考研招生單位在國家教育部的指示下，紛紛增加考研復試的權重，有的學校已經把復試成績增加到50%。很多考生都為復試英語內容發愁。復試英語主要側重聽力和口語，一般由學校的公共英語或研究生公共英語教研室來考核。

良好的英語聽說能力是復試成功的保證。復試中對英語的聽說能力考查比較多，有時會涉及一些專業性的內容。導師也會比較在意考生們的英語水平。

對口語的考查，各個學校各不相同。有的學校制定了非常詳細的標準和流程，甚至規定了每個老師發問的方式和時間；有的只是面試老師的自由發揮，成績也基本上由面試老師主觀判定，但是每年的考試過程中，有一些話題總是相同或相近的。
