母親的由來

古母親節起源于希臘，古希臘人在這一天向希臘神話中的眾神之母赫拉致敬。在17世紀中葉，母親節流傳到英國，英國人把封齋期的第四個星期天作為母親節。在這一天里，出門在外的年輕人將回到家中，給他們的母親帶上一些小禮物。

現代意義上的母親節（ＭＯＴＨＥＲ＂ＳＤＡＹ）起源于美國，由安娜?賈維斯（Anna Jarvis,1864-1948）發起。她終身未婚，膝下無兒無女1906年5月9日，安娜?賈維斯的母親不幸去世，她悲痛萬分。在次年母親逝世的周年忌日，賈維斯組織了道思母親的活動，并鼓勵他人也以類似方式來表達對各自慈母的感激之情。

母親節在我國最早是在港澳臺地區有此節日。改革開放后，母親節也為內地所接受。廣東省于1988年開始，杭州等城市于1989年開始，都由各級婦聯組織母親節的慶祝活動，并把評選“好母親”作為節日的內容之一。吉爾吉斯坦總統阿坦巴耶夫2012年4月24日簽署法令，將每年5月第三個星期定為“母親日”。這一決定是國家支持母親和家庭計劃的一部分。目的在于“讓吉爾吉斯坦整個國家和社會認識到提高母親們和家庭地位的重要性”使得國家在關照母親和家庭上的政策與國際接軌。此外，法令要求政府開展調查，研究“照顧母親和提高家庭的地位”在吉爾吉斯坦的現狀，以判斷政府是否兌現了承諾，遵守國際法。這一調研成果對于母親日的宣傳和教育工作也將至關重要。
