Expo 2010 Shanghai is the first registered World Expo hosted by a developing country.It is an opportunity for China and also for the world.This Expo will present to the world a China, a country with a five-thousand-year civilization, that is enjoying fast development and changes through reform and opening up.It will serve as a bridge for China to learn the good experience of other countries and engage in exchanges and cooperation with the rest of the world.More importantly, Expo 2010 Shanghai belongs to the world.In the coming six months, focusing on the theme Better City, Better Life, the Expo will offer a platform for all countries and regions to fully exhibit their achievements in urban civilization, share best practices and spread advanced ideas on urban development.We will learn from each other, draw on each other's strengths and explore new models of housing, living and working for mankind in the new century.I believe that the Expo will add a new chapter to the annals of interactions and mutual learning between the Chinese people and people of other countries and between different civilizations.

The theme of Expo 2010 is “Better City, Better Life”.上海世博會的主題是“城市，讓生活更美好”。

Why do we set this theme?為什么會確立這個主題呢？

The core value can be interpreted as following: The City, built by people, has been evolving and growing into an organic system.People are the most dynamic cells with the best ability to innovate in this system.People’s life is closely interactive with the urban morphology and development.With the raped urbanization, a more extensive relationship and interaction has been established between the city organic system and earth’s biosphere and resource system.People, city and earth are just like three organic systems linking with each other and fusing into the integrity throughout the whole process of urban development.其核心思想可以這樣理解：城市史人創造的，它不斷地演進、演化和成長為一個有機系統。人是這個有機系統中最具活力和最富有創新能力的細胞。人的生活與城市的形態和發展密切互動。隨著城市化進程的加速，城市的有機系統與地球大生物圈和資源體系之間相互作用也日益加深和擴大。人、城市和地球三個有機系統環環相扣，這種關系貫穿了城市發展的歷程，三者也將日益融合成為一個不可分割的整體。

（2）To interpret the theme “Better City, Better Life”The mascot of World Expo 2010 Shanghai China should become the unique visual logo of theme development and should be different from the existing mascot images of previous World Expos and international events in theme manifestation and designing.The image of mascot should well express the theme of Shanghai Expo “Better City, Better Life” by using innovative ideas, impressive appearance and motions to state its concept and characters.By exploring the relationship among cities, urban dwellers and planet, the mascot must express the inner relation between heritage and future.The designing concept should be clear and unique, which coincide withthe theme and easy for the public to undertand.（2）演繹上海世博會“城市，讓生活更美好”的主題
