在英語中，一些句型要求句中的動詞必須使用一定的時態，為了便于理解和掌握，現將常用過去時態的固定句型歸納如下 ：

1． It’s(high)time sb did sth表示“正是某人做某事的時候”，要用一般過去時。如：

It’s(high)time we had supper.我們該吃晚飯了。2． It is /has been…since…表示“自從…以來…”,since之前用一般現在時或現在完成時，since后用一般過去時；若since前用一般過去時或過去完成時，則since后用過去完成時。如：

It is(has been)two years since he died.他已去世兩年了。

He said it was four days since he had come here.他說他來這兒已四天了。3． …was/were doing sth.When …did sth表示“正在做某事，這時突然…”，前面用過去進行時，后面用一般過去時。如：

I was playing a computer game when there was a knock at the door.我在玩電腦游戲，這時有人敲門。

4．No sooner…than…./hardly…when…表示“一（剛）…就…”，than/when前用過去完成時,than/when后用一般過去時.如：

I had no sooner got home than she made me cook the supper.我一到家，她就讓我做晚飯。She had hardly come back when she would see me.她一回來，就來看我。若No sooner或hardly提前，則采用倒裝語序。
