和老師的講解。

此處“大學之道”的“道”主要指道理、宗旨、規律等，特別指為人處事的準則，實際上提供了一套自我的行為規范。老子在《道德經》里經常提到“道”，道是道家的核心思想。與道家的“天人合一”的原道不太一樣，儒家的道主要指人倫綱要和君子準則。

“大學之道”第一條綱領是“明明德”。第一個“明”就是明白、彰顯、弄清楚的意思。第二個“明”是明亮的、光大的、高尚的意思。這個“德”是指德性、品德和個人修養。“在明明德”就是要去明白、弄清楚并且彰顯人人內心原有的光輝品德。儒家強調“人之初，性本善”，說明人的本性原來就是善良的，之所以長大了以后千差萬別，呈現巨大的差異，主要在于后天的社會環境的影響。正所謂“近朱者赤，近墨者黑”。因此，長大后的改變是由后天社會影響所造成的。《大學》的一個意義就在于肯定人性，相信“人人皆可為堯舜”。

當一個人通過良好的教化、修養、陶冶之后，能夠把內在清凈無染的本性發展出來，而成為一個真實的人。為了將人性內在的光輝發揚出來，或者培養光輝的人性，就要克服環境的惡劣影響，這樣才能把每個人心里所有的光明德行激發彰顯出來。在我看來，“大學之道,在明明德”其實就是一種借助圣賢之德自我的啟蒙，去洗掉那些蒙蔽心靈的雜物和虛假的東西，而把美好的德行開啟出來。“大學之道”的第一個綱領“明明德”，主要強調的是自我啟蒙。

第二個綱領是“親民”。對“親民”有不同的理解，有的認為“親民就是親近人民”，也有人認為“親，當讀作新”，朱熹是這種觀點的代表人物，認為“新者，革其舊之謂也。言既自明其明德，又當推己及人，使之亦有以去其舊染之污也。”（《大學章句》）而從《大學》后面的內容看，我也覺得“親民”應理解“新民”更說得通。

“明明德”意味著當人明白“大學之道”，應進一步去修煉自身而去掉雜欲，才能達到清靜無為的境界。而“親民”則告誡人們，通過自我完善而獲得的心性提升成果可以推而廣之。一旦人經過自我啟蒙獲得了剛健清新的人生境界后，還有去除其他人之“蒙”的義務，從而讓一個民族、一個國家去掉蒙昧，走向新生。這就是“親民”的精神，就是強調要推己及人，使人人都能去除內在的心靈蒙昧而變成新的人。這種推廣及人的啟蒙，正是知識分子和大學教育的重要功能。

大學不是“獨善”，而是“兼善”，不僅讓自我變得更加完美，而且也讓天下更為完美起來。有這一批覺悟了的知識分子不斷去發揚這種“明明德”精神，就會讓這個正在被污染和蒙昧的世界變得更加清潔美好。

“明明德”講的是自我啟蒙，而“在親民”側重于推己及人。第三綱領是“止于至善”。此處的“止”是一個關鍵詞。一般來說，止是停止、終止。但在這里，對“知止”的理解有其難度，只有當一個人有很高教養之后才能做到“知止”。“知止”是對自己的很高要求：知道進退、知悉厲害、去掉雜欲、有所不能而有所能。這個“止”的意思是說人的目的是要達到最高的善，抵達人生最完善之境，不達到極為高妙的境界就不能停止追求,即使達到好的境界也還要精益求精。

為了達到“知止”，首先要知道什么不能做，這就是根據道德規范，去辨別和了解生活中的事情，去完成那些善的事情，去抵制那些惡的事情。要避免那些不好的，要去做那些好的，就是強調自己清醒的判斷力、堅定的意志力否則，我們就不會知道那些可為而那些不可為，最終也是胡亂度日。

其實，至善不僅是道德的要求，也是做事、做學問的要求。剛入學的時候，我是精儀系的，我們老師就講了好多關于精益求精的事例。對好多工程類學科來說，精益求精不僅僅是一個學術精神上的目標，更是一個基本的工程要求。想一下，要是衛星發射、高鐵運行之類的工程，能夠容許得了大的差錯嗎？

“明明德”、“親民”、“止于至善”是說要把內在的欲望去掉，從而彰顯美好的品德，推己及人，普及天下，進而精益求精達到“至善”。以上的三點，從整體上勾勒出儒家的道德體系的框架，這是延續了千年的寶貴思想。《大學》在后文中，詳細談到了實現這三個綱領的做法。

三、關于“慎獨”

早在高中的時候，我就了解到這個詞匯，可那時不理解它的含義，通過大學所讀的一些哲學方面的書籍，特別是關于“存在”的，讓我更好滴理解了這種過程。

從哲學的意義上說，慎獨常常意味著一種追問。按照西方哲學的說法，人是有自我意識的主體性存在，當人從混沌中走出，意識到自我是一種存在時，人也就把自我從存在的本然狀態中推出而審視自我，從而把自我作為與主體之“我”相對的客體。本來“我”是完善的，然而，紛繁的塵世使“我”失去了本心。

慎獨就是真實自我的發現與實現過程。這種自我發現不是以外界為目的，而是向內心尋求，試圖通過內在修煉擺脫任何外在條件的限制。在這一過程中，人是絕對自由的，所以主體才能夠接受真實自我，真實自我也才能夠來到主體面前。因此，這種自我實現不是通常意義上的可以外化的有形價值實現。這種實現是無形的，無關于外界的。

在《烏合之眾》里，作者提到，在一種狂熱的社會群體中，我們的自我存于一種“隱形”的狀態，正是這種普遍的喪失自我和不負責任，使群體變得瘋狂而可怕。其實，在現代社會里，我們一味地追逐名利權錢，然后又在縱欲中原諒自己，實則是一種自我的隱形。只有重新找到自己，我們才有可以重新成為人。

后記：

讀《大學》，我感受比較深的就是那種對自己嚴格要求的自律，對實踐道德的使命感和推己及人、兼濟天下的責任感。我想，這是這樣一些要求，是儒家具備了所謂“普世價值”的特點。好好學習這部經典，真的會提升自己的修養，成為更好的人的。
