摘要:隨著時代的發(fā)展,社會對醫(yī)學(xué)院校的學(xué)生及醫(yī)學(xué)專業(yè)人員的外語水平的要求會越來越高。但是醫(yī)學(xué)院校英語的教學(xué)效果與國際接軌仍然有一定的距離,大學(xué)英語教學(xué)面臨諸多問題。筆者通過實踐提出了一些相應(yīng)的解決方法。

隨著世界經(jīng)濟(jì)一體化的加快,中國的衛(wèi)生教育事業(yè)也逐步與國際接軌。這就勢必對醫(yī)學(xué)專業(yè)人員的外語水平提出了更高的要求。作為醫(yī)學(xué)院校的學(xué)生,在校期間就必然會閱讀一些有關(guān)醫(yī)學(xué)動態(tài)和最新發(fā)展的文章,而很多此類文章是以英文撰寫的。同時還要聽懂外國專家的講座和外教的講課;能用英語書寫實驗報告、臨床病歷、醫(yī)學(xué)學(xué)術(shù)論文。所以,醫(yī)學(xué)院校大學(xué)英語教學(xué)是極其重要的。但在現(xiàn)今的教學(xué)中,卻存在著許多阻礙學(xué)生英語綜合運(yùn)用能力提高的問題。筆者作為一名從事大學(xué)英語教學(xué)的教師,想淺略地探討一下如何更好地從事英語教學(xué),以提高學(xué)生的英語水平。上好第一堂課

學(xué)生剛從高中邁入大學(xué)的時候,往往是懷著忐忑不安的心情開始嶄新的生活,他們對大學(xué)的一切都有些不適應(yīng)。筆者認(rèn)為,第一堂課就講課本上的英語知識是不妥當(dāng)?shù)摹＠蠋煈?yīng)該敞開心扉與他們交流,可先用淺顯的英語介紹自己,談自己當(dāng)初剛進(jìn)大學(xué)時遇到的問題與困惑,然后讓學(xué)生作自我介紹,再談?wù)勊麄冴P(guān)心的問題。老師要始終保持友好親切的態(tài)度,讓學(xué)生樂于交流。當(dāng)氣氛活躍起來后,再對學(xué)生介紹一下學(xué)好英語的重要性及一些要求,包括如何復(fù)習(xí)學(xué)過的知識,如何預(yù)習(xí)新的單元知識,對作業(yè)和考試的各種要求。這些內(nèi)容往往是最重要、但也是學(xué)生多多少少有點懼怕的,所以老師要用幽默的口吻傳達(dá)自己的意圖。比方說,“剛才我們談了很多,也逐漸了解了彼此,我越來越愛你們了,你們愛我嗎?”(Just now, we talked a lot and knew something about each other.You know I love you so much, how about you ?)學(xué)生一定是充滿激情地回答“我們也愛你”(I love you, too.);然后接上去“愛我就完成作業(yè)吧。”(love me, finish your homework, ok?)這種效果就比說“你們一定要完成作業(yè),否則??”(You must finish yourhomework,otherwise??)要好很多。創(chuàng)造良好的課堂氛圍

學(xué)生在大學(xué)一年級時常常會出現(xiàn)不愛主動回答問題的現(xiàn)象,甚至有的學(xué)生,不管你如何鼓勵他,他也不回答。據(jù)筆者調(diào)查,80%的學(xué)生認(rèn)為是高中時養(yǎng)成了老師不點名不回答問題的習(xí)慣,認(rèn)為主動回答問題會被別人嘲笑。為了克服這種現(xiàn)象,很多老師采取了對子活動(pair work)或小組討論

(groupdiscussion),但由于學(xué)生交際面狹窄,因此,羞于主動進(jìn)行活動。經(jīng)過筆者的實踐,采取國外的做法是很可取的,即自由組合圍成圓圈形狀,人數(shù)只需稍加限制。這樣,學(xué)生與自己選擇的伙伴進(jìn)行協(xié)商討論,就會心情放松、無拘無束;然后自行推薦成員向全班闡述本組的觀點,老師要盡可能給予積極公正的評價以示對學(xué)生能力的肯定,或者課后單獨糾錯,其效果自然是非同一般。精心營造語言環(huán)境

幾乎每個高校都有英語角(English corner)。一般情況下,英語角剛創(chuàng)辦時,學(xué)生積極性很高,很多人參加,并主動尋找話題進(jìn)行交流。但一段時間后,由于學(xué)生重視醫(yī)學(xué)專業(yè)水平的提高,就會產(chǎn)生忽視英語的傾向,加上英語聽說能力偏差,好多學(xué)生就不再參加了。為了讓學(xué)生能堅持下去,我校采取的措施是,英語角活動的時間是每周的周二、周四、周六晚上從七點到九點,并讓英語專業(yè)的學(xué)生參與,互相

