基督山伯爵的第二個(gè)仇人就是唐格拉爾。唐格拉爾在法軍入侵西班牙時(shí)靠供應(yīng)軍需品發(fā)了橫財(cái)，他的銀行可以支配幾百萬法郎的資產(chǎn)。基督山伯爵為了取得唐格拉爾的信任，拿出歐洲大銀行家的三封信。在唐泰斯那里開了三個(gè)可以“無限透支”的帳戶，懾服了唐格拉爾。之后他又收買了電報(bào)局的雇員，發(fā)了一份虛報(bào)軍情的電報(bào)，誘使唐格拉爾出售債卷，折損了一筆巨款。基督山伯爵于是將一個(gè)逃犯——維爾福和唐格拉爾夫人的私生子安德烈亞·卡瓦爾坎蒂打扮成意大利親王的兒子，并介紹給唐格拉爾。為了避免銀行的倒閉，唐格拉爾將女兒歐仁妮嫁給了“親王之子”。在婚禮上，憲兵逮捕了這個(gè)逃犯，讓唐格拉爾出了大丑。在無奈之下，唐格拉爾竊取了濟(jì)貧機(jī)構(gòu)的500萬法郎逃往意大利。途中，他落在了基督山伯爵的強(qiáng)盜朋友路易吉·萬帕的手上。他們先把他餓得半死，然后以10萬法郎的高價(jià)向他出售一頓飯，直到把他的500萬法郎全部都榨光。唐格拉爾被迫為自己所犯的罪行懺悔，而此時(shí)基督山伯爵出現(xiàn)了，向他公開了身份，說：“我就是那個(gè)被你出賣和污蔑的人。我的未婚妻被迫改嫁，我的父親被你害得餓死。我本來也應(yīng)該讓你死于饑餓，但我饒恕你！”唐格拉爾聽后大叫一聲，倒在地上縮成一團(tuán)。隨后，基督山伯爵給了他5萬法郎讓他自謀生路。唐格拉爾飽受折磨和驚嚇，他的頭發(fā)全白了。[8]

基督山伯爵最大的仇人是維爾福，他決定用更殘忍的手段摧毀維爾福的一切。他先買下了維爾福以前的一所處所，在這里維爾福曾企圖殘忍地活埋自己和唐格拉爾夫人的私生子（安德烈亞·卡瓦爾坎蒂）。然后他巧妙地將二人引到這里，并點(diǎn)出了兩人當(dāng)年的丑事。結(jié)果，唐格拉爾夫人當(dāng)場(chǎng)暈倒，維爾福也不得不靠在墻上喘息。經(jīng)過一番較量之后，維爾福開始對(duì)基督山伯爵的身份產(chǎn)生了懷疑。他找到基督山伯爵的兩個(gè)密友詢問，但這兩個(gè)密友都是基督山伯爵一個(gè)人扮演的，他自然一無所獲。此時(shí)，基督山伯爵注意到了維爾福家庭內(nèi)部的一個(gè)破綻：維爾福的后妻企圖讓自己的孩子獨(dú)自繼承遺產(chǎn)。于是他假裝無意之中透露給了她一個(gè)毒藥配方，[9] 后妻利用這種毒藥毒死了維爾福的前岳母、老仆人，并陰謀毒死前妻的孩子瓦朗蒂娜。由于曾經(jīng)的因緣關(guān)系，基督山伯爵對(duì)瓦朗蒂娜暗中保護(hù)，并讓她暗中觀察到了繼母下毒的過程。最后，基督山伯爵將這個(gè)孩子送到了基督山島上。維爾福發(fā)現(xiàn)自己妻子下毒后對(duì)自己妻子一番惡語后審理了險(xiǎn)些成了唐格拉爾女婿的逃犯殺人案。在基督山伯爵的授意下，逃犯當(dāng)眾說出了自己的身世。維爾福知道已落到一個(gè)復(fù)仇之神的手里，被迫承認(rèn)“無須證據(jù)，這個(gè)青年人所說的話都是真的……從此刻起，我悉聽下任檢察官的發(fā)落。”這時(shí)，維爾福的臉色像死人一樣蒼白，牙齒像一個(gè)發(fā)寒熱的人那樣格格的打抖。回家的路上，他想起了自己惡語相對(duì)的妻子渴望與妻子和兒子一塊生活。當(dāng)他倉惶地回到家里，發(fā)現(xiàn)自己妻子因?yàn)楹蠡谙露径c兒子一起服毒自殺了。在巨大的打擊之下，維爾福瘋了。[10]

基督山伯爵大仇已報(bào)，他深深地感謝上帝。在他看來，他所做的一切都是秉承上帝的旨意，假基督之手在人間揚(yáng)善懲惡。他說：“現(xiàn)在我的工作完成了，我的使命也終止了。別了，巴黎！”于是，他同海黛遠(yuǎn)走高飛了。
