日記是用來(lái)記敘自己一天生活中所看到、遇到、想到和做過(guò)的事情，特別是那些具有教育意義或值得回憶、查閱或參考的事情，也可以用來(lái)抒發(fā)自己當(dāng)天對(duì)某些事件的感受，以及對(duì)將來(lái)的打算等。因此，要記的內(nèi)容豐富多彩，這正是日記題材廣泛，選材容易的原因。體裁以記敘文或簡(jiǎn)單的議論文為主。

寫(xiě)日記時(shí)一般要注意以下幾點(diǎn)：

1.格式：英文日記和中文日記的寫(xiě)法大致相同。一般是第一行寫(xiě)日期、星期、天氣狀況。日期通常頂格寫(xiě)，后面是星期，天氣狀況寫(xiě)在右上角。表示天氣情況的詞一般用形容詞，如：fine，cold，rainy，windy，cloudy，sunny，snowy，foggy 等。正文部分另起一行。

2.人稱：日記要用第一人稱寫(xiě)。

3.時(shí)態(tài)：寫(xiě)日記的時(shí)間一般是在下午或晚上，有時(shí)也有在第二天補(bǔ)記。所記敘的事情通常發(fā)生在過(guò)去，所以常用一般過(guò)去時(shí)。但如果要記敘天氣、描寫(xiě)景色、展望未來(lái)、議論某事或?qū)υ捯Z(yǔ)等，可以使用一般現(xiàn)在時(shí)或一般將來(lái)時(shí)，以生動(dòng)再現(xiàn)當(dāng)時(shí)的情景。

4.日記的寫(xiě)作順序：日記一般按照時(shí)間順序或事情的經(jīng)過(guò)來(lái)寫(xiě)。語(yǔ)言要清楚、自然，內(nèi)容要連貫、完整。

5.類型：日記可分為記事型、議論型、描寫(xiě)型以及抒情型等。記事型日記，就是用所學(xué)英語(yǔ)詞匯記述當(dāng)天自己生活中所發(fā)生的事情。議論型，就是對(duì)生活中的某一事件或情況、現(xiàn)象發(fā)表自己的看法。描寫(xiě)型就是對(duì)某人、某物的特征進(jìn)行細(xì)致地描述，或?qū)δ呈挛锸惆l(fā)自己的感情。

這部分包括寫(xiě)信人的地址、日期、收信人的地址、稱呼及事由標(biāo)題。一般把寫(xiě)信人的地址放在信的最上方中間的位置，而日期、收信人的地址、稱呼及事由標(biāo)題放在左上方。英文日期的表示為月、日、年，如：2002年2月14日應(yīng)寫(xiě)為：February 14, 2002。在網(wǎng)上發(fā)信要簡(jiǎn)單的多，因?yàn)槊總€(gè)人都有個(gè)人的郵箱，在發(fā)信時(shí)要先填上對(duì)方的地址和主題，也就是事由標(biāo)題，而且對(duì)方在收信時(shí)也會(huì)看到你發(fā)信的時(shí)間，所以在發(fā)電子郵件時(shí)，這個(gè)部分可以省略。

正文部分

一般英文信函以用Dear“親愛(ài)的”開(kāi)頭，接著是收信人的名字。如果是一般關(guān)系，用Dear Mr.(先生)、Mrs(夫人)、Miss(小姐)、Ms(女士)，如John Smith則用Dear Smith(親愛(ài)的史密斯先生)；如果關(guān)系很熟，可以在Dear后加對(duì)方的名字，如Dear John(親愛(ài)的約翰)；如果你不認(rèn)識(shí)對(duì)方，可用Dear Sir or Madam(親愛(ài)的先生或女士)。

在第二行一般開(kāi)頭常用Thank you for your letter of January 20, 2002.(謝謝你2002年1月20日的來(lái)信)或I'm very happy to hear…(我很高興得知……)。