結(jié)成對子,有目的、有組織、有導(dǎo)向地開展英語活動。我們常開展一些話題討論,如family, holiday, hobby, a wonderful day等等。我們要求學(xué)生提前有所準(zhǔn)備,然后互相交談,這就大大激發(fā)了醫(yī)學(xué)專業(yè)學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)熱情。另外,我們還組織老師與外教分批參與。同時,我們還定期與學(xué)生交流心得體會,及時尋求有效的方法克服不足。除了英語角,我們還時常組織各種競賽,要求每個學(xué)生積極參與,如短劇表演(role play)、辯論賽(debate)、全班性的英語演講比賽等。話題應(yīng)是學(xué)生較感興趣而又有意義的,這樣他們的積極性會更高。注意課程的合理安排

2007年第2期游英慧:淺談如何提高醫(yī)學(xué)院校大學(xué)英語教學(xué)水平大多數(shù)院校每周會安排兩節(jié)聽說課,兩節(jié)精讀課。醫(yī)學(xué)院校也是如此。如今新穎的教材很多,采用比較多的是《新編大學(xué)英語》、《新視野大學(xué)英語》讀寫及視聽說教程。每套教材都是四冊。有些學(xué)校為了趕進(jìn)度,不管學(xué)生是否能消化,有的甚至一周講一個單元。比較合適的速度比如精讀課,應(yīng)6個課時一個單元。筆者覺得,應(yīng)該注重的是學(xué)生掌握了多少,而不是學(xué)了多少。即使一個學(xué)期只講了半冊書,學(xué)生都掌握了并有所提高,也比學(xué)了一冊卻不知學(xué)了些什么要好。我們期望能有符合非英語專業(yè)學(xué)生一學(xué)期一冊書的教材早日出現(xiàn)。在現(xiàn)今的情況下,我們采用了這兩套教材,對內(nèi)容進(jìn)行了取舍,取其精華。例如《大學(xué)體驗英語》聽說教程第四冊有些單元術(shù)語特別多,比如說第二單元第二部分listening task中,老師在備課中尚需要借助上網(wǎng)搜索、教師間互相討論才能明白其中的一些術(shù)語,如this 23-year-old parked in front of a flat-screen monitor;café-iris;namesake roll;a cup of joe;The Globe;Bohemian Bagel;Krakatit, etc。而學(xué)生若課堂上沒有上網(wǎng)的機(jī)會,只聽老師解釋一遍,自然聽起來特別吃力,大大挫傷其聽英語的積極性。這種情況下,我們可以簡略的討論一下相關(guān)內(nèi)容。仍拿上面所述例子來說,第二單元的話題是open to ev-erything,我們可以選一個小問題進(jìn)行討論,如how to deal withdifferent lifestyles?或者干脆把這個單元舍棄。為了不與提前設(shè)定的教學(xué)進(jìn)度相沖突,我們可以在此階段選些課外材料,可以播放一些優(yōu)美的英文歌曲作為聽力材料并予以分析,讓學(xué)生體會到這首曲子的優(yōu)美之處;可以讓學(xué)生欣賞一些易懂的英文電影,例如《獅子王》、《海底總動員》、《音樂之聲》等等;可以選一些學(xué)生感興趣的話題進(jìn)行討論或辯論;可以選一些簡單的托福、雅思、瘋狂英語的聽力材料讓學(xué)生對其有所了解;可以經(jīng)常向?qū)W生闡明英語學(xué)習(xí)的特點和方法,讓學(xué)生認(rèn)識到英語學(xué)習(xí)的艱巨性和漸進(jìn)性,不斷地鼓勵他們克服有礙正常發(fā)揮的緊張焦慮情緒所產(chǎn)生的恐懼,幫助他們樹立自信心;若有的單元確實很好又沒按進(jìn)度表講完,我們不妨把部分簡單詞匯、部分練習(xí)題移到課后,讓學(xué)生自主學(xué)習(xí)。[1]講究課堂提問策略

在教學(xué)中,我們經(jīng)常發(fā)現(xiàn)有些學(xué)生不愿主動回答問題,但用點名提問往往會給學(xué)生帶來很大的壓力。所以我們要講究提問策略。心理學(xué)實驗顯示:學(xué)生注意力集中時間一般持續(xù)15-20分鐘,隨后降低。所以,教師講解應(yīng)以20分鐘為一段,適時嵌入2-3分鐘的提問練習(xí)。在講解中,審時度勢的提問往往能使學(xué)生集中精力,活躍學(xué)生的思維,調(diào)動學(xué)生的積極性。建議教師不要按名單或座位順序提問,以免學(xué)生養(yǎng)成偷懶不動腦的習(xí)慣。為了避免給學(xué)生太大的壓力,教師可事先向全體同學(xué)提出幾個問題,然后把學(xué)生分成自然小組,分配給每個小組一個問題考慮,并告訴學(xué)生教師會從每組里抽1-2名學(xué)生提問,或者由小組選出一名代表做“主題回答”。一些同學(xué)在回答問題時,因緊張或時間短,語言組織不夠嚴(yán)密,邏輯性不強(qiáng),此時,教師可請1-2名學(xué)生進(jìn)行補(bǔ)充,對該同學(xué)的回答做出評價,即提出“自己的修正意見”。這種方法的好處是集思廣益,并且每個小組的同學(xué)都會積極參與討論,提出自己獨到的見解。有時學(xué)生因觀點不同使辯論趨于激烈,這樣可使學(xué)生對該問題產(chǎn)生較為深刻的印象。另外,老師要精心設(shè)計每一個問題。教師講授新課時,不要直接講解課文中的單詞、結(jié)構(gòu)和句子,而是通過導(dǎo)入的方式進(jìn)行。教師

導(dǎo)入時要選用與課文有關(guān)的背景知識或某一相關(guān)話題,提問式地導(dǎo)入課文;另外遇見一些與學(xué)生以前學(xué)過的相同的、相近的或相似的單詞、短語、結(jié)構(gòu)和句子時,教師要設(shè)計提問,以喚起學(xué)生的記憶,從而培養(yǎng)學(xué)生學(xué)會利用聯(lián)系的方式積累知識的能力。精讀教學(xué)相關(guān)論文除了對單詞、結(jié)構(gòu)和句子的表層理解外,還需要借助于文章中的句子、段落,對文章進(jìn)行深層次的判斷理解。在文章中,有些觀念,作者沒有直截了當(dāng)?shù)乇磉_(dá),往往采取迂回曲折、比較隱晦的方式表示。類似這樣的文章,需要教師提問點撥,不要直接給出答案,以使學(xué)生根據(jù)上下文逐漸分析出作者的真實意圖。適當(dāng)運(yùn)用多媒體輔助教學(xué)

2004年1月教育部正式頒布《大學(xué)英語課程教學(xué)要求(試行)》,其基本思路主要包括:將原來的以閱讀理解為主轉(zhuǎn)變到以聽說為主、全面提高綜合能力上來;將單純依靠課本、粉筆、黑板、老師講、學(xué)生聽的教學(xué)模式轉(zhuǎn)變?yōu)橛嬎銠C(jī)(網(wǎng)絡(luò))、教學(xué)軟件、課堂教學(xué)三位一體、綜合運(yùn)用的個性化、主動式學(xué)習(xí)模式。[2]多媒體技術(shù)融文字、圖像和聲音等多種信息媒體于一體,用于輔助教學(xué)能夠加大課堂容量,提高學(xué)習(xí)效率,更有效地激發(fā)學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)興趣。但如果運(yùn)用不當(dāng),就會造成教與學(xué)的不和諧。有些老師把一個單元的所有教學(xué)內(nèi)容一股腦做成PowerPoint,一張接一張地放,學(xué)生要么是走馬觀花,記不清內(nèi)容;要么是難以理解,來不及思考消化。有的老師為了講解一個新的章節(jié),一會兒聽課文的MP3,一會兒欣賞圖片,一會兒觀看錄像,一會兒利用光碟講解背景知識,其結(jié)果是學(xué)生看得眼花繚亂,無法得到語言能力的有效訓(xùn)練,所獲得的知識是零亂的。有些教師為了防止操作失誤,常常將課件制成順序式結(jié)構(gòu),上課時只需輕點幾下鼠標(biāo),課件便像流水一樣淌過。這樣的課件非但沒有以語言交際為目的,反而讓學(xué)生被動地接受知識及思考與提問。同時,由于多媒體的介入,教師將精力集中在課件的順利銜接上,黑板板書量相對減少,這無形中也妨礙了師生之間的情感交流。[3],因此,課件的表現(xiàn)形式不能過于繁瑣,應(yīng)適當(dāng)插入動畫及聲效,目的是突出教學(xué)主題。設(shè)計課件時應(yīng)把精力集中在每堂課的重難點詞匯、難懂的語法現(xiàn)象、文化背景和語篇結(jié)構(gòu)的教學(xué)上。例如講詞匯,可利用多媒體向?qū)W生講授如何運(yùn)用以及英語構(gòu)詞的基本方法,尤其是派生法,即由詞根添加前綴、后綴而構(gòu)成單詞的方法。通過構(gòu)詞法的介紹,學(xué)生可以擴(kuò)大詞匯量。在多媒體教學(xué)中一定要加強(qiáng)師生互動,老師要多提問,多組織課堂聽說活動,也可讓學(xué)生制作PPT并在課上展示。這期間教師要面對面地指導(dǎo),發(fā)揮自身的教師特質(zhì)。[4]保證評價方法的科學(xué)性

目前,大多數(shù)院校采用的是傳統(tǒng)評價模式,即終結(jié)性評2007年第2期游英慧:淺談如何提高醫(yī)學(xué)院校大學(xué)英語教學(xué)水平價,就是每學(xué)期舉行一次期末考試,學(xué)生成績由期末考試卷面成績和平時成績組成。平時成績是由教師根據(jù)學(xué)生平時聽寫、出勤狀況、作業(yè)情況確定,而少數(shù)教師只根據(jù)學(xué)生印象打分,因此平時成績沒有統(tǒng)一標(biāo)準(zhǔn),缺乏公正性、公平性。期末考試常采用標(biāo)準(zhǔn)化題型,重考試結(jié)果,忽略學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)過程,缺乏對學(xué)生英語實際運(yùn)用能力的評價。這兩種傾向都應(yīng)避免。形成性評價(formative assessment)是通過診斷教育方案或計劃及教育活動中存在的問題,為正在進(jìn)行的教育活動提供反饋信息,以提高教育活動質(zhì)量的評價。注重從被評價者的需要出發(fā),重視學(xué)習(xí)過程和學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)體驗;強(qiáng)調(diào)評價中多種因素的交互作用,重視師生交流、關(guān)注學(xué)生的進(jìn)步和能力。它主要是對學(xué)生英語語言學(xué)習(xí)的交流、學(xué)生的書面作業(yè)、口頭問答、演講、朗誦等課內(nèi)外學(xué)習(xí)行為和學(xué)習(xí)能力、學(xué)習(xí)態(tài)度、合作精神等做出評價。形成性評價能使學(xué)生了解自身的學(xué)習(xí)情況,真正成為學(xué)習(xí)的主體,也能真正發(fā)揮教師的主導(dǎo)作用。具體方式為:1.教師課堂教學(xué)記錄。內(nèi)容有:學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)英語的熱情;回答問題的積極性;英語的使用能力等。2.學(xué)生寫journal,教師留言評價。要求學(xué)生根據(jù)一段時間內(nèi)所學(xué)內(nèi)容按教師的要求寫journal,教師對journal寫評語作出反饋,評語重在鼓勵。3.學(xué)生演示。老師預(yù)先布置,學(xué)生分組設(shè)計自己的pre-sentation,上課時學(xué)生分組進(jìn)行辯論。教師和學(xué)生共同制訂出評分標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。4.學(xué)生檔案評價。學(xué)生檔案評價是指學(xué)生在教師的指導(dǎo)下,將自己有代表性的作品進(jìn)行分類歸檔,并據(jù)此評

價學(xué)生。每個學(xué)生建立一個檔案袋,記錄學(xué)生在學(xué)習(xí)過程中所做的努力和取得的成績,將每學(xué)期學(xué)生的自評、互評、教師評價匯總做出綜合性評價。比如,學(xué)期開始,教師給每一個學(xué)生建一張卡片,附上學(xué)生最喜歡的格言和本學(xué)期的目標(biāo)。在學(xué)習(xí)過程中,當(dāng)教師發(fā)現(xiàn)學(xué)生有進(jìn)步時,就讓學(xué)生把取得的進(jìn)步寫到卡片上,以此激勵自己。學(xué)生檔案可以包括:學(xué)生閱讀英語書籍的讀后感、學(xué)生英語作品、考試試卷及其成績,在英語競賽、英語角、英語晚會中的表現(xiàn)等。因此,要全面評價學(xué)生,促進(jìn)學(xué)生的英語學(xué)習(xí)全面、健康的發(fā)展,就應(yīng)該采用形成性評價與終結(jié)性評價相結(jié)合的方式。[5]
